Wanted to start a thread up where we can talk about anything to do with our wild card matchup this weekend.

Anyways I got home early tonight and I was watching NFL Network and they had a poll on which coach would get the first NFL this weekend. The choices were M. Lewis, G. Kubiak, M. Smith, and J. Schwartz, the poll was in middle of show and they said results would be posted later at the end of the show. At that point M. Lewis was 36%, G. Kubiak 28%, M. Smith 16%, J. Schwartz 20%. Which is all fine and dandy because I couldnt care less about a silly poll. So im surfing the channels and end up back on NFL before the end of the show and they pop the Poll results up. That is when i realized all of POD must be watching the same show and also voting their tails off to get desired results, but i about fell of the coach when i saw these results

Ok boys just figured out my trip to the D for this year. I'm very excited that it's going to be the thanksgiving game! My buddy who is a packers fan bought the tickets for a wedding gift. So the actual point of this post is to get ideas and or pointers of places to check out, eat, hotels, party, gamble and any other advice.

We're actually flying into Chicago on Monday and were gonna hang out for few days. I have friend there that were going stay with but would love ideas on cant miss places in chi-town. We're thinking about comin up to the D and getting a room at a casino or any other cool hotel downtown on Wednesday and hit the wings up wed night. Then obviously lions on thursday. Be my first game in Detroit for wings and lions... So I don't know any good bars or tailgates I was also hoping there was a chance to get autographs before or after the games? I know when I went to lions broncos long time ago outside there stadium they had team parking lot and open tunnel they walked through where they could stop and talk with fans. Didn't know if any of the stadiums in the D had this or if it was all private. 

Well that's pretty much it guys, anything you guys could suggest would be greatly appreciated (remember for Chicago or detroit) and might give us all something to talk about on this long week off... Boo! Also if this could get rec'd so I can keep track would be sweet but thanks ahead of time.

Just decided to make this because the game day thread was getting a little slow. We're looking for a Packers loss so we can be atop the league in standings. I know im not alone with the excitement for Monday night. There was some great football games this weekend. Giants losing only helps with trying to nab a playoff spot, I guess you could also say that for Packers or Falcons loss tonight. Well hopefully im getting close to my word count so I can publish and get my chat on.

I have recently been engaged and my wedding will be in late August. blah blah blah, so most everyone knows the whole routine when planning for the wedding. Its all been going great (thanks for asking) until today. My best man has come to me with this weekend getaway to Vegas. 12-15 buddies flying down we've got suites everything is perfect for a mans bachelor party. So we get jacked talking about all the booze, clubs, and gambling that were going to partake in.Totally slips my mind to ask him about the date at first, once the excitement dies down a bit, I ask him when is this party gonna happen. He says well ive cleared it with everyone and April 29th we fly out for three days... I just look at him dumb founded and cant believe that he would book my bachelor party during the 2011 NFL Draft. I mean I have a strict tradition of eating wings, drinking high volumes of alcohol and making money on silly bets.

I mean am I selfish in kind of being pissed off about this, how could no one remember the draft is on that weekend. Sure im gonna booze it up in Vegas but im not going to be able to give my undivided attention to the Lions. Its going to be tough trying to focus on winning blackjack when i dont know what the lions are doing in the 2nd through 5th rounds. Im going to have anxiety, Im just not sure if my heart can handle this stress.

Well i know its moaning and groaning about pity stuff but damn my best man could mess up a wet dream. Im definitely rethinking this best man thing all together. I mean if he knows me so well he should know that i love the draft and not to plan my bachelor party on that same weekend.

I guess im done babbling but i was wondering the things you guys were embarrassed to admit you've skipped or been pissed that it fell on the same day as the Lions or NFL event

I was told from a little friend of mine, that the megatron him self Calvin Johnson, is rocking a Acura commercial. Really odd being as that is a Honda Co. and all. Very weird to say the least, im not real sure what to think about it. just thought that I would pass it along for all of you to talk about. I could be late with the news I dont really know but i cant seem to find any footage of this alleged commercial so anyone who has any info, it would be greatly appreciated if you could let people know what you know.

Hopefully it was for the money and not hints at his disgust for the FORDS. That would really stink if this was his way of telling us he is really leaving the minute his contract is up. So i guess we will just wait and see

Im not real sure why anyone can really back the players any longer. All it is money for them and all they're worried about. It really becomes more obvious each and every day these guys have a chance to talk. I honestly hope that the judge overseeing this litigation does the right thing in this legal battle. It seems like guys take the players side because they feel like they can relate... "Like ya screw my boss rich fuck wont give me no money, I feel your pain players" But these players are so out of touch with reality and normal joe schmo life. You play a game cocksuckers and get paid very well, I dont give a damn if the normal career lasts 3-4 years. Thats the path you chose so deal with it, if your not that good you better have something to fall back on. Dont complain about the injuries, we have more dangerous jobs  that work more hours and for less money. We have soldiers all over the world taking GUNFIRE, and are thousands of miles away from their families.

I just dont understand they choose this lifestyle no one is telling them they have to, Your not entitled to be millionaire for the rest of your life just because you play a game for a living. If they really cared about their families they would be taking that money and saving it and investing it for the future because you dont know when your time in the NFL is over. The owners have all the big money in the pot and players just want to HOW big that pot of money is and go MIEN, MINE, MINE.

Plaxico should be back in the league this upcoming football season. He has been in prison for gun charges resulting in a bloody mess in his leg. It also has been talked about that JETS cant afford their big name WRs. So we got Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards or Plaxico Burress. Im not sure who the JETS are going to resign but if for some reason they let Santonio walk i would not be above signing him. I know he has had some off field issues but the guy would be a complete terror with CJ, Nate Burleson, Pettigrew, Best and hopefully Stafford.

Some of you might not think that WR is even a position that needs to be addressed, while its not the most important  we cant play 10 vs 11 some of the game with BJ being on the field. If we dont get any of the above mentioned guys i would also look at Mr. Breaston.  Any ways let me know what you guys think

     Hope everyone had a very merry Xmas!!! I had a week and half off for the holiday season, so i journeyed south to Wyoming to hang with the wifey's family. We had great time and food but it really capped off my Christmas with a lions victory over the Dolphins and Vikes. Which i watched on my cell phone because for some reason I completely spaced bringing my laptop. The worst part of forgetting my laptop was not being able to chat with all of you on the gameday thread.

This isnt really comparable in my eyes, this is just hilarious. Just goes to show how smart belichick is, he is so quick to realize that he needs to get in the way of Harrison to give the defense a chance to return the interception without Harrison chasing him down and making a play. He just dropped Darren Sproles like a bag of potatoes. He is down and hurt but eventually gets up. McClain led with his shoulder and connected with Sproles head/neck/shoulder area. Darren Sproles is 5'6'' and McClain is 6'3''  how in the hell is McClain going to get lower than 5'6'' to make a legal hit. Just all BS if McClain gets fined and sickening how big of pussies theyre turning these players into. Just play dead after every hit and get everyone fined or suspended.

Thorpac just posted an article Statistics: Or, why the Lions still suck pretty much stating that he doesn't understand where we are getting our numbers that prove improvement. First off your "side" says that the only stat that counts is wins and losses. So why even waste your time with doing all you due diligence to find all the negative stats you could find and posting them in an article. We all new what article you were going to write before you even wrote it.

Then you go to PODs award winning ChicoWong for Measuring Progress.  His stats are a little bit more balanced and that the lions do show improvement and how this team is building and growing. Some threw a shit fit about numbers, stats, and the only way to show improvement is to win. So which is it only wins or do we accept shitty stats but not the good stats?

The thing I see about the sunshiners is were more even keeled than what we are made out to be. We get backed into a corner by a barrage of shit so we have to defend everyone and everything just to save our women and children. So asinine to assume that we are ok with losing. We can see things were disappointed in and things that we should be happy about. We just dont choose to beat the hell out of the bad shit because as Mr Lahey would say "The shit winds are coming, and there blowing shit" is plenty of guys that only like to focus on the bad and will be more than happy to bring it to our attention.

The comment i love the most is how we settle for this garbage and they don't. Well if we are so stupid why dont you show some balls and just quit watching the games, quit coming on POD looking for links for the game, quit buying jerseys or shirts... If the lions are just so shitty and you cannot take it anymore just walk away from it all, go help your wife, go do homework with your kids, take your kids hunting or fishing, take your grandparents for walk, go do some yard work or go find a job whatever it is that you need to do.

I realize that there is two sides to every game and thats what POD is for... to speak your peace be it good or bad, make some friends but the OVERALL GOAL is to have a good time just like the NFL its supposed to be for a good time. As of late it hasnt been a good time in here, just getting fisted in the ass with hatred like a Turkey getting stuffed on Turkey Day. Its just been a non stop thread after thread hate fest but then everyone says oh oh no im a fan you cant take that away from me and then just spew more hate after more hate... How do you come back to your television week after week and watch the lions. Its like having a wife or girlfriend you just be little and beat her into nothing then on Friday you take her out and wine and dine her then take her home to tell her how much she is ruining your life and what she needs to do to improve.

I know your going to say well your saying you have a good time with the lions sucking ass and losing all the time. Watching the Lions compete this year is exciting we have had a plethora of moments good and bad, watching this team grow and deal with adversity makes it worth tuning in each game to me. And yes i do believe that its leading to something better... It really just rubs me the wrong way that when the Lions do get this turned around that these grumpy SOBs will come flying back oh i knew this time it was different knew it all along, GO LIONS. It goes back to the wife analogy you leave your wife and she becomes successful or whatever with out you, you dont just get to run back into her life and take over. You abused your wife be happy with the choices you made and live with them.

In closing this is turning into a madhouse where intelligent discussions used to happen now it seems there is teams pitted against each other to see who has the bigger collective dick. Im not trying to tell you how to think or that i don't want to hear it if it isn't what i want to hear... but im sick of being painted into a corner by guys telling me i told you so because the lions lost. If you know the lions are losers and suck that's fine just go somewhere else or find something else to do. Leave POD to guys who want to read new ideas and opposing view points with out being bastardized into nothing and getting the negative cock shoved in my throat.

We are too late for mayhew to do his patented sign and trade with moss, but as Kevin Seifert reports that Mayhew could still do a little Mayhewing. Picking up Moss dealing with his shenanigans for the rest of the year (We get to get rid of BJ I might remind you) and then letting him walk and we get a compensatory pick for losing him. Does anyone think that Mayhew has the balls to do anything like this. Moss has played some of his greatest ball with Linehan and with Burleson. I know Im holding onto a very big pipe dream but its quite the angle on the whole situation and it really made me think about mayhew pulling the trigger just for more draft picks... He does like him some draft picks so just let me know what you think about that little situation...

well by now we all have heard about the MOSS RELEASE, but ESPN just had late breaking news stating that the lowly Redskins are working out Jemarcus Russell. SERIOUSLY!?!?!?! If you think McNabb has Cardiovascular problems you prolly should not be looking at Jemarcus Russell. This is just getting ridiculous, Shanahan is completely out of his mind. I cant stress how it exciting it was to see the lions come out and pull of a big win, with the BIG D putting the nail in the coffin. I thought that the mental mistakes and silly penalties were at a minimum today, except for Pettigrew, he seems to always be putting his name out there like ernie sims did.

Calvin Johnson fumbling the ball when he gets up to celebrate but he just falls down and holds onto with both arms swearing that he isnt gonna make any doubt about it, ha ha ha that would of sucked a nut for sure.

Along with the cleaned up play, I would like to give props to Schwartz. People have been critical with his ability to make the right decision in the heat of the game. He made a great call with a hard count on FG attempt which busted the redskins (giving us a new set of downs and eventually getting us a TD) and then having the balls to go for it on 4th down at the end of the game.

Everyone called a great game except for Linny, it kind of reminds me of when Hill started. Linehan starts out really vanilla and then slowly gets the offense moving. Im not sure if he doesnt think the QB is ready or what, but they had a 2 weeks to get ready for today. Im kind of lost on linehan's play calling at times, like he is always setting something up but i dont think we rarely see the play he was setting up.

Kevin Smith your running with power and heart, something we havent seen for awhile from you. I will be the first to admit that ive been hard on you. I hope you keep playing hard and keep getting better, I will be more than happy to welcome you back after i see a few more games like today out of you.

Ive been trying to get my feed to work for you guys to watch on sunday. Ive done a couple dry runs and think ive got it down pretty good. But i really wont know how its going to look until i get the actual game feed on sunday and then get that posted up. Its times like these that I wish i was a better writer. I cant just cant put into words the way I feel after week 3. The lions havent even come close to playing theyre best game in the first three weeks. I dont need to go into all the problems with the roster, everyone knew where we were standing on that issue before the season even started. Mayhew and Schwartz chose youth over just short term fixes at positions. If you keep a veteran here he plays ok, but he is taking game time away from our youth that they could use to improve and develop into a decent player. KVB is obviously exception to the rule and if you cant understand why you can eat a bag of dicks.

I apologize that I brought this back up but while I was writing my comment I believe that the guy who wrote the silly shit about Vick getting seriously hurt tomorrow deleted so I couldnt post what i wanted to post. So I had to write a quick little post about it myself. So again, I apologize, if anyone feels that i should of just let it go.

Michael Vick has done his time and deserves another chance at life. Sure he is back in the NFL but that is his job that he gets paid to do and if someone gives him a chance to stay in the league and make money then so be it.

Leonard Little he drove drunk into a chick and killed her...(Not even donte stallworth style where the was video evidence) missed like 8 games or something of his rookie season. Few years later he was again arrested on drunk driving the same charge that he had killed a woman a few years earlier. He was still allowed to play in the league after that. I seriously doubt you will catch Vick dog fighting anytime soon.

He would of almost been better off punching or raping women its a little bit easier to understand I mean sometimes you get upset and just need to smack her in the mouth. Sometimes you order room service and the chick wont put out so you try anyways or maybe you pin a chick in the bathroom with a greasy slick back hair do. He got federal charges for dog fighting and there are molesters, rapers, and wife beaters who get a slap on the wrist for doing way more heinous crimes in my eyes.

If you mow lawns and are convicted of a crime, you do your time and then want to mow lawns again. Do you think it should be up to the people hiring you to decide if you get a job or the people driving by having to look at you mowing the lawn??? Would you like people to sit on the sidewalk and hope that you get seriously hurt while doing your job.

I just cant help to think that Jarrad Page wont be in a lions jersey shortly. Before camp it was just a slight possibility that Page would be traded, but now that Delmas has a big question mark above his head you would think that the Lions are looking pretty hard at getting this deal done. The Chiefs have Kendrick Lewis really stepping up to the plate at the other safety position from what I have read. Will the Chiefs kick of the year with two rookies at Safety??? Will the Chiefs (Pioli) give into Page wanting to get out of KC??? Let me know what you guys think.

Im finally back home and near the computer... I was very active member of POD last season and most of this offseason. Around the end of April as we all know the BP oil spill had begun and I had an oppurtunity to go down and work in the gulf protecting land and wildlife from the oil. Anyways I read a kept up on articles but didnt have the extra time to write a fanshot or make any witty responses to anyone elses. Im very excited to be home and be able to particapate on here again. On to the question I have...

I dont really understand why it would take so much time to sign Suh, I mean, I understand that he is the real deal and that he deserves a good deal being the 2nd pick in the draft. But are we really gonna pay him more than Stafford??? Franchise quarterback gets 42 million guaranteed with a maximum of 72 million. (Bradford is looking at prolly something close or maybe a little more in guaranteed money.) So just use Stafford's contract for a starting point, Suh is gonna be 35 to 40 million guaranteed with whatever you want to do for incentives for as big of number as you want. Im guessing 70-80 million overall with 35-40 million guaranteed. I just dont see the Lions paying Suh more than Stafford so I thought we would have him ready for practice on Saturday but Im going with Monday since it seems like they are waiting for Bradford to sign.

Just curious what everyone thinks about Detroit just sitting idle through the second round, or do you think that he might try to pull something together to get back into the 2nd. Im not sure what we could do right now to get back into the 2nd round. Me personally, im still trying to get my thoughts together on the trade up for Jahvid Best. We all know about the Haynesworth controversy... He wants out doesnt like the 3-4 and supposedly has said that he would give part of the money back to be traded. Just one short year ago we had zero chance o getting him, now for some reason deep down inside it seems like were the front runners for him. With the convos been goin on around here some people want Okung, more want Suh, and the last bunch (you know who you are) want us some Berry Koolaid. So that leaves us with a few scenarios. 

A) We take a 29 year old proven DT in Albert Haynesworth (2nd or 3rd pick) and take a chance with a unproven young OT in Okung, Williams or insert your flavor of the week OT.

B)We take 24 year "young" proven LT Gaither (2nd or 3rd pick) and take a chance on young unproven DT Suh

C)We take Gaither (2nd or 3rd), Haynesworth (we get by switching spots with Redskins and giving a 7th to Redskins and get a 5th), then we draft Berry.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Bengals have dropped out of the running for Adam Jones. So when will he sign with the Lions?

 With the reports last week there were only three teams looking at him and supposedly two of them no longer are interested. So all that leaves is the Lions.

Who is all going to welcome here and who is dissapointed....

     Martin Mayhew for GM of the year with Schwartz coach of the year. We're not even to the draft this year and the Detroit Lions seem vastly improved. I guess its not hard to improve our talentless team but come on he will not be played on any trade. I mean everyone knows the deals that he has made ( so i wont go too in depth) How long was he in the big chair before he sent Roy "dropsies" Williams for three picks, then we got Henry for Kitna which didn't pan out but thats a wash in my book because personally i was over Kitna and his Shar Pei head. Then we get Julian Peterson who I think will come on very strong this year, Peterson Levy Sims with sprinkles of FOLLETT. Should be decent group. Then there is Corey Williams who is a lil expensive but expected to rekindle is beast like form in Detroits 4-3. Then the big news of the day was the Houston Trade with Atlanta which was a 6th and swapping 5th rounders. Pretty much everybody if i remember correctly was ok with this deal. It went through today and were giving 6th and conditional 7th so if Houston ends up being trash we wouldnt have to give them 7th next year. Wowsers he just cant help but try to stiff everyone in the league.

     Speaking of stiff i cannot wait for the draft I know that son of a bee sting has something up his sleeve, guaranteed!!! If something happens with that second pick I am guaranteeing nothing less than a wild card this year. You heard it here first March 15th 2010, if the second pick is dealt we will be in playoffs. Im putting all my chips in with Mayhew and Schwartz. Cant help it man Ive got the Honolulu blue fever and the only cure is more Kool-Aid and of course cow bell. You Feeling Me... First off I like the way the front office jumped on free agency this year. I really believe KVB will be taking Avril under his wing. Show him what it takes to prepare, workout and keep your mind right. I dont just like him for the mentoring aspect of the game but also believe that he has plenty left in the tank. He might not be quite the force Peppers is but he requires attention from the offense( 2009 stats Peppers 42 tackles 10.5 sacks KVB 44 tackles 3 sacks). You can easily say that his stats have suffered since Fat Albert left but that goes for any end in the league. I was kind of upset that i did see responses like he was washed up and couldnt play. I was on here late opening night of the season and the general consensus ,I thought, of everyone on the blog was that it was a good solid move didnt go for the home run with peppers but did enough to improve the team with a proven guy.Then the next day you get all the responses that were over spending and making stupid moves. Some people will never be happy. Pretty sad i guess for people who just dont get football.

Burleson knows his job and I think that he is better at doing his job than Bryant Johnson. Spent a little but its the D what do you expect. Front load on uncapped year and contract will be reasonable when we do have capped year.

 Corey Williams i thought was excellent trade. Gives us depth and he may have a little rejuvenated being back in a 4-3 scheme. On opening night I believe that was the first news to come over the wire and we all liked the trade for late round pick we were all speculating the pick but were all in agreement that the denver fifth and up we were alright with losing for C. Williams. Next day after physical turns out we got player and a 7th. I was surprised, i realize 7th rd picks arent the best to have but we still have the same amount of picks going into the draft. Its hard to explain but I just believe in Mayhew(Maybe its the Kool-Aid). He and Schwartz just really seem to be understanding each other and Ford seems to be on board as well. Mayhew wont be made a fool of and wont be making moves just to make changes. They focused on certain guys that they studied and came to agreement then made it happen. Seems like we never had plans with Matt Millen where everyone was all onboard with and made happen.

Which brings me to the point of this banter. There is lots of speculation on trading down and getting more picks. We speculate every year about trading down and what we would do to make the team better. Its a very tough deal to do because of the crippling side effects of the outrageous contracts. This draft has some top QBs we have a few QB hungry teams. This draft also has some big name DT at the top of the board which will be good additions for years to come on any team or could be the missing link for other teams. Just that this year seems like it has the best chance to happen in a long time, but this is where Mayhew comes into play. We have a great chance of having a dominant force in Suh. Could be the anchor of our line for years to come. Sounds good were lucky to have him... Oh wait someone else is showing lots of interest in Suh or the other QB.Just some simple questions Mayhew will ask... How bad do you want him? and What are you gonna do to make it worth it for us? Mayhew will make sure it works in our favor I can guarantee you that. Every trade that I can think off has been for a valid reason and we havent been up shits creek without a paddle cause of it. I feel he will really take advantage of whoever wants to move to the #2 spot and if our demands are to high oh well we get Suh, Berry, or McCoy. I cant speculate who the trade might come from or if it will actually happen. This just seems like the year where someone might be feeling frisky to move to the top for their man and Mayhew will make it be an epic deal. If nothing happens oh well welcome to "D" and how good does our line look now.

Basically it takes my thoughts a little further, by saying that we should draft Suh then see how the cards fall and if Berry falls to Kansas City have them snag him and then we trade for Dorsey and Berry and we give up Suh and a 2011 fifth round pick. 

I really like this idea, killing two birds with one stone. This would mean of course Rams took Bradford or Clausen, in turn leaving McCoy and Suh on the board so teams would let Berry fall to the Chiefs. Basically we get DT and S and we have to pay Berry pick 5 money not pick 2 money. Well ill let you read the article and let me know your thoughts thanks.

I was doing my usual afternoon skimming of anything Detroit Lions. I found an article about the chicago bears trying to trade off guys for some draft picks. Some interesting names I saw on the list was CB Nathan Vasher, S Kevin Payne, DT Tommie Harris. The author was saying a fifth or sixth for Vasher of Payne would be a good deal in their eyes. For Tommie Harris it was going to be a 2nd or 3rd. I dont think Im very interested in Tommie Harris at all so thats not worth givin those picks up for him plus he doesnt have a very friendly contract. But I wonder if Vasher or Payne would like a nice change of scenery and might be able to help us out with our backfield. 

Guess Im wondering if anyone else would be interested in bringing any of these guys in to help us out?

With the offseason starting full force Im looking into trading down out of the #2 spot. I feel this will only be possible if Mr. Cluasen and Mr. Bradford have a amazing combine and boost there stock. Then with all that happening the Rams still pass on them and take Mr. Suh. So yes this is very hypothetical.We have three teams having new front offices, with new front offices usually mean new QB. Seahawks, Browns, and Bills I feel would be teams thinking about making the jump for the face of their franchise.

Seahawks have two first round picks, so we could just trade those picks straight across. The value of the picks almost work equally a 100 pt difference on the scale the owners use. There are many different pick combinations or player combinations you could do to make the trade. Although the Seahawks probably wouldnt be looking to trade up since they pick 7 and only the redskins are ahead of them that would be looking for a QB, but they might be afraid of the Bills or Browns jumping up to pick a QB too. Players im interested in CB Marcus Trufant, CB Ken Lucas,  LG Rob Sims, DT Colin Cole.

Browns have 11 draft picks, again there are multiple ways to with picks and players to make the trade fair. The Browns have many late draft picks built perfectly for trading up if they feel one of these QBs are their guy. Players Im interested in WR Josh Cribbs, WR Mohamed Massaquoi, WR Mike Furrey, DT Shaun Rogers, any of the Guards.

 Bills would be the least likely to trade up but they might be feeling crazy with ?? at the QB. They only have eight picks this year in the draft, an extra sixth round, but they could use some picks for next year. Just depends on how bad they want a QB to build their team right. Players im interested in CB Leodis McKelvin, S Donte Whitner, DE Schobel, G Andy Levitre

There are many more on those rosters that would make ours better i was just naming a few that i could think of off top of my head. More importantly i would be very jacked and impressed if we could land 2-5 extra picks this year or next year. Movin down would still leave us in position to get Berry or Haden or McCoy depends on how it works out in the wash but those are still the picks we could have at 2 but alot cheaper. Not to mention all the later round picks we could use to pick up some guys. If we did trade down I then would not be opposed to a WR later in draft. After watching the NCAA Championship game im kind of thinking Shipley would look good the slot with pettigrew and megatron.
