Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he did not want to sign Rafael Soriano because he didn't feel paying closer money to the team's setup man made sense. And, in the end, Cashman said he...

In the end, the biggest hold-up in a trade that would send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey may be Anthony himself. According to several league sources, Anthony has not told anyone, not even his ...

Syracuse: A Very Different Team

1

It would be easy to see Syracuse's 72-58 thrashing of Michigan State and assume that the 2010-11 Orange are merely an extension of last year's number one seed. Indeed, that team may have been an A...

Around The Big East: Early Observations

+

Some interesting action around the Big East last night, and conference play doesn't begin for a month! Here are some things I think we learned last night:

SB Nation NY Top Five: 37-And-Older Shortstops

+

Assuming the New York Yankees and Derek Jeter work out their contract impasse, the team will employ Jeter for presumably somewhere at or north of the three-year, $45 million offer they've presented to him. For their money, they'll get Jeter's age-37 through age-39 seasons.

Terry Collins Hired: Future Is A Mystery Spot

1

We have much to learn about the Mets' hiring of Terry Collins from the primary text- no, not Moneyball- but the Simpsons episode Homer At The Bat. Witness this moment in managerial history:

+

(to the tune of "I Have Dreamed", The King and I) I have dreamed that the Knicks are lovely And I have dreamed of the champs we'll be

Red Bulls: Come For The Stars, Stay For The Youth

+

Make no mistake about it: the disproportionate amount of coverage the New York Red Bulls received in 2010 came from the signings of international superstars like striker Thierry Henry and midfielder Rafa Marquez. But the story of the 2010 season, both in terms of the team's turnaround from 2009 and the legacy it holds in future years, will likely stem from the rookies Tim Ream, Tony Tchani and Juan Agudelo.

Poem: Sandy, The Fact-Based GM

A poem/song about the Mets new general manager.

New York Is Oakland

+

Look, from a geographical standpoint, John Harper's argument that New York is not Oakland is a sound one. The two municipalities are vastly different in size, state location, time zone, and number of quality bagel eateries. But both his logic and his conclusion, from a managerial standpoint, leave much to be desired.
