Bleeding Green Nation Donovan McNabb's 'guts'

The past few seasons, I have been disappointed that Donovan hasn't been running the ball very much. To me, you don't need a Wildcat formation when our quarterback takes off with the ball 2-3 time per game.  It keeps the defenses reeling and makes their secondary much less effective as they watch for him to possbily take off.

I was estatic to see him running in game 1, but figured he won't be running the ball much after the McRibbs injury.  I am so glad that he is running after all.

I thought McNabb had every right to not run with the ball and to instead fire off quick, short "West Coast" passes all day long yesterday,  given his sore ribs.  But instead he held that ball as long as he needed to let the plays developed and had two great runs. That guy has a lot of guts.  I see a hunger in the guy that I haven't seen since 2004.

It was a great day for a great QB.

Bleeding Green Nation Desean and his Celebrations.

I love Desean.  He's amazing.  He's the best. He certainly deserves the right to celebrate.

But Desean has got to wait until he is one step inside the end zone to start his celebration, not one step outside.  If he had dropped that ball during his flip he would have acheived another record  - and not a good one, either.

That cocky little bugger is going to make the hall of fame if he can survive a normal career without getting injured.  I loved how they said he was coaching the rookies during pre-season.  He just might turn out to be everything that T.O. could have been - a leader, a team mate AND a star.

Bleeding Green Nation Dmitri, Reggie or Hank?

I haven't seen who they released yet, so I'm going to go out on a limb and volunteer someone.

Dmitri, Reggie and Hank seem to be the least critical players on the team right now.

Dmitri isn't as good as the rest at his position, but the team is not as deep there as they are at WR.

Hank and Reggie have complimentary skill sets. Hank is good at dropping fade passes, while reggie more often drops your standard route passes.  When Hank does connect with the fade, he is the best on the team at it. When Reggie connects on his patterns he's got six other guys who are just as good or better than he is.  Plus, Hank and Dimitri can play on special teams. Reggie doesn't do that.

Reggie's skills are redundant in position where the Birds are rich. He really isn't a terrible player, he just isn't good enough for the Eagles

I'm sure they already got rid of someone else. Maybe it was Westbrook, who knows?

Bleeding Green Nation Opie and Andy and the Philly Shuffle

So watching Sean McDermott's post game interview - he looks so much like Ron Howard that I'm going to start calling Big Red and Little Red 'Andy and Opie'.  With the movement of Trent Cole into a linebacker role (if only for one play) and the fact the most of our ends can go inside as well as outside, and how they sub so much to stay fresh, I want to call the front four "The Philly Shuffle."

The most encouraging thing about the D was the first set of downs however, when they got marched all over and scored on.  Why?  Because that is going to happen all season at one time or another. Offenses will figure us out and get some points.  It's how the D responds when that happens that matters, and boy did they respond. To a man, the players said that Opie just made a few tweaks and it was shut down from then on. Now THAT is encouraging.

Opie and Andy and Philly Shuffle.  I think I'm going to like that.

Bleeding Green Nation Time to Rename JIBTA

OK, so now that Jack the Iguana got cut, it's time to rename our favorite troll-poster, Jack Is Better Than Asante.  To tell you the truth, I was kind of hoping that Jack would develop, but now that he's gone, it's time to find a more appropriate nickname for JIBTA, and while my first choice is "My Mommy Dresses Me in Giants Blue", I think we should hear from the rest of the posters as to what friendly and supportive suggestions they might come up with. Of course there should be rules in a contest of such an auspicious nature, but to tell you the truth, who cares?  Have at it because just like Jason Babin, JIBTA has earned every thing he's gonna get.
