The Rockies and the Dodgers start a very important 3 game series tonight. I will now present my case that today, Giants fans have to do the unthinkable... we need to root for the Dodgers. 

The standings are as follows (GB = games back):

The Rockies are 3GB of the Dodgers in the West.
The Giants are 7GB of the Dodgers in the West.
The Giants are 4GB of the the Rockies in the Wild Card.

West Standings:

Dodgers
Rockies 3GB
Giants 7GB

Wild Card:

Rockies
Giants 4GB

The Situation:

If the Rockies were to sweep the Dodgers, and we also sweep the Diamondbacks (keeping pace), we would no longer be 4GB of ONE team for a playoff spot, but TWO teams. All things being equal, and not considering any other wild card teams, this would nearly double our chances of missing the playoffs. If the Rockies swept, and we lost even one game to the Dbags, we'd be 5GB of TWO teams. Ouch.

If the Dodgers sweep the Rockies, and we also sweep the Diamondbacks, we would no longer be 4GB of ONE team for a playoff spot, but 1GB back of ONE team (Rockies) for a playoff spot. All things being equal, and not considering any other wild card teams, this would drastically increase our chances of making the playoffs. 

Sadly, as Giants fans, we need to root for the Dodgers. Discuss.
