Stampede Blue Pat Angerer

I couldn't help but notice during yesterday's game that Pat Angerer did pretty darn good.  He got back to back sacks nd seemed to always be where the tackle needed to be made.  He even ran down the running back that should have been stopped in the backfield from behind.

I saw linebacking abilities from him yesterday that we don't really have on the team right now.  Is it possible that he breaks through into the starting lineup this year?  I know he is slated as Brackett's backup, but I like the idea of Angerer-Brackett-Session being the starters.  I know this moves Angerer out of his normal position, but, I am sure he could adjust.

Thoughts?

Stampede Blue 09' Colts and 94' 49ers: A Case Study

I am going to compare this years Colts and the 94' San Francisco 49ers in an area where they are very similar.  The 94' 49ers are a team that I concider the best team of all time.  As we all remember, many veterans signed one year contracts with them for lower than normal salaries with the goal of winning the Superbowl.  They did so in dominant fashion.  Here is the shocker!  the 94' Niners also struggled running the football!  ::Gasp::  For the sake of my argument I am going to remove Steve Young from the equasion.  He was a great runner, which is something Peyton Manning simply cannot do.  I do not believe a scrabling quarterback is not really a fair thing to consider when talking about a running game.  Young was able to take advantage of broken plays with his ability to scramble.  He did so in 1994 to the tune of 293 Yards and over 5ypc.  So I am going to subtract Quarterback rushing yards as well as what Recievers ran for from the totals of both teams.  I am only comparing the running backs:

1994 49ers Running Back Yardage:

Rickey Watters - 877
William Floyd - 305

Marc Logan - 143

Derick Loville - 99

Adam Walker - 54

Dexter Carter - 34

Total:  1512 Rushing Yards

             411 Rushes

             8 Fumbles

             14 Touchdowns

             3.68 Yards Per Carry

2009 Colts Running Back Yardage:

Joseph Addai - 828

Donald Brown - 281

Mike Hart - 70

Chad Simpson - 102

Total:  1281 Rushing Yards

             338 Rushes

             2 Fumbles

            16 Touchdowns

             3.79 Yards Per Carry

As this shows, this years Colts were slightly more effective running the ball than the 94' 49ers.  They also took care of the ball better when running.  The 49ers featured the fumble machine known as Rickey Watters, who had 8.  Another big difference is that we also rested our starters for the last 5.5 quarters of the season.  This hurt our rushing averages more than anything due to haveing Mike Hart running behind inferior linemen.  I think NFL Network Experts should take a look at this when they say a team that can't run the ball cannot win the Superbowl!  The 94' 49ers did it, and so can the 09' Colts!

Stampede Blue Awful Journalism

I saw this article over at 18to88 written by Gregg Doyle, who is a D-Bag writer at CBS who has decided to write an article that makes abolutly no sense...He even has the nerve to say that Dallas Clark and  Reggie Wayne are not big time players but are in fact "pellet guns".  I am posting this over here just in case you guys dont read 18to88, and if you don't you definatly should...a lot of good articles over there.  Enjoy the hilarity of this article...pure hateraide!

Stampede Blue Gerhart anybody?

Now I am not calling bust on Donald Brown at this point, to me the jury is still out on him.  To me, his blocking is suspect andhe looks like he may have a hard time staying healthy in this league.  I love his speed and playmaking ability, but there are some things about him that make me scared he will be a bust.

If Toby Gerhard is availiable in the late 1st or 2nd round, I think we should grab him.  He seems like a Brandon Jacobs type to me with a little more speed.  Also, his is an excellent student majoring in Management Science and Engineering at Stanford while carrying a 4.0 GPA. Sounds a lot like a certain Colts QB I know.

Bottom line, this guy is a beast and I would love to see him in the Speed Blue and White!  Discuss:

Stampede Blue Injuries, Injuries, Injuries...

This is getting kind of scary right now...here are the non-practice participants according to Colts.com:

Donald Brown - Shoulder (wonder what is going on, a lot of conflicting info)

Reggie Wayne- Groin (he played after it happened Sunday...I hope he can play.  Remember, he went to the U, he is tough!)

Dwight Freeney - Knee (not too worried, he rests a lot of practices)

Eric Foster - Shoulder?????

Gonzo- Knee (figured he would practice this week...I am a little disappointed)

Marlin Jackson - Knee (Same thoughts as Gonzo)

Adam V- Knee (No suprise here)

This concerns me a little because I expect the 49ers to put up a good fight and we need Wayne, Foster, and Freeney to be good to go.  Maybe I am over-reacting.  Any thoughts?
