Cavs Don't Need Ramon Sessions Now, so Let's Go Get Him
By drafting Kyrie Irving, and with Baron Davis already on board and likely to stick around for a while since his contract is tough to trade, Ramon Sessions seems to be the odd man out in Cleveland's rotation. With enough minutes, this guy has put up some great numbers in Milwaukee and Cleveland, and he'd be a huge upgrade for the Celtics as a backup PG.
Cleveland seems to need size, so a sign-and-trade with Glen Davis (maybe with other pieces like Avery Bradley thrown in) seems to make a lot of sense to me. There are only a handful of teams that really need another PG, and I have a feeling Dan Gilbert isn't going to be eager to help Miami out any time soon, so the Celtics, as Miami's rival, might be in a great logistical and psychological position to make this happen.

All-Star Silliness - Get out and vote!
According to the most recent All-Star voting tally (http://www.nba.com/2009/news/12/31/allstar.ballot.3/index.html), Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson are set to be among this year's starters. Anyone who's been paying attention this year knows what waste of an All-Star spot this would be. So here's what I propose: Let's get a Hoops Justice movement going. Head over to NBA.com, vote for All-Star starters, and vote for the 2 players behind McGrady and Iverson, respectively, along with whoever else you want. So in McGrady's case, that would mean voting for Steve Nash and Chris Paul as your Western Conf. guards. Totally legitimate picks, by the way. For Iverson, that means voting for Vince Carter and Ray Allen as your Eastern Conf. guards. For the record, I'm not sure either Ray or Vince really deserves a spot ahead of guys like Rajon Rondo or Joe Johnson, but neither of them have a realistic shot of unseating Iverson. And both Vince and Ray are far more deserving than Iverson, at least by the numbers. So if you wanna get some Hoops Justice done, go vote as many times as you can in the next 14 days (limit of one vote per day, and you have to create or log into your NBA.com account). All of this is obviously very subjective, and if you're a T-Mac or Iverson fan, hey, congrats. Go ahead and vote for your boys. But in case you agree with me and wanna do something about it, go vote for Nash, Paul, Vince, and Ray, and pass the word along.

For Iverson, that means voting for Vince Carter and Ray Allen as your Eastern Conf. guards. For the record, as much as I love Ray (I'm from Boston), I don't think either he or Vince really deserves a spot ahead of guys like Rajon Rondo or Joe Johnson, but neither of them have a realistic shot of unseating Iverson. So if you wanna get some Hoops Justice done, go vote as many times as you can in the next 16 days (limit of one vote per day, and you have to create or log into your NBA.com account). They're saying "Lue," not "Boo"
So after tons of debate here and elsewhere, Ainge decided that the Celtics could get by without a traditional backup point guard because Marquis Daniels plays a decent point-forward. I was skeptical, but it has seemed to work out well enough, and Eddie has been able to go back to doing what he does best (shooting) and not doing what he does pretty terribly (bringing the ball up the floor). So far, so good.
Until... (ominous music) Marquis goes down for 6 - 8 weeks with a thumb injury. So how do we get Rondo some rest now? I'm sure Rondo's capable of playing 40 minutes a night until Marquis gets back, but given how much his feet were hurting in last year's playoffs, I don't think that's a great idea. And how about when Rondo gets in foul trouble, like he did early last night vs. Washington?
I say now is the time to get Tyronn Lue out of his unofficial assistant coach role and get him in green. Wasn't that the whole point of hiring him? In case the point-forward backup thing didn't work out? Unless we really want to see what Lester Hudon is made of, this seems like the obvious time to get Lue out there for 15 minutes a night. I'm assuming that Marquis' injury allows us to put him on injured reserve and put another guy on the roster, right? Or would we have to cut/trade someone to make that happen?
Could Lester Hudson run the 2nd Unit?
So there's been a lot of discussion about the backup PG situation, and understandably so. I thought this would become a moot point 14 months ago when Mario Chalmers somehow fell all the way down to us in the 2008 draft, but Danny apparently saw something in JR Giddens that, well, I sure haven't.
So the result is that we don't yet have a clear-cut way to get Rondo the rest he's gonna need come playoff time. With Rasheed, House, and Marquis in the second unit, we don't seem to need a backup PG who can score - just one who can run and distribute. As the free agent supply gets thinner and thinner, it's worth asking whether Lester Hudson could be the next best option? Has anyone actually seen this guy play? I've read that he has a good shot - but could he penetrate and dish for 12 minutes a game, too?
