Some intriguing prospects still out there
So in my opinion, it has been a pretty solid first 3 rounds for the Dolphins. The FO hasn't made any ridiculous picks (contrary to popular belief) and we landed three solid prospects, even though we entered the draft with only two picks in the first three rounds.
Us fans need to remember that, just because we haven't drafted completely based on need so far, does NOT mean we have failed. If you read up on what any scout or analyst has to write about these three players, they are good things.
- Odrick was a GREAT pick, he provides elite talent on the defensive line as well as versatility....while also netting us a 2nd rounder and LB depth(Dobbins). Also, with all the talk about tweaking the defensive system, a player like him might be more valuable to the system than a 2 down run stuffer.
- Koa Misi was projected to go 3rd round by most BUT that does not mean the pick was a reach. It simply means that the FO saw him as a better fit than Kindle and Worilds, which at this point, we really have no ideaif they are wrong. I mean, who says Mayock and Kiper are more qualified to judge 3-4 prospects than the trio are?
- John Jerry is an absolute beast of an offensive lineman and I, for one, am never disappointed with a beastly lineman who could possibly come in and start right away. A large number of scouts love this guy and you really can make an argument that OG is a position of need, especially with Smiley on the trading block.
Now, I'm not one to blindly agree with my favorite team's every move so I will say that if i was GM, I would have done things a little differently. I would have liked to see us pick up Worilds instead of Misi and I might have selected Major Wright in the 3rd round but that doesn't mean I am RIGHT about those picks. As all of us know, we really won't find out who the better picks are for another 2-3 years so we should all just sit tight and wait until then to judge.
Now for the title of the post...some intriguing players left on the board:
- Robert Johnson, FS, Utah
- Reshad Jones, S, Georgia
- Anthony McCoy, TE, USC
- Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU
- Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida (Ranked as #1 TE by NationalFBPost's Wes Bunting)
- Ricky Sapp, OLB, Clemson
- Eric Norwood, OLB, South Car (Although I doubt he lands in MIA due to size)
- AJ Edds, OLB, Iowa (Great target for MIA, Parcells type player)
- Cam Thomas, NT, NC
- LaGarette Blount, RB, Oregon
- Dmitri Nance, RB, AZ St.
- Micah Johnson, LB, Kentcky
- Carlton Mitchell, WR, South Florida
- Daryl Sharpton, ILB, Mia(Fl)
As you hopefully see, a lot of quality talent out there still. So with one more day left, lets hope to address our remaining needs while still picking up good value, I trust our FO...and no, not just because I'm an idiot fan, but because they've earned to the last two years.
Beautiful Day
It has been decided that The Dansb is one of us, on this beautiful morning of March the 6th 2009.
So read up and educate yourselves. Get life done and always recycle.
Be kind to your fellow neighbors and hold doors for the elderly.
This video is for the children... Its a combo highlight of A.Wilson, Dockett and Dansby. Most of the plays are coming from Karlos however so enjoy.

The Wild Horses Offense?
This weekend some big things happened in the AFC east. Of course, we defeated the Jets in amazing fashion and also, the Pats lost to the rising Broncos, putting the Dolphins only one game out of first place.
There was something interesting the Broncos included in their offense this Sunday, they call it the "Wild Horses" formation. To my understanding it is similar to the way the Dolphins line up in the Wildcat, only Orton splits out as a wideout and has the option to come back under center after he reads the defense from that position of the field.
At first I just saw it as an attempt to recreate the successful Wildcat the Dolphin's have been running, however, it caught my eye this Sunday. This is simply because it was working...and often. Several times they lined up in the formation and there was receivers and tight ends wide open roaming in the secondary.
Not only did this catch my eye but it seems as if Tony Sparano was paying attention to it as well, mentioning it in one of his press briefings. Maybe this was because it was effective against another AFC East rival and threat? Well I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to maybe try out some of this Wild Horses version of the formation...If you think about it, the Dolphins are so successful running the Wildcat that if they lined up with Ronnie under center like usual, the defense would adjust to stop this based on what they have seen us run on tape...but if Chad (who is lined up as receiver) then comes back under center, it gives them a different look and the safety gets confused, as we saw in the Bronco's game.
I think this could definitely be effective, even more so then it was with the Broncos, because we run the regular running formation so well...
What do my fellow Phinsider folk think?
Could this happen?
First, I would like to throw out there that I'm not a huge fan of trading for players in the middle of the season...especially for draft picks when the team is rebuilding.
Now with that said, I've been thinking about a fanpost that jazztrumpeter89 wrote with an article by Adam Schefter. It said that the Cheifs wouldn't hesitate trading wideout Dwayne Bowe for the right price.
Well, first, I think that Bowe is a great receiver with some huge upside. He fits the mold of that number one guy the Dolphins need opposite Ginn, not to mention hes been extremely productive his first two years hes been in the league.
With this regime, I usually dismiss any notion of us trading away draft picks for players( and thats probably what the Cheifs want since they are rebuilding and don't really need a player for this season.) but in this case it could very well be possible.
Scott Pioli is Parcells son-in-law I believe (if not, they are associated through family somehow) and as you know, the new GM of the Cheifs....I thought it was funny when Pioli's former team, the Pats, traded away Cassel to his new team...Im sure that wasn't a coincidence.
So what I'm saying is that Pioli might be talking to the people he knows first and Parcells and him have that connection...We need a #1 receiver and if Parcells can trade a 3rd and a 5th rounder or maybe a 2nd rounder (more likely) for him, I think it would benefit us more than hurt us. Its not like Bowe is a middle aged guy whos already at or past his prime, hes still growing and can potentially be very good....not like he already isn't....
Imagine if we had Bowe on one side, Ginn on the other and Bess, Cam and Hartline in the slot. We'd have a very respected and young WR corps.
Fantasy Football Question
Hello fellow Dolphin fans, I come to you in need of advice.
I'm trying to decide on which running back I should start this week along with MJD....My choices are, Clinton Portis or Ronnie Brown...
I want to start Brown of course, because I love him, but Portis is playing the Lions...However, Ronnie has put up better numbers so far and I think hes the better back....
So im stuck...What do you think?
Thanks
Who is the most underrated Dolphin?
I ask my fellow dolphin fans, who is the most underrated player on the team? And I don't mean from a coaches prespective but from the fans.
What was your favorite off-season move?
Well 2009's NFL off-season was just like most of the them in the past, full of surprising trades (Cutler to the Bears), shockingly dumb draft day moves (Heywerd-Bey and Mark Sanchez) and of course a Favre watch.
If Pennington Succeeds
Ok, well I think we all know that if Chad Pennington is unsuccessful this year then Henne will take over under center, either next year or sometime during the season.
But what if Pennington is successful and all our hopes and dreams come true this season and we make the playoffs...lets even go as far as the AFC Championship, but we lose....(hypothetically, of course I hope we'd win)
Do we re-sign Pennington as our starting quarterback or do we let him free and have Henne assume the role?
I'd like to hear some other Dolphin fan's views on this....
