Niners Nation High upside Mock draft

There are only a few places where starters can now be picked up in the draft. We're mostly now looking at WR4, OLB3, FS2, and RG1 and 2 and Center 2 (swing lineman) (I have very little faith in a Kilgore. He couldn't beat out the worst RGs in the league last year.) Below is a mock that answers those positions with no trades.

Rd1. - Kevin Zeitler - G/C - The 2nd best of the interior linemen when it comes to technique. Also demonstrated his ability to play center at his pro day, (apparently he had much less trouble with the position than DeCastro did when he attempted at Stanford's). Fantastic balance and knee bend. Has tremendous lateral movement for a guard... (Perhaps good enough to play tackle in a pinch). Not just a technique machine who's good in pass pro, Zeitler also displays the power of a road grading guard and can blow his man off the ball. Is he a reach at 30? It only seems that way because this is the draft with the most elite talent at guard ever. Other years he might be taken as early as #20. IMO I'd take him 10 times out of 10 before last years #1 guard off the board Danny Watkins, (based on skill alone not Watkins advanced age for a draftee), who was taken 23rd overall.

Rd2. Amini Silatulo/Brandon Brooks - G - Say Wha? I'm double dipping on the interior linemen?!? Here's why. Silatulo/Brooks are both high ceiling projects. Not a big ones but projects. They may or may not pan out. But, if either does pan out they'll be everything we were hoping Chilo would be. It will probably take them a year or two to fully develop. For that short time they'll be the backup guard. HOWEVER, if Goodwin goes down we WILL be moving Zeitler to center for that timeframe and Silatulo/Brooks will be right at home putting guys on their butt as our fill-in. When, (slight if), Silatulo/Brooks develops we can move Zeitler to center and start him permanently. At 62 Silatulo is a value of 15 picks or more. Many scouts have him going in the top 45 and the reason he might slide out of it is because this draft class is so awesome at these positions. Brooks is rated very differently by different scouts depending on what they value... Because of his out of this world athleticism, (his pro day was quite comparable to Cody Glenn's performance at the combine), I have him as 1st round talent, but his lower level of competition and being rather raw he'll quite possibly be there at 62.

Rd3. - Markelle Martin - FS - Anybody that knows me knows I'm not a Goldson fan. He whiffs tackles and has low situational awareness on the field. IMO he was a product of our all-world front 7 and more than half the starting safeties in the league could have done what he did behind them. Goldson has already shown last year he wants to be paid like he's a top 5 guy. There's nothing to suggest anything will be any different after this season. No need for a me-first guy on this team. Especially one that doesn't know the difference between a wrap-up tackle and a buffalo chicken wrap. Markelle does everything Goldson does, (absolutely lay the wood), is more athletic AND, ANNNDD he is not a liability in coverage. Great fit for us. And we lose a me-first guy.

This is where we start aiming for the stars with guys with elite potential.

Rd4. - Adrian Hamilton - DE/OLB - The Prairie View A&M super stud is a small school product who put up monster numbers. Hamilton (who's pro day was a couple days ago and the numbers seem to be nowhere) has demonstrated elite athleticism and quickness again a lower level of competition on his tape. He topped 20 sacks in his last season and has demonstrated a nasty spin move and great first step. The question is, will he still be here at 128?

Rd5 - Derek Carrier - WR - Another small school product from D-III Beloit that sent scouts scurrying for his tape after he blew up Wisconsin's pro day. Carrier measured 6’3″ 240 pounds, ran a 40 under 4.5, measured a 40-inch vertical, 10-2 broad, and 6.69 3-cone drill. The 3-cone time in particular was impressive as only 1 WR at the combine topped it. Carrier led the Beloit Buccaneers last year with 75 catches for 1,250 yards and 12 touchdowns. Carrier was a 3 sport star for the Buccs in football, basketball and Track.

Rd6 - Dale Moss - WR - Moss was a member of the South Dakota State basketball team and never played college football until 2011. In his first and only season on the football field with the Jackrabbits he led the team in receiving with 61 receptions for 949 receiving yards and six touchdowns while starting just nine of 11 games. His upside is ENORMOUS. At SDSU's pro day Moss measured 6 feet, 3.5 inches and 213 pounds, posted a vertical jump of 41.5 inches and broad jump of 10 feet, 10 inches. His forty time clocked at 4.45 seconds then Moss ran an amazingly fast three cone time of 6.32 seconds and 60 yard shuttle of 10.82 seconds. One scout at the workout mentioned in seven years of attending pro day and combine workouts Moss' three cone time was the fastest he's witnessed.

Rd7 - Kellen Moore - QB - Just because.

Niners Nation Interesting 5 Round Mock Draft + FA scenario - speculate. Would you like?

In FA we resign Morgan and Alex and if possible Rogers and Ginn, (If Rogers walks sign Finnegan, if Ginn walks that will be addressed in the draft) and sign Robert Meachem WR

We slap a 2nd round tender on Larry Grant. The Eagles who have a miserable linebacking corps snatch him up kindly giving us their 51st pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Come draft time:

With the 30th pick we take Stephen Hill WR Georgia Tech - WR is now taken care of. We have Morgan, Meachem, Crabtree for possession receivers and Hill, Kyle Williams (and possibly Ginn) as burners.

Then we trade pick 51, (From Philadelphia for Larry Grant), 94 and 190 for pick 38

At pick 38 the Niners draft Kevin Zeitler OG Wisconsin. Zeitler is a stud and technician and as he will demonstrate at his pro day can also play center. (This will come in handy for when we move Anthony Davis to RG and draft a real tackle in the near future)

At pick 62 the Niner take Markelle Martin FS Oklahoma St. Martin, like our current FS, absolutely lays the wood. Unlike our current FS, he doesn't take horrible angles and whiff tackles or get burnt in coverage. Upgrade as early as next season and we let Goldson go after the riches he so desires

Rd 4. Pick 126 (not including compensatory picks) Niners take Jared Crick (3-4 DE) Nebraska. Crick in this scenario has slipped a little after a mediocre combine and a bit of bad, (for him), luck. At this point he's the BPA and the Niners take him as a developmental prospect to push Dobbs and may the best man win.

Rd 5. Pick 158 (not including compensatory picks) Here the Niners gamble with character issues in hopes of some maturation and a big payoff. The Niners select Cliff Harris CB Oregon. The talent has always been there for Harris especially as a return man but the legal troubles and not top tier athleticism will make him slide.

We address WR with 2 new players and 1 to 2 returning FAs

We address OG (and C when we move Davis to G and Zeitler to C)

And we add depth at CB, FS and D-Line.

Agreed? Alright lets get crackin on this Baalke

Niners Nation Dontari Poe...ly SH*!!!

What a combine! Dude maybe just jumped all the way into the top 10. That is a workout that might never be equaled.

6'4" 346", 44 Bench reps, 29.5" vert, 8'9" broad and a 4.87 unofficial, (corrected to an official 4.98.) 40 with a 1.68 10yard split, 4.56 20 Shuttle and a 7.90 3-cone. Not that he'd be around when we picked but he definitely made the most money of anybody at this combine.

Where do you see him going now? Where does his value sit? Is he now athletic enough to be considered in a 4-3 scheme? I'm just awestruck by that workout

Niners Nation If Manny Lawson wants too much... Do we let him walk and bring back Julian Peterson???

Maybe I'm a little late on this news, but apparently the Lions are not bringing back Julian Peterson this year.  As for why I have no idea.  Last year was another solid year for JP, racking up 83 ToT, 6 Pass Defenses, and 1 sack.  Certainly not his best year but honestly its better than any Manny Lawson has ever had!  As recently as 06 and 07 in Seattle JP racked up 10 and 9.5 sacks...

Here is some career statistical comparison between the two for perspective

First Manny Lawson

YEAR TEAM G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF REC INT YDS TD
2006 SF 16 57 47 10 2 2.5 0 0 1 0 0
2007 SF 2 11 8 3 1 0.0 0 0 0 0 0
2008 SF 14 45 33 12 3 3.0 1 0 0 0 0
2009 SF 16 68 51 17 2 6.5 3 0 0 0 0
2010 SF 16 59 48 11 6 2.5 2 5 1 0 0
Career 64 240 187 53 14 14.5 6 0 2 0 0

Next we'll take a look at Julian Peterson

YEAR TEAM G TOT SOLO AST PD SACK FF REC INT YDS TD
2000 SF 13 46 29 17 10 4.0 0 0 2 33 0
2001 SF 14 51 37 14 3 3.0 0 0 0 0 0
2002 SF 16 94 76 18 7 2.0 2 0 1 2 0
2003 SF 16 94 69 25 11 7.0 3 0 2 31 0
2004 SF 5 27 23 4 2 2.5 1 0 0 0 0
2005 SF 15 82 57 25 5 3.0 1 0 0 0 0
2006 SEA 16 89 71 18 6 10.0 1 0 1 -4 0
2007 SEA 16 74 63 11 3 9.5 4 0 2 3 0
2008 SEA 16 86 65 21 5 5.0 4 0 0 0 0
2009 DET 16 76 49 27 4 4.5 5 1 0 0 0
2010 DET 15 83 56 27 5 1.0 0 0 0 0 0
Career 158 802 595 207 61 51.5 21 0 8 65 0

To make it as relevant as possible

Let us focus on under-achiever Manny's best season in 09.  Manny made 68 tackles, had 2 PD's, 6.5 sacks and 3 FF's against JP's 2009 season of 76 tackles, 4 PD's, and 4.5 sacks with 5 FF's and 1 recovered.  Unless JP has absolutely fallen off a cliff I believe we could be looking at a significant upgrade bringing Peterson back and letting Manny walk.  Not only that, Julian would be an excellent, fantastic, wonderful player to bring in to help mentor and develop Aldon Smith and show him how to be a leader on the field.

I've made the case - what do you think?

University of Virginia CB Ras-I Dowling measured 6-foot-1 5/8, 199 pounds at his Pro Day Monday, April 4, reports NFL.com's Gil Brandt. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds and 4.33 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.26 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.85 seconds.

Niners Nation You KNOW you want this... Making the case for Julio Jones

It was a time for defense in college this year with future superstars Patrick Peterson, Daquan Bowers, Von Miller and Nick Fairley carrying the headlines.  The #1 projected pick of a year ago in Robert Quinn didn't play a snap and he's still in the top 8 projected picks.  As of two days ago, there wasn't an offensive player at this year's NFL combine whom I was interested in using the #7 pick on.

Then Julio Jones stepped up.  Nobody knew anything was amiss.  And it certainly didn't seem there was as Julio fell about 1 notch short of putting on a performance for the ages.  Speed concerns?  "Have this 4.39. "  AJ Green is the jump ball receiver in this draft?  "I'm a little heavier but I'll still jump 4" higher at 38 1/2"   How can that be topped off?  "I'll put down a near record in the broad jump."

Julio straight WENT OFF.  He outperformed his doubters in just about every way possible.  (He also displayed good hands in the only positional drill I saw.)  His performance exceeded my expectations in everything except vertical leap... And then word broke today that Julio had gone and had a screw surgically inserted to fix a fracture in his foot this morning.  He dropped the whole workout on a fractured foot.  I knew he played through injuries in big games at Alabama but to come out at the combine and then just annihilate the competition while hurt is extraordinary.

There is now an offensive player I can support taking at 7 assuming PP and Quinn are off the board.  Julio Jones is going to be a stud.  The only question is whether it will be for the Niners.

Niners Nation Who wants Bob Sanders? I do! I do!

In a mind boggling, yet at the same time strangely understandable move, the Colts have released FS Bob Sanders.  Just 3 years ago Sanders sat atop the NFL world as Defensive Player of the Year and capped his season off by toting an interception into the endzone to secure the 2007 Super Bowl win over the Bears.  Since that time Sanders has been wracked with injuries playing only 9 games in the past 3 seasons and having torn his biceps muscle in both arms.  He's set to make 5.5 million in base salary the coming season but we're all aware of his injury prone nature.  So the question here is this...  Is Sanders worth the risk?  A torn bicep while a season ending injury is not IMO anywhere close to a career damaging injury.  This isn't a torn quadriceps.  Your biceps is probably one of the absolute LEAST applicable muscles to an NFL player.  So I still believe we could get a lot of utility out of him.  When he's healthy he's as good as any safety in the league as far as all around ability.  His statline from 2007 read 15 games, 96 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 6 passes defended, and 2 Ints.  Is he worth it to you?

Going after Peterson. I said not long ago if we couldn't get Harbaugh I'd love to have a gutsy guy like Peterson as my coach.

"Stanford has notified Boise State it would like to speak with Broncos coach Chris Petersen about replacing Jim Harbaugh, a person close to the situation told ESPN.com's Joe Schad on Saturday.

Petersen, a native of Yuba City, Calif., has a 61-5 record in five seasons at Boise, leading the Broncos to two Fiesta Bowl victories and first place in the WAC four times."

Niners Nation The time has come BENCH ANTHONY DAVIS

Staley is out and Sims is in.  Last year Sims perhaps played better than Staley coming off the bench...  Staley has been shakey at best this season, perhaps we can get the same out of him again this season.  But worse than Staley has been Anthony "QB KILLER" Davis.  Yes I know he's a rookie, yes I know he's 21 years old, yes I believe he MIGHT still get better, (in the time-frame of his entire contract not this season)...  But his major issue was present in college and it hasn't been corrected in the slightest at the NFL level and worse its possibly a natural ability thing.  His first step is far too small to get out in front of an explosive speed rusher and its because his balance stinks.  This is not something that will fix itself as the season goes along.  This is a major problem and a long term fix.  Even in college he got blown away by speed rushers because of the tiny steps he takes when shuffling his feet.  To compensate he over-commits and starts leaning outside setting himself up to get destroyed with spin moves and the famous Reggie White style "club".  He already got Alex Smith buried.  No professional football organization should tolerate such utter incompetence.  Troy looked great today but the most impressive thing to me was that he didn't let A. Davis' futility kill the final drive, kill his confidence or just outright kill him via big hit.

The solution is on our bench.  At one time Alex Boone was a higher recruited lineman than Davis.  Coming out of high school Boone was a 5 star recruit with a 6.1 rating.  Anthony Davis was a 6.0.  And this rating was already taking into consideration that Boone had a problem with alcohol.  Boone excelled in college while being a drunk in his free time.  Davis couldn't even keep from whiffing 2 or 3 times a game at the college level.  Now Boone is sober and wants to turn his life around.  DUMP DAVIS.  BRING ON BOONE.  He has the frame to be a RT even more so than a left and he never had a problem in college keeping his man in front of him.  From my reading his biggest blocking issue was more so that his height sometimes made it difficult for him to get under his competition's pads and drive block.  Considering A. Davis hasn't really done squat in the run game either its not a big negative.  Boone's off the field issues are in the past.  Davis' on the field issues are the present and the future.  GET HIM OUT OF THERE NOW BEFORE HE GETS TROY KILLED TOO.

Niners Nation Eugene Parker at it again

He's found another player he can convince is worth more than his slotted position.  Parker is part of the 2-man agent team with Roosevelt Barnes representing young super-stud Ndamukong Suh.  When deals for both Sam Bradford and Gerald McCoy were wrapped up it seemed like it would only be hours before Suh put pen to paper and joined the Lions.  Rumblings from the Lions camp suggested that a deal was close.  BUT NOT SO FAST...

Niners Nation Chris Henry - The NFL and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy

We all remember Chris Henry though I didn't remember exactly how he died at first.  A few months back he ended up in a fight with his girlfriend then jumped out or was thrown out of the bed of her moving truck.  1 Day, massive brain trauma and a fractured skull later he was pronounced dead.  The toxicology report showed nothing out of the ordinary, no alcohol or drugs in his system.  In 2007 when Henry had been arrested for the fifth time a judge called him "a one man crime wave."  He was given another chance and turned his life around.  Or so it seemed anyway.  So what would cause him to act in the manner leading up to his death?  After the jump it brings a whole new aspect to the NFL's brain injury prevention system in place.  It may begin to rewrite the way we look at sports and their effect on the brain in general...

Niners Nation 49ers Sign CB Karl Paymah

Fooch's Note: Any thoughts on Paymah?  Camp body or someone who can compete with Tarell Brown and company for legit playing time outside the base 3-4?

I don't know much about the guy...  Probably just adding more depth again.  Sing is obviously confident in the team he fields on a weekly basis.  Makes the draft even more intriguing.

From 49ers.com

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday that they have signed free agent CB Karl Paymah to a one-year deal.

Paymah (6-0, 195) enters his sixth NFL season after originally being drafted in the third round (76th overall) by the Denver Broncos in 2005. Paymah has played in 72 career games (seven starts) and has registered 67 tackles, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and 14 passes defensed. He spent his first four seasons with the Broncos before signing with Minnesota, in 2009. Paymah played in 12 games (two starts) and recorded 14 tackles as well as 11 special teams tackles last season.

Niners Nation Kurt Schottenheimer named 49ers Special Teams Coordinator

Fooch's Note: I just got the press release on this, but there's a link below.

“I am very thankful that we were able to add Kurt to our coaching staff,” said head coach Mike Singletary. “He brings with him invaluable experience from more than 30 years of service in the NFL and college coaching ranks. Kurt has a diverse background and a tremendous knowledge of personnel, both of which will serve the 49ers well in producing a top-notch special teams unit.”

There's absolutely nowhere to go but up for this unit.  I can't really judge much about the coach himself but its hard to imagine him doing any worse than where we were last season unless he gets rid of Andy Lee.

Bad Left Hook Where Does Cintron Go From Here?

He just had the best performance of his career to motivate him right when his career was at the brink.  I am now convinced Margcheato was plastered against Cintron as well, (and i'm betting Kermit believes it deep inside at this point too).  Aside from Plasterhands he's never been knocked down, (also discounting the headbutt KD against Martinez), and while his chin may still be an issue he took several good shots from Angulo without ever seeming hurt.  He also at least partially answered 1 of the 2  biggest questions in his career which is of course, "Does the guy have any heart when the going gets tough?"  The way he stood in and swung with Angulo in the 12th, though he was completely gassed to the point of hanging on to not fall down from exhaustion, showed he could fight through adversity.  (And even win the exchanges with the super hittable Angulo)

Now for the question marks.  He is still a 8 to 10 round fighter.  He completely took 2 rounds off in the 5th and 8th to recover and was still dead by the middle of the 11th round.  Can he ever get the gas tank to throw the kind of leather he did tonight that made him look so good and last 12 rounds?  Will the excellent movement he showed tonight become a staple of his future arsenal?  Lastly...  Will he continue with the beautiful combination punching that he was murdering Angulo with in the 3rd and 4th rounds or revert to his old 1-2 back up and reset style?

If nothing else his career is certainly brighter today that it was at this time a week ago.  So....

Where does Cintron go next???  A rematch with Martinez who just seems like he has the skillset built to make Cintron look bad?  Perhaps a matchup with Cory Spinks who seems to be on the downward side of a stellar career for the IBF title?  Or should Kermit do battle with Daniel Santos (for the WBA strap) in a battle of the Puerto Ricanos?

The Non-title options for Cintron are perhaps even more dangerous...  There is the possibility of a matchup with the always dangerous Vernon Forrest or the super high risk almost no reward match with now deposed WBO contender Verno Phillips.  There is also a matchup possible with undefeated deposed title holder Sergiy Dzinziruk, (a very dangerous opponent with no common fan name recognizion).

WHAT SAY YOU FAN FOLK???  What do you think of his prospects and where should Kermit go from here?

Bad Left Hook Just a quick update - Ricky 140 Pacman 138

The height difference wasn't even noticible in the faceoff for the cameras but Pac is, as always, the more ripped/leaner of the two fighters.  Ricky looked to be in good shape too but in no way did he look as cut as Manny who was sporting his usual riblet muscles.   No badblood or shaniniganery erupted between anyone involved but both guys looked intense.  Teddy Atlas tried to claim without any real basis that Manny overtrained, (he even prefaced saying that by saying he was trying to make a case for Hatton), and likened Manny coming in at 138 to DLH coming in so far below the limit.  It seemed to me like he was really reaching on that comment as with DLH you could see how gaunt he was and could visibly see his pulse.  With Manny there was no such physical notices that he had overtrained though he looked pissed off like any fighter that had just cut weight does.  He probably went 1 lb past where he intended to finish his cut IMO.

Final opinion.  Manny actually looked like the bigger man in terms of frame and musculature though he weighed in 2 lbs less than Hatton.  Ricky looked like he could have made 137 or less had he been as water drained and lean as Manny.  My prediction is Manny puts on 13-15 lbs overnight and Ricky puts on 13.

Bloody Elbow King Mo to Require ACL Surgery

According to Five Ounces of Pain King Mo has a torn ACL and will have surgery done next week. King Mo expects 3 months until he recovers from the surgery. Hopefully we see him back in a big fight on SENGOKU’s August event.

I didn't get it from them I got it from Nightmare of Battle

I think Mo should just take his time and rehab.  There is no reason to risk reinjuring his ACL potentially catastrophically this time and having an extended absence.

Bloody Elbow New Paulo Filho Interview with Tatame: "Arona is My Soulmate"

First off to the quote from above...

Have you already trained with Arona in your return?

I have been training again, we talk a lot. He is my soul mate, think as I think, has the same principle of honor and justice, defend the Jiu-Jitsu, lover of nature and sports. I think he has everything to return and, in my opinion, is the number one at light heavyweight, he just needs to work hard that he has no opponent in that category.

How do you think Arona would be at the UFC now?

Arona has lots of quality and a sensational star, is one of the bravest guys I know, is the stronger guy of the category and is from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is the guy who won Fedor, so there are no comments for him. He is more mature, with 30 years old, working hard in silence.

He talks alot of other things along with his love for Arona.  How he thinks the cut will effect Wand.  Damien Maia teaching Sonnen Jiu Jitsu is the most complete martial art and his return to the ring which will not be with Bellator.

Bloody Elbow Antonio Silva is Still Bigfoot - No Truth to Amputation Rumor

From Fighters Only

Rumours emerged yesterday evening that Silva had been injured and lost a foot in a crash.(an earlier version of the rumour said it was one of the Nogueira brothers).

Brazil-based Edu Ramos - who writes for Fighters Only and also operates leading Brazilian MMA news portal Brasil Combate - contacted several sources last night to determine if there was any truth to the rumour.

American Top Team spokesman Richie Guerriero said he had the rumour but could confirm that is “100 per cent untrue”.

You can tell its from F.O. because they spell rumors - rumours.  Good thing Firefox knows those crazy Brits don't know how to spell and told me so.

In other news.  Good for Bigfoot that woulda been really shitty losing a limb.

Bloody Elbow Zelg Galesic likely out of DREAM 8

Croatian striking star Zelg Galesic will likely be forced to miss his DREAM 8 bout against Andrews Nakahara after his pre-fight blood work caused him to fail his medical. Index.hr is reporting that Galesic was on a strict diet to lose some extra weight before the fight and that the poor blood test results were likely due to overtraining and exhaustion.

According to the report, Galesic has been admitted to a hospital and will remain there for up to a week, though that is unconfirmed at this point. Galesic's last bout took place in September of 2008 when he lost to Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in the DREAM Middleweight Grand Prix semifinals. He competed recently in a tae kwon do tournament in Croatia and suffered a broken leg during his fight, leading to a three-month layoff.

Brought to you by Nokaut

Well thats pretty shitty.  Nakahara vs Zelg was probably gonna be a good mid card fight.  Anybody got any ideas for a replacement assuming Zelg isn't able to compete??

Mayweather_mediumAffliction is talking July 11th to go head-to-head with Zuffa. According to another poster on here, Money Mayweather has announced that July 11th would be his comeback date. Golden Boy has made NO secret they are trying to make a fight for Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Mayweather.

What does it equal? Maybe and just possibly, based on pure speculation, it equals what Affliction and Golden Boy have been working on all along.

Saving boxing by getting it back on network TV, piggybacking on the back of an MMA show.

Golden Boy Promotions + Affliction Entertainment present a night of Boxing and MMA action in association with Mayweather Promotions.

Juan Manuel Marquez vs Floyd Mayweather.

Will it happen? Probably not. Could it happen, and could it overshadow UFC 100? Maybe just... MAYBE.

[UPDATE] ESPN.com is carrying the story about Mayweather returning to the ring July 11th on HBO, though there is issue with that date as it's also been proposed as the night of Bernard Hopkins vs. Tomasz Adamek. It would be a little far-fetched... But if terms could be agreed upon, you could truly do the first crossover megacard and put both sports back in the limelight instantly. There is so much potentially going on that night... That this is either a bluff by Affliction or something huge is in the works.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., who hasn't fought since December 2007 and retired as the undefeated pound-for-pound king in June, is planning to fight again -- possibly as soon as July 11 -- two sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com.

. . .

Mayweather has been working out regularly in his Las Vegas gym, sparring and is in great shape, according to one of the sources.

Before Mayweather fights one of the big names, both sources said Mayweather's team has talked to HBO about the availability of July 11, the network's date for that month's edition of "World Championship Boxing."

Bloody Elbow Manslaughter and DUI charges brought against other driver in Mask's death

You can read the whole article on shitfrog

Shitfrog article

brought to you by Loretta Hunt

The man arrested on Wednesday in connection with the death of “Tapout” founder Charles “Mask” Lewis Jr., has been formally charged with vehicular manslaughter after a brutal crash left the clothing company entrepreneur’s Ferrari ripped in half by a cement pole in Newport Beach, Calif.

Jeffrey D. Kirby, 51, of Costa Mesa, Calif., has been charged with “one felony count of vehicular manslaughter by unlawful act with gross negligence while intoxicated, one felony count of driving under the influence causing bodily injury, and sentencing enhancements for fleeing the scene of a vehicular manslaughter and causing great bodily injury to multiple victims,” according to a press release from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Kirby, who has a prior 2002 conviction for driving under the influence, faces a maximum sentence of 19 years and eight months if convicted.

Kirby is being held on $2 million bail and will be arraigned on Friday afternoon at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach, Calif.

Aside from the fact that he killed a guy driving drunk, this dude sounds like a complete douchebag.  Apparently while being pulled over for his first DUI he told the arresting officer that "his father was an ex cop and had told him to never agree to a sobriety test" and also told the officer (heres the real douchey capper) - "You shouldn't be picking on people with money."  Hope you can use that to buy yourself a great lawyer you're gonna be a meat treat in the pen buddy.

Bloody Elbow MMAWeekly reports Aoki vs Sakurai for WWGP

Dream appears ready to kick off its first Welterweight Grand Prix in a big way, pitting No. 1 ranked lightweight Shinya Aoki – who has several past welterweight bouts to his credit – against former Top 10 ranked Hayato "Mach" Sakurai. MMAWeekly.com sources confirmed the planned bout on Friday

The bout is the first known match-up of the opening round of the tournament and should be a popular choice for the fans in Japan. Both fighters are popular, successful fighters with strong followings in their home country.

At first glance I would say this doesn't make sense to put 2 of the favorites in an opening round bout with each other.  But when you consider that Aoki wants to fight on every card and he has the 155 title it makes alot more sense.  If he loses no big deal he still has fights with Hansen, Kawajiri, JZ, Ishida and the Strikeforce LW's if they decide to pay a visit.  If he wins its honestly a bigger issue because what do you do with Sakurai who can't make 155 and is too small to fight at 185?

Bloody Elbow Dana to Coker: All's Fair in Love and Ultimate Fighting - We're Counter-Programming You

The UFC calender from their website

April 11th - A full day of UFC primetime - TUF - and UFC unleashed leading into UFC 94

Looks like all that talk about admiration for Coker and his business model  went out the window real fast.  Strikeforce has a chance to make a splash and introduce fans to a national broadcast level organization which could tempt a few hard earned dollars out of their pockets... Now suddenly they are a threat which is better eliminated.

At least UFC 94 was pretty much horrible.  I might turn on my DVR long enough to get the beauty of Machida wrecking Thiago but thats about it.  WAR FRANK SHAMROCK WHUP DIAZ LIKE A 2BIT STREET PUNK.
