I happen to be a KC fan, and yet, I'm confused how to react to this news of Swingin' Rick heading southward. Somehow I'm simultaneously excited and apprehensive. Granted, he'll be warming pine for a few seasons behind Castlevania, but... Let's just say it ain't called the "Show Me" state for nothing.

Well... my other half and I have been residents of this amazing side of the state for a little over 2 years now, and we still haven't been to a game at Kinnick. Not being experienced in the area of attending live games, I have a question to pose to the amazing think tank that is BHGP:

"In your opinion what will be the best home game to attend this football season?"

Obviously this is purely subjective. I'd really appreciate your input!

I did a bad thing. I used this site to get backhanded revenge on someone and I apologize. I tainted their rep on these boards, it was a immature and uncalled for. I wish to apologize to MPHawkfan and anyone whom I confused/offended. I broke the rules; I know the boards are not meant for personal attacks. Ok, I'm willing to blow away the lonely, misshapen grain of credibility I have as a college football fan, and post my thoughts on this year's bowl games.

I know almost nothing about the Bee see ess rankings system, I've had many people attempt to explain it to me but after the words "Okay, this is how it works..." all I can seem to recall is the visual of a roller coaster on fire and the mind-numbing noise of static and desperate screams. I have no idea how they pick teams that can go to bowls,  all I do know is that Team A brings more fans to Location D than Team B, so they won't be playing each other, but Team C had a higher rank than Team V at the end of the year so they qualify for.....   *zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ*

As far as the teams that did manage to slay the Beholder that is the ranking system, these are the only ones I give a damn about:

ISU vs. Minn in the Terri-bowl: This ROFLcopter of a game could only be improved by the swift application of explosives, fire and bacon. In that order.

Iowa vs GT: Hmm... Hawks vs. a car full of bees.. (That IS their mascot, right?) I think we win. Maybe. There are bees involved... Yeah, we win.

Rose Bowl: There are two teams playing, one will win.

Other bowls: ... um.... go big televen?

There are other teams playing other games, but I honestly don't care. It's nothing against them, or anybody else. Congratulations to all the college teams who made bowls, condolences to those who didn't - I'm sure you'll get voted "most improved" for next year. 

I know I sound iggnant and uncultured, but please make sure to wake me up when the game starts.

Back a couple of years ago - in the hellish days living in the land of ice, snow and Goopher Phans, the man and I came across a drunken asshole gentleman who was very keen on college sports.

On and on he sluringly droned about the bubonic plague-carrying piss yellow rodents Gophers (how he managed to keep it all positive I'll never know), and he then asked the husband whom he rooted for. Husband answered, to laughs from the few others gathered 'round. Then this individual asks:

"So, what exactly IS a Hawkeye?"

Not missing a beat, my man throws back: "A bird that flies north every year and eats a gopher."

Yessir, that shut 'em up pretty damn fast.  

Because, I'm one of those people whom, once football is over-with*, switches over to my other favorite Violent Sport Of Choice™ which happens to be hockey. I came to love it watching the D-1 college my signifigant other covered in Omaha (GO MAVS!), and when we had to move to the 5th Circle of Hell (it's the cold one) it became my only salvation in a place where winter lasts 6-7 months. I just like the sport, and it satiates my need for violence during the time when there is almost nothing** worth watching. 

So am I just some crazy hockey-loving freak of nature, or are there any others out there in BHGP land that would support a Hawkeye Hockey team? 

*Yes, I'm well aware that football isn't quite over yet - but 2 months is a long time damnit!

**with all due respect to the institute that is Iowa Basketball you can't tell me replacing the wood in Carver with ice wouldn't make things more interesting for a basketball game. I'd PAY MONEY to see that. 

I still bear a grudge about this...

About four years ago my (then) boyfriend and I were playing a rousing game of Trivial Pursuit on my PS2, and were tied for the very last piece to win... He somehow (with his font of sports related knowledge) managed to make it all the way to the end without getting his green (Sports & Leisure) pie-piece. We had been going back and forth for about twenty minutes and were both thoroughly frustrated when he received this gem:

Q: Who do the University of Iowa Hawkeyes play every year for the "Floyd of Rosedale" Trophy?

I screamed, I cried and flipped off the television. I disturbed the neighbors with my language...

He picked himself up off the floor from laughing so hard, pressed "square" and cemented my defeat.

If ANYONE but a true Iowa fan would have gotten that question I would have won... I blame Minnesota for this, because this is HATEweek and I can goddamn it.
