Just an interesting(well, interesting to me) observation, which someone may or may not have already commented on:

After hitting three homeruns today, Reyes is now on pace to eclipse the 20-homer mark, as well as the 20-double and 20-triple mark. A "triple 20", or whatever you want to call it.

I did a little research, and, apparently, only four men in history have ever done this.

George Brett, in 1979.
Willie Mays, in 1957.
Jeff Heath, in 1941
Jim Bottomley, in 1928.

It may be worth noting that three of those four are in the Hall of Fame.

Cubs draft

I was the mock Cubs scouting director, so I was curious to see who they'd take in the real draft. When the pick was announced, I was a bit perplexed. I'd never heard of Tyler Colvin.

Sure enough, as I searched through BA's first round draftracker, he was nowhere to be found. Finally, I managed to locate him on BA's top 200 prospects list, all the way at #170.

Any thoughts on this? I took Bill Rowell(who ended up going 9th to the Orioles), by the way.

Any more comments on the Cubs first round pick? I'd like to narrow it down to about five or six guys. Right now I'm looking at:

Clayton Kershaw
Brandon Morrow
Max Scherzer
Luke Hochevar
Drew Stubbs
Kyle Drabek
Bill Rowell
Daniel Bard
Travis Snider
Brett Anderson
Matt LaPorta
Chris Marrero
Hank Conger

I'm assuming that Longoria, Lincoln, Miller and Lincecum are locks to be taken before the Cubs pick. It's also probable that at least two or three of the guys on my list will also be gone by that point.

Any thoughts? I'm completely open to suggestion on the fifth round pick, as well.

Also, I still need a deputy.

Corey Patterson: finally figured it out?

Patterson hit his fifth homerun of the season tonight, stole his 14th and 15th bases(he's been caught just once all year), and even walked twice, raising his line to .306/.353/.505.

So, he's still showing that impressive blend of power and speed that made him such a highly touted prospect, but he's also hitting well enough to make his OBP more than adequate, all while cutting down on his strikeouts and playing his usual brand of strong defense in center field.

110 at bats isn't a huge sample size, and he has teased before(in his injury-shortened '03 season), but is it possible that he's finally figured things out? Has Terry Crowley done it again?

I'll be doing the mock draft for the Cubbies. Any input from Cub-loyal posters? SoCalBob?

I will also be needing a deputy, apparently. I plan on being around on draft day, but it is a couple of weeks away.

The Cubs have but one pick in the first four rounds(the 13th overall selection), thanks to the signings of Scott Eyre, Bob Howry and Jacque Jones. As such, I'll be looking to take the best available guy, regardless of position. Getting a polished college hitter would be ideal, though.

crazy splits: Brad Hawpe

Brad Hawpe, OF, Colorado Rockies

Home: .279/.392/.372, 1 HR, 4 RBI in 43 AB
Away: .446/.508/.946, 7 HR, 15 RBI in 56 AB

I don't know if this is some sort of joke, or a computer glitch of some kind, or perhaps the result of mind-altering drugs, but that is one of the craziest things I'v ever seen. The Rockies still play home games in Coors Field, right? Is this accurate? Anyone care to explain?

Couldn't recall any."

Wasn't John Olerud basically handed the starting job immediately upon signing his contract? He didn't record a minor league at bat.
