Bolden, recruiting and controversy.
In the journey of Robert Bolden lies lessons we all can learn from.
Playcalling - What happens now?
I hate to ask this, but what are the implications of all this on PSU's playcalling?
Ivan Maisel's Take
He gets it right.
Is it ironic??
If this is the year PSU beats both OSU & Iowa?
Perhaps the coaches know what they're doing?
There are plenty of discussions - some well reasoned and many irrational - assigning the majority of blame for the offensive woes on the coaches. I'm not arguing that they're not responsible, but I think they're being treated unfairly.
Jack Crawford & The meaning of overrated
I made a comment in an email today that Jack Crawford was one of the most overrated players in PSU history. Was I jumping the gun?
Bama Ticket Thread
Can I start one of these? I'm with a group of 8 PSU fans, none of us have tickets. We don't expect to sit together. I can't speak for the others but I would like to sit between the 10s. We are all willing to pay market value.

Tuscaloosa - Which Econo Lodge?
I booked rooms at both Econo Lodges in Tuscaloosa (1930 McFarland Blvd and 4501 McFarland Blvd). It looks like my group will be able to fit into rooms at one location. Any recommendations about at which one to stay? They appear to be roughly equidistant from Bryant Denny. Also, if you need rooms, let me know.
Mark Ingram has knee surgery
Many argue that Richardson is better anyway, but I don't think he's as complete as Ingram. Maybe this will help?
Welcome back Casual Football Fan
When is this coming? I'm looking forward to it
Joe & Big Ten Media Days/Luncheon
Does anybody know if Joe is attending B10 Media Days in Chicago at the beginning of August? I am considering going to the B10 Kickoff Luncheon, but I don;t want to pay the $100 if Joe won't be there.
QB, OL, Ceilings & Floors.
Maybe this is something everyone already knows, maybe not, but I wanted to consolidate my thoughts on this matter.
If any of my BSD mates are Chicago Bears fans, you've heard GM Jerry Angelo harping about players' ceilings (potential) and floors (minimal performance). I'm utterly disinterested in the PSU QB competition, but obsessed about the OL situation.I think Angelo's framework is applicable to this situation.
QB: Ceiling - accurate passing, chunks of yards on the ground. Floor - Lots of TO's.
OL: Ceiling - steady run production and opportunity for the QB. Floor - inability to gain 2 yards or provide the passer time.
The QB's floor is controllable through playcalling. Just make him hand off to Royster, et al. The OL's is not. No matter how conservative the play call, if the OL can't perform, no play will be successful.
As a result, the QB situation is basically irrelevant. We know that the coaches will be extremely conservative through at least the first half of the season - and who can blame them? But without reasonable OL play, there will be no chance of success for the offense.
Who could be the next long-tenured coaches?
There will never be another Joe, but will there be another coach who's at the same school for even 20, 25 years?
Retroactive love
I've noticed that UM fans have designated Tom Brady as one of their most revered alums. Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember plenty of Michigan fans complaining about Brady when he was there. Plenty of dolts wanted Drew Henson to play.
Does PSU have an equivalent? A player that was unappreciated while at PSU, then all of a sudden became loved after reaching success at the next level?
Pretty sure nobody active in the NFL qualifies, but even historically, I can't think of any examples. Thoughts?
Conservative offensive approach
Can you make an argument that a conservative gameplan is not what best suits PSU in this game? PSU is very strong defensively, Michigan's offense has a tendency towards turnovers, Michigan's defense is opportune but not stout. Other than PSU turning the ball over, should Mich really be in this game?
I don't think so. Therefore, isn't a conservative gameplan best?
Is it too quiet?
This is Michigan week right? I am unsettled by the quiet. Or is it just me?
Blasphemous Question
Interchange DC17 for either Lord Tebow or McCoy, and how does that change the national championship aspirations of each team?
MSU @ PSU 2008 replay
Anybody else watching? Home solo w/ baby today, so I'm on my third viewing
What PSU classics would you like to see?
Yesterday JayPa tweeted that he was filming interviews for BTN Classics: '85 PSU-Alabama and '93 PSU- Michigan State.
My #1 is 1997 OSU. I also would like to see the 05 Northwestern game, '96 Michigan, 1993 USC, and, to be fair, 1992 BC.
VT Nonconference schedule
I would love to see PSU play a schedule like this. It can be done, and should.

Anybody else watching this? How did PSU lose this game (or at all this season?)

Wallace to offense?
Who is going to stretch the field this year on offense? Can we count on Powell/Price to do it? I believe master zug and brackett can be effective at moving the chains and in the red zone, but I'm not sure either of them will push back the safeties.
Does it make sense to consider moving AJ wallace back to offense - especially if it's clear that he's not going to cut it on defense? The guy has had four years to learn the position, and he's not that big. He seemed to me to be more explosive than powell, who seems more fast/smooth.
Does anyone know if the B/W game will be televised?
Fulmer Cup
Who wants to set the over/under on PSU's performance in this year's fulmer cup? I am hoping they don't break 10.
Defending Zone Read
I've noticed over the past few years that PSU has trouble defending the zone read. Illinois 07 + 08, Michigan this past weekend, what little success Purdue had moving the ball the past 3 years has come on zone read plays. No team has been able to beat PSU solely on running the zone read, but teams have had success with it. Generally other game circumstances dictated that the opposition get away from it.
That said, PSU has never faced a dual threat QB/RB like they will this weekend. Also, last season what beat PSU is OSU receivers getting significant separation - all of those receivers return.
I think I will lose my mind this week. My wife is an OSU fan and is in my head. Can someone please talk me off the ledge?
