KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Royals made a series of roster moves today and announced several more moves for tomorrow. Prior to tonight's game in Texas, the Royals reinstated outfielder Mark Teahen from the 15-day disabled list, and recalled right-handed pitchers Kyle Davies and Leo Nunez from Wichita (AA). All three players will be in uniform for tonight's game.

In addition to today's moves, tomorrow the Royals will recall 2006 first overall selection Luke Hochevar and first baseman Justin Huber, and purchase the contracts of catcher Paul Phillips and first baseman Craig Brazell. All four players will join Kansas City from the Triple-A Omaha roster.

http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20070903&content_id=2 187510&vkey=pr_kc&fext=.jsp&c_id=kc

September Callups?

With MLB rosters expanding on September 1st and teams calling up players for the expansion as soon as today or tomorrow, does anyone have an idea of which players on the various team will be called up? Any possible surprises? Elite Prospects?

Also, are the callups limited to the 40-man roster?

Good thing I already did this before the draft.

C: Devin Mesaraco
ST: Sean Watson
LR: Richie Gardner
LR: Tyler Pelland
MR: Same Lecure
SU: Marcus McBeth
SU: Thomas Pauley
CL: Bill Bray

Just going with the talent they presently have. I imagine that Arroyo, Encarnacion, & Gonzalez might not be in Cincy by2010. In case you all were wondering, 2010 is supposed to the peak year for the Redfs because there are a lot of contracts ending after that year (Harang, Arroyo, Phillips, &Gonzalez). The Reds minor league system is having a fantastic year all-around. Still, that looks like a lot of offense (I love the OF) and some great to good arms. I'm happy with it give or take.

Drew Stubbs

It seems that the prospects of Drew Stubbs actually fullfilling his skills and meriting his Top 10 pick in the 2006 draft have suddenly become pretty good. The reason? Choking up.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=547

Thats right a simple move of the hands that our Dad's always told us to do when we were younger. But most of us, like myself, eventually realized that we could generate more power from swinging with the whole bat. The draw back is the that we sacrificed bat speed and it takes longer to loadup for a pitch. Many years ago, studs like Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, and Willy Mays all choked up on the bat. One of the main reasons was because they usually swung heavier bats than the sluggers of today do but maybe they were on to something. Barry Bonds has long preached that choking up allows him to get the bat through the zone much quicker and the rest is well...history. Many Japanese batters take a similar approach when they come over to the majors to better compensate for better MLB pitching. Is this the solve-all? Well, no, but it could certainly help free-swinging

The Tigers will call up Jair Jurrjens to start Wednesday against the Indians.

Virgil Vasquez gets bypassed again. It'll probably be one and done for Jurrjens, as Andrew Miller is due back next week, but he's another youngster that could possibly be viewed as an upgrade over Chad Durbin.

rotoworld

Ian Kennedy to be promoted?

The Yankees are "seriously" considering promoting Ian Kennedy for Tuesday's start against the Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

Kennedy, their No. 1 pick in last year's draft, is a possible candidate to make his major-league debut when the Yankees need a starter to fill in for Roger Clemens. The plan with Kennedy hinges on what happens with reliever Jeff Karstens this weekend. If he was needed in relief last night or today, Kennedy will get the call.
Chase Headley called up

RotoWorld.com has learned that Chase Headley is being called up for Friday's game and will be in the lineup against the Cubs.

As if it wasn't already obvious, Padres manager Bud Black just isn't a fan of Russell Branyan. If Kevin Kouzmanoff goes on the DL, Headley will likely get a chance to play fairly regularly for a couple of weeks, making him a decent option in NL-only leagues. Headley has hit .357/.433/.648 in 227 at-bats for Double-A San Antonio.

rotoworld
-------

I personally think Headley is now a Top 5 3B prospect (right there with Stewart) and he could potentially overtake Kouzmanoff if Kouz comes back down from his recent hot streak.

Yunel Escobar called up today

"Braves purchased the contract of INF Yunel Escobar from Triple-A Richmond.

He's up now, though he's not expected to be available until Saturday. Escobar, 24, was hitting .333/.379/.456 with two homers and seven steals in 180 at-bats in Triple-A. His ability to hit for average could carry over to the majors, but he's not likely to contribute much elsewhere. Expect him to get the majority of the starts at third until Chipper Jones returns." rotoworld.com
----

This move is for Chipper going on the DL but I think he might be he has a lot of talent and might even be trade bait for a team looking for a SS or 2B for the future.

"According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Devil Rays may call up Andy Sonnanstine from Triple-A to start Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

He would replace either Jae Seo or Casey Fossum in the rotation, and the Devil Rays may also call up J.P. Howell to grab a starting spot. An extreme control pitcher with outstanding minor league numbers, Sonnanstine is like a slightly poorer man's Kevin Slowey and could good value in AL-only leagues eventually."

Now that Ryan Braun has been called up by the Brewers, who is the best bat that will be called up this year? A lot of these guys are pretty distant but have been promoted aggressively.
