I vote for (Killa) Cam('Ron) Newton.... 'Oh Boy'
What's up people?
Forgive me for bringing this up, because i'm sure this has been debated ad nauseum, but I think Cam Newton could be a great pick.
My favorite season of the first decade of this millenium was Version 2009. Good old fashioned AFC Central/North smashmouth football. With Jay Gruden openly advising that this brand of offense would be on display on Sunday's, I regained that false hope I feel each and every season. When we look back at 2009, there was a severe lack of talent at a position of importance to effectively run the smashmouth offense. That my friends would be dynamic duo of "god i would hate actually hold onto this ball so i'll go ahead and fumble it" Dan Coats and his buddy John Paul Foschi.
Many a fan went back and forth with me on how much they hated this style of offense. I believe PDoc penned, "making Palmer hand off to benson is like purchasing a ferrari and leaving it in the garage."
Well, CPalmer is no longer the QB my friends. 2011 excites me because we have all of the tools to run the Smashmouth offense. Two capable TE's in Gresham and Coffman, two slot receivers in Caldwell and Shipley, and you've got Jerome Pimpson comin out of nowhere. Also, a nasty OLine that proved they accel in this mold as opposed to the finesse offense.... the only component that could make this smashmouth offense a little better would be... oh I don't know, a mobile QB???
Before we debate the mechanics of one Cam Newton, lets debate the type of throws he'd be making. In a clock killing, punishing rush attack offense, the QB is likely throwing to more of the slant and hitch routes than the go's and post's. Probably looking at a lot of underneath, 4 - 12 yard passes, which i'm confident Cam can do.
I don't know how many of you come out on this whole deal because i've taken a loooooooooooong hiatus from bengaldom. Please feel free to counter me all you like. Here's how I really feel about this guy: He's a proven winner. He's got the hardware. Yes Palmer had the Heisman as well, but he had Pete Carroll and company's best crop of talent (USC's probation comes to mind). The one thing Cam Newton has that Palmer doesn't is guts, and ability to perform under pressure. Playing QB in the SEC is no easy feat, nevertheless winning the national Championship. I'm like Mike Singletary, "I want winners".
If it is Jay Gruden's will to pound the rock between the tackles, then we should embrace that. (i think it's obvious that i do) I can't wait to see the smashmouth offense back on the field at PBS.... givin plenty of time Carlos Dunlap, Michael Johnson and Geno Atkins to rest up to get their pass rush on.
Hope everyone's been well and hope the lockout ends soon. Peace yall
Bengals make some cuts, and somehow get better. Whodeyness
What's up my fellow Bengal fans? One week to showdown time. I am super stoked, not only for the start of the season, but for a particular badass recently added to the roster.
Let me start with the "underwhelming" addition to the roster: Dan LeFevour. With UC now under the ranks of Butch Jones, the all-time NCAA TD leader comes to town from CMU as well, only at the expense JustTurnOverSullivan. I'm sure many are still distraught with regards to our backup QB situation, but i certainly feel a lot better with a great talent and dual threat QB to groom under #9. Video evidence for ya:
NOW, a move i am super stoked about: Reggie Nelson. This guy may not have wowed at JAX, but he is one sick mofo. Interesting things I learned, and that many of yall may already know: the Bengals were torn between drafting Leon Hall and Reggie Nelson in 2007. In addition, Nelson played a year of JuCo at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas in 2003. Can you guess which current Bengal Nelson is reuniting with from CCC? That would be 2006 First Rounder Johnathan Joseph. In addition to the Gator Speed of Dunlap and now Nelson, and the nasty demeanor Nelson brings to my favorite Defensive unit (of course the ZFense) the Bengals have the ability to field an entire Nickel Secondary of First Round Picks in JJ, Leon, Roy the Hitman, Adam doesn't play Pacman anymore and now Reggie "The Eraser" Nelson. Without further ado, video evidence of badassness:

Empty backfield.... Full aerial assault
Hoooooooooooooooooooooly moooooooooooooooooly. Two days til Training camp Bengal fans! As i'm sure you're all aware, T.O. is quite possibly gonna take his first trip to Georgetown Kentucky to get right in the new 5-wide set from hell.
If you don't know my style, i'm a big highlight junkie. I got to thinking about what combination of targets for #9 could do some serious SICK damage. I shall visually reveal my fearsome-fivesome. Please vote for your ideal quintet below:
The one and only - Ochocinco:
2010 FA WR numero uno - Antonio Bryant:
Hard Knock stepchild - Chase Coffman:
OH SNAP.... we drafted another TE, too, didn't we? - Jermaine Gresham:
Love me some me.... T.O., just help us get the damn Lombardi, homey - Terrell Owens:
Getcha popcorn ready?
Oh the parody! Oh the Drama! T.O. talks swirl again. I look at it like this: would you rather have Matt Jones/Jerome Simpson or T.O. Seriously? Do either of Jones or Simpson contribute on special teams? No, they don't, thus you'd carry either of those guys as straight up receivers. So ask yourself, honestly, who's better: Simpson, Jones or Owens.
I realize this would be a one year deal. But sometimes you have to roll the dice if you want to go all the way. The Z-Fense is stacked, the Power Run game is established. So it seems, the theme for 2010 has been stock up weapons for the passrush and the pass attack. Acquiring T.O. would fit that bill.
One can make the argument that T.O. is a cancer, but the fact is, T.O. wants to win. Is that not what we all have been begging for? I can't fault T.O. for wanting to win so bad, that he's angered when his teammates don't work as hard as they can. If T.O. was to become this cancer that so many say he will, it would only be in the situation where things were falling apart. Well, if things were to fall apart, I think it's safe to say that many a Bengal fan will be pissed, too.
We've seen the plays he's made in the past, and with that, I do as I always do, post hella vids:
Will we see a happy ending to the Bengals 2010 Offseason?
Six days Bengal fans.... we're almost there:
Each and every offseason, we've spent the summer dreaming of what our First Round Draft Pick can do to better our favorite team. How many tackles would Keith Rivers rack up? How many yards would the mighty Andre the Giant Smith drive back far smaller defenders? How many pick-6's for Leon and JJ?
While we want our Front Office (or lack thereof) to be active in Free Agency, we also want them to nail down these rookie deals. In both 2008 and 2009, the excitement for the start of training camp was quickly turned to frustration as our newly drafted heroes were sitting around in a nearby hotel room, unsigned. (I realize the difference between picking in the Top 10 and outside of the Top 20, which is huge. Still, we haven't even heard rumor of a deal)
Both Andre the Giant and Keith Rivers told the media, "I want to be in camp on time." Agent greed and Mike Brown greed collide at the bargain table, and what do we get???? Holdout.
I would rather wait longer in the draft to hear the name of our First Round pick called, then wait for his ass to get to camp. First, I would like to thank Jerry Jones for knocking down a reasonable and timely First ROund contract for the 24th pick. The bar has been set, and hopefully Jermaine Gresham's deal will be done soon. As I said, six days left....GET THE DAMN DEAL DONE NOW MIKE BROWN. (OR KATIE BLACKBURN, i don't care, somebody get it done.....NOW)
Dez Bryant's deal is for five years, $11.8M ($8.5M gtd). Here's a look at last year first round contracts around pick 21:
#19_Philadelphia (fr. CLE/TB) - WR, Jeremy Maclin, Missouri - Signed (5-years, $15.6M; $9.5M guaranteed)
#20_Detroit (fr. DAL) - TE, Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State - Signed (5-years, $14.6M max; $9.3965M guaranteed)
#21_Cleveland (fr. PHI) - OC, Alex Mack, California - Signed (5-years, $15.175M max.; $9.265M guaranteed)
#22_Minnesota - WR, Percy Harvin, Florida - Signed (5-years, $14.25M max; $8.425M guaranteed)
#23_Baltimore (fr. NE) - OT, Michael Oher, Mississippi - Signed (5-years, $13.795M max; $7.82M guaranteed)
#24_Atlanta - DT, Peria Jerry, Mississippi - Signed (5-years, $13.25M max; $7.555M guaranteed)
I think Brandon Pettigrew's contract would be a good model for Gresham's? what say you?
If my memory serves, Leon and JJ missed no more than a day each. Regardless, I want Gresham there the night before, ready to hit the ground running....literally.

The Draft Class of 2010
One week until training camp, Bengal fans…. Hang in there.
In doing a little nfl.com vid watching to ease the pain of football withdrawal, I started thinking about what type of impact our rookie class will have on the 2010 season. In my efforts to separate myself from my homerish optimism, I think the Bengals first five draft selections will contribute this season. To be specific, I look at potential improvements in 3rd Down efficiency.
Offensively, Palmer now has a pair of legitimate threats in between the hashes. Jordan Shipley excels at route running, while Jermaine Gresham is a severe mismatch for most defenders which he will face. The openings for Palmer potentially double, due to limitations of brackets and double teams, by way of the sidelines or in between the hashes. Any of Ocho, Bryant, Gresham or Shipley will present an open target for the god of the golden arms. (if not, Brian Leonard will just keep jumping over everyone (1:55), which is also fine by me)
Looking at the Defense - my favorite squadron in the entire universe – a pair of QB-killas joins the D-Line rotation with the selections of Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins. Mike Zimmer has put a major emphasis on interior pass rush (“let’s try to get some f**** rush on this guy” 1:33) In 2009, we mostly saw Michael Johnson on 3rd Down as well. In addition to the pass rushers, Brandon Ghee – the fastest CB in the draft – provides help with deep-zone coverage, and a potential extra blitzer used much like Morgan Trent was last season.
As for the rest of the draft picks, I mostly see them getting work on special teams. But who knows, it seems like there’s a surprise star from the late round or CFA every season… however, the team has never been this deep before.
Let’s debate, HuDey!

What's up my fellow Bengal Fans???
Some of you might be Reds fans as well. If so, then you're probably in the same boat as me, very entertained this summer, which is helping suppress the pain that is.... the NFL offseason.
If you're also like me the Bengal fan, then you probably go back to watch the highlights from the 2009 games to relive the magic, and are likely only interested in searching for the Wins and Not the losses.
Well, here I am so damn bored, I actually made myself look around in the likes of Week 17, among other ugly weeks of last season....turns out I just found one of the greatest vids yet. New Bengal WR
was there a trade that i didn't know about??????
Warning all QBs: 93 now listed as a LB
So looking around bengals.com, i happened to notice the badassness that is Michael Johnson is no longer listed a DE, but rather a LB.
I think we've all heard the rumors about MJ working with the LB corps....(here, see for yourself)....
This got me thinking about the sick possibilities we'll witness this season. I envision myself sitting in Paul Brown Stadium, slightly inebriated, screaming at the top of my lungs on 3rd and long. Mike Zimmer signals for the 3-4 alignment, otherwise known as the quarterback annhilation package. Carlos Dunlap is executing his spin move into the pocket, and the QB tries to step up to avoid him. Frostee Rucker breaks down the OG with a stealth bull-rush, and the new and nastiest pass rushing LB, Mr. MJ flies in on a fire-zone blitz and absolutely smashes the QB's face in......
Whaddayallthink? Will MJ stay with Coach Fitz through Training Camp and become Weapon X for the Z-Fense????
Early Roster debates
What’s up Bengals Fans? It’s June, and essentially getting deeper into the non-football days of summer. Hang in there yall, there’s only 2 months left!
Since most of the offseason activity is behind us, I felt the need to do something to spark up some conversation about roster fodder and throw out some needless, unwarranted utterly ridiculous speculation. Feel free to agree or agree to disagree….anything please?!?!?!!
As many of you are probably aware, the Bengals roster currently consists of 89 players….nine over the Training Camp Limit. Let’s take a look at the nine guys on the way out. Also, let’s see if that number could be ten, and if we could a make a case for signing an additional Free Agent.
While I hate to write-off the bubble guys, I think many of you can agree with me on these.
First, it is very likely that Jason Shirley the mystery lineman is headed for IR. Without getting deep into analysis,(and practically picking names out of a hat) here are my additional nine bubble guys likely staring down the axe:
LS Mike Windt, P Jake Richardson, OL Isaac Sowells, RB Cordera Eason, RB Walter Mendenhall, OL Gabriel Manns, S Bryan Evans, WR Chris Davis, DT Orien Harris
So that would bring the roster to 79 players. And my surprise addition would be…..(wait for it):
Go ahead…ask me…..WHY THE !@#^%$(#$ WOULD WE SIGN THAT WASHUP?????
I’m a big Defense Fan, so this is me making a case for the 32-years-young Adalius Thomas, AT hereon. If you look at his stat line, you’ll notice AT racked up 8, 9 and 11 sacks his last three years with the Ravens. His versatility was unquestioned as a dynamic pass rusher and his frequent exhibition of short zone coverage skills in Rex Ryan’s complex defense.
Like many that have had the opportunity, AT reached out and stacked cheddar in Free Agency. Also like many, the relationship didn’t quite work out, which culminated in nothing more than 14.5 sacks and an early showing of the door after only three years. Either the Belichikian model was not one for AT, or he was on the decline.
Many of us are stuck in baseball mode right now, where stats rule, and the age old cliché rings loudly…”you are the back of your baseball card”. If we can apply that “baseball card” line of thinking to Adalius Thomas, then I see a guy who excelled at getting after the QB (and raked in 4 picks along the way) during his tenure with a certain LB coach we’ve all come to love around here. Thus the reason I think AT could work here in Cincy lies no further than his former position coach, Jeff FitzGerald. AT excelled under Coach Fitz’s tutelage. The Adam Jones signing reaffirms Mike Zimmer’s belief in the scrap iron defense and just might approve of this opportunity. If we are to be treated to some 3-4 defensive looks in 2010, an additional QB killa that can cover would be a definite bonus. AT’s apparent ability to play all over the field make him a very compelling Free Agent…. (In my humble opinion)
So, Thomas decided to do it all, earning the nicknames "Slash" and "The Coordinator," for his ability to play multiple positions in Baltimore's defense. It's almost easier to name a position Thomas, who made his first Pro Bowl on special teams in 2003, hasn't played. He's lined up as a defensive end, a 3-4 nose tackle, a 4-3 defensive tackle, a 3-4 outside linebacker, a 3-4 inside linebacker, a 4-3 outside linebacker, a safety, and even at cornerback, all thanks to his startling athleticism.
Of course, if it doesn’t work out, we have five preseason games the team must survive, and he wouldn’t make the final cut. End of story, thanks but no thanks.
For the record, I'm really hoping we get AT here for a tryout…..
Let the drama begin
CarsonPalmer I missed what my quarterback said about me not being at (OTA'S) they aren't even mandatory #hemissesochocinco #cute
OGOchoCinco (Chad Ochocinco),
I could care less about this. But it's safe to presume the media is getting off on this "feud" big time, right about now, eh?
Coach Fitz and the 34Defense
What’s up Bengal fans? Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend.
June 1, 2010 typically lacks anything of substance in terms of NFL news, so lets debate one of my favorite aspects of football…..DEFENSE! Specifically, the QB killas!
We’re starting to hear rumblings of 3-4 Defensive looks to create additional QB pressure against a tough 2010 schedule. With Wildcat Miami, and WildCat copycat Cleveland, in addition to the 4- and 5-wide sets incorporated by Pittsburgh, Indy, Atlanta, 'Nawlins, New England and San Diego, the Bengals will have their hands full with exceptional passing offenses this season. The improvement of the Pass Rush is vital in 2010.
The most recent noteworthy news emerging from OTA’s is that of one Michael Johnson’s work with the Linebackers. It was this news that inspired me to write this fan post.
The wild LB play in the AFCN is one of the bigger reasons I think our division is so awesome. While many frequenters of this site despise the Ravens and Steelers, you should at least be objective in your views about the LB play of our rivals. It’s hard not to admire the suffocating pass rush techniques in a PIT v BAL matchup. Even if you don’t care for the terrorizing LB play of our divisional counterparts, one man does, and that’s Marvin Lewis. In Marvin’s continued effort to resemble and compete with the nasty defenses of his former teams, our beloved Bengals HC reached out to one Jeff FitzGerald to mentor the ravished LB unit of 2007. One of the first great quotes from Coach Fitz emerged before the Patriots v Giants SB, when he said this of Tom Brady, “I think you can get to him off the edge.” (My second favorite was when he referred to Rey as "a warrior"....beautiful)
Fast-forward to 2010, a year that we could finally see the same Pass Rush formations of our AFCN rivals, and I believe that not Zimmer, but rather Coach Fitz could be a force in Pass Rush schemes. In 2004 – 2006, Fitz coached a unit with the wild Rex Ryan, which racked up 39, 42, and 60 Sacks respectively. Coach Fitz has worked with many a great LB, and has finally accumulated a group of LB's and Pass Rushers with which to seek and destroy. It's been wonderful to hear of Keith Rivers (and soon the StingRey)participating in MMA workouts to "become more violent" and learn new techniques to disengage blockers and leg-takedowns. TOMAHAWK chops from everyone on D gets me giddy. Though they're not hybrids, let’s take a look at three potential non-LB's - QB killas - at Coach Fitz’s disposal in 2010:
Robert Geathers: With no salary cap in 2010, there has been some debate as to whether the Bengals will keep both Geathers and Odom. Said John Thornton, "(New Bengals) drafted in the top 4 rounds are pretty much locks to make the team", which raises the question: Which veterans won’t be in Foxborough Week 1? If in fact we’re looking at versatility on Defense, then double time at LB and DE could give the non-Special Teamers a bit of an edge. I recall Geathers playing LB for the devastated 2007 unit, which leads me to believe his ability to drop in coverage could give him a slight edge over the Odom’s Achilles, with respect to which big-salaried DE could be cut.
Michael Johnson: At Georgia Tech, and in his rookie season in stripes, MJ flashed a ton of potential rushing the passer, dropping into short zone coverage, and batting down passes at the Line of Scrimmage. MJ has already been sent to LB school this offseason, even drawing a personal tutor in the form of a rehabbing Rashad Jeanty. I look for MJ to line up all over the place in 2010. Could be our lead Sack man! (Can't wait to see this guy screaming off the edge!)
Carlos Dunlap: Many will argue that a rookie pass rusher can be written off until his sophomore season. I look no further than MJ who turned in some fine games as a frosh. If used appropriately, and in limited fashion, rookie rushers can contribute. (Mike Zimmer has put Interior Pass Rush at the top of the list in the past year and a half - acquiring Tank, Geno Atkins, and sliding Fanene and Odom inside. If we're gonna talk 34Defense, we have to consider guys blitzing from everywhere.) While Los seems like a pure D-Lineman, where he shines as both an interior and edge rushing Freak, we can’t forget the Swamp from which he was plucked. Gator speed pumps through Dunlap’s veins. To put the speed into perspective, Jermaine Gresham ran 4.69 in the 40 yard dash, and Los Dunlap posted a 4.71. I like a guy that's 6'6" 280 that can straight line run with a TE. Further, Dunlap apparently spent time as a MIKE backer, which leads me to believe there is potential for Los to roam the middle next to the StingRey, if for no other reason than to DESTROY QB's.
Coach Fitz, Jay Hayes and Mike Zimmer have a whale of a job on their plates in 2010. I’m very much looking forward to the unveiling of the new tactics to get after QB’s in 2010.
Thanks for reading, yall. (btw, even if you're not interested in Season Tickets, this vid is awesome)

Evolution of the Bengals Offense
What’s up my fellow Bengal fans?
My orange kool-aid cup runneth over this offseason like never before. There are numerous aspects of this Bengals squad to be giddy for. Let’s take a look at the evolution of the Offense, shall we?
DEFENSE
We've been spending a lot of time speculating and debating the greatness that will be the Bengals 2010 Offense. Please don't forget the badassness of the returning Defense, that kept the Bengals in each and every game last season.
I know there's a lot of concern among Bengal fans regarding the depth of Safety. We must remember, the man the myth the legend Mike Zimmer's specialty is DB's. Not only will Zimmer's scheme keep the Defense at an advantage in every game, but a pair of Pro Bowl (should be) CB's and well coached nickel corners should ease the worry regarding Safety. Don't overlook the teams effort to acquire a Safety via Free Agency. So it seems, the team has a plan to shore up that position if necessary. VIa the draft, the team has added some fresh talent on each level, so I'm very excited at the prospect of the 2010 Bengals Defense.
Besides....when you have a suffocating pass rush, and hammers at LB... what more do you need?
Without further ado.....highlights of my favorite aspect of the game:
Uniform # Switch
Briscoe and Shipley will switch numbers. Briscoe now #88 and Shipley now #11
Jersey numbers are out
What's up Bengal fans? Just saw that the new #'s have been assigned.
Antonio Bryant is #81
Geno Atkins is #97
Dezmon Briscoe is #11
Carlos Dunlap is #96
Brandon Ghee is #21
Jermaine Gresham is #84
Otis Hudson is #60
Roddrick Muckelroy is #56
Mike Nugent #2
Jordan Shipley is #88
Reggie Stephens is #61
Who did the numbers belong to before?
Here's a link for the jersey # archive.
Which Jersey are you planning to get????
The Offense gains ground on the defense
What's up Bengal fans? I wanted to weigh in on how excited I am about this draft. The team did what it said it would do, which was build depth and increase the competition in each position group. Well I'd say they did just that and then some. I don't plan on rambling much here, just wanted to put a compilation of highlights together as I am FREAKIN PUMPED about the ridiculous amounts of Offensive combinations this team can field next year.
Last year, the Bengals put together a punishing rush attack, and that foundation seems to be here to stay. Not only does Cedric Benson simply dole out the pain, but he's well complimented by Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard. The interesting thing is the fact that this team set out to improve its aerial attack, and I do believe they did just that. In my mind, Chase Coffman will contribute this season. Antonio Bryant gives us a smashmouth receiver which we definitely needed for this AFCN warfare. Ochocinco is still totally effing badass. Andre Caldwell flashed a ton of potential last season, and Romeo Simpson...like Coach Sheppard said, "the time is now". Add the fact that we drafted Jermaine Gresham, Jordan Shipley and Dezmon Briscoe, and suddenly the offensive possibilities seem....well, offensive/ sick/ disgusting/ endless/ and totally badass.
Power Run Game - Check
Three TE smashmouth package - Check
5 Wide Set - Check
Any offensive combination.....um, yeah - check
So last year - and i'm not complaining -we saw a whole lot of this:
Now we add, this:
ANd this:
OH...and this guy:
Don't forget this guy:
2 TE SET:
We must never forget:
WE HAVE FIREPOWER
More Trojans to the Rescue?
I don't buy the garbage that Dez Bryant is going to fall all the way to Slot #21. I think some team will grab him in the Top 15. A failed drug test didn't keep the Vikings from drafting Percy Harvin last year, and there certainly won't be a team afraid of this "agent contact" issue (the Bengals weren't - Andre Smith).
And then there's this:
04/16/2010 - As the 2010 NFL draft inches closer, the Falcons could be preparing to pull off a major shocker. While most of the buildup to the draft has centered on improving the defense, it might be wise to think out of that defensive box. The Falcons have thoroughly scouted the linebacker and center positions. A lot of mock drafters have the Falcons taking either Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, Florida center Maurkice Pouncey or Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham. But a shocker pick could be Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham, who was in Flowery Branch on April 8 for a private workout and a meet and greet with the offensive coaches. He did not play last season after having knee surgery, but flashed enough over his career to be compared to Kellen Winslow Sr. by Gil Brandt, the legendary former personnel man of the Dallas Cowboys who's an analyst for NFL.com and Sirius radio. Most of the mock drafts have Gresham going to the Cincinnati Bengals, who have the 21st pick in the draft, two slots behind the Falcons. Last season, the Falcons were frothing over Oklahoma State's tight end Brandon Pettigrew before they made the trade for Tony Gonzalez, who has two years remaining on his contract. If greatness is projected for Gresham, it would make sense for the Falcons to snap him up and let him learn under Gonzalez for a year or two. The draft is deep in defensive talent, and the team could address those concerns later. - D. Orlando Ledbetter, Atlanta Journal Constitution
SO much for Gresham, right? Not a problem, a few weeks back our boy firstPick put together a TE Prospect Watch which seemed to drum up more interest in Anthony McCoy.
And then there's this:
Can you say............. REDEEMER? Plus, he looks a helluvalot better than the current #86, don't you think?
Many a Bengal fan believe a receiver should be drafted this year....the earlier the better. While I won't disagree with Mardy Gilyard or Dez Bryant, another USC Trojan with big game experience at wideout is Damian Williams. He's flashy at both Receiver and Punt Returner.
Joe Reedy, Mr. Speculation, believes that the Bengals will look at the Safety position with their #21 Overall Pick, and I'll have to agree here. Taylor Mays only smashes a lot of faces in..... which is perfectly okay with me.
I'm all for USC players, hell, the more the merrier. That system Pete Carroll put together was a draft pick factory for a while there. For their sake I hope Lane Kiffin keeps things going strong.... we'd like to draft more of their players in the future, of course.
They say you should stick to your initial instinct (well, at least i think i so, yet i still find myself erasing the hell out of scantron forms).
So I'm going back to my original wishlist:
Taylor Mays, Damian Williams and Anthony McCoy. "Upon further review" (Czeben), The Bengals we're only a couple more USC players away from being a contender last year. Here they are....

While I typically despise mutli-round Mock drafts, it is nice to get a feel for what players should go at or near the Bengals Friday picks.
Pat Kirwan from NFL.com puts together an interesting 3-round Mock Draft that has the Bengals acquiring:
@#21= Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma
@#54= Tyson Alualu DL California
@#84= Myron Lewis DB Vanderbilt
@#96= Eric Decker WR Minnesota
While it's possible that none of these happen, I'd say the most intriguing possibility would be Alualu given my sick obsession with Front 7 dominance.
I got to thinking about the possibility of adding the Honolulu Alualu to the Samoan Trio. It seems Alualu is probably better suited as a 3-4 DE, but still fits the mold of the Bengals 4-3 versatile DL such as Fanene and Rucker.
Alualu played all 4 spots in Cal's 4-3, recording 62 Tackles and 7.5 Sacks in 2009 - NFL.com Alualu Video click HERE.
What do you think Bengals fans????
A tribute to Antonio Bryant
What's up Bengal fans. I'm sitting here catching up on some highlight reels of potential suitors for the #21 pick, and started checking out some AB highlights. I think most are aware he was a fantasy stud with TB a couple years ago.
Much debate cooked up a few weeks ago when the Bengals hosted both AB and TO, and in the end I think the Bengals made an excellent selection. Not only do we get a younger player for a longer time, but we get a physical receiver of the AFCN mentality. Without further ado....highlight reels that tell the rest of the story:
7 days, how bout a countdown....
What's up yall? lets start a 7-day 7-prospect countdown to familiarize ourselves with the soon to be 2010 Cincinnati Bengals 1st Round pick:
Realistically, there are likely 10 solid possibilities in my mind, but lets narrow it down to seven for this debate:

Dez Bryant... If he's here at 21, not sure i could pass him up
Two:
Jason Pierre Paul - you can never have enough pass rushers
Three:
Earl Thomas - what a magnificent trio of First Round DB's we'd have if The Earl was available:
Four:
Brandon Graham - We already have a #55, but think of this guy added to the Linebacking corps
via media.scout.com
Five:
Taylor Mays - all around Face Smasher, and the Trojan reunion continues....StingRey and StingMays
Six:
Sean Weatherspoon - MIKE backer of the future joins the Trojan tandem, eh?? eh???
via missouricolumns.files.wordpress.com
Seven:
AND......Dan Williams, cuz Mike Zimmer's efforts to improve the interior pass rush wouldn't let this guy slip by
TOO much Defense???? sure! it's a defensively rich draft class. Make a good thing better. NO Iupati or Gresham cuz i think we're stacked at Guard, and you can't call Chase Coffman a bust right out of his rookie year...he'll come around.
Mock Draft: Donovan McNabb & Aaron Harang & Marc Bulger edition
WIth Aaron Harang giving us a lovely display on the mound today.... my hunger for football rumbles louder, and apparently will not be held over with baseball. Thanks Aaron!
With Donovan McNabb heading to Washington, Marc Bulger released, theLions wheeling and dealing, and other big trades possible (Albert Haynesworth), Mock Draft Artists shall begin their quest for reaching Mock Draft 10.0 come draft day....
Just as Bulger was released, I had to adjust this post, so things are happening on the fly. One NFL.com Mock artist came up with Mock 5.0, Pat Kirwan that is, and has the Bengals taking Jason Pierre-Paul.

I was thinking about this possibility a couple days ago, and quite honestly would be thrilled if we could get him. Robert Geathers and Antwan Odom would seem to have a strangle hold on the starting DE spots....or do they?
Anybody coming back from a ruptured Achilles has to be a concern, and Robert Geathers has pretty much declined since 2006. Could now be the time to groom a new edge rushing duo in Michael Johnson and Jason Pierre-Paul?
We have our runstopping DE's for the time being as far as i'm concerned. Fanene and Rucker have been solid, yet both have extensive injury history.
The reality is, we have 4 question marks at DE. In order to run a successful 4-3 Defense, that Front 4 must be disruptive. Lest we not forget Tank's plantar fasciaitis (butchered, epic fail), Peko's injured ankle, and Pat Sims broken forearm - which means every DLineman except Michael Johnson was hurt at some point last season. So I really don't rule out any D-Linemen for our first round pick.
How would the CJ-hood feel about Pierre-Paul??? Zimmer keeps emphasizing the need to upgrade the interior pass-rush, how bout Tennessee's big Dan Williams???
The roaring twenties
Upon further review, I got to thinking about drafting in the 20's, and the huge advantages of being in that area come Draft Day.
For one, the Bengals have a good core of players, and are in a good position to draft whom they think is the Best Player available at each of their nine draft positions.
Of most interest to me this year is the potential to upgrade an array of position groups. While the web is watered down with Mock Drafts - some Mocks covering 7 rounds which is about as asinine as Joe Lunardi's Mock Bracket, anyhow - it's conceivable that any of the following positions are in play:
LB; TE; WR; DT; DE; C; OG; OT; RB; SS; FS........(long snapper?)
Lately, I've been thinking about the potential of a trade. What if the Bengals were approached about their #21 slot? I'm not sure they need to stock up picks, but what if an offer is to sweet to pass up?
I found a nice website with Draft Day Trade History and thought yall might be interested. Trade details are included below each draft.
It seems last year was one of the more crazy 1st Round trade-fests ever. If you look back at the past few drafts, its around the 20's that you start to see teams get nervous and start begging to move up.
What if another team is desperate for an O-Lineman, like the Ravens were for Michael Oher. How bout the Jets trading back into the 1st round a couple years back to get Dustin Keller. Or the Browns "reaching" for Brady Quinn, lol?
I think we all know that Mikey Brown loves his draft picks, and if there's a great player available that you want then you should draft him. In fact, last year reports surfaced that a number of teams approached the Bengals to trade into the #38 slot to get Maualuga, which they obviously turned down.....cuz it is the StingRey. But there's always that chance that a team will fear the next drafter eyes "their guy" and makes the Bengals "an offer they can't refuse".
Any thoughts on this topic CJ Nation? Thanks yall
We should talk about JG
I'm on record saying drafting Jermaine Gresham could be a big mistake. BUT, the possibility of the newest Bengal suiting up at TE could in fact be Mr. Gresham.
How does the CJ nation feel about him? We know he's a pass catcher with limited blocking skills - not exactly Blandkowski's cup o tea. For a moment, we should at least ponder the dimension he would add to our offense. In the AFCN, big time TE's rule in the likes of Heath Miller, Todd Heap, and now Ben Watson. Dan Coats doesn't exactly stack up to those guys, but Gresham definitely would in terms of a threat down the seam.
My biggest worry would be investing a 1st Round pick in a guy coming off of injury. But if Gresham can provide the offense with a legitimate threat over the middle, the gamble would be a bigtime payoff.
Once a player suits up in the orange and black, they become one of my 53 heros. So if Gresham's the pick, hopefully he'll provide us with more of this:
Question from Cincinnati....
What's up USC????
Die hard Cincinnati Bengal fan here with a question for the great citizens of Troy:
Did Taylor Mays have a sick nick-name like Sting Rey???
I - along with many other Bengal fans - am hoping Mays is still available at spot #21 in the draft. It's no secret that Cincy loves some USC... (Carson Palmer, Frostee Rucker, Keith Rivers, Rey Maualuga).
Now we have a chance to add a big piece to the defensive puzzle by adding a bone crusher to our secondary.
(The Bengals also are interested in Anthony McCoy and Damian Williams to give Palmer some extra weapons.)
Anyhow, hopefully we'll be fortunate enough to get the opportunity to Draft Mays.
Good luck next season USC, keep producing the game changers for us out there.....
How awesome would it be?
So many Bengal fans seem to be all set on using the #21 Pick on a TE (cough, injured Gresham).
I on the other hand see the potential re-creation of the 2006 USC Defense...well, mostly. While the Pete Carroll era has come to an end, one more student of the Carroll way looms large come draft day. Whether it's Mike Brown or Mike Zimmer, somebody in the PBS Warroom loves some freakin USC.
In early 2007, the USC Trojans were hammering the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl. (To think, each class was lining up a player for what could potentially be the greatest Bengals Defensive Unit ever.) Those representatives were Senior Frostee Rucker, Junior Keith Rivers, Sophomore Rey Maualuga, and Freshman Taylor Mays.
Fast forward to the 2010 NFL Draft, and that possibility is looking more and more realistic which each anxiety laden second we wait to hear those precious words....."With 21st Pick, in the 2010 NFL Draft, The Cincinnati Bengals select....."
And it really makes sense. While we have what appears to be a deep group at Safety, the reality is, 4 out of 5 will be in a contract year in 2010. Two are 30+ and injury prone. The second half of the Bengals 2009 season saw a streak of holding opposing rushers under a hundy come to a screeching halt, and more big plays per game as well. In the past Five years, we've seen the Bengals stock up at DT with Pat Sims, Peko and Tank; DE with Odom, Fanene, Rucker, Geathers and MJ; LB with Rivers, Maualuga, and Brandon Johnson; plus a suffocating CB tandem in JJ and Leon....but what about Safety? The reality is, they've used band-aids such as Dexter Jackson and Roy Williams to get by, while seeing experiments with Marvin White and Ethan Kilmer go by the wayside. What do we do if Roy goes down in Week 3 yet again?
On April 22nd, the Z-Fense could become the almighty, stacked at all levels with the addition of that once Freshman of the quartet.....Taylor Mays.
The thought of reuniting the bone crushing combo of Mays and Maualuga has my orange blood starting boil....
30 days to the draft...Who's it gonna be?
For the first time in a while, I've felt really good about the ability to take the best player available in the draft as opposed to drafting for need.
At slot #21, there are several options with respect to both pass catchers and pass rushers. I'm really looking forward to the Draft in 2010, and really have no idea what position group will be upgraded first. Some Mocks around the web have suggested:
Taylor Mays, Jason Pierre-Paul, Sean Weatherspoon, Brian Price, Arrellious Benn, Brandon Graham, Sergio Kindle, Jermaine Gresham, Dez Bryant, Golden Tate, Mike Iupati, Maurkice Pouncey, and Rolando McClain.
It's nice to not be in the Top10 for once, and to not have a severe position of need heading into the draft (while some will argue Tight End, we do have Coffman and Coats and will probably get Foschi back, plus I'd like to see the Bengals get Anthony McCoy in the 2nd Round)
With the drama and anxiety of the draft looming large, and now within a month of its Prime Time debut, Who Dey gonna be a new Bengal on Thursday April 22nd????
I'd like to see McClain or Price, upgrade the Front 7 and add a little more fire power for a suffocating QB attack on DEFENSE!
WhoDey yall....out
Free Agency... getcha popcorn ready
via thedirtypop.files.wordpress.com
So TO could be on his way to town. What does everyone think?
I'm for it. I believe the Bengals were supposed to pay Coles $7M this year, plus Slim ONE5 is no longer with us may he rest in peace. How can you not like the prospect of TO for $2M less than the rockhanded whiny Coles?
It's no secret that Mikey Boy loves Wideouts. With the team essentially two receivers short of a corps, and a lack of First Round Talent in the draft, I suspect the Bengals will sign a Free Agent Receiver. As most suggest, it may be a week or so before we see anything official.
I think Matt Jones is more of a redemption project than a sure #2 or #3 guy.
Shall we welcome the Ocho-Uno?
