What I want in a Head Coach

The number one trait I want in my head coach is a complete and utter hatred of losing.

I want my HC to make everyone's life so miserable after a loss that the players will do everything they can to avoid one. I recall Ken Norton Jr. discussing Jimmy Johnson's demeanor after a loss. He said the man was almost insufferable. The players hated it... but that was the point.

I believe our current coach doesn't like losing, but I don't think he hates it either. After the loss to the Giants he seemed to think all was well because we still had a winning record. Memo to Wade: Lots of teams with winning records don't make the playoffs.

I don't know who our next HC will be, but I sure hope he hates the eff outta losing.

Pat Kirwan intrigued by the Cowboys

Kirwan is my favorite football insider. He provides insight on personnel moves and the workings of an NFL front office.

In this article, he discusses the playoff possibilities of Dallas and Cincy. He mentions that this year's Dallas club is "built differently". God I hope so. I'm on record predicting an 8-8 season. Looks like I will be wrong on that (thankfully).

However, the playoffs start now for the Cowboys. With 4 of 5 upcoming games against strong-to-dominant teams, we will have to play our best every week. That's what you do in the playoffs (or you go home). If we can win 3 or 4 of these games, I think our "steel" will be tempered and we'll be a force in the playoffs.

If I had my druthers, I'd like to see a Dallas vs. Colts Superbowl. We still need to avenge that SBV loss.

I am very happy to be in the process of being proven wrong.

Back in May I predicted an 8-8 finish for my beloved Cowboys. I said I had seen nothing that gave me the belief this team was going to show the mental toughness necessary to go places in 2009.

I'm not conviced that we've completely shed that monkey, but I am impressed at the steps the Cowboys are taking to toughen up. Hard to believe that a stinker against the Chiefs may have marked the beginning of a turn-around for these Cowboys. But ever since that game, the Cowboys have been getting better, smarter, and tougher. Beating teams with winning records. Beating bad teams in convincing fashion. Beating good teams on the road.

I am encouraged by this progress. There is still half a season to go and all of December yet to be played, but these developments are making my predictions look lamer by the week... and I couldn't be happier about it.

Our beloved Cowboys won. That is good.

What is better, is that they won in workman-like fashion. Think back to 2007. We were 13-3. We were on top of the world ma! But in that 13-3 we had the Buffalo game and the Detroit game. Games where we were easily superior to our opponent but didn't have the fortitude to put them in their place.

This game could have easily been the same. A key Divisional scrum on the horizon, a banged up former contender coming in to Big D. We already played a stinker against the Chiefs and this game had that potential written all over it.

Instead, Dallas took control and won easily. Seattle was game, but overmatched, and we didn't let them hang around. That is a sign of progress.

p.s. Sure is an interesting quirk of the schedule that we are almost half-way through the season and have only played one Division game.

A solid 3 and a half quaters of football.

I'll smurfing take it!

Grades:

QB = A Romo played mistake free football and was on target. When he plays like this, the Cowboys win, period.

Running Game = B- No really big runs, but enough productivity to keep the Falcons honest and seal the game. I'm still disappointed that Choice isn't starting for an obviously injured Barber. We will need a healthy Barber soon but I don't see him getting healthy with as many tough carries as he's had lately.

Blocking = A- Abraham was held in check and Romo had gobs of time. Not enough running lanes opened, but the pass protection was solid. The RB's were awsome in blitz pickup.

Receiving = B+ Austin is becoming the threat we all hoped for. Witten is Witten. Bennett showed up. Crayton was decent. If RW didn't suck so bad, it would have been an A.

Pass Rush = A- Ware and Rat were dominant.

Run Defense = B- We were gashed several times and that Snelling dude was eating us up. Fortunately, our Offense had put them in a hole that kept them from sticking with the run.

Linebackers = B+ Solid effort and seldom out of position.

Secondary = A- Sloberknocking all day long, ball hawking too.

Special Teams = A+ A TD and a crapload of touchbacks with no miscues.

Gameplan = B With two weeks to prepare, I was disappointed with Atlanta's initial march down our throats. I was disappointed with the failure to engage Gonzalez at the LOS. Bennett still isn't being properly utilized.

Adjustments = A Anytime you start out with three and outs and also get the length of the field driven on your D then follow that by turning up the heat, it shows good adjustments were made.

Attitude = A I think Brooking raised every player to a fever pitch.

Here's hoping we can carry this over to the Seahawk game.

Cowboys fans have been abused by Jerry Jones since 1994.

We need a "Battered Fan Shelter". We need counselling. We are in a horrible relationship with Jerry Jones. Every time he coos at us with his talk of Super Bowl talent he follows it up with a bitch-slap like yesterday's loss to the Broncos. Then he tells us he's always loved us and it's all about winning championships. We take him back and we beat a couple of crummy teams and he sings the song of how great it will be with our next trophy. Then he laughs and kicks us in the grapes with another 44-3 loss to the GD Eagles.

Will we never be rid of this monster? No. This monster will only get worse. If you want to see our future, look at the Oakland Raiders. Imagine Jerry with full on senility, drafting special teams players and trying to find the diamond in the rough. The search is on for the next Quincy Carter.

Remember this week when next May rolls around and I predict an 8-8 season, only to get ridiculed like I'm some kind of retard or traitor or retarded traitor. That's what happened last May (8 is not Enough). When Jerry trades two first rounders for Santana Moss next year, don't let yourself fall into the trap of thinking we've turned the corner. We haven't.

I am still a Cowboys fan. I still want us to win the Super Bowl. But Jerry's constant beatings is taking its toll on my psyche. I'm looking for a support group. Let me show you on the football doll where the bad man has hurt me. Oh well, at least I have my beloved Aggies... CRAP!

Cowboys fan here to talk a little smack!

The Cowboys have a secret weapon this week against the Giants. It's not Martellus Bennett... there's nothing secret about that wacko blabbermouth. It isn't Felix Jones... hard to be a weapon with an injured leg.

No, the secret weapon is none other than 6 Liters of Fury. That's my fantasy football team. And it smurfin' sucks to high heaven. Whoever I play has the crappiest week, guaranteed. Who were my RB's last week? Steven Jackson and Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs didn't do squat. But you were still able to beat the 'Skins in spite of my fantasy team turned voodoo doll.

This week, though, I've moved Eli into the starting lineup! It is officially over! I may even trade my only good player for the Giants' Defense so I can kill them too!

Regardless, call up your bookies, cause the Cowboys are a lock, thanks to my smurf sucking fantasy football team. The curse is in full effect. In fact, if I can email this to Coughlin, I wouldn't be surprised if he forfeits.. such is the level of crapitude being on 6 Liters of Fury brings out of a player.

I noticed that Ronde played way off Witten on that play. That should be good for some cheap yards in the future. This may also open up a good flare out for Felix. The possibilities with this player combo is intriguing to say the least.

I am so geeked that football season is finally here. Not just what if's now, but also what happened's.
