Mile High Report A rant from inside - fair weather...

First off it became quite a cold one out there yesterday.  It was a great game to be at but I am whole-heartedly sick of fair-weather fans, I would sooner watch our team at home against the Steelers with 95% of the fans being for the Steelers than have to go through the bull**** that is taking place at Invesco right now.

As a side note before I get into the game I will say that the St. Louis fans in my section were absolute a*holes.  I have no qualms with a random fan cheering on his team when he gets a chance to see them but it's a whole different story when you start to make rude and vulgar comments.  It was fun to cheer in his face when his team was in the process of blowing a giant lead that he was bragging about being too much.  He nearly cried when the refs through the flag at the end for the PI, too bad KO was in motion?!???

Just a rant.

His interview doesn't make you respect him any more... In the comments below somebody is very loosely trying to defend Bryant by saying that he needs a good mentor like Chris Carter was for Moss, how well has that worked out for Marshall??? It's not like the master of humble Rod Smith could make Marshall any less of an off field nightmare. When you're cursed with issues off the field I think it's over until you prove it's not and good luck getting that opportunity in the Draft. If we pick him I pray that McD can nail it into his skull very early on that he's a good boy or he's gone. I'm a fan so I have to stick by what the team does but just like oh lets say 99.99999% of Eagles fans right now I wouldn't be happy until the outcome proved fruitful.

I know I just ramble incoherently when I post, but in summation, Dez is a liability, he talks the talk as this article shows, but so does Marshall, is the talent pool available at #11 worth the risk? I don't know but regardless of how mad I am about the choice if it would occur I am a fan til the end.

Mile High Report Just a quick thought about Pouncey

I guess I've just been curious with all of the talk around MHR about the idea of trading back in the draft to obtain more picks and then snagging Pouncey, what is the verdict on a center who snapped the ball to a QB who was considered not NFL ready because he didn't take snaps under center?

Is it a concern as an organization to draft a center who hasn't snapped a ball to a QB who sits under center for all of his college days?

I'm not speaking out against Pouncey at all, especially because I think if we draft him that means we should hopefully have more than 6 picks come draft day, I'm just asking a question to the MHR elite, is this really a concern or is it easier for a center to break his shotgun habits than a QB?

And since I've never 'officially' taken a swim in the Kool-Aid I'll give it a shot right now:

13-3 BABY!!  Until otherwise...

Mile High Report Bring on Eric Decker

This guy is the reincarnate of Eddie Mac, except Eddie's not dead...  This guy WAS the Gophers entire offense, he's an absolute beast he is used to being succesful despite almost exclusively being double-teamed he is an absolute team first player who gives 110% effort and is ridiculously football smart.  I'm not sure where he'll fall too or rise to in the draft due to his foot injury, but this guy is a solid receiver with great size and on top of that he is a carbon-copy of exactly what McDaniels looks for in a person/player.  I would be dissapointed if we are in a position to get him and don't.  He will possibly slip off the board in the late second or early third.

Eric Decker

6'3"

225 lbs

Due to his injury his only listed combine and pro-day numbers are his bench press which was 15 and 19 respectively.  That's a pretty damn strong kid it puts him in the top for receivers at this category.

I like him and would love to see him on our team, I think he may come at a point where he wouldn't cost us too much.  Plus I like the idea of drafting somebody you know wants to get out there and work, not just get noticed and get paid...  Oh yeah and did I mention that he's possibly the best run blocking receiver in this years draft.

Mile High Report McNabb, Tomlinson and Peppers

This is just some regurgitated crap heard from the Mr. Mackey of the NFL, John Clayton, and then shot through the Denver radio waves...  This is local radio jibber jabber here in the Denver area but there is heavy speculation that Denver is a little bit more than interested in the three listed in the headline.  They think that LT would be happy to be here so he could shove a fist up the collective hind sides of charger land, and that they believe that Peppers would make a top notch OLB/DE in our D scheme.  Of course the McNabb thing has already been whispered around and I think that we would be better off to pursue a different QB by other means.

The final whisper on the radio waves here was from a local area draft expert who scouts talent and believes that Denver should chase a QB out of the MAC, where so many clutch QB's in this day and age reign from, he had specifically in mind CMU's Dan LeFevour.  This guy is good, has a few minor mechanical issues that have his stock slightly lower, but in the experts opinions he is fixable and moldable into a top NFL QB.

I don't know what any of you think about these scenarios but I think that it would be another unprecendented off-season of unreal talent acquisitions.  I'm really on board with LT for the whole angle of a mentor for Knowshon, LT knows how to be exactly what McDaniels dreams to have in the RB position, we could have Hall of Fame player/coaches at every position...

Mile High Report Getting to Know "Al Davis" The Oakland Raiders at a Glance

I am also new to analysis of any other team than the Broncos, especially not analysis of the bitter rival Oakland Raiders.

Disco_Stu on MHR summed up the Raiders of season as follows:

“They demonstrated confidence in last year’s WR signings by drafting a completely UN-polished track star with the #7 pick.

They demonstrated confidence in their Quarterback of the Future™ by signing Jeff Garcia.

They demonstrated confidence in the coaches and front office by keeping a yes-man in at HC while Al keeps making his “picks”

So, yeah. Good offseason. The end. :o)”

Lane Kiffin, the youngest head coach in NFL history, was released midway through the season last year to make room for the interim and soon to be full time HC Tom Cable.  I honestly believe that Jesus himself could coach the Raiders and would get fired by Al Davis, the man is senile and uses the HC’s as puppets and scapegoats for his senility.  Of course said senility keeps a weak opponent in our division.

In The News

Darrius Heyward-Bey

He is the talk of the town, and rightfully so.  In so many MSM opinions his drafting was a huge reach.  We signed all of our first day picks combined for less than what he will make this year, and he may never perform better than an underutilized or over-forced 2nd receiver.  I won’t go on record saying Hey-Bey will fail but the odds are stacked against him, he lacks the talent and skill set necessary to be a #1 NFL receiver.  He may very well be running down the sidelines routinely against the Broncos but unless he’s breaking one a game he will not justify his early selection.  Watch this youtube video and try not to wet your pants…  from 1:00 to about 1:20 or so.  Even fans are leery

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMT4JheSte0

Doesn’t Michael Crabtree look a little too ecstatic that he wasn’t drafted at #7?  And his father??  Was that a sigh of relief?...

Michael Mitchell

Old Al Davis sure made an impression on the first day of the draft!  This guy SHOULD make an impact during his NFL career, but most scouting agencies and teams had him listed as a 7th rounder, so pray tell did Oakland draft him mid 2nd?  Mel Kiper of ESPN had Mitchell rated between 40th and 70th best available safety, Mike Mayock of NFL network had this to say while watching the Raiders selection:  "The Ohio University safety?!? I had never heard of Mike Mitchell before three weeks ago when he ran a good time at his pro day."  This could be another situation where Al Davis drafted with speed as a top priority; he posted a 4.39 by some and a 4.43 by others at his pro day.

Mini Camp

The Top 3 draft picks for the Raiders in their first ever mini-camp sat out the last days of camp with various injuries, such as sore hamstrings and cramps.  Hey-Bey looked good at first catching all balls and showcasing his speed, he then fell into the category that all Raider hopefuls were praying was a lie, he developed lead hands dropping three straight balls.  Keep in mind however this is only May and drops don’t matter now, unless he continues to drop, which would only affect his position on the depth chart.  Mitchell showed great speed on the field and was scolded by coaches for contact with a receiver, this kid is hungry for some big hits and he’s hoping he can prove the media wrong.  Being a Broncos fan I hope that the media is right. J  Slade Norris pushed Ricky Brown, last year’s starting SLB, to the 2nd team defense as a MLB.  The Raiders have to see a ton of potential in this kid pushing last year’s starter to a different position in a back-up role.

In order to know where the Raiders are headed this year we need to take a look at the moves that they have made so far this off season.

Most notably are their moves at the QB position, they are either trying to make sure they are deep at back-up positions or they are losing faith in JaMarcus, they have inked 3 QB’s this offseason.  Also the re-signing of Shane Lechler, the monster punter, and Nnamdi Assomugha, best CB in the business, who were both reportedly disgruntled and ready to leave, they were given huge contracts and are now helping to anchor some pretty key roles on this roster.
