Laird is in Lineup
Laird is looking more like Millwoods' personal catcher these days.
Could be an illusion though.
Final, Cleveland 14 - Cali-Anna - 02
Yes boys and girls the Indians are waxing the Cali-Anna hips through the bottom of the 7th inning.

second consecutive rainout
From the Rangers web site.
"For the second consecutive day, rain has washed out the Rangers. Sunday's game between the Rangers and Red Sox at Fenway Park has been postponed due to rain. The game will be rescheduled on a date to be determined later in the season."

Someone wants to know (Los Rangers)
If the script Confederate Rangers will be seen on Rangers uniforms in a MLB game in the future.
Nah. Too, much trouble. Better to be Los Rangers than to be from the old south.
Reader Bill writes:
If the Rangers organization REALLY wanted to kowtow to their Mexican-American and Mexican illegal audience, they should have put "Los Rinches" on their uniforms. That is the Mexican slang used to put down the Texas Rangers, sort of like calling them "pigs".
What is this? I ask. Isn't everyone a Rangers fan?

Then again the 300 character minimum is a real fun hurdle to posting a lineup thread too.

After Kevin Millwood does his job in tonight's game against the Mariners the result will still be up to the Rangers hitters. I hope they get to Moyer early and often.

A story about a purported fight between A Rod and Jeter. There may be trouble in the Evil Empire.
"I was doing an interview in the locker room and saw them go at it," says the source. "A-Rod walked past Jeter's locker and mumbled something about his throw, then Jeter told him to go [expletive deleted] himself and all hell broke lose. Their teammates were pulling them away from each other."
Naturally a blanket denial was issued as well.
Yankees spokesman Rick Cerrone called the fight an "absolute fantasy," and denied any rift between the players, claiming "there are no lines drawn in the clubhouse."
MLB Scout School
The mother of all "I didn't know that" stories.
I would not say this is a total immersion into the scouting career field. It is an ambitious article about the what's, how's and why's that scout's use to evaluate baseball players.
What: The tools of position players, and the attributes of pitchers (in the bull pen and on the field).
How: Using stop watches and note cards and notebooks, and radar guns, and knowing how to think about what you are seeing.
Why: The scout's mission is to find "a major leaguer".

Today's game: pre-game thread
Tandem starters
Today's game features C. J. Wilson' debut as a starting pitcher for the Rangers. Wilson has some ML relief pitching assignments under his belt. According to media sources (Jamey Newburg's web site, radio interviews, and the official Texas Rangers web site) C. J. will be limited today to an 80 pitch appearance. The second Rangers pitcher or back half of the tandem pair, if you will allow that term, is Jason Standridge.
Game is on
The Rangers' loss has not changed the AL west standings.
The Nats defeated LAA's final score 6-3.
Today's game may be more of the same.
With Davies pitching for the Braves and sporting an ERA of 1.86. The Rangers could make this game very exciting by roughing up Davies. Well here's to the first 40 minutes of this game.
Pedro Astacio vs
Pedro Astacio
Time again for P. Astacio to hurl batting practice . . . culminating in a great work out session for the Rangers bull pen. I owe this low expectation to my high schooling philosophy. The teachers from the 1st day until graduation implored "Expect the wosrt then anything better than that is a real surprise."
Promotion Watch: Thomas Diamond may be promoted very soon. This snippet from J. Newberg's blog today:
Diamond is now the only member of Bakersfield's original rotation who hasn't been promoted (C.J. Wilson, John Danks, Edison Volquez, and Murray have each moved up). But to be fair, there were various stories after Diamond's masterpiece on Thursday that he'd get one more Blaze start before being elevated to Frisco. That start should come tonight against Lancaster, the club he dominated last time out with seven scoreless innings in which he punched out 14 JetHawks, walking none and yielding just three hits.
I am one Rangers fan that can not wait for T. Diamond to be promoted to AA. And so it is a promotion watch for Thomas Diamond.

RHP Tim Hudson 3.36 ERA in 2005 will be facing the Rangers hitters.
Sunday's pre-game thread
Thanks for your help in setting me straight on last season's loosing strak record.
NWS Forecast (Zip Code: 33056)
This Afternoon: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly cloudy, with a high near 88. East wind between 11 and 14 mph.
So we have TEX: RHP Ricardo Rodriguez vs
FLA: RHP Brian Moehler 2.59 ERA in 2005.
LINE UP TEX: LHP Kenny Rogers ERA: 1.62 vs
FLA: LHP Al Leiter ERA: 6.45
The table is set today in the Rangers favor. If the Rangers don't hit even a Kenny Rogers' masterful performance won't win for them. When it's showtime this evening at 5:05 PM CT we'll quickly see if the
Rangers are hitting or just not in the mood to win. Provided that the weather cooperates. Update [2005-6-11 17:45:56 by Iaanmte]:http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=250611128 Line up

Frisco pitchers Juan Dominguez (already on the 40 man roster) and C.J. Wilson (not on the 40) are on an airplane right now flying to Florida where they will join the Rangers for the Marlins series. (I knew something was up yesterday when Wilson was pulled after two innings of his Frisco start on Wednesday).
June 9th pre-game thread
June 9th pre-game thread
Reflecting back on the reported reactions of the player(s) and the (deafeningly loud) no comments from the coaching staff to the "firing" of R. Dreese, will this affect positively or negatively on P. Astacio's performance on the mound tonight?
Update [2005-6-9 13:9:42 by Iaanmte]: The NWS forecast for this afternoon is: Partly cloudy, with a high near 94. South wind around 9 mph. Media: TV FSN/Radio KRLD and Rangers Radio Network (RRN)
June 8th pre-game thread 6:05 PM (CTZ) start
Representing the Rangers best hopes for their future pitching dominance 6' 10" RHP Chris Young takes the mound tonight in Philadelphia.
And RHP Robinson Garcia Tejada from the Dominican Republic makes his debut as a Phillies starting pitcher. Rob Tejada's MLB career began May 10, 2005. He has been in the bull pen since his call up, until tonight's scheduled start.
I am expecting the Rangers hitters to put on a clinic tonight. The struggles of the Rangers non hitters in the line up will be highlighted in contrast to the Rangers hitting successes.
Yes, sore eyes and bright smiles. What a combination for Rangers fans. Insert Update [2005-6-8 18:21:48 by Iaanmte]:http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=250608122
June 7th pre-game thread and Line Up
Phillies RHP Lieber has been good when pitching at home this season. The Rangers have got to bring their collective "A" game to today's outing.
The Phillies won't give the game away but the Rangers may take it. Stats wise I could not find a solid push in the Rangers favor. Preparation and Buck's management ability can not be underated if the Rangers are winning this week.
Today's pre-game thread
K. Rogers is scheduled to take the hill for the Rangers. RHP Zack Greinke did this: 0-1, 7.20 ERA vs. Rangers in 2005.
Yesterday in the pre-game thread I looked at Lima's 18.00 ERA recorded for the first game this season he pitched to the Rangers and concluded he would improve on that awful performance. I did not think he would taunt the Rangers after a scoreless inning or 2.
Today, I think the Rangers may not have a chip on their collective shoulders, but I think they are of a mind to win big today. The Rangers plate discipline will again produce base runners. Rangers hitting with runners in scoring position should improve to a near 2 out of 3 attempts mark. Did I say improving in the top seven (expected) spots in the batting order?
Today's pre-game Why the Ranger's wil bounce back
The KC Royals have won every game they played since Buddy Bell took over the helm. The Royals recent wins give a whole new meaning to the term bell curve.
The Rangers' [just keep] grinding it out attitude is an ingredient for the success experienced this season. The Rangers' fans and players know that 1 for 8 hitting with runners in scoring position (last night's performance) is not going to win games. And the players own the loss. The players do not dwell on it though.
