As i'm sure most of you are aware of the loss of Chris Henry, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank your great fanbase for showing so much love and support on our Bengal blog. I've noticed a ton of Charger fan support comments peppered around CincyJungle.

We really appreciate the San Diego fans for setting the big event aside and showing so much support.

Thank you so much for all the respect and kind words Bolts fans.

Bernard Scott and Jerome Simpson, spicin' things up

I'm glad to see Simpson get a chance, I have to admit I'm surprised the Bengals have done something proactive for the offense (they must read CincyJungle!)

I'm not in the business of predictions, nor do I want to be, but i think Bernard Scott will help balance out the run offense in a hurry. Bernard has been a majorly missed component in the past couple weeks. His change of pace, scatback style was really starting to take off.

In the past two weeks, activating Larry Johnson was virtually useless. While both LJ and The Predator are a couple of hammers, the offensive look is relatively similar with either of those guys in the backfield. I'm glad Bernard Scott is back practicing, and hope he gets back into the game rotation sooner than later.

As for Jerome Simpson, hope he can shed this bust label that some of you out there think he's reppin.

I'm happy Simpson's getting his chance, cuz he does have a ton of potential, or as he put it, "I’m a baller!"

Hang strong Hu-Dey homeys, i think our boyz have something up their sleeves for this weekend, we'll find out.

Shaun Smith: What's the beef?

What's up Hu-Dey homeys?

Just finished some school projects, so I'm feelin fresh. (Not that any of yall care)

So i'm ready to stir the pot.....What's with all the Shaun Smith hate?

First, none of you can tell me your surprised. This is Mike Brown's Bengals. This is not the first, and definitely not the last, characted flawed individual that will suit up in stripes.

But more importantly, did he leave here on bad terms? Shaun was designated as a RFA coming out of the 2006 season, and the Bengals declined to match the Cleveland Browns contract offer. None of the statements about the "halftime" were released until he was in Cleveland.

(Before I continue, let me be clear: I generally do not condone the off-field behavior of football players. BUT, I'm really not looking for a role model to join our football team, just...a football player.)

Moving on, I would like to thank Shaun, for fighting or yelling at Brady Quinn, allegedly. I really can't stand the Browns, so anyone that's able to re-connect with their inner-Bengal, and find a way the hell outta Cleveland is alright with me. Maybe Steinbach will come around one day.

As for the "banned-substance", haven't we heard that story before? Daryl Blackstock most recently comes to mind. I didn't hear anyone booing him when he returned to the field last season. These guys are given some much supplements and weight control dietary supplements, this mistake happens more often than we know. He wasn't using HGH, or calling Manny being Manny to hook up some pregnancy drugs, was he?

For my money, this move makes sense. A lunch pail guy to keep Big Pat and The Tank fresh. Who cares if he talks a lot of smack....so does Chad Javon Esteban, right? i noticed the Tank jawing with the Detroit O-lineman last Sunday.

Chase Coffman was never going to see the field in 2009, and was therefore a waste of a roster spot. Also, with Domata Peko out until the playoffs, we need depth at DT. Jason Shirley would seem like a viable option, but he needs further development. Jason Shirley is quite simply a "project", not a depth solution. (see Stacy Andrews).

I'm sure I'm missing something here, and I'm interested in why fans think the Bengals shouldn't add Shaun Smith to an ailing position.

It seems each and every Bengal signing stirs the emotions around these parts....Let's focus on the important issues here: Can he stop the run? Can he rush the passer? Can he at least relieve The Tank and Big Pat of Special teams duties?

Don't "Rush" to judgment...

Feel free to disagree with me, but I just want to put this out there. Keep in mind, even I’m not sure the Bengals deserve this much credit, but they’ve proven a lot of people wrong within the past year so hear me out. Jump with me…

In the past two weeks, we’ve seen a lot of running and well….a whole lot more running. I for one am absolutely thrilled to have a team that can roll out a “punch you in the mouth”, “bloody nose”, “smashmouth”, “AFC North trench warfare” kinda O-Line, and D-Line for that matter. Most of the comments I’ve read, plus unwarranted “booing” at the stadium (while winning???), don’t lead me to believe you enjoy this formula, despite the fact that it has brought this division three Championships in the past decade. It has been embarrassing to watch the Bengals inability to stop-the-run in the 4th-quarter year after year. To return the favor in 2009 has been glorious. With all that said, it’s not the point of my post.

The NFL is both a copy-cat league and a league of deception. Clearly, we’ve witnessed the Bengals Version 2009 copy-cat the Steelers and Ravens formulas of success. Marvin Lewis did his time with both of those coaching staffs and has finally compiled his ideal roster here in the Nasty Nati. Now I’m going to throw something wild at you:

Could the Bengals possibly be deceiving its abused fanbase and remaining opponents with its “boring” ground attack? Here’s the evidence:

Exhibit A:

With three straight weeks of the NFL’s lower-tiered Rush Defenses of this 2009 season, I believe Marvin Lewis saw an opportunity. Not only could the Bengals rest their battle-tested starting RB, but begin to groom the likes of Turn-Hard Bernard Scott, Brian Nike-Air Leonard, Andre the Giant Smith and recent acquisition Scary Larry Johnson.

The 2009 Bengal Offense all starts with the Power Run Game. If they can run, the Play-Action Pass will be effective. If you can’t run, face it, you ain’t foolin’ anybody. Palmer is deadly with a power run game. With seemingly endless combinations of O-Lineman, and a stable of tailbacks, the time is now for “toying” around with all the new “toys”.

Exhibit B:

So much of an NFL player’s week is consumed by film-review that it makes the job that much more enviable to me. You can hit the sled, run 40’s, and run drills all you want, but these football players spend a ridiculous amount of time in the film room.

With virtually a month of 2-to-1:Run-to-Pass Ratio, the Bengals are limiting Pass plays for opposing defenses to review. The Vikings and Chargers could seemingly review the Larry-Bernard Duo, yet Benson comes back on a tear and LJ and Scott don’t even get a snap. Could they possibly be withholding pass plays to keep opponents off balance? Could they be taking advantage of weak rush defenses? Could they possibly be doing what seemingly every team does in the preseason (work out of base packages and not put anything on film for your Week 1 game)????

Alright, let’s face it, no Bengal team in recent memory deserves credit of Exhibit B. However, with respect to Exhibit A, most Bengal teams in recent memory have spent November and December working on “next year”, our favorite battle-cry. Again, I’m not sure they deserve this much credit. I do know the following:

--If you can run it down their throats, Play-Action’s a bitch.

--Carson Palmer is sick rolling out of Play-Action.

--It’s not often the Bengals have the roster/ability to run this well to set up Play-Action.

--You have to be able to Run the ball in December/January.

--We swept our division.

--We’re 8-3.

--You’re tired of reading this fanpost.

--We’re 8-3.

--We. Are. Eight. And. Three.

What's up Trojan Fans:

Cincinnati Bengal fan here with a question for you USC diehards. We've been very very happy with the arrival of Mr. StingRey - not to mention a few other USC alums - here in da Nati.

With some impact USC stars, our Bengals have become a respectable football team. Since 2003, we've drafted Carson Palmer, Frostee Rucker, Keith Rivers and of course the one and only Rey Maualuga. It's no secret that these former Trojans have added some much needed swagger and attitude from your great program out there in Cali...

The reason for my post is a simple poll question. I definitely appreciate your comments as well.

Mo knocked off Roy the Hitman in the Oklahoma Drill....will he knock him off the roster, too?

I'm starting to get the feeling that our Roy Williams experiment has been exhausted, and that his roster spot presents an opening for Mo Purify.

(Geoff Hobson has certainly hinted at the possibility of it this week. As has Ludwig.)

How much has Roy given us? Through the 6-2 start, I believe he's only played in a mere 3 games. Is it time to pull the plug on the former ProBowler? That's debatable for now. I believe a roster move would need to be made today by 4pm.

Should we keep Roy around? Or should he be waived to make room for Mo? OR Does someone else get waived for Mo P? OR does Mo not get moved up, and i wasted everyone's time that bothered to click on this Fanpost????

Preparing for the next stretch....

In an effort to come to terms with the fact that there is no game to get ready for this weekend, I’m trying not to panic by resorting to offseason-like blogging measures.

Thus far, this season has been awesome, and the greatest part is that team is just starting to get some serious chemistry. The sky’s the limit. So what can the Bengals do to continue to improve? Well, apparently they’re doing their best to keep the legs fresh and the cupboard full.

On Monday, the Bengals hosted several players for tryouts. Maybe they’re doing their due diligence in an effort to prepare for the unknown. OR, maybe they are in fact planning to make a move. Pressley vactated a spot on the Practice Squad, but the most glaringly obvious pickup would be a Tight-End. Dan Coats is a wonderful blocker in pass protection, but he simply can’t catch. If he does manage to pull one down, no sooner than you can say "First Down", the ball’s on the carpet. (Lucky 3rd and 34 conversion notwithstanding)

n looking over the list of the players that visited for tryouts, I for one think Tony Curtis could be rocking orange come next week. We all know that the Bengals were willing to give up future draft pick/s to acquire Martellus Bennett. Therefore, it's safe to assume that they're willing to part ways with somebody, right? Also, some if not most of us are patient enough to understand Chase Coffman needs more time developing as a blocker. If Coats is more of a liability to this offense in the passing game than asset in protection/blocking, why keep him? Plus, Curtis spent the first half of the season in Baltimore, which could provide useful playbook information to our defense. (See Willie Anderson last year).

Big Day for Benson???

The Chicago Bears have done a nice job on defense despite the loss of Brian Urlacher, an early uppercut in this 16-week bout that is the NFL. Last week, another starting LB was lost for the season in Tinoisamoa, another blow to the Big Bad Bear D....but this is surely a left-hook in comparison to that recent jab: Tommie Harris may not be available, either.

Surely, Cedric Benson will be playing out of his mind this Sunday. The depth of a Defense can be only spread so thin. If Tommie Harris sits, Benson could have a nice day at the office ripping up the trenches.

Go kick some arse, Cedric....

Dust off and get ready for Bengals vs Bears Week

The tiger took a horn from the bull. There’s no time to dwell, for it must lick it wounds and prepare to attack its next opponent…….da Bear.

In the eyes of adversity, this new brand of Bengal took a shot it couldn’t quite overcome. Our battle-tested Defensive line watched two of its major cogs head for the locker room, just the cup of joe Sleepy Eyed Schaub needed. There would be no 4th-Down conversions this week. Bubba Caldwell always says, “We just go out and let the playmakers make plays.” Unfortunately, our Tight-Ends are blockers.

Panic? No. We mustn’t panic. As Bengal fans, we all got our hands on that good drug…wins. We have spent the last month with that familiar feeling archived…losses. We can’t let one turn into two. Looking forward, this Sunday could put us back into control of the AFC North. The Vikings will surely be a challenge for the Steelers, and the Ravens are on a BYE. Over the next five days, the road to 5-2 and division control will require some change. A change must occur not only in personnel, but maybe a fine tuning of the collective mental toughness is in order as well.

For the sake of amusement and re-focus, let’s talk personnel change. Without question, a roster move must be executed within the next day or two. What will it be? A trade? A free-agent signing? A promotion? Would you rather see a big interior D-Lineman or another edge-rusher? Personally, I think we’ll be okay at D-End. I’d like to see a difference maker on the interior to share reps with Tank and Sims. Trade rumors are swirling, several teams are already preparing for the 2010 Draft that may be willing to pull a trade, and Clinton McDonald and Jason Shirley are ridin’ in the taxi.

Bengals refused 2010 1st round pick for Rey Rey????

Hey Kirk? Here's a research project for ya. I just read an intriguing passage on the Houston Chronicle.

Let me be clear, I would rather have Rey Maualuga than ....well, anything/anybody. He was far and away my favorite player 1-nano-second after I heard these famous words: "with the 38th selection, the Cincinnati Bengals select, Rey Maualuga, linebacker from Southern California."

In other words, I'm verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry happy the Bengals drafted the almighty StingRey and refused the 1st round pick offers. Despite my excessive research of everything Rey Rey for the past half-year, I never knew the Bengals were made such an offer. While this could be bogus, I found it interesting.

Thanks for the non-stop info cincyjungle, couldn't make it through the day without ya.
