How going after Lee makes sense

Link is to story about our interest.

I think if we make a move for Lee it will be as the 3rd team facilitating a 3 way S&T where we get a player from the team that wants Lee and NY doesn't have to take salary back.
That way, Lee gets paid, NY may get something, and we get the mystery player.
Now, the question is who wants David Lee and what could we get from them?

Yeah, he can't guard quick PG's. However, his rebounding from the guard position, leadership, BBIQ, and newly discovered touch from beyond the arc would be ideal.
I can't think of a better mentor for Bayless who would also be able to step aside once Bayless is ready to start. I'd do 3 years 30 million for Kidd. We'd still have Blake and Outlaw to trade if we wanted any other upgrades as well.

Keep in mind that the under the cap teams competing with us in '09 for free agents or all ready signed players are

the Thunder, Grizz, Pistons, Raptors, and maybe the Hawks. All other teams can only offer MLE, unless they have

the player under contract (RFA's subject to Gilbert Arenas Provision).

We need a SF and a PG, these teams have:

Thunder : KD and Westbrook, Probably will look for a Center or true PF, maybe open to trading Green if they get

David Lee.

Grizz: O.J. Mayo/Conley, and Gay. Need better quality big men. Better owners.

Pistons: Stuckey and Prince, Prob will look for bigs or a SG to replace Hamilton.

Raptors: Calderon and Marion. Need a Center, will try to re-up Marion.

Hawks: Could use a PG if Bibby walks.

Championship level teams that can offer MLE are:

Orlando: PG is set, need PF that can shoot like Wallace, especially if Turk walks.

Cleveland:May want Kidd, have Mo Williams though. Need scoring wing.

L.A.: Needs a PG, possible Kidd sutor.

San Antonio: Need bigs, BAD.

Maybe Houston: Could use a better PG, a first aid kit, scoring.

Boston: Need backup PG, need to resign FA's. Need a backup wing.

So the FA game of musical chairs spins around again. Our biggest threat to Kidd/Miller are their teams and

NY/LA/Cleveland (for Kidd).

Odom and Ariza likely stay unless Detroit offers Ariza silly money, which means that Prince may become available.

I'm trying to figure out who sets the market for Hedo's services. Maybe Sacto? I don't think he gets the 5/50.

5 & 6. Victor Claver, Parmesa Valencia and Jonas Jerebko, Angelico Bella: A couple of Europeans worth a mention. They’re similar players though Claver is a little better because of his scoring efficiency and the fact that he’s younger. Claver has pretty good potential as a scorer and Jerebko’s scoring numbers are solid enough. Both are weak rebounders and adequate defenders and passers. I have them here, because unless a foreign player really blows me away, I tend to place them between the players I generally like as prospects and the ones I feel come up a little short. If I researched it more, I suspect I would have Claver ahead of Dozier, Carroll and Clark. He might even be more appropriately listed as a SF. Either way these are a couple of decent forwards who should get called on draft night.

Trevor Has Suitors: The Lakers faithful saw a great series out of Trevor Ariza, who really rose to the challenge both offensively and defensively last night. League sources pointed to Trevor's pending free agency as the biggest problem for the Lakers saying that the Portland Trail Blazers are said to have a lot of interest in Ariza and could be the mechanism to drive up his price tag. Ariza told HOOPSWORLD this week that staying in L.A. was his top priority and that playing with Kobe Bryant meant a lot to him so it will be interesting to see how heavily the Blazers pursue Trevor.
