Rodger GODell to cut his salary to $1 in event of a lock out

NEW YORK -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will cut his salary to $1 if there is a work stoppage after the collective bargaining agreement expires in March. Goodell, who makes about $10 million a year including bonuses, said in a memo to his staff Wednesday that chief negotiator Jeff Pash will do the same. Pash makes nearly $5 million a year. Goodell also has asked the league's compensation committee to delay any bonus payments to him until after a deal is reached with the NFL Players Association. "Let me emphasize that we are fully committed to doing everything possible to reach a new collective bargaining agreement without any disruption to our business," Goodell said. "The entire senior leadership team stands with me in its commitment to resolving the CBA issues with the player's union. "While several other executives have also volunteered to make additional reductions to their compensation, I have asked them not to take that step at this time as we continue our negotiating efforts." NFL owners opted out of the agreement in 2008. Union chief DeMaurice Smith has predicted the league will lock out the players after the March 4 expiration of the contract with the league.

practice squad activity

as we all know Gibson was released and got picked up by the 49ers....Activity on the Steelers practice squad. Added was LB Chris Ellis, who took Steve McLendon's spot when he was added to the 53-man roster. Then DL Al Woods was signed off the Steelers practice squad by Tampa Bay, which put him on their 53. The Bucs also added DE Al Worthington to the practice squad, and so the Steelers signed DE Sunny Harris to theirs.

cut to 75

The Steelers made their first wave of cuts to get down to Tuesday’s mandatory roster limit of 75, and an additional move included the release of a player who has a couple of Super Bowl rings. The Steelers believe they have a rookie class with a lot of potential, and this was reflected in the initial wave of moves because none of those released was a rookie. The players waived included LB Brandon Renkart, CB David Pittman, FB Dwayne Wright and G Adrian Jones. Rookie guard Chris Scott was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, and veteran OLB Andre Frazier – a part of the team for both Super Bowls XL and XLIII – was released from the injured reserve list.

Guess whos starting this Sunday

Coach Mike Tomlin said Maurkice Pounce will start at center, that Dennis Dixon will get some repetitions at quarterback with the first-team offense, and that Antonio Brown will return more punts and kickoffs with blocking schemes adjusted to the skill-set he showed last weekend against the Giants. about time we have been saying this forever and we will finally get to see what Dixon and Pouncey does against a first string team

Cut Williams resign Stewart

from steelers.com The Steelers re-signed long snapper/linebacker Matt Stewart to their preseason roster, the team announced today. Financial terms of the one-year deal were not released. Stewart (6-3, 236) signed with the Steelers this year as a free agent on June 7, but was released on July 30. He was originally drafted as a linebacker by the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft out of Vanderbilt. A seven-year veteran, Stewart played in 15 games as a rookie and 16 games the following season for the Falcons at linebacker. He played four seasons in Atlanta (2001-04) and also spent time on the Cleveland Browns’ active roster from 2005-07. Stewart spent time in training camp with in the Arizona Cardinals (2008) and Dallas Cowboys (2009) before being released. He has totaled 355 tackles and eight sacks during his NFL career. The Steelers made room on their roster for Stewart by releasing first-year wide receiver Isaiah Williams. Honestly idk why we bothered with this move, we dont need any more LBs basically hes just an emergency LS

Steelers Sign Renkart; Place Frazier on IR

from Steelers.com The Steelers made a roster move today when they signed first-year linebacker Brandon Renkart to a one-year deal. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Renkart (6-2, 245) was originally signed a free agent by the New York Jets in July, 2008 before being waived prior to the start of the regular season. He spent time on the Jets’ practice squad in 2008 and then was released following their 2009 training camp. Renkart spent time on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice during the 2009 season and then was signed to the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad on Dec. 30, 2009. He was recently waived by the Colts. The Steelers made room for Renkart on their roster by placing six-year veteran linebacker Andre Frazier on the Reserve/Injured List with a knee injury. Frazier was originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2005 and then spent time on the team’s active roster in 2005 and again from 2007-09. He also spent time on the Cincinnati Bengals roster in 2006-07

Steelers make roster moves

LATROBE, Pa. ─ The Steelers today placed safety Tuff Harris on the Waived/Injured List with a shoulder injury and added rookie free agent safety Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith to their training camp roster. Harris was on the Steelers’ practice squad in 2009 after previously spending time on the active rosters of the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans from 2007-08. Cromartie-Smith (6-2, 210) originally signed with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) this past April, but was released prior to the start of training camp. He will wear uniform No. 42 for the Steelers.

Arians still inlove with throwing the ball

Arians crush on Big Ben still continues as he gives Big Ben praise, he says this is the best Ben has ever looked. He says he plans on getting back to steelers football by not running "more" but running it 'better." But BA thinks he can still he can get 4000 yrds passing and two 1000 yrd receivers, really?!?!? Arians can't remember Roethlisberger being in such good shape or throwing the ball this well so early during any of his previous six camps. Roethlisberger has yet to have a pass intercepted during team drills, and he has gone entire practices without throwing an incompletion. "He's in the best shape I've ever seen him," Arians said Tuesday. "His arm is live, and he has no interceptions and very few incompletions unless they were dropped. This may be the best I've ever seen him right now." Instead, Roethlisberger has looked so sharp, Arians is focusing more time on figuring out what the Steelers will do offensively during the suspension. Available at NFLShop.com 2010 fantasy preview magazine Get a leg up on the competition with NFL.com's fantasy preview magazine. Order now! The answer: Probably not as much as they could if Roethlisberger played a full season. Byron Leftwich, who's all but certain to start for the Steelers while Roethlisberger sits out, possesses an intimate knowledge of the offense and throws the deep ball well, but he isn't as mobile. Dennis Dixon, a third-year pro from Oregon, runs better than any Steelers quarterback since Kordell Stewart but has only started one NFL game. He'll likely begin the season as the starter if Leftwich is hurt. Arians believes Pittsburgh's offense can be as good as it was last season, even though Roethlisberger can play no more than three-quarters of the season. Roethlisberger threw for a career-high 4,328 yards in 15 games in 2009, and Hines Ward and the now-departed Santonio Holmes each had more than 1,000 receiving yards. "We want to improve the running game, but we damn sure don't want to step back in the passing game," Arians said. "We want to have another 4,000-yard passer and two 1,000-yard receivers, and I don't care who they are. Now put the running game back to where it belongs, and I think we're pretty potent offensively."

Steelers claim a FB, cut a FB

LATROBE, Pa. – The Steelers today claimed second-year fullback Dwayne Wright off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. Wright (6-0, 234) signed with Philadelphia as a free agent in January 2010, after originally being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round (111th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Fresno State. He appeared in 15 games with the Bills during his rookie season and gained 94 yards on 29 carries. The Bills released Wright prior to the start of the 2008 season. He spent the 2009 training camp with the New York Giants, but was released during the final preseason roster cuts. The Steelers made room for Wright on their roster by releasing rookie fullback Demetrius Taylor. Taylor signed with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie this past April. i dont really get the point of this, the steelers could make frank the tank a FB, and well we have redman he needs no FB lol

Ravens' Sergio Kindle Injured in Fall

Sergio Kindle, the Ravens’ first pick in the second round last April, suffered a head injury in a house he was visiting Thursday night in Austin, Texas. It is believed that Kindle fell down two flights of stairs. Kindle is stable, being treated and observed. Members of the Ravens’ medical staff are in communication with doctors at University Medical Center Brackenridge. Kindle will not report to McDaniel College with other rookies this Monday when the team’s training camp starts. "Members of our medical staff, including Bill Tessendorf and Dr. Andy Tucker, have spoken with doctors in Texas. We understand Sergio is stable at this time and that he is being tested and observed," said Ozzie Newsome, the Ravens’ executive vice president and general manager.
