Should Jimbo move to the booth?
I believe Jimbo started coaching from the field as he worked with Ponder as a new QB and recall him saying, he wanted to look him in eye, get a feel for what was going on with him, etc. Now that Ponder seems to be one of th few stable pieces of the Seminole offensive puzzle, should Jimbo move back up to the coaches box where he can have a better view of how things are unfolding on the field?
I say all this knowing that BB is doing NOTHING on the sidelines relative to motivating players, hassling the refs or any of the things that an involved head coach is doing and that JF prolly feels he needs to be down there doing the head coaches job as well since our head coach is not doing it but still, would he be better served in the booth???
Totally disgusted long time Nole
I am originally from Jacksonville, FL and attended Florida State in the early 80's. Years we were beginning to build, a la USF, a reputation as a program with giant killing potential but lacking in consistency. I held season tickets during much of the dynasty years. I was in Clemson for the Puntrooskie and in Doak for Wide Right 1 and was so proud of the program that Bobby Bowden built as we swaggered into statdiums knowing we would win for 14 seasons.
Now, I live in Charlotte, NC and am thankful everyday that I do. Why? Because I am surrounded by basketball fans who don't wear Orange and Blue and have very few people who care enough about football in the state of Florida to stick in my face the sad reality of FSU football. I used to complain that we have gone from dynasty to mediocrity but now, I would be happy with mediocre because currently, we are simply bad. An embarrassing, 4th best (at best) team in the state with a coaching staff in disarray which has led to unmotivated, under-talented, undisciplined players playing bad football.
As I watched Miami play Oklahoma last night, my anger simmered. Watching the size and talent and schemes they put on the field on both offense and defense made me realize just how far we are from where we should be as a proogram. They have recruited better players and have a coaching staff who apparaently can communicate both with the players and with each other. Are they perfect? No. They made mistakes against OU but were good enough to overcome them and, like FSU of the 90's they balanced out those mistakes with more than enough hard hits and big plays on both sides of the ball.
This is a tired cry on this board and others at this point but, I will publically add my voice... Bobby Bowden must go at the end of this year. He needs to announce it at his Monday press conference and let players, both current and future know that the time for change has arrived. Is Jimbo the right person for the job? Like others, I have no clue. All I know is that BB is no longer the right person to lead FSU back to respectability. Give Jimbo a chance to jettison coaches, and take the leadership reins and see how he does. If he fails, find someone else but, please, this has to end.
