Grady Sizemore - On pace for a HOF career?
Grady Sizemore blasted two more homers today, bringing his season total to a respectable sixteen. Only 25 years old, Sizemore's numbers are quite impressive. Thus far, he's hit 94 home runs. On pace for 39, I'd say Sizemore should hit about 35 this year, bringing him up to 113 total career home runs.
Now, I think Sizemore can play another ten seasons, which I think is very possible, considering he:
A) Loves the game.
B) Seems like a durable, versatile player. He's played 162 games his past two seasons.
Assuming he does play ten seasons more, and keeps up his 162 game average of 26 homers, that gives him 373 career home runs. I think he will hit over that a few seasons, giving him a very real chance of getting to 400 career home runs. As a CF, these numbers are pretty impressive. However, we all know 162 game averages are simply 162 game averages. The odds of Sizemore playing 162 games a year for ten more years is slim. He SHOULD however maintain his power and hit 300 at this pace. Also assuming he keeps up his pace of steals, which I know decline as one ages, he should get over 300 steals. Again, a very real shot at 300-300.
Another note, Sizemore's K:BB ratio is nearly 1:1, showing he IS improving in that field. Can he keep it up is the question, but he is a fantastic ballplayer.
Also, if Wedge moves Sizemore to the three slot assuming the Tribe can get a decent leadoff hitter, he could easily rake in 100+ RBI a season.
The question -- is Sizemore a future HOF'er? Does he have it in him? I personally think he is one of the most exciting players in the game.
Arizona Diamondbacks: MOD #2 (Midway through)
#26: Anthony Hewitt, SS/OF, Connecticut HS - A bit of a reach I think, but I really wanted to scoop him up. He is a big time risk, most definitely, but I think his ceiling is tremendous. If he cannot handle SS, I would love to try to get Hewitt to play 2B a bit, but I think he definitely bolsters our system tremendously.
#43: Alex Meyer, RHP, Indiana HS - Signing him will probably be an issue, but he has arguably the highest ceiling of all the HS pitchers this year. With a 6'7'' frame and a repeatable delivery, I am pretty confident that Meyer will emerge as one of the better pitchers from the draft one day. I know we have Davis, Webb, Scherzer, Parker, and a plethora of other pitchers, but you can't have enough pitching and Meyer at #43 is a strong pick IMO. I was really considering taking Dennis Raben here, but I think we are strong at 1B with Conor Jackson, and a potential OF of Chris B. Young, Justin Upton, and Anthony Hewitt could be a good one. Hewitt will probably take a bit to develop, so I might take the route of a low-risk, medium-reward college OF'er, like Jordan Danks, a bit later on.
#73: David Adams, 2B, UVA: Actually went to HS with David and have followed his career at UVA. He is an advanced hitter, decent fielder, and I think he could be MLB ready. Was going to be a 1st Rounder out of HS, but was strongly committed to UVA, so he slipped to the Tigers in the mid-20's. We need some 2B in the system, so I am happy with this pick here. Maybe a bit of a reach, but I think he could make an impact.
As of now, I'd like to bolster our bullpen a bit and also take a 2B and C later on. I have numerous names and feel this could be a strong draft with a weak class.
Thoughts?
MOD: Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks have these picks for the draft this coming June:
First Round: 26.) Arizona
Supp. Round: 43.) Arizona
Second Round: 73.) Arizona
Third Round: 104.) Arizona
Fourth Round: 138.) Arizona
I have a few ideas down, and think that the organization is in dire need of a quality catcher. While Buster Posey and Kyle Skipworth won't last this long, I think there are some other quality backstops we could use a later pick on to make it so Chris Snyder isn't out catcher. I like Adrian Nieto a lot and have actually seen him a few times.
I also wouldn't mind a toolsy, HS outfielder that may take awhile to develop. Byrnes is 32, and I think taking somebody like Isaac Gallaway or Jordan Danks with our first pick may suit the team well.
As far as pitching, I think the team is pretty much set for now, so I would want a HS pitcher if I am going that route. Johnson is about 60 years old, but Owings, Webb, Haren, and Scherzer should be good for awhile. Maybe like a Brett Devall/Alex Meyer if they are available supplementary rounds, but I have some good, HS pitching sleepers in mind.
BJ Upton - Emerging Superstar?
Hanley Ramirez vs. Ryan Braun
Hey guys,
Who would you take in the long run? Hanley or Braun? Not talking about fantasy. This has nothing to do with fantasy baseball, something I personally have zero interest in.
Both profile pretty well. Hanley can hit for pretty solid power. Braun edges him in that category. Hanley easily dominates Braun on speed, however Braun is not fast. Not even going to go into defense.
Who has the higher ceiling long term? When all is said and done, who's career numbers will look better? It's kind of crazy for me to think that Hanley is younger than Braun by about a month.
