10 Fighters The UFC Needs To Have
The UFC is without a shadow of a doubt the mainstream face of MMA. When most people think MMA or cagefighting, the UFC is the first image that comes to mind. It's easily the most recognizable brand in the sport. Things that make the UFC so successful are there ability to bring in the best talent around world, have the best athletes and biggest names. With figures such as GSP, Anderson Silva, and Brock Lesnar headlining cards, the UFC has turned these once unknowns into household names and the UFC cashcow will only continue to grow.
But despite being the biggest fish in the pond, they're are still many other smaller MMA promotions, and some of these smaller shows such as Strikeforce, Dream, and Bellator, have been able to get a hold of top notch talent as well. While we can only wonder what would happen if all these promotions were under one umbrella, we take a look at some of the best fighters in the world, not in the UFC. Fighters from different parts of the world, and fighters that would make a huge splash if they could share some of that UFC spotlight. If the UFC had these 10 fighters to add to there already dynamic rosters, only good things would ensue. So let me take you on a journey and explain why i think the UFC would love having these guys and what I think they could bring to the table. (Note: This List Excludes WEC fighters, because the UFC has ownership over them and sooner or later i expect them to merge into one anyway.)
Feel free to disagree and put who you would have instead in the comment section below. And dont forget to vote!
Honorable Mentions:
Ben Askren (Bellator) Ben Askren is still very young in his MMA career, but is currently showing a wealth of potential. Recently winning the Bellator tournament, Askren used his superior wrestling skills to outclass all of his adversaries. Askren is also currently undeafeated, but a suspect stand up game may be his downfall if he were to plunge into the UFC picture. Askren would only add more depth to the UFC Lightweight roster.
Shane Del Rosiaro (Strikeforce) As much as i dont like him, Shane Del Rosiaro is the hottest prospect on the market. Currently unbeaten at 10-0, with 10 finishes, Del Rosiaro may be the future of the HW division. Despite being untested aginst upper eceholen competition, many believe Del Rosairo will derail MMA Veteran Andrei Arlovski if given the chance. However, until truly being battles tested, it may be too soon to tell what kind of success Del Rosiaros career will bring.
Eddie Alvarez (Bellator) Eddie Alavarez won the first ever Bellator tournament steam rolling through the compettion with ease. With only two losses on his record (Aoki, Thompson) Alvarez is a force to be reckoned with that would certinly stir up the UFC lightweight picture. A jump into the UFC pool would only benefit both himself and the company creating a mutual relationship. But can he beat a BJ Penn or Frankie Edgar? We may never find out.
10. Daniel Cormier (KOTC/Strikeforce) I had a rough time choosing between Cormier, Alvarez ,and Del Rosairo for the 10th spot on this list since they all bring so much to the table. However, Cormier got the nudge despite only being 4 fights deep into his MMA career because of what he has shown and done not only in the cage, but on the mat. Cormier was Captain of Team USA wrestling for the 2008 Beijing olympics. When it comes to amateur wrestling, cormier is creme of the crop. But he isnt a lay and pray artist like Fitch or Konrad, 3 out of 4 of Cormiers wins are by way of knockout. Cormier much resembles the likes of Shane Carwin.

9. Gegard Mousasi (Strikeforce/Dream) Like him or not after his performance aginst King Mo, Mousasi is still one of the best technical fighters in the world. With his only recent loss in a long line of fights coming to Ex Strikeforce LHW champion King Mo, Mousasi is very impressive for what he has accomplished in MMA. Recently finishing UFC cast off Jake O'Brian in under a minute. But is wrestling the kryptonite of Mousasi, and will the high level wrestlers in the UFC be able to bully him around? Hopefully we find out after his contract is up.
8. Jason Miller (Strikeforce) Despite once being in the UFC and losing to P4P king GSP, Miller has since gone on to make vast improvements in his game and beef up his body. Miller also came razor close to dethroyning Jake Shields for the Strikeforce Middleweight gold. And with the explosion of his hit TV show Bully Beatdown, everyone knows the Mayham Miller face and haircut. Only more attention and talent would come back to the UFC with Miller in the picture.
7. Roger Gracie (Strikeforce) Roger Gracie is arguably the greatest submission artist alive today. Even to go as far as saying if he ever gets mount he wins no matter what. With a recent win over Kevin Randlemen, Roger Gracie only looks to grow as a fighter. Gracie even showed a decent stand up game mixing it up with powerfl knees and strikes. But can he handle the ultra stacked 205 weight class in the UFC? I Would certinly like to know, would you?
6. Jacare Souza (Strikeforce) The Middleweight divison in the UFC has always been a little thin on talent compared to its surrounding weight classes. The addtion of Current Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jacare Souza would be great for the UFC as he is certinly one of the top middleweights walking the planet. Jacre has been coined by announcers as the Kobe Bryant of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and with 11 submission victory's on his resume its hard to argue otherwise. One can only dream of the potential matchups.
5. Shinya Aoki (Dream/Strikeforce) Had it not been for the others guys on the list Aoki would be number 1. Shinya Aoki would be very important to the UFC because of his asian background. It's no secret the UFC wants global domination, and expanding into asia is very crucial for that to succeed. Orginally, Sexyama was the UFC's ticket into the heart of Asian MMA fans, however after winning a controverisla decision at UFC 100 and getting submitted by Chris Leben at UFC 116, many fans have their doubts. Sexyama is also expected to lose aginst Michael Bisping when the UFC heads back to England for UFC 120. Despite losing to Gilberet Melendez in the cage, I still believe Aoki is the P4P best Asian Mixed Martial Artist walking the planet. He would be an extraordinary addtion.
4. Hector Lombard (Bellator) Many of you will question Hector Lombard for being so high on the list, but let me explain. Hector Lombard is currently on a path of destruction in Bellator, knocking out everyone put in front of him in the early frames of the bout. Many people are taking notice of the Cuban Judokan due to Bellator being avavilbe on basic cable tv, and some have even gone to say he is the second coming of Mike Tyson. It is true, Lombard hasnt been fighting top tier competition, but that is not his fault. Unfortunately, Lombards contract contains a Champions Clause, which if im not mistaken means he will remain under contract until he is dethroned as champion. Bellator is running out of people to feed Lombard, but as soon as he finds a way out of the contract i have no doubt the UFC will activley pursue him. The UFC middleweight divsion could certinly use this destroyer to shake things up.
3. Fedor Emelianenko (Strikeforce/M1) Dana White can say whatever he wants about not wanting this guy, secretly he would love to have him. While Fedor may have lost his P4P king status after getting caught in the triangle of Fabricio Werdum, he is still one of the best fighters on the planet. You dont win 30 fights in a row without being a badass. Fedor is still very marketable, and if the UFC ever did a ppv in Russia, Fedor would have Dana White whiping his ass with Benjamins. Besides, who doesnt wanna see Fedor and Brock fight? Id rather see Fedor fight than Struve any day of the week.
2. Nick Diaz (Strikeforce/Dream) The Bad Boy Of MMA, ever since leaving the UFC Nick Diaz has had quite an impressive run. The current welterweight champion for Strikeforce has been taking on all comers and finishing them handily. In my opinion Diaz is one of the few people that could challenge GSP for UFC welterweight title. And ever since Paul Daley got kicked out of the UFC, the welterweight division needs a new villain. A little drama never hurt anyone, and no publicity is bad publicity. Diaz is definitely a top ten P4P fighter and would only help the UFC secure the best fighters in the world. But is the UFC ready to take a chance and bring him back?
1. Alistair Overeem (Strikeforce) The Demoltion Man is in my opinion the one guy the UFC is dying to have. Alistair Overeem is not the fighter he once was, the new version of the super hulk Overeem looks unbeatable. After demolishing Brett Rogers many believed Overeem was the man to beat Fedor, however Werdum would get to him first. When it comes to stand up fighting Overeem has to be considered the best of the best for his work in K1. After knocking out Badr Hari, everyone was in awe and very excited for things to come for the big dutchman. Overeem would be a great addtion to the UFC family, and would probably make a great run for the title. Adding Overeem would give the UFC the best heavyweight roster in the world. One downside however is that K1 is Overeem's main focus, and the UFC would probably have to grant him the right to able to compete in K1 every now and then. But other than that, Alistair Overeem in the UFC is every fans dream.
Thanks for checking it out. Give a brotha a rec if you enjoyed it. If everyone got to see this before its disappears in the archives that would be all i hope to come out of this.
