Who is taller: Fontenot or Albie Pearson?

The LA Times has an article today about how Albie Pearson was the shortest player in MLB history at 5'5".

I definitely have my doubts. Fontenot is listed at 5'8" but appears to be much shorter when you look at him out on the field. Could the Cubs have an "all-time leader" on the roster as we speak? It would be cool to have seen the shortest player of all time, even if modern practice is to puff up your height and weight to intimidate the opposition.

Of course this entire discussion assumes that Eddie Gaedel doesn't count as a real MLB player, since he only batted once, walked on four balls, and was immediately replaced by a pinch-runner.

Here is an update on what we got for trading DeRo

Early returns: The widely panned Mark DeRosa trade netted the Cubs three unknown relievers from Cleveland. But thus far, all three are faring well in the Cubs' system. Right-hander Jeff Stevens has a 2.04 earned-run average at Triple-A Iowa. Left-hander John Gaub is 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA at Double-A Tennessee, with 22 strikeouts in 13 innings. And right-hander Chris Archer is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA at Class A Peoria, with 30 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Dusty Baker ruining his shortstop's arm?

Those who saw the Brewers game last night know that Dusty sent Paul Janish to the mound in the 9th inning. He made the poor guy throw 35 pitches and he was obviously laboring. Anyone think that pitching all of a sudden could injure a guy's arm, and hurt his career? I think we all know that Dusty does not care about player's careers in the long run, and will grind them into the ground. But this could be a new low even for him.
