Marian Gaborik continues to replace Forsberg as the most fragile player in the NHL. His chances at re-signing with the Wild must have taken a hit with his move to IR. If his injuries continue, you can bet on Gaborik being traded by the deadline.

NHL 09 rankings out

IGN has posted the NHL09 rankings for all NHL players. (Just click on the captain to see the teams rankings.) There are few items that caught my eye though for anyone interested.

1. There is no overall ranking. According to Bill Barnwell at IGN....

...at this stage of the game, EA's still tweaking the game and its AI, which affects the overall ratings to the point where they're not ready to be confirmed.

2. I guess they assume Sakic and Forsberg will be back since they are on the team. They both have the highest offensive awareness at 95. Of course, Forsberg as an atrocious durability rating of 63.

3. Stastny is ranked 87 on offensive awareness. Seems low for the team leader in points last year.

4. Svatos is the most accurate shooter on the team with a 90 ranking. His passing? 80.

5. Raycroft is ranked HIGHER than Budaj in almost every category. Budaj beats him in only recovery and durability. I guess that Calder trophy is still carrying him. And why is everybody, even game makers, so down on Boots?

6. And just out of curiosity, Ovechkin's offensive awareness is 95 while Crosby is 99. I thought they would be even.

Open letter to the Edmonton Oilers

Since the season is now officially over, teams are allowed to trade again. Of course, one player on the Avs (And I don't think I am alone on this one) should be prime trade bait.

Dear Edmonton Oilers

I bring a message of good will as an Avalanche fan. I think the Avs could have a great offer that would benefit both teams. Your franchise misses the Gretzky era and I have the perfect solution. A trade with the Avalanche that would make the Oilers an elite team in the western conference. I speak of course, about a trade for the one, and only, Tyler Arnason.

You have seen how well he performs. He is an offensive force to be reckoned with. Hell, he is a point a game player, when facing against your great team. Imagine what he could do if he played for you! Second coming of Gretzky? Pfft! More like the second coming of Jesus.

I know what your thinking. "His season stats don't look that great." But maybe thats because he doesn't have the Oilers to inspire him. Every time the Avs play you, Arnason gets pumped to plead his case to the greatest sports team ever! He plays great against you because he wants to BE you. He will not be content until he wears an Oiler uniform. Rumor has it, that if you fulfill his dreams, he will grant you three wishes.

Why would the Avs trade such a valiable player you ask? Well, the Avs are in need of a first round pick since it was lost after the Adam Foote trade. So a first round pick would be pretty nice. Maybe add in Cogliano with that first round pick and we have one hell of a deal. I think you should take it. You are a model franchise after all.

If you take the deal, and you would be crazy not too (Did I mention you have beautiful eyes?) both teams will benefit for years. See you in the western conference finals.

                                                                                                            Hugs and Kisses

                                                                                                            Avs fans everywhere.
