This Just In: Winning a World Series Is Hard.
Hey, you know what? Winning a World Series is hard. Really hard. Like, metaphysically, cosmically difficult. As Buster Ballgame would tell you, you put in the work, you take care of the little things, and finally, you put yourself in a position to (hopefully,) get some dumb luck, like home runs that bounce off the top of the wall and become doubles.
You have to be healthy. Your karma has to be healthy. You have to be focused. But not tight. You have to have fun. But also be locked in like Sandoval in a buffet line. All those things happened to this team, this city. But it wasn't just the players who did it. It was you. Celebrate accordingly.
Your 2014 Giants
OK, so maybe you heard the 2014 Super Bowl will be in Giants Stadium. (I don't care what they call it; that's what it is.) Obviously, the dream would be to beat the Jets there. And I could even see the Jets getting there. But us? That's a looong way away.
So.
Which current players will still be Giants then?
More after the jump, (something most of the existing OL won't be able to do by then.)
Lighten Up. It's Friday.
Hey, we didn't get busted with any sixteen year-old hookers! (Right? Everyone accounted for? Ed? Anyone seen Ed? OK.) So let's have a little week-ending levity. This place could use some. Check out this Deadspin article about Giants vs. Jets management these days. My favorite quote:
"Jeff wasn't hungry, but he ate a second hoagie on principle. "I decided to average out my meatball sandwich to $4.25 each by eating another that didn't cost a penny," he said. "It was glorious.""
Random Thoughts; Bon Mots.
Pre-draft scribblins....
I didn't want Derrick Morgan. Now, I want him bad.
I didn't want to lose Osi. This whole thing is the press, jerking themselves off. But you know what? I'd trade him to Jacksonville for their pick.
Jason Taylor went to the Jest. They're New York's Team(tm) now, right? Everyone should care, right? Yawwwwwwn.
Mike Iupati? I'm not thrilled. Let's get Pouncey instead. He can play guard, and if O'Hara shows his age, he can move to center.
Still want Myron Rolle. And Gerhart. What can I say, I like players with brains. Less apt to shoot themselves in the leg.
Is it draft day yet?
Dept. Of Wacky Ideas: Albert Haynesworth.
We need to shore up the middle of our defense. The solution to our problems is a young man from the University of Alabama who we've all talked to death - a young man who may very well not be there for us at #15. Meanwhile, the Redskins need draft picks bad.
- The Redskins tried to get rid of Fat Albert in the McNabb deal.
- We're dealing with a grumpy Osi Umenyiora.
- The Redskins are goofier than Eli in front of a camera, and they get even goofier around draft day.
Could we? Should we? I mean, what if Jerry just managed to rob them? Osi and a pick, plus they pay a big chunk of Al's salary? Then go get a DE in the draft? It's a stupid idea, I know, but remember, this is the Redskins I'm talking about. We could probably trade them Feagles and two tickets to CATS... What say you?
(How many more days til the draft? I'm losin' it here.)
Who will be our backup QB?
According to Ralphie V and others, it looks like David Carr is on his way to Arizona. I don't even know who our third stringer is - Rhett Bomar? What should we oughta do here? Are there other free agent QBs out there we want to look at? Chad Pennington, say? Or maybe draft a pup? If so, which pup? And when? Not before defense, surely. (yeah yeah, stop calling you "shirley." ) But seriously, what say you, Giant fans?
Carlos Dunlap?
I don't think we need another DE. You probably don't think we need another DE. But if we stop and think about it - we didn't do squat off the edge last season. I'm much MUCH more concerned with the middle of the defense...but my name's not Jerry Reese. And neither is yours. And Jerry Reese seems to think you can never have too many DEs. I tell you this - Dunlap. Is. A. Beast. He does one thing: Sack quarterbacks. But I'd still be annoyed if we picked him in the first. Not "shoot the TV" -annoyed, but annoyed. What about you?
Monte Kiffin for DC?
Would we have any interest? When you consider USC is about to go on probation, maybe he lets Sonny-Boy go it alone for a while. I know his style doesn't mirror ours, but then, we've sucked lately and should be open to new ideas. The one thing I always have liked about him is his attacking style up front. He did win a Super Bowl, but then, with Sapp, Brooks, Ronde and Lynch in their primes, I think Ed could have won one. What say you?
Just a thought. Discuss.
