According to a source with direct knowledge of the situation, the NCAA has granted the Universities of Maryland and Texas a one-year grace period with regard to a recently passed rule, which subjects "publicly designated" coaches-in-waiting to the same recruiting restrictions as current head coaches. The schools will use the year to pursue relief from the new rule through official NCAA procedures.

Yesterday
Aggie Fan 1: Those dang tu players are bunch of crooks. That's what Buckner gets for coming to the Holy Land which is College Station and messing with our girls
Aggie Fan 2: Darn right! I'm gonna give all my tea-sip friends a call and ask them about the kind of program Mack Brown is runnin ova der.

Today
Aggie fan 1: Did you hear our very own Jeff Fuller was arrested? He is supposed to be the next T.O>
Aggie fan 2: That's a bunch of bull, this is a conspiracy! The Longhorns control the media, and they leaked this information to cover up for Buckner's arrest.

"Haven’t we beaten them the last two years?"

Colt's hilarious and accurate response to a reporter's question about Stoops helping Alabama.

Also, I've seen reports that Muschamp has formally signed his coach-in-waiting contract, but haven't found a link.

Texas AD DeLoss Dodds took questions earlier today over at the Dallas Mornings News website.

I found this interesting-
[Comment From Pony]
DeLoss, thanks for bringing Mack Brown to Texas. How do the schedules get made? Is it as easy as calling Washington's AD up and saying "Are you free the 24th?" or do you have a pattern you stick with?

DeLoss Dodds: What we're finding out in scheduling football games is a lot of people dont' want to play Texas. You have to start with that. The advantage we do have is a lot of football programs want to be in the state of Texas because of the recruiting base here. It's not as easy as it looks from the outside. It takes a good deal of conversation, managing schedules and balancing what you need your schedules to look like. But again, you start with the fact a lot of people don't want to play Texas.

Epic matchup between the 'Buffs and Mountaineers.

Game is already in the 2nd quarter, all tied up at 7.

Anyone up for this? If not, atleast I just didn't clog up the Fanposts.

I doing think any of us envisioned Orakpo playing Linebacker in a 4-3 when we were having this debate.

Ivan Maisel has a nice article on the Texas-OU game. Nothing insightful, but still a good read.

ESPN has their bowl projections up, Schlabach and Feldman both have Texas playing Florida in the Title Game.

Besides their projections, how cool is that picture. Forget the Swim move, that must be the "Predator".

Do you ever visit sites similar to LoneStarBall? If so, have you ever engaged in conversation there? Would you ever discuss Ranger's items there?
2:48 Jon Daniels: Yes I visit there occassionally. No I haven't gotten involved other than reading some of the entries, but yes I'd participate if asked.

Scroggins

Some QB prospects determine which school they will attend based on offensive scheme, location, and playing time, but QB Jessie Scroggins has something else in mind.. Notice the hint ESPN gives on the far left side where all the potential schools are lined up.

Good read.. Second time in a year Colt has gone. Hopefully, there were not cameras around so we don't have to see footage during each game.

Burnt Orange Nation Sergio Kindle Update

According to Chip Brown's source Sergio Kindle is leaning toward returning next year, and said the odds are "60-40".

You can find the article here--

If you are not a paid subscriber, I'll try summarize it as much as possible.

-Muschamp met with Kindle and his Dad sometime over Christmas, and by all accounts it was solid meeting.

-The source close to the situation stated, Muschamp advised Sergio "if he gets a first-round grade that he needs to go."

-Muschamp believes Sergio at this point Kindle is suited to be a linebacker in a 3-4 defense, which decreases his odds of getting drafted in first round since only 7 teams in the NFL run the 3-4.

-Muschamp wants to turn Kindle in to an "elite" pass rusher as well as a outside linebacker so he could a good fit on any NFL defense.

-The relationship between Kindle and Muschamp is the main reason Kindle is leaning towards returning.  His best friends on the team are Seniors and if Muschamp had left "it's almost a certainty Kindle would be gone to the NFL, the source said".

As a side note, Kindle grew 1 inch this past year to put him at a solid 6-5 and weighing 240.

5-star DE Devon Kennard comments on his trip to USC, and confirms his visit to Texas.

Let's hope Muschamp seals the deal.

Burnt Orange Nation Fulmer Farewell- A Lesson Should be Learned

After the news leaked that Lane Kiffin would be hired at Tennessee, I thought I would take a stroll over to Rocky Top Talk to see what  their fans were saying, and I ran across a excellent post by "Joel" who paid tribute to all the contributions of Phil Fulmer.  Obviously, over the past few year the fans in Knoxville were getting pretty fed up with the lack of on the field success, and most were probably ready for a change.  The mistake that Volunteers fans and many fans make is that we become so emotionally involved in our team, that when winning is no longer taking place we are quick to condemn the head coach and forget all previous success that coach has brought us.

Burnt Orange Nation 2009 Recruiting Class

If you are anything like me I am sure you have basically given up trying to figure out how Texas will end up in the title game.  I've read BillyZane's BCS post so much I close my eyes and all I see is the BCS poll.  At lunch today I mistakenly asked for the Sagarin sandwich.  When I open up an Excel spreadsheet at work I spend the first 5 minutes looking for the S.O.S column.  So to keep everyone fresh, and change the topic of discussion I thought I would share with you ESPN's 2009 team recruiting rankings and the current commit list.  FYI, ESPN is not the only site I visit for recruiting information, this has just been updated and thought it was interesting. Although, I'll admit I like viewing their site just because they don't have those damn "star" rankings.

Burnt Orange Nation Danielson runs his mouth again

Yes, I know this whole Gary Danielson thing is kind of overplayed, and you are probably tired of hearing about it, but I just had to share this with you. The earlier quote which has been getting the most attention was from FoxSports Radio. NOW THIS on CBSsports.com.

"I really believe for half the schools that don't run the spread, you cannot find a quarterback in the country that can beat out Matthew Stafford. For the other half of the schools that do run the spread, I don't think you can find a quarterback in the country that could beat out Tim Tebow. This week we have the perfect spread quarterback facing off against the perfect pro-style quarterback. They are the two best quarterbacks in the country."

Burnt Orange Nation Craig Loston's coach: "He's going to LSU"

Artice below is about Craig Loston commmiting to LSU, from espn.com.

Anyone have any idea why this idiot refuses to be a Longhorn?

Under Armour All-American safety Craig Loston's coach, Ray Evans, told ESPN affiliate Web site TigerGumbo.com Thursday, "He's going to LSU, his mind is made up. I don't think it is switching. That's pretty much what he has told me."

Loston was previously committed to Clemson but dropped that pledge after the exit of former head coach Tommy Bowden.
Following his decommitment, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Oregon emerged as possible destinations along with LSU.

ESPN's Bill Conley elaborated on the news, "To no one's surprise Craig Loston's high school coach confirms Loston is headed to LSU. The rumors started weeks ago even before Tommy Bowden was released at Clemson. Loston becomes the Tigers, that's LSU not Clemson Tigers, 17th commitment in a class that is getting stronger and stronger."

"Loston is without a doubt one of the most versatile athletes in the 2009 class. He is an exceptional pass defender from the safety position. Loston possesses the valuable combination of technical skills and leaping ability. He can go vertical to high point the football and has the soft hands to haul it in to his body. As good as he is in zone coverage; he shows equal ability to blanket a receiver man-to-man."

Burnt Orange Nation Anyone in Myrtle Beach-

I'm here in the Myrtle Beach area for work over the weekend and will be watching tomorrow's game at Overtime Sports Cafe, looking for fellow 'Horns to join me.  The Virginia Tech-Florida St game which is being showed locally., I have no idea why anyone would want to watch that unless you had a baseball size growth sticking out your face (beamer).

Hook'em

Sorry if your not supposed to be posting info like this on the "fanpost", I've been reading the blogs for awhile, but never posted, so I'm new to the BON etiquette.
