Selig brings no joy to Motor City
"As Jim Joyce said in his postgame comments, there is no dispute that last night's game should have ended differently. While the human element has always been an integral part of baseball, it is vital that mistakes on the field be addressed. Given last night's call and other recent events, I will examine our umpiring system, the expanded use of instant replay and all other related features. Before I announce any decisions, I will consult with all appropriate parties, including our two unions and the Special Committee for On-Field Matters, which consists of field managers, general managers, club owners and presidents."
Will not reverse call

Good article about Revenue
Yankees and Royals spend the same %of revenue on baseball costs? Crazy. The Yankees revenue is almost double the number two team, the New York Mets. An interesting counterpoint to make when people cry about the Yankees salaries.
But the whole theme that some teams TRY to win while other DO NOT TRY to win -- well, even if there is some truth in that statement, it's almost certainly overblown. Let's put it this way:
• If you had to pick one team out there that is TRYING to win, you probably would say the New York Yankees.
• If you had to pick one team out there this is NOT TRYING to win, you would probably say the Kansas City Royals.
OK, well, last year, according to theForbesnumbers, the Yankees made $441 million in revenue* and spent about $416 million on baseball. That means they spent 94.4% of their revenue on baseball, a nice high percentage.
And the Royals? Well, they only made $155 million in revenue, and they spent about 146 million. That means they spent 94.3% of their revenue on baseball.
Can PSA please ban the ChoiceCollectibles fanposts?
Not to bone pick but I come here to read posts from fellow fans and the moderators, not have fanposts about some memorabilia they are trying to dump. If they want to advertise their wares then let them pay for advertisement space. What is gonna stop every tom dick and harry with an autographed A-Rod ball from spamming the hell out of the fanposts. I have nothing against these guys but I think it decreases the signal to noise ratio.
What the hell is that around their neck?
Finally occurred to me ask the other fine fans. What the hell is that giant lanyard necklace many players, and especially pitchers wear? I am assuming it is NOT for fashion because they look stupid. I have seen a few pitchers wear quite a few at the same time, looking like some sort of broke Mr. T who could no longer afford the gold chains. I need 10 more words to finish my fan post, well I guess that does the job.
Yankee Fans. Where are you?
Just curious as to the location of many fans on PSA and their roots in New York. Slow news day, work is slow here in California, the Bay Bridge is closed for the weekend for repair work so half of my studio didn't come in. (For those who have never been the Bay Bridge is the bridge that links San Francisco and the East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley etc). Think of the Queensboro bridge being the ONLY connection into Manhattan from Brooklyn/Queens and it shutting down all weekend.... yeeeeah. Anyhow, where ya from? Are you a native or just a convert and decided to follow the righteous path. As for myself I am a native, grew up in Ozone Park, moved to Glen Cove LI when I was 10. Lived in the Bronx, Queens and most of my family is in Brooklyn. Left the home of B.I.G for the land of Tupac 7 years ago.
Future of Matsui and Damon
I just thought I would ask the faithful what they think the chances are of the Yankees keeping one or both past this season? Personally I would try and sign Johnny to a one year contract plus a club option for a reduced number. Matsui is the tough one. He no longer can play the OF, he is a dog on the base paths, BUT he is a left handed power hitter, he is clutch as hell AND he can also hit lefty pitching well. That does not grow on trees. Do you offer him a 1 year incentive laden deal? But with Jorge can the Yankees waste a spot on the bench to basically two DH's? Jorge can only catch (poorly) and Matsui can't play LF anymore unless he gets some magic Forest Gump legs during the offseason. If we don't keep Matsui I see him going to Seattle to end his MLB career. Closer to Japan, gets to play with Ichiro and would probably be a fan favorite. Your thoughts?
Things I think I think that I think you should think
Now while still being unhappy about the Yankees lack of heart against the Sox, last nights game showed me the ghosts were willing to help out a little. There are some concerns with this high priced, highly talented team. We have problems that I think need to be adjusted in the coaching staff. I am sorry, I just cannot abide the lack of hitting with RISP. I cannot abide the ridiculous pitch counts all our starters are hitting. Kevin Long has taught the guys to be patient at the plate, that is great. Problem is once those runners are in scoring position all bets are off. I am sorry, I just do NOT have faith in him as a coach. As for our pitchers, is there a Stottlemyer available somewhere? Eiland's coaching has been horrendous. Our bullpen has been atrocious, our starters seem to be afraid to challenge the hitters. Is the catcher and pitcher not getting together? Well guess what, that is something the manager and p. coach need to address. Some people think, well none of these issues are the coaches fault. I disagree with that logic, because that would mean the ONLY effect a manager/coach has on a team is calling when to run, when to attempt a pickoff or when to make a defensive shift. Managers matter. Coaches matter. Girardi makes some bone headed calls, but no more or less than Torre does or Francona for that matter. But the coaches are responsible for their particular aspects. The hitting coach is responsible for how his hitters deal with RISP, their approach. The pitching coach is responsible for how the staff attacks hitters, works their counts and helps the catcher's call the game. I think our weakest links on the team are Long and Eiland. They have not proven that they benefit the team. Do you think if Mel had these pitchers he would have had them look this bad? Wish Mattingly would come back. Someone suggested Cone as pitching coach. That would be awesome.
Wang
It was truly wonderful to see Wang pitch those two innings. As was stated, he looked "filthy". If he gets some more innings and builds his arm strength back up, he can start hitting 92-94 on his pitches again. If he can keep locating down in the zone, he is may make quite a comeback. I for one have been a little perturbed by how he has been so casually treated by the media and the fans. The second he started to fail this season there were calls for blood. Even before he got injured last season the media seemed to take no real notice of him. Considering he pitched two consecutive 19 win game seasons and was 8-2 at the time. He was well on his way to another 19+ season. My question is did and does Wang get less of media attention or rope because he is asian? Or because he is a very quiet unassuming player? I mean if Hughes came up and pitched 3 seasons like Wang did and he had the horrible starts Wang did this year, I still don't think the media or the Yankees fans would have been belittling him as much as they were Wang. I would hope race isn't the issue, and I suspect maybe it isn't. But at the same time, I wonder if guys like Dice-K and Wang get less rope than pitchers of white or latin backgrounds. Just something to ponder. Can you connect the two pitchers in this list and guess what they have in common?
CC Sabathia
Roy Halladay
Brandon Webb
Roy Oswalt
Josh Beckett
AJ Burnett
Johan Santana
Justin Verlander
Dan Haren
Cliff Lee
Chien-Ming Wang
Chien-Ming Wang + Roy Halladay are the only two pitchers on this list that have had back to back seasons of 19+ wins. Wang was WELL on his way to being the ONLY pitcher to have back-back-back 19+ wins. Does this mean Wang is better than these guys? No. Much smaller sample size (which actually makes it even more impressive). But he should be as well regarded as the others. In my humble opinion he is not. If he keeps it up JoeG is gonna have one helluva a problem on his hands. Who are the starting 5 gonna be? I am sure it is a problem every manager in the bigs would love to have.
Things I think I think that I think you should think
Cervelli. Kid is awesome. Gritty. I think he is our backstop future. I love Molina but maybe someone will want Molina to be a full time catcher. NL?
Sabathia. Great game. I think he needs to add another pitch to his repertoire.
Joba. Got into it with some 20 year old at the Stadium about Joba being a setup man. I told him with his logic we should also have Sabathia in as our setup man to the setup man. Wish people used their brains sometimes and not listen to Mitch Williams on MLB Live.
Mitch Williams. Is it me or almost ever announcer on MLB XM and MLB TV hate the Yankees? Mitch Williams annoys me the most. He reminds me of an annoying, pushy used car dealer.
Sterling. I would rather listen to the opponents game callers than him and whatshername. "He bashed it!" No shit lady. "Mark sends a Tex message!" Dude. Stop. Please.
Jeter. The Captain can still rake with bases loaded. Nice hit the other night.
Cannot wait for Ortiz to get outed. Nothing worse than being lectured about hating Roids by someone who everyone outside of New England knows was on Roids.
Haven't forgotten that ETVal and Travis picked against the Yankees for AL East. I am keeping that in my back pocket all season.
My Trip to the Cathedral
Well I just returned home to the Bay Area after my week long excursion back to my hometown of New York. Bagels? Check. Pizza? Check. BoarsHead cold cuts on fresh Italian bread? Check. Gastronomic excellence aside, it was time for business. See the new Yankee Stadium.
I feel very lucky to get to have my first two Yankee games in the new park happen to be Friday and Saturday's walkoff wins against the Twins. Excellent baseball all around. How awesome are Mauer and Morneau? Geeez. But I have to say I was thrilled to watch the fight in our beloved Yankees. Our pitching was decent, still some issues with RISP. Once the hitters figure that out watchout, you are going to see our starters rack up wins.
Now for the Stadium itself. No question, it is a gorgeous monument. The main hall is beautiful and it is very roomy and top notch quality all the way around. I do not like that the upper decks are no longer tiered closer to the field, I did love the claustrophobic feel and I miss how you could hear the chants from the opposite field. The seats are comfy. I was annoyed to no end how empty the stadium was on Friday night and how half the people on the field level left in 9th. The Yankees need to address these issues. If by the third inning those tickets aren't used they should have a stand-by system in place like in the airline industry. Charge the corporations a fee every game a ticket is not used.
Overall, satisfied with the park. I hope this team is the one that builds great memories in the park and helps usher the ghosts from across the street. It will not be a Yankee Stadium until there is some exciting October ball played there.

Chinese Destroying Baseball?
Ha I bet some of you were about to tear me a new one there. Well no, the Chinese are not destroying our past time, but a breed of insects native to China may change how we hit the ball. Seems like an insect native to China has hopped the border and now looks to destroy all 16 species of Ash trees in North America with very little hope of us preventing it. The alternative is to buy Ash from China. Ok what? So China has super resistant Ash trees? Instead of buying their lumber can we just get some seeds?
I love this guy. Simply love this guy.
This guy is one of my favorite Yankees in years. He is the antithesis of Paul O'Neil in demeanor but obviously just as fierce of a competitor. I hope Nady is ok, but I really am excited to watch the "Idiot" play right for awhile. This guy can hit when he needs, he is willing to make a fool of himself to lighten up the team. He is surly as tonight's game showed that it is not smart to brush him back at the head.
Interview after posting a donut
Joba thinks NYers are Rude
He says New Yorkers are rude! Go F*!@% !%@$ your mothers %!^@% chinstrap
New Yorkers are bad drivers! Ever drive 2nd ave at 6pm?
Says Yogi Berra is short! Not next to an oompa loompa
Is this blown out of proportion? Just another hit and run by the media who so clearly hate the Yankees? I mean I understand the flak Mel Gibson got but geeeez, when I drive home drunk from the strip club and get pulled over I will say all kinds of things to distract the cop from the body in the trunk. I kid. But in all seriousness there was nothing really bashing from Chamberlain, he actually just seems like a likeable kid.
