DRaysBay Looking for a Guide for Out of Town Visitors to Tropicana Field

Greetings Rays Fans!

A couple friends and I take a trip to a different baseball stadium each year and are heading to Tampa/St. Pete for Orioles series in mid-May. I've done some searching around the interwebs and need some help. I'd love it if you guys can help design an idea 48 hours in the area centered around Friday night and Saturday afternoon games.

Basically, the trips will consist of the games, one good meal at a place that is unique to the area, good pizza and/or burgers, drinking in sports bars, and something to do during the day on Saturday before the 4:00 game.  Ideally, the restaurants and definitely the bars are walking distance from the hotel.

We're also open to anything else sports-related. If the Lightning are still going strong and have a game that Saturday night, we're in great shape, but if that doesn't work out, we'd love to know what else to look for.

Finally, tips on what neighborhood to stay in and whether we should rent a car or rely on cabs would be great.

Basically, I'd for those of you who live in the area to help design your ideal 2-day Rays trip.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Research Project Request re: What does Pittsburgh's Domination of the Cubs Mean

I have a question that I'm hoping someone even more curious than me wants to take the time to research. When the Cubs got swept by the Pirates, I wondered when the last time a team got swept by the Pirates made the playoffs. It turned out, the World Series Champion Cardinals were swept by the Pirates in 2006. But that streak ended at 3. What I now want to know is 1) when is the last time the Pirates won 5 in a row over any team; 2) when is the last time the Pirates won 5 in a row over a team that ended the season with a winning record; and 3) when is the last time the Pirates won 5 in a row over a team that made the playoffs. The suckitude of this Cubs team is staggering. I moved past depressed a while and now want to have some fun with it. So if anyone wants to take the time to find the answers to the above questions, I'd appreciate it.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Cubs sale to Ricketts APPROVED

Per the normally useless Dave Kaplan, the other 29 owners of MLB teams met via conference call today and approved the sale of the Cubs to the Ricketts family.  Before things become official, it has to go through some bankruptcy issues next week.  After that, the banks putting up the cash to fund the deal get 10 days to think things over before they are required to loan the money.  The deal is expected to close around the end of the month.

Apparently, part of the great Shawon Dunston's contract dealings with the Cubs included a contractual obligation for the Cubs to pay for Dunston to go to college.

Today, Dunston filed in the Bankruptcy Court handling the Cubs deal asking that the bankruptcy not go through until he gets paid.

No word on whether Dunston actually wants to go to college. My guess is he's just protecting his right or wants a quick payment to compensate him for giving up his claim, which, if the scholarship was actually part of his contract, he is certainly entitled to do.

UPDATE (8:15 Central Time): Paul Sullivan shows he's not 100% useless. He called Dunston to find out the scoop. Turns out Dunston says he doesn't want anything, isn't planning on college and the filing was just a formality: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-talk-shawon-dunston-lettersep18,0,3387592.story
