Gruden (Jay) To Interview on Monday

+

'The Eagles confirmed Friday that they’ll meet with the Bengals offensive coordinator on Monday. Gruden, younger brother of Jon Gruden, has spent his past two seasons with Cincinnati, which has made the postseason twice in quarterback A.J. Dalton’s first two years but lost first-round games each time due to poor offensive performances.'

2013 NFL Draft: Offensive Line

+

In lieu of a season in which many believe the Eagles had/have a talent deprived OL (opposed to one riddled w/ injuries and ever changing line-ups) a lot of people are under the impression that the Eagles are going to/need to go OL w/ the 4th overall selection in this year's draft. In light of that, Philly.com dropped a listing of the top offensive line prospects in addition to some sleepers in this years upcoming draft.

Reid-uce, Reid-use, Reid-cycle

+

Andy Reid appears to have a 'Help Wanted' sign posted in the window of the Kansas City Chiefs stadium for ex-Eagles coaches. Does it apply to (soon to be) ex-Eagles players as well? Reid was asked about to possibility of Vick in KC this upcoming season, and while he didn't completely endorse the idea he didn't exactly kill any chance of speculation.

Dave Stoessel over at Eagles Addict explains why he not only considers Lovie Smith to be the defensive version of Andy Reid but also lets it be known that he's not warm to the idea of him being the next HC of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles announced today that they have signed WRs Nick Miller and DeMarco Sampson to two-year contracts. Miller (5-9, 180) has played in 17 games with the Oakland Raiders (2009-11) and St. Louis Rams (2011), registering four receptions for 48 yards and 404 yards on 45 career punt returns, including an 88-yard touchdown. Originally a rookie free agent signing of Oakland in 2009, Miller played collegiately at Southern Utah. He was released by the Raiders on October 1, 2011 and signed by the Rams on October 6. He scored his first-career touchdown, an 88-yard punt return on 11/27/11 against Arizona. He was released by the Rams during the 2012 offseason. Sampson (6-2, 204) was a seventh-round draft choice of the Arizona Cardinals in 2011 after playing collegiately at San Diego State and twice earning All-Mountain West honors. He recorded three catches for 36 yards in 12 games as a rookie. The Chula Vista, CA native was released as part of the Cardinals final roster cut down in 2012.

The Philadelphia Eagles deny reports that they have scheduled a HC interview w/ Bengals OC Jay Gruden.

An Inside Peek At The 9 Hour Meeting W/ Chip Kelly...

+

Tommy Lawlor from IgglesBlitz and the Fandonium Blog (PE.com) pull a few nuggets from a video posted on PhiladelphiaEagles.com; in which Adam Caplan was being interviewed and sharing his take on the Philadelphia Eagles coaching search this far. Because there has been a lot made of Chip Kelly going back to Oregon versus becoming the Eagles next HC, I took special exception to what Lawlor relayed from the video regarding that 9 hour meeting w/ Chip. '* Caplan says the Eagles never made a contract offer to Chip Kelly. Caplan made it sound like the 9-hour meeting was a mixture of the Eagles selling Kelly on the job, but also the Eagles figuring out if he is the guy they would hire.' As I said before, a lot of people media/fans were under the impression that because of the length of the meeting, Chip Kelly was the favorite to be named the Philadelphia Eagles next HC. I always looked at it as, b/c Chip had no prior NFL history PE brass had a lot more to cover w/ him opposed to other candidates. Anyway, good read and Tommy posted a link to the video interview on his site.

Per a league source, some teams believe the Bears and Eagles are employing the Al Davis approach to interviewing coaching candidates. Davis was notorious for using a head-coaching vacancy as cover for bringing in assistant coaches from other teams and picking their brains, all under the guise of possibly hiring them.

An in depth look at Rutgers Khaseem Greene. I think we'll likely be moving to a 3-4 this up coming season, & if not we could still use an upgrade at the strongside LB spot.

McNabb's Take On The Possibility of Chip Kelly in Philadelphia

"I feel like [it] would be a bad move to bring Chip Kelly here," McNabb said. Why? Well, McNabb believes the Eagles need to find a defensive-oriented coach. "It's like your just grabbing names out of a hat..." McNabb said.

"It's exciting to be in a position where maybe I can help some young scouts," Donahoe said. "I know they have a lot of young scouts in their personnel department. It might give me an opportunity to contribute to their growth and development. Maybe they can benefit from all of the stupid things I've done."

Trent Edwards is brutal. Missed 3 straight receivers in drills, with no defense on the field. That’s the equivalent of a 6’9 power forward missing three straight dunks in the pregame layup line. And I’m not sure he’s capable of throwing a spiral. I’d put his chances of making the team at somewhere around… oh… say… 0%. I’d be surprised if he even makes it to training camp.

Really hard to make a read on the safety situations without pads. It looks to me like the entire secondary is much more aggressive and confident. They know the scheme. The coaches are demading. Nnamdi Asomugha was sensational all week. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie made plays. And I think Nate Allen is primed for success. Kurt Coleman seems firmly ahead of Jaiquawn Jarrett at the moment.

Everyone continues to be impressed by Brandon Boykin. He is talented and athletic. He can do it all (cover, tackle, hit, and make plays). We need to see how he does at Lehigh and in the preseason games, but Boykin could turn out to be our most important 4th round pick in a while…maybe since Jason Avant in 2006 or Todd Herremans in 2005.

More Notes From Yesterday's OTA

Anything to read while passing the time at the 9-5 'It is interesting that Reynolds is the backup C for now. Not sure what to make of that. He’s played almost all OG in his time with the Eagles. He played all over the place at BYU. I like him at C. Maybe he’s earned that role in the individual work. Maybe he just knows the offense better than the other options and that’s why he’s there.'
