Niners Nation How long will it take to turn the franchise around and how would you do it?

This is the million dollar question.

The more and more I think about it, it is FOOLISH in my opinion, to think this team will be turned around in 1 year or even 2.

The reality is a new HC, new OC, new DC, pretty much the entire staff means it will take some time to turn this thing around. This is a MAJOR revamp which will take time to change things.

There are way too many needs that need to be met of which I see the need for the following:

2 new corners

1 safety

1 or 2 OLB

1 NT and DE

1WR

1 QB

1OL

This is about half the roster that needs to be replaced, and not only replaced, but time to develop, which would be 3 years through the draft, to get player personnel to fit the new offensive and defensive schemes.

I would consider trading Frank Gore also. He is a stud RB, but by the time this team will be able to compete, I think he will be about done.

I would also listen to trades offers, in exchange for draft picks for everybody accept 4 of the 5 OL, Crabtree, Davis, Justin Smith, and P Willis.

This might seem radical, and most people think this team is closer to success than it really is. I know this assessment stings, and stings a lot, but I would rather have it take 3 more years of the team going the right way than to put bandages on a gushing wound and obtain just moderate success.

What do you think?

Niners Nation Don't look now............ but Alex Smith is in the mix

Fooch's Note: Doing what I should have done long ago and closing the comments. We have an Alex Smith-related post coming from Drew tomorrow morning, so if this discussion continues there or anywhere else I'll be deleting comments. Time to behave yourselves.

according to Yahoo sports Jimmy Harbaugh has been meeting with and talking to

Alex.

I think he is coming to realize that Smith maybe the best option, in the short term, and possibly the long term.

The reality is this might be the best fit afterall. The tools Smithd. has, or he never would've been chosen #1 to begin with.

The problem came from 6 OC, 6 offenses in 6 years. The 2 best OC are now head coaches, including the winning superbowl coach.

A true X's and O guy with some patience maybe just what the doctor ordered.

I am sure most of you hate this idea, but I don't.

There is NO WAY I want to waste a 1st rd. draft pick on a QB.

What do you think?

Niners Nation The Superbowl Festa, Brooklyn style

Superbowl Festa consists of the following antipasta: hot and sweet soppresatta, Genoa salami, fresh muzzarell, provelone, kalamata olives, proscuitto rice balls, potatoe salad, fresh Italian bread.

Main course: the homemade ragu consisting of San Marzano tomatoes, homemade meatballs, Italian sausage, pork braciole topped with Parmigiano-Reggiano.

A little Veno and we are set.

That is NYC style, no vegan dishes out here. I remember when I lived in the bay I couldn't even get a decent slice of pizza, although you have some amazing Mexican.

Niners Nation This season has been about as pleasant as a fart in the face..........

Oh where oh where are all the fools drinking the kool aid that were calling for records as high as 13-3 at the beginning of the year?

Needless to say this group of people is no where to be found. However this isn't the only group that has seemed to disappeared, as there are many.

I want to know where all these people have gone that said the Niner pass rush was excellent, even though not 1 person had more than 6.5 sacks and has disappeared this year?

I want to know where the people went that said Nate Clements is a good to great corner, who is NO WHERE CLOSE TO BEING A SHUTDOWN CORNER, but makes that type of $, have gone?

I want to know where all the Sing supporters have gone, when I said he was nothing more than a good motivator with no coaching experience and has been exposed as even less than that with all the penalties the team has committed and the team has lost so many close games to poor play calling and decisions?

I was picked on, and called a fool for disagreeing with the vast majority of the people here on everyone of these things and more, especially when I called them for a record of 8-8 at the beginning of the year which in itself seems like a bit lofty now.

Again I ask, where have all these people gone? South for the winter like the birds back east?

You had the balls to talk your crap before, now stand up and talk it now.

Niners Nation Where on the internet is the game being shown?

The game will not be broadcast on TV in New York City.

I want to know if anyone knows where I can watch the game online.

Niners Nation Mc Boo Foo - its your time to shine or go

As everyone knows-I have been calling for this guy's head for the last 2 years.

He has CONSISTENTLY ignored the need on the Oline and still lacks a pass rusher with more than 6 sacks. This type of moronic behavior is the main reason why the team missed the playoffs this year.

Additionally, the draft picks the team has taken have been less than stellar. Here are the first 4 rounds of the draft for the last four years. Great GM's get about 4 starters a year out of the draft.

2009 Crabtree, Coffee

2008 Balmer, Rachel, Reggie Smith, Cody Wallace

2007 Willis, Staley, Jason Hill, Ray McDonald, Jay Moore

2006 Vernon Davis, Manny Lawson, Brandon Williams

As you can see we currently have 6 starters and Moore who plays 3rd down. This is not sufficient to keep things moving in the right direction.

Here are a few other questionable moves:

Baas was a 2nd round pick 5 years ago who is another 1 that hasn’t fulfilled his potential.

Coffee was a 3rd round pick last year and is so good they are talking about drafting another RB with an early round pick.

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE??

Mc Boo Foo needs to get his act together or head out the door. He has NO EXCUSE to not address the MAJOR needs of Oline, Corner, Pass Rusher, Safety, and punt returner in this draft. Its time he starts hitting on more than 2 picks a year on average.

Niners Nation Niners Officially elminated from playoff-just as I called in March

People seemed to have rose colored glasses on at the beginning of the year and into much of the season, hoping for one thing and allowing that hope to cloud their judgment about what was realistic.

I called this team for 6-10 or 7-9 at the beginning of the year-and I am sure I wont miss by much.

The reason why I thought this record would correct was:

Things I knew at the beginning of the year:

1) Lack of a solid QB-which Smith may yet become. I never threw him under the bus like most-understanding the injuries and a new offense to learn every year took its toll. He deserves a couple more years in the offense, which will be painful, but necessary.

2) Lack of a solid O line-specifically at right tackle. You can think Mc Boo Foo for this one. He has chosen to ignore this need for years and it has come back to bite him time after time. The draft picks the team has made on the Oline have been high, most within the top 3 rounds (Staley, Baas, Rachel). These picks haven’t filled their potential and the team has suffered accordingly. Maybe they should've paid Smiley instead of letting him go. This is just another example of Mc Boo Foo dropping the ball.

3) Lack of a strong pass rusher. This was another need, which Mc Boo Foo failed to address in the draft. There is NOT 1 PLAYER that has more than 5.5 sacks on the team, or there are 41 other players that have more sacks than Lawson the top sack guy. That's pathetic when there are only 32 teams in the league. This lack of consistent pressure makes the secondary work harder than it has to, making players like Clements look mediocre.

Things I learned along as the season went on:

4) Balmer being drafted in the 1st round last year. This guy is quickly falling into the category of bust. I see guys like Desean Jackson who they passed on, who is lighting up the league and drafted 20 spots after Balmer. Caliais Campbell drafted 21 spots after Balmer also appears to be a much better pick. This is just further proof that Mc Boo Foo needs to go-he is a major reason for the team not drafting the right players.

5) Offensive play calling has been TERRIBLE. All we heard about was the Niners running the ball 60% of the time at the beginning of the year and Gore being the "cowbell." The team was going to play clock mgmt and strong defense, and THE SEASON WON'T IN DECEMEBER. What the hell happened along the way? I'll tell you- Jimmy Raye doesn't know his $%^ from a hole in the ground. The play calling has cost them at LEAST 3 games and is showing no signs of improvement.

I could continue on, but I think I have made my point. This season is over and I WISH the Niners lose their next 2 games to get a better draft position since they are already eliminated from the playoffs.

The future of this franchise will be determined on how well they address these issues.

Any thoughts??

Niners Nation Still think they Niners will make the playoffs??? Repeat post

At the beginning of the year I called this team to go 6-10 or 7-9.

I think they will now end up as good as 8-8, due to the weak schedule vs. the Lions and the Rams.

The question is does anyone out there think they can pass the Cardinals as its very likely that only 1 NFC West team will make the playoffs.

The failure of Mc Boo Foo to consistently ignore concerns via the draft for a right tackle and pass rusher has been detrimental to say the least. Couple this with the injuries to Staley and Clements and I just don't see this team making the playoffs.

I just hope the Panthers continue to cooperate and the Niners go worse than 8-8 this year and use the draft properly as a way to build the team for the years going forward. The team has shown signs of improvement and there is no shame in not making the playoffs-especially with it most likely resulting in a 1st rd exit and a lower draft pick.

Think about it.

Cat Scratch Reader Niner fans are loving this amazing start

It's a known fact the Niners wasted a pick on Crabtree and multiple teams are probabbly tampering with him. The reality is this was probably a waste of a 1st round sraft pick.

That being said I am feeling damn good about the Niners getting your 1st round pick as it continues to climb by the week. Hell, if they can get another top 10 draft pick-which is what it would be based on Panthers performance, it would help cushion the blow of the Crabtree blunder.

Keep up the good work and GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Niners Nation Let us all stand up and thank the skillful Mc Boo Foo for drafting Crabtree and the stellar job he has done negotiating with him

An NFC G.M. said the Niners simply should have known better given Crabtree's diva act leading up to the draft and the history of contentious negotiations in which his agent, Eugene Parker, has been involved.

"Part of the art of the draft is making sure you pick the right guy," the unnamed G.M. insisted.  "You owe it to the owner and the organization to pick the right guy in the right situation. . . .  Just because he's the best player on the board at the time you pick, you can't just throw caution to the wind and say, 'Well, we'll be the one to change him.'"

Bolts From The Blue LT Fantasy Owner Wondering What is Going On

Hey guys,

Does anyone know why LT was sitting on the side lines in the final few drives of the game vs. the Raiders?? Is it because he was hurt, or is he just not the guy that they want in there anymore?

Also why wasn't he in on the goal line carries on the final drive??

I am really starting to wonder if I made a mistake taking him with the 7th pick in the 1st round.

Cat Scratch Reader Niner Fan with a few questions

Hey guys,

I am looking at my Niners in the preseason at even though the record is 3-0, I see major weaknesses in the team, many of which have been addressed by the coach in press conferences.

A major glaring weakness is the Niners lack of pass rush. I personally feel Everette Brown should be a Niner and it was foolish to trade that pick to you, especially at a bargain basement price compared to what similar trades went through last year.

My 2 questions are:

1) How well do you think Brown is doing so far? From what I have seen the kid has rung up a few sacks and already making impact.

2) What is the projected record of the Panthers this year?? I obviously want you to lose a ton of games, but I am trying to get a better feel for about where the Niners will be picking in the 1st round with your draft pick next year. I think the Panthers have a real good chance of making the playoffs, something I wish I could say about my Niners.

What are your thoughts????

Niners Nation It's time to replace the GM (Mc BOO FOO) and his ignorant choices

I have been calling to upgrade the O line and Pass Rush positions in the draft since February and calling for his head ever since he didn't address those critical needs.

Well it appears the chickens have come home to roost.

Mc boo foo decided he didn't need to address the 2 biggest positions of need in the draft, which he could have done with at least the 2nd round pick.

Instead he decided to trade away the 2nd and 4th pick which could've addressed these issues. He rolled the dice and brought in an injured and over the hill band-aid to put on a gushing wound. Unfortunately, we all saw how well that went.

Now the team will face defenses keying on the weak RT all year long and the opposing QB will have enough time to bake a cake before throwing the ball, as has been the case all pre season. Needless to say the lack of action to fix this issue will negate to some extent how effective Clements (the multi million $ corner) will be.

WELL DONE Mc BOO FOO, YOUR GAMBLED FAILED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Niners Nation Over/Under on Niners wins this year- I call 6.5 wins

This situation is very scary after looking at the schedule again last night. I have watched every preseason game to date and my opinions have changed. The AFC south is VERY tough as is the NFC north with the additions of Cutler and Favre and a Green Bay team I think could win it all.

The 1st 5 games look pretty tough. I can see the Niners winning 1 for sure (STL), maybe 2 (maybe SEA or ARI) but no more.

The next set of 5 I can see no more than 2 wins TOPS, but I am thinking zero or 1. In my opinion this is the toughest part of the entire schedule. There are no creme puffs in this group

The last 6 I can see things get much easier. I can see 3 or 4 wins being likely. However, I don't see ANYWAY this team will make the playoffs with this schedule.

I AM CALLING FOR 6 WINS AND IF THINGS WORK OUT 7.

I do think the team is better than least year even though it won't be reflected in the record do to the vicious schedule.

What are your thoughts???

Niners Nation 2 thoughts...............

1st is if everyone thought the Niner secondary was about as poor as could be with the exception of the turnovers.

Orton looked like Elway slicing up the secondary until he eventually crapped all over himself.

2nd, I was wondering what is going on the Blamer-u know last years #1 draft pick?

I maybe mistaken but I didn't see much from him on Sunday.

Please correct me where I'm wrong ok ok?

Niners Nation Sing comments on the draft debacle...........

--Coach Mike Singletary admitted he did not want to trade out of the second round. The 49ers owned the No. 43 pick, but general manager Scot McCloughan decided to send that pick and a fourth-rounder to the Carolina Panthers for their first-round selection in 2010.

I am glad to see someone sees this for what it is. That's pretty damn bad when the coach calls out the GM.

So what do the die hard fans think of this???

Niners Nation Alex Smith gets ZERO respect

This situation wasn't his fault.

You say the kid sucks but he got fed to the wolves from day 1 as a rookie.

You say the kid sucks but he had a new OC and offense to learn every year.

You say the kid sucks but he was surrounded by an OLINE that hasnt been worth a crap since Hearst was running the ball.

You say the kid sucks but he had NOBODY to throw ball to since he's been there.

You say the kid sucks but instead of having his coach support him when he had a fricken level 3 shoulder seperation, the coach questioned his toughness.

Any moron can see they never gave this kid the opportunity to succeed-and that's supposed to be his fault?? No-its piss poor management and coaching.

THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Niners Nation Building this team the right way!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey,

It’s always fun to listen to different people’s ideas.

The reality is this team has A TON of holes to fill. It can be argued they need a new safety (replace Roman), a corner (to take old ass Walt Harris spot), an OLB that can bring some heat, and more help on the DL -that’s the defense. Throw in a QB, WR, OL/OT and back up RB help.

This team is a work in progress and I think will be lucky to go 8-8.

If I was playing GM, I would build from the inside out-as bad as this team is-it will be a 2 or 3 year turn around process as is and your fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

I would take an OT and DE/OLB in the 1st two rounds and get the best player on the board at each spot.
I would the address other issues like FS, CB, WR (mgmt has shown they have a good eye to find talented receivers late in the draft). It would be nice if Balmer, Reggie Smith and Goldson come around.

Until the QB and RB get a solid O line it doesn’t matter who is the QB or WR. The defense will improve a lot when the opposing qb doesn’t have 5 seconds to throw the ball anymore because we get an OLB to bring the heat.

If you can grab a Cutler great-if not get Jeff Garcia-he might be old, but he has passion, is a great leader, and can scramble which is needed with the current state of the Oline. Sign him to a 2-year deal, giving Alex Smith 2 years to learn the system. Alex Smith has been a victim of circumstance and nobody will know his true value until he is in the same offense for a few years-just like Aaron Rodgers.

This will be a nice continuation of getting this team turned around. Continue to build a solid defense and oline 1st and then worry about the “skilled positions.” Will these mean more losses in the short term? Yes. However, in the long run it will pay big dividends.
