No Vin Scully for the M's-Dodgers series (June 8 - 10)

11

"Scully, 84, now will call road games within California (San Diego, San Francisco and a June interleague series at Oakland) and at Arizona. The reduction means he no longer will travel to Colorado and won't call an interleague series at Seattle in June."

Halman Shirts -- a Tribute from Mike Carp

1

"When Mariners players arrived at their clubhouse Saturday for the start of Spring Training, each was greeted by a Greg Halman shirt hanging in his locker as a tribute to the teammate who was killed in November in his native Holland. The shirts were purchased by Mariners outfielder Mike Carp, a close friend of Halman's from their days coming up in the Minor Leagues together. " There's more; Mike Carp put a lot of thought into this (and Halman's family appreciated it). Definitely worth a read.

Love this shot. I know it's nothing to do with the M's, but still. (Mike Stanton of the Fish if you care, from this story.) But hey, I'm sure Nike is pleased.

More on "Ichiro's Bleacheros"

4

In case you were wondering, Yahoo's "Big League Stew" has the follow-up: Their group is called "Ichiro's Bleacheros." Genius! The team with the most creative marketing team in the majors — at least in terms of TV commercials — apparently has fans with great ideas, too. (kudos to the guy who's been coming to game since the Pilots!) Perhaps the "Milton Monday" fan club will be the next to attract attention?
