The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

Broncos and Packers - Strange Parallels

5

"The first noticeable weakness in the Packers' offense is their lack of a power runner, a back who can break tackles and make those tough yards and make an opposing defense respect the run -- if even a little. No one watching the Packers on tape respects their running game, therefore the burden of offensive success falls squarely onto the shoulders of Aaron Rodgers. They rank 27th in rushes and completions combine, averaging slightly over 43. Which then leads to their defense, because even though the offense is not as explosive as it appeared this summer, they still rank second in the league in first-half point differential (plus 33), tied for second with Pittsburgh. Yet their defense can't seem to ever get control of the game, or increase the lead, making the one key play that can put the game away. In fact, they allow the fifth most points in the fourth quarter."

Spread the blame when examining bad O-line play

I am not a fan of Pete Prisco by any means, but this article makes a good point about offensive lines around the NFL this season. Denver's offensive line is ranked #11.

Reality Check As happy as I am about the win against TN, I sincerely hope for an improved performance from the O-line this upcoming weekend. Orton took 3 less sacks than Cutler on Sunday and #6 left his game with a concussion. Here's hoping for improved play from the big boys in Baltimore.

John Clayton vs Bill Williamson - Will Tim Tebow make it?

Add Tight End to our grocery list

"Branson suffered a significant knee injury during the Broncos’ final preseason game Thursday night at Minnesota. With starting tight-end Daniel Graham missing the past three preseason games with bruised ribs and second-year reserve Richard Quinn limping in and out of practice the past three weeks, the Broncos need tight end reinforcement."

NFL reportedly will adjust where umpire is stationed

2

It looks like the new umpire position (behind the offense) will prevent them from seeing holding by the defense. Defensive tackles must be licking their chops because of this new rule. "The latest tweaks, made after a conference call that included members of the league's competition committee, include requiring the umpire only to be standing behind the deepest member of the offense, and quarterbacks can look at officials near the sidelines to get the go-ahead to snap the ball, rather than turn around and look for a signal from the umpire."

Jason Hunter moving up

3

It looks like there is still a battle for the starting OLB spot. And Jason Hunter has just thrown his hat into the ring. As a former 4-3 DE, good for him. For all we know, he may become Elvis v 2.0 this year.

Doom to have surgery on Tuesday

We'll hear after his surgery the extent of his injury and how long he'll be out. He may be a great player, but he's also human, and I wish Elvis a successful recovery.

I like the new rules on protection of defenseless players. Whether playing offense or defense, no player can be hit in the head or neck area. Also, when a player's helmet flies off, the play is dead and the ball will be in possession of the team who maintained last possession. (I only wish they'd mandate that players begin wearing helmets that fit, as opposed to the ones they wear now, which are too loose. That only contributes to concussions that a snug-fit helmet would help prevent.) Agree with the new OT rules to not allow a team to win by a field goal unless the other team has also had an opportunity to possess the football. A key phrase that is used consistently in the video for unnecessary roughness penalties is "potential discipline." Monetary fine? Ejection? Both? They don't get into the details, which makes one wonder what they will be.

Fightin' Words: Why I Don't Fear the AFC West

19

It's the Chargers' turn to have fun with their AFC West division rivals. TC is less than 2 weeks away!

Broncos have cleaned up their act

2

By MHR standards, this article from The Gazette is ancient history. But Frank Schwab does a good job covering the Broncos and this one caught my attention. For the first time in years, Denver has a team that it can be proud of. And these "good character" guys are so much easier to root for than their predecessors. A clear indication that the culture in the locker room has taken a turn: "A large prayer circle is not unusual after games, but it’s new for a Broncos practice."

Mike Shanahan to reduce minicamp from three days to two

3

Let's compare the Redskins' new "Country Club" atmosphere to the Broncos'. In Denver, every position but the kicker is up for grabs. Yes, Orton is the favorite going into TC, but there is no guarantee that he will start the season (although it is likely.) ST units, offense, and defense are as competitive as can be, without getting into fist-fights. On a positive note, information is being shared freely among the skill players; DBs are talking to WRs about how to improve. In Washington DC, McNabb is doing well in establishing chemistry with his team-mates and his experience is having a calming effect on those around him. The defense is practicing without Haynesworth, but is upbeat about their new roles in the 3-4, while the offense boasts arguably the best RB talent in the league. In this article, the writer admits to Haynesworth being absent due to his lack of interest in playing the NT position and also admits to the wide receivers not having inspired any confidence. Yet the team is about to get next Friday off during MANDATORY mini-camp? You'd think that a team that won a mere 4 games last season would want to work as hard as they can to improve. They'd encourage everyone to participate in OTA's, break down film from last season, and go over as many scenarios as possible, in order to get a leg-up on the competition within their division. Since the players love the new offensive and defensive schemes being installed, I guess clearly, that should be enough to solve all of their problems and should still make them a clear favorite to win their division. Shanahan's resume appears to give him diplomatic immunity with the media, as I have yet to find anyone else in the country to report on it.

"...and he's going to be on the field doing some Wildcat plays and a lot of other things..." "Still a battle between Kyle Orton and of course, uh, what's going on with Tom uh, Kyle Brady..." Fast forward to about the 1:00 mark in the video, to hear John Clayton's news and notes about the Denver Broncos.

Bill Romanowski offered his opinion on the Brian Cushing saga

5

Burt Grossman was a 1989 first-round draft choice of the Chargers and played defensive end for six seasons, including five with the Chargers and one with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s a regular contributor to the National Football Post. In this article, he provides some background on Bill Romanowski that I've never read before. Not hiring him as our strength and conditioning coach was a good decision last year, to say the least.
