MLS Disciplinary Committee Suspends and Fines LA Galaxy Midfielder David Beckham; Fines Arena and Marsch NEW YORK (July 5, 2012) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his confrontational and provocative behavior during and immediately following the Galaxy’s 4-3 loss at San Jose on June 30. The Committee considered his conduct unacceptable and detrimental to the League’s public image. Beckham will serve his suspension this Sunday when the Galaxy travel to face the Chicago Fire at 3 p.m. ET (ESPN). The Committee also levied undisclosed fines for public criticism of the officials to LA Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena and Montreal Impact Coach Jesse Marsch. Fines collected will be donated to the charitable partners of MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the MLS Players Union. Source: MLS Press Release sent to Hot Time in Old Town

SmorgasBorg: Will Chicago make same mistake twice?

5

"Just scan the league. How many foreign No. 10 playmakers are out there? How many are panning out? And yet here we are with a few days remaining until Sebastián Grazzini's contract option is up with the Chicago Fire and the club still hasn't taken a definitive stance on whether they're bringing him back. Little do the Fire know that they actually hit the jackpot. They have on their hands a left-footed, creative genius, in many ways reminiscent of D.C. United legend Marco Etcheverry, capable of great passes and great goals who has proven a great fit in MLS and with the Fire since the very first day."

All-In with C.J. Brown

+

"Just days away from the club inducting him as the seventh member of the Ring of Fire, Jeff Crandall welcomed Fire legend C.J. Brown back to the All-In Podcast on Monday. Jeff and C.J. talk his reaction to the news that he’d be inducted into the Ring of Fire, what the honor means to him, how he still keeps up with the club and what his emotions are going into Wednesday’s ceremony and match."

'Fire Original' C.J. Brown returns

+

The Redeye has a great interview with C.J. Brown up on their website. Our favorite quote from the piece: Back in '98 to 2000, [former Fire player] Peter Nowak was telling me, "If a guy kicks me, then you need to kick their best guy." And I'm like "OK, I'll make it happen." I agreed with him because Peter was our playmaker. If he got hurt, then we were going to be hurting for an attacking man at times.

On where Rolfe will play: "Up top," Klopas said. "He’s a forward, that’s where he’s going to play."

5

As for where he’ll play, there’s little debate. The Fire offense has struggled out of the gate this season, leaving head coach Frank Klopas to turn back the clock a bit and slot Rolfe right where he’s needed to give the Fire a boost. "Up top," Klopas said. "He’s a forward, that’s where he’s going to play."

Chicago Red Eye Cover Story: "No. 23 on a sports jersey is special in Chicago. Michael Jordan brought the Bulls a dynasty with that number. Devin Hester ran with it to the Super Bowl, although the Bears didn't win that year. Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg also wore that number, as did White Sox fielder Jermaine Dye when he was named MVP of the 2005 World Series."
