Daily Norseman Thank a Veteran

Today is the 69th anniversary of the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, plunging the United States into World War Two.  If you know a WWII vet, thank them for their sacrifice and service, and for defending their country.  My grandfather lied about his age and enlisted in the army at 16 on December 8th, as did most of the kids from his neighborhood in St. Louis Park.  I think about how hard that must have been to do at 16 years old, a time when i was still in high school.  I knew nothing of the world, and at the same age, he was signing up to potentially give his life for his country.  Quite a noble deed, and one that was performed by countless kids across the country.  Greatest Generation, indeed.

Daily Norseman Current State of the NFL and It's Rules.

So, I've been reading a lot lately about how the NFL has become an organization of overpaid primadonnas who cannot take a hit, and how they need to put on the big boy pants and get out there and play a big boy game.  I have a bone to pick with this premise.

Daily Norseman Michael Silver thinks the Favre return will be "Disastrous"

I am more than slightly put out at all the sh!t that is cropping up since Favre's return.  I guess to get hits on the site, sure, but what in Gods name happened to responsible journalism?  He states that Favre not attending camp will affect how the other players won't play the same around him because of it.  my question is, wouldn't it have been like that last year and we would have had a horrible season?  also, if my friend was trying to decide if he was going to come back, you'd be sure i'd go wherever he was to try and convince him.  just seems like a load of crap, and Silver should probably just cram it.  My .02.

Daily Norseman 24 hours later.....

Well, I've waited 24 hours to write my take on this whole thing.  I, like MilCardFan, wanted so badly for the Vikings to win the Super Bowl. I wanted my dad to see his favorite team win it all before he died.  Don't get me wrong, my dad and I don't get along much at all, and that doesn't mean I don't still love him, but he doesn't probably have long.  Since the story I'm about to tell occured, my dad found a new girlfriend/wife, divorced my mom, disowned my sister, and yet I still want to keep my promise.  The last game we watched together was the '98 NFC championship.

Daily Norseman My take on the game.....

We have a big job ahead of us on Sunday, but I think we have it in us to succeed.  I think now is the time to try some new plays, and maybe use some stuff we have been working on all year!

we have all said on here at one time or another that we should have a 2 back set with CT and AP, right? when would be a better time to bust that out?

We haven’t used the wildcat since i don’t know when…. how do we know that they aren’t getting their execution down to perfection, using percy in a way that people haven’t seen for a while….

speaking on the subject of percy, i think, between him and AP, are the lynchpin to this whole game… i think you get either or both involved early and often, we will win this game comfortably.

Speaking on tony romo; just 4 short weeks ago, everyone and their brother was talking about his inability to make it through december as a winner. he is NOT the reason the cowboys are hot right now….. their D is. shut down miles austin, i think with ced with a safety over top rather than ‘toine, just because ’toine may not yet be 100% and thats’s the best bet.

we have too many weapons on offense for their defense to contain all of them. the shutouts they have had have been against less than stellar offenses, and it’s not like they’ve been a defensive juggernaut until these last couple weeks. if OUR pass d is rated better than theirs, they don’t stand a chance. i’d put our cagey, playoff tested, 19-year pro, old man river QB surrounded by what may be one of the most underappreciated cast of offensive weapons against tony, miles and jason any day.

The vikings and the cowboys match up against each other very well, but i think we just have too many weapons for them to stop us consistently.  i think our d is good enough to stop the 4 or 5 weapons they have on offense and that's all she wrote.

in short, let's get this one in the books, hope nobody has any major injuries and have some fun on sunday!!

Talk amongst yourselves!

Acme Packing Company Thanks, Packer Fans!

I just wanted to thank all you guys at the Acme Packing Company for allowing me and a couple other guys to come over here and discuss things about yesterdays game without running us out of town on a rail.  I appreciate you guys as fans, and appreciate a very interesting game yesterday!  FYI to anyone who was aware of "The Bet", i got my diet mountain dew today, but bought my old band teacher lunch to show there were no hard feelings!!  thanks again, all!

Daily Norseman It's bad here right now, but not this bad!!

I'll admit that i'm a little pissy about the game and the way it played out.  i didn't get to see all the drama at the end of the game as i had to go back to church this evening, but from what i was getting on my handy-dandy pocket talky-box, it wasn't going well and i had to keep from freaking in the fellowship hall...  be that as it may, this is a good team to lose to, and still keep our street cred, and at least we didn't look like fucking clown shoes against the bungals (although they are quite good)

Daily Norseman Good Points..........

Watching The Herd this morning.  don't know if any of you like Colin Cowherd and I know some people around here don't like Trent Dilfer, but they made some good points about the "schism". To paraphrase, they both said, quite emphatically that it basically wasn't a popularity contest.  A leader, in any locker room from the NFL down to high school football is going to alienate some other players.  Not every player in pro football is, in fact, a professional.  I think both of them actually made valid arguments that BF doesn't have to be popular.  he has to be a leader.  He has to get in the face of anyone else thats dogging on a play. In my humble opinion, leaders are present anywhere.  when I played rugby in college, I was one of the few people that would get in anybody's face if they were screwing around or playing dirty.  Not to say that I was a leader, per se, but I definitely didn't take any shit from guys that made the team look bad or that were sandbagging.  As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter if BF is popular, it matters if he gets the job done and keeps some of the younger players in line.  We wouldn't think a single thing if Jared Allen chewed someones ass for screwing around or wasn't all that popular with some of the other players, because he produces and he is a leader.  If Trent D-bag thinks this whole thing is BS, everyone should.

Daily Norseman Oh, what a time to relive...

Wow, stay the hell away from the vikings site on yahoo.  There are at least two stories on there about 17 Jan 99. I'm sure we all remember that one.  so yeah, I just read both the stories on there and I got all pissy all over again.  Lol, it should have been a good day, drinking with my dad at age 18, because who doesn't want to have a couple beers watching the vikings go to the super bowl.  Boy oh boy did that all go crashing in.  anyway, stay clear, unless you want to go through black sunday all over again.  fun fun.
