One Bronco Nation Under God VT versus Boise State in the Orange Bowl?

Seriously, If Virginia Tech wins the ACC Championship game this weekend against Clemson, that probably means that Tech would play the Big East champion in the Orange Bowl. At this point, that easily could be a 7-5 Louisville Cardinal team that lost to Florida International and Marshall. This is a BCS bowl team? Who would want to see that? There might be 10,000 people there. Tech fans I know would much rather see VT play Boise State for obvious reasons ... much better team, a lot more interest in the game from casual fans, and it would give us a chance to even the series with you guys. Your fans would travel to Miami in January, wouldn't you? Could be a raucous crowd and a great game. Personally, I'd love to see it happen.

Congratulations on another great year, and on your fantastic quarterback. Best of luck wherever you guys end up at the end of this season.

One Bronco Nation Under God Hey, Broncos, good luck against UGA!

I think that your guys win tomorrow night, and I'm rooting for them. Georgia habitually squanders the talent it has, while Boise State seems to make the best out of what you have. Advantage, Boise. If you talk to a Georgia fan, I think that what you would hear is apprehension in their voices. They know that they need to have a great year -- what with all the talent in this year's recruiting class -- but if the game goes as expected, Georgia will be pressured and tight and Boise will be experienced and relaxed. Advantage, Boise. Just thinking about it as a neutral observer, I'd be very surprised if Georgia won. Now turnovers can undo all advantages -- look at the 2005 game -- but Kellen Moore is unlikely to have six turnovers in the first half, or even in the whole game. So I'm picking Boise and will watch with great interest. I'd say something like 28-13. If Georgia makes the kind of mistakes my Hokies did early last year, I'd say it would be more like 45-10. Enjoy your time in the Deep South, and have a good, safe trip out and back home. And best wishes for another great year.

One Bronco Nation Under God Merry Christmas, Broncos!

And best wishes in your bowl game. I'm sorry that this season didn't work out the way you all hoped it would, but it still was one to value and remember. I was rooting for you guys to get to the Rose Bowl at least. Leaving home-school bias aside, how do you think Boise would match up with Auburn or Oregon. Cal theoretically showed how to beat Oregon, but maybe the Ducks simply had a bad day. Auburn ... how does one stop Cam Newton? Of course, any team is beatable if it turns the ball over, but on a level playing field, how would Boise handle Auburn? I was hoping that you all would get your chance to show what you could do.

So my best wishes to you all for a great Holiday Season and a happy, healthy, prosperous -- and undefeated -- 2011. Personally, I would love to see Virginia Tech play Boise again. It was an exciting, dramatic and pretty well-played game the first time. Maybe we can meet again next year for all the marbles.

One Bronco Nation Under God Coach Pete handled the loss with a lot of class

I didn't see the final half of the Nevada game. Probably like a lot of people, I turned the game off here in Virginia at halftime, secure in the knowledge that the Broncos had won again and were on their way to a possible title game, but the Rose Bowl at least. I was astonished on Saturday morning to hear the news, and I can understand how you all feel. In the title game against Florida State, VT marched down the field in the opening drive, and then Michael Vick turned the wrong way at the goal line and fumbled the ball into the end zone, where it was picked up by FSU. A touchdown there, and maybe the game ends differently. FSU went out to a big lead, and then VT rallied to take the lead going into the fourth quarter where FSU's depth took over and VT lost. Haven't been back since, so I completely understand just how hard it is to climb that mountain if you're not one of the perennial football programs.

I thought that Coach Pete and Kellen handled the inevitable questions about the loss with a lot of class and sensitivity, a reflection on Bronco Nation. Just know that I feel your pain, and I wish you all well in the future. Personally, I was hoping for a VT-Boise matchup in the Orange Bowl this year, but maybe another time.

One Bronco Nation Under God Congratulations and good luck

Just a quick note to congratulate the Broncos and their fans on their win over my Hokies. It was a tough place to play, and the Broncos were very professional in the way that they took care of their business. As I said before, I'll be rooting for your guys the rest of the way, and I hope that you get to the title game and to show what you all can do there. And I hope Chrissie and her family got home okay. Best wishes for a terrific season.

One Bronco Nation Under God Colin Cowherd blasted VT today

I didn't hear the broadcast, but apparently he said that VT is overrated and so is Tyrod Taylor. This was part of his diatribe about Boise State not belonging in the national title game if you guys go undefeated because your signature win would have been against an overrated VT. My guess is he was stirring up both fan bases to increase ratings, but I'd say that there are a lot worse places to be than in the featured college football game on the opening weekend of the season. Too bad it wasn't a Saturday night. Maybe College Gameday would have been there instead of in Atlanta for what could be a real snoozefest -- UNC vs. LSU. Personally, I don't really have an opinion about who is or is not overrated or how this game might play out. The teams are different from last year. They have had no common opponents. It's the first game, and on and on. And most football games are won by the team that makes the fewest turnovers. All I know is I will be there two weeks, and I expect a great game.

You all should remember something else: when VT went undefeated in 1999, there were some who said that we "didn't belong" in the title game, in spite of the fact that the team had beaten a ranked opponent by the biggest margin in history -- 62-0 -- had beaten Miami 43-10, and had beaten several other ranked opponents. Some thought that Nebraska "belonged" even though they had lost a game. So we understand where you guys are right now. Beat VT and run the table, I'd say that you will have done enough to play for all the marbles, and I'll be rooting for you guy in every game ... except one.

One Bronco Nation Under God The VT game

When Boise State played Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, I stayed up and watched the whole thing, and when your guys scored in overtime, I was saying, "Go for two! End it right here!" It was clear to me that your defense was gassed, and your guys probably wouldn't have another chance to win it outright. The next day, I interviewed actor Robert Duvall for an article I was writing, and he said that he had watched the game. "One of the best college games I've ever seen," he said.

In any case, as we both approach the Labor Day game, I can say that VT fans respect what Boise State has done over the last decade and are eager to see how it all will play out. We expect to field a better team than last year, with a possibly-explosive offense. So we're looking forward to seeing how we match up with your Broncos. It should be a great game, and we wish your guys good luck and good health. I'll be at the game. It should be an electric atmosphere. Can't wait!
