Mile High Report What is going on with Ryan Harris?

As the title clearly states, what is going on with Ryan Harris? Is he still injured? is he just a healthy scratch right now? Will he see the field at all this year?

Our O line has been a serious issue this year and I think stability is the key for the line. I want the future of the O line playing together as much as possible but the situation at right tackle is a bit of a mess. I am just curious if there is some injury that I am unaware of that is keeping Harris out or if McDaniels just sees Beadles as the better option at RT? And if so, does that change the plan for Beadles long term? Is he now seen as the long term solution at right tackle or is it still the plan for him to be a guard in the future? And maybe someone with a little more football knowledge about O Line play could tell me how Beadles has done at RT so far. Those are just some questions that have been eating away at me for the last week that maybe someone out there has the answers to.

Mile High Report Civil War Courtesy

I will keep this short and simple, I am not going to weigh in on what I think should happen with regards to the future of this team both on and off the field in this post (I want to digest this loss for a little bit before i go off with knee jerk reactions saying "Person X sucks"). I just want to post this as a reminder that we all bleed orange and blue. We all want the same thing, everyone here wants to see the Broncos succeed and everyone here has their own road map of how this team should get there and when they don't feel that the team is taking the right direction it is beyond frustrating to watch as the team that we all love loses its way and they saw it coming. We are all Broncos fans and no one should be ridiculed for how they believe the team should go about succeeding. Losses are tough to swallow. Losses to the Raiders are even tougher to swallow. Blowout losses at home to the Raiders is like swallowing shards of glass, but lets remember that what drives this community is a love for the Broncos and we should all remember that key fact as we disagree and argue on how this team should try and succeed as I'm sure we will with great enthusiasm over the next couple of days. And I truly hope there is disagreement. Arguments generate ideas and from ideas comes knowledge, and that is why we are all here isn't it, to become more knowledgeable Broncos fans (I know that's why I am here). This place would be boring as hell if everyone agreed with one another. So as we disagree and argue about the teams past, present and future lets keep in mind that we are all Broncos fans. I have already seen many fanposts and comments from Broncos fans with statements of "I told you so" and similar statements. Putting down other Broncos fans for their beliefs really shouldn't have a home at MHR (the greatest Broncos site on the internet) no matter what you believe for the Broncos. Disagreement with others is one thing but discouraging people from sharing their opinions on the Broncos will only lead to the downfall of Broncos Nation. And both "sides" are guilty of doing this. I don't want to single out one "side" of the argument for being discouraging because both have done it. I went back to look at a few posts criticizing McDaniels and while most people in the comments were courteous and offered constructive criticism some fans were rude to the authors leaving nothing more than a childish taunt for a comment. The same can be said for posts in the past praising McDaniels and comments left by those who disagree with the authors. If you have an opinion, please share it because I love reading anything about the Broncos and I read every fanpost and as many comments as I can but please keep in mind that we are all Broncos fans with a common passion and goal and discouraging others from sharing their opinions with comments like "I told you so" or "Where all the McD boot lickers now" aren't needed here, IMO.

Now the question I pose to you, who would you rather face, Gradkowski or Campbell? Tougher question than you think. I have tried to pick but have been having difficulties, both are very inept. What say you?

Mile High Report Pregame/Premature Mock

With another week of college football behind us, I decided to throw together a very premature mock draft for some of those out there like myself that are draft crazy 24/7. Yes it is obviously much to early for any kind of mocks with it being only week 6 of the season, and much can change both with the Broncos and the college prospects, but like the junkies in the alleyway I really need my fix and my insomnia has me up anyway so why not.

Mile High Report Git-r-Done

After our week 1 loss to the Jags, people are looking at the 15 games remaining and trying to piece together 9-11 wins that we will need for us to make the playoffs. People look at the upcoming schedule of Colts, Titans, Ravens, Jets and think that if we can go 2-2 then we have a shot. Now I'm not going to say that this is impossible; I am as big an optimist as you will find and I think we could very well beat all of those teams, but what I want to see the Broncos do even more than go 2-2 against those guys is I want to see the Broncos git-r-done. What I mean by that is I want to see us win the games we should against the teams we know we should beat.

Bluebird Banter Toronto Blue Jays trading chips: Positional players

With the baseball season halfway done and the Toronto Blue Jays sitting at an impressive .500 considering we traded our best player and our two best hitters from last year are both hovering around the Mendoza line. However impressive that .500 record may be considering what was being predicted it is still not playoff worthy and with this team rebuilding and the trade deadline a month away lets go through the Jays roster and see what kind of trading chips we will bring to the table. I will break it down by position and give each player a grade out of 10 based on trade value. Factors will be age, health, salary, current season, and overall career numbers. I also gave a proposed trade for the players who I think might be moved this deadline. Today I will look at the Jays positional players.

Mile High Report Why Tebow would be a poor choice.

If we were to choose Tebow with whatever pick it might be, we would be making a mistake. Not a mistake that would put us back 3 years but a mistake none the less. I don't really buy into the "Tebow should go to a contending team where he can watch and learn" school of thought. I think an up and coming team with a QB hole could take him. We have three QBs right now. Orton who is a good not great player. Quinn who hopefully can become the great player everyone thought he could be. And brandstater who is still being developed and we have heard positive feedback about. So while I don't think a contending team has to take him I think we have some much bigger holes that need filling. Lets face it, we are not in the late 90's anymore. We haven't been a serious threat since 2005. We haven't even made the playoffs in 4 years and lets face it we are in an easy division with KC and Oakland. The kool aid needs to be taken down a notch and I am usually the biggest optimist. I really like McDaniels. I think he has the smarts and the passion to win big here in Denver. My favorite moment was him fist pumping down the field and the hugging with Kenny Peterson. But we still finished 8-8 and have been a mediocre team for four years. We have holes at ILB, WR, C, G, we are very old at CB, NT, DE, S. We can't be throwing away picks for a developmental QB. Yes he could be a very good QB one day but so could Brady Quinn or Brandstater or even other guys in the draft like McCoy, Clausen, Pike, Lefevour.  All QB's have potential. The Denver Broncos aren't in a state where they can risk a pick on potential. Believe me i wish they were.

Mile High Report McClain Slipping

I was reading Mel Kipers big board on ESPN and he had McClain at 19 overall. At one time earlier in the year he was at 9th. Notable players ahead of him were Pouncey at 18, Graham at 14, Dan Williams at 11, Earl Thomas at 10. It just goes to show you how much someone's stock can drop during this whole process. Thomas was a fringe top 20 pick and now he could be gone by our 11th pick. It just seems crazy to me how much a players stock can rise and fall over a period of time when they aren't even playing football. Just goes to show that the combine is still a valued measuring stick for players. Take a player like Brandon Spikes ILB who before the combine figured to be a early second round pick maybe fringe 1st rounder. then he runs a terrible 40 time and his stock plummets all the way to the 3rd round apparently. However he had 4 productive years leading one of the best defenses in the nation. Whoever does get Spikes will be getting a great player who plays a lot faster than his 40 time says. Anyway, I just thought it interesting that Pouncey was now ahead of McClain on the big board. Oh and Spoon was only two spots behind McClain at 21 in case you were curious. Today should be a great day!! I can't even focus on anything else right now.

Mile High Report Who would you hate to see?

The draft is a great time filled with optimism for the future. However sometimes a team can draft someone (Jarvis Moss) that really makes you scream at your television. There are guys who you know will not work out on the broncos and you have to wonder why he was drafted when you could've told em that it was a bad move. This is a post which asks who would you hate to see be drafted by the broncos? And i mean absolutely hate to see. Dez Bryant is someone who i wouldn't hate if we got him. He is very talented and his issues are more of the childish nature. He hasn't gotten arrested and his suspension was one of stupidity and trying to cover up for his mistakes. So i ask this question to all bronco fanatics, who would you HATE to see us draft come friday? Lets hope none of these come true!

Mile High Report PM Mock

This mock is really just an extension of a comment I left on Beserkers post which inspired me to write this Post Marshall Mock. Okay now I know that Scheffler is probably gone very soon but I don't think we can get a 3rd rounder. I think a fourth rounder is more plausible. But this draft will have no trading of him although it's likely. I think we all know how big of a draft this is for the Broncos. After trading away a superstar for picks, the broncos really need to get a lot of value out of this pick. So after the jump let's mock!

Okay now that Brandon Marshall has signed his tender what do you believe the chances are of him getting traded now? Mile High Report Holmes ripple effect

With Santonio Holmes being shipped to the Jets for a 5th round pick in this years draft I immediately thought of Brandon Marshall and more importantly his trade value. If a Superbowl mvp, #1 WR, 26 year old who had much less off field issues than our own B Marshall can be had for a 5th rounder than maybe teams like Seattle start to think they can have Marshall for a 4-7th round pick. Now there are reports that Holmes will be suspended for the first four games because of smoking pot and getting caught and the investigation is still on going about an incident at a night club where he allegedly threw a glass bottle at a woman and that is why is value might be a little down. However a man came out today and publicly refuted that story and admitted it was him who threw it. Also no one has confirmed he will miss the first four games due to a suspension. Compare that to Marshall's past and it looks like he's a saint.  Now i know you shouldn't base a trade on someone else's stupid trade but still this will certainly not help raise Marshall's value. The upcoming weeks should be very interesting around here.

Mile High Report Bronco Mock 3.3333

Less than a month away and draft mania is sweeping the blogosphere. So i figure why not do my part and post my Mock. This will just be a simple mock. No fancy pictures or wacky trades will be taking place in this. Until a trade is official mock drafting it is rather pointless. But then again so is my mock drafting, but it's such a good time killer at work. More after the jump.

Mile High Report Mock of Boredom

Well now that the Superbowl is done the next football event is none other than the 2010 NFL Draft. Optimism rides high for every fan for these next few months as they dream of a killer draft that resembles the 1974 Steelers draft where they landed four future hall of famers. Now I'm not that greedy but still now is the time where everyone has high hopes for the future of their team by hitting the motherload in the draft and thats why i do stupid/silly mock drafts. Anywho, this is just a draft I quickly threw together out of boredom. I know much of this is useless because we have no idea who we are going to sign in free agency but like I said I was bored and it's fun to mock and I need something to look forward to after that season end. So by all means mock away.

Mile High Report Mixed Signals?

"I'll put it like this: The way things have gone, I'd be surprised if he's back,"  - Champ Bailey

"But the next time Marshall and the Broncos go to work for each other, their business is expected to appear on the transaction wire". - Mike Klis, Denver Post

"I love the city of Denver, its where I started and its where I would like to finish."  - Brandon Marshall

Is it safe to assume that just about everyone in football assumes Brandon Marshall won't be back with the Broncos? You would think that it was guaranteed the way people are talking. The quotes above prove it. Even his own teammates think he's a goner. But it's important to remember that not once has Marshall come out and asked to be traded since his pre-season delinquent behavior. In fact he just said in the pro bowl that he would like to stay. Now just because he wants it doesn't mean he's going to get it because there's another side to this. That is Coach McDaniels. He doesn't want guys on his team that are me first players. These two have one of the oddest relationships I think I have ever seen. One second they hate each other, next they're fine, next they're hugging on the sidelines and next they hate each other. Right back where we started. Pat Bowlen said that if he performed then he would get paid. Marshall certainly performed and yet no one thinks they will re-sign him.

If you take out the last game of the season where Marshall was benched, then everything is sunshine between him and McD. But now over a pretty stupid argument about not being injured has derailed all chances of the Broncos keeping Marshall. I think its way to early to just assume we are going to trade him. It could happen. Both McD and Marshall seem pretty stubborn. But would it really hurt for us to re-sign a 100 catches per season WR who's in his fourth year? Maybe Marshall is just listening to the agent pulling the strings telling him to save his reputation as a team player and help his own cause to get traded. Who knows? Lets just not all assume he's going to be booted out of Denver just yet because would it be so terrible if we kept him?

Mile High Report With the 10th (or 11th) pick in the draft the Broncos select...

Thanks to Jay Cutler getting picked off every other pass, the Broncos have a very high draft selection this year and can go many different ways with how to use it. Here are some of the options.

Rolando McClain: A very smart football player who is very physical. Tremendous upside. Comparisons to Ray Lewis may be a stretch but he has that ability. Hard to imagine him as a bust. At worst he's an average ILB.

Dez Bryant: Great hands, good size and closing speed. Some say he's a better prospect than Crabtree was last year and he had an impressive rookie year (albeit rather short). projected to be a number 1 receiver. Could replace Marshall if he's traded.

Sam Bradford: It may be a stretch that he falls past the teams with QB issues like the Redskins, Seattle, Oakland and Buffalo but if he does would McDaniels be able to resist. Deadly accurate, underrated arm strength. Coming off a shoulder injury that kept him out for the season at OU.

Joe Haden: With Champ and Goodman not getting any younger at 32 each the Broncos could get their future CB. He was a shutdown at Florida and scouts say he might be able to do the same at the next level. And with Champ showing him the ropes we might just have another HOF on our hands.

Trade Down: There is always a team that wants to trade up and get "their guy". The Broncos could trade down to the late first round and use that pick on NT Dan Williams or OG Mike Iupati both of whom are favorites around MHR and who can argue they are both great players.

Tell me what your thoughts are in the comments and in the poll.

Mile High Report DOOMS DAY MOCK DRAFT

With the rumor swirling around that Miami is maybe possibly looking into considering getting Doom from the Broncos I thought I would throw out my own mock draft with the unlikely possibility of Doom heading to Miami in a trade (I’m aware of the corny title)

 Trades:

-       Brandon Marshall to Cincinnati for 1st round pick (#21) and 3rd round pick (#84)

-       Elvis Dumervil to Miami for 1st round pick (#12) and 3rd round pick (#73)

-       Tony Sheffler and Peyton Hillis to Washington for 4th round pick (#100) and 5th round pick (#131)

Draft Picks:

 1st round:

-       10th overall (from Chicago)

-       12th overall (from Miami)

-       21st overall (from Cincinnati)

 2nd round:

-       45th overall

3rd round:

 -       73rd overall (from Miami)

-       80th overall

-       84th overall (from Cincinnati)

4th round:

-       100th overall (from Washington)

-       111th pick overall

5th round:

-       131st overall (from Washington)

6th round:

-       173rd overall

7th round:

-       204th overall

The Draft:

First round 10th overall (from Chicago) the Broncos select: Rolando McClain ILB, Alabama

This guy I think is a must take if he is still here. If not then trade down and get Mike Iupati as suggested in another mock draft. After reading up on him I love this guys leadership ability. He was the Peyton Manning on defense for his team. Absolute beast. The only guy that out of my picks I watched play regularly and this kid always stood out in every game.

First round 12th overall (from Miami) the Broncos select: Dez Bryant WR, Oklahoma State

Here is the replacement for Marshall. I also really like this kid a lot. He has great size, speed, and hands. He has it all. Hs suspension doesn’t bother me personally. He just seemed to be a kid a little confused and tried to lie his way out of it. I thought the punishment was pretty harsh. Great mix of Marshall and Royals good qualities. However I also wouldn’t be against finding a replacement for Doom here. Maybe Sergio Kindle, or a good DE.

First round 21st overall (from Cincinnati) the Broncos select: Dan Williams NT, Tennessee

I think we could really use a good nose tackle to help with run defense and collapse the pocket. I see a lot of people talking about signing Ryan Pickett. I’m not quite sold on him. He is 31 years old and if no CBA is reached then he will be a restricted free agent. That would mean the Packers could match our offer or we might have to give up picks. Now if the Broncos do get him then this pick becomes Mike Iupati at OG, but I would rather see us try and get Dan Williams the best NT in this draft. He had 65 tackles, 8.5 TFL and two sacks in 11 games. Also he has been getting positive reviews at the senior bowl  according to scouts.

Second round 45th overall the Broncos select: Maurkice Pouncey C, Florida

This may be a stretch and the broncos might need to trade up a few picks but for fun lets pretend he gets here. Pouncey is our replacement for Wiegmann and helps shore up the running game. The best center in the draft and scouts reviews are very positive about him. The Broncos would be lucky to have him.

Third Round 73rd overall (from Miami) the Broncos select: Brandon Ghee CB, Wake Forest

We get some young blood into the cornerback position after a less than great first year for Alphonso Smith. Ghee will hopefully be the man that Smith was supposed to be when drafted.

Third Round 80th overall the Broncos select: Vladimir Ducasse OG, U Mass

Since we miss out on some of the earlier guards like Iupati and Buluga, we take Ducasse here as a substitute. While probably not a starter in his first year he will add depth at guard and be ready to take over whenever that might be. Also just like Williams, he is getting good reviews from the senior bowl weigh in.

Third Round 84th overall (from Cincinnati) the Broncos select: Jordan Shipley WR, Texas

This is probably a stretch if he got here but if he did than I would like to see the Broncos make a move. He would be very successful in a McDaniels spread offense that he used to run so much over at New England on their 2007 run. Even with McCoy hurt for the national championship he still played great getting 10 catches, 122 yards and 2 touchdowns with a freshman QB. He finished the season with 116 catches for 1,485 yards and 13 TDs.

Fourth Round 100th overall (from Washington) the Broncos select O’Brien Schofield OLB, Wisconsin

If anyone watched the East West game then you saw Schofield as he got 3 solo tackles, a first half interception and earned defensive MVP honors as the east won 13 – 10. The man with two last names had 24.5 TFL and 12 sacks is very promising. He would hopefully be an eventual replacement for Haggan and take away the sting of losing Dumervil.

Fourth Round 111th overall the Broncos Select C.J Wilson DE, East Carolina

Here the broncos get a defensive end to add a little bit of youth to the position. Wilson has good overall skills and has strong speed with a 40 of 4.74 at 285 pounds.

Fifth Round 131st overall (from Washington) the Broncos select Brandon Carter OG, Texas tech

This kid is getting a lot of recognition in the mock draft world and is getting better projections every day. He is a leader for an offensive line who plays with a lot of fire and intensity. Playing with guys like that always makes the guys around him play better. He might be taken much higher than this. It’s hard to tell at this point.

Sixth Round 173rd overall the Broncos select Andre Dixon RB, UConn

A solid running back that has a little more speed then Moreno and Buckhalter. Could maybe become a good 3rd down back. His good size and speed could make him a valuable weapon. Could form a formidable three-headed running attack with him as our third back.

Seventh Round 204th overall the Broncos select Robert Vaughn FS, UConn

This pick could be just about anyone at any position. Just went with a safety because Dawkins isn’t going to be able to play forever. This pick could also be another LB or CB or a million other things.

RECAP:

At the end of the day the Broncos have lost Brandon Marshall and Elvis Dumervil. Marshall is no big loss. Dez and Shipley come in to replace him and they wont be quite a distraction. Losing Doom does hurt especially after his great season, but we replenish the D with great new players and our O line looks great. With big gains like ILB McClain, WR Bryant, NT Williams, C Pouncey, OG Ducasse, WR Shipley and OLB Schofield and other solid picks I would be ecstatic if the draft were to unfold like this. Feel free to critique in the comments. Tell me what you think about this situation and if you would be for or against it.

Bluebird Banter Aroldis Chapman: Cuban Prodigy

"We don't have enough background and scouting looks to make a proper offer," - AA

That was said in an e-mail on October 26th, 2009 about 22 year old lefty Aroldis Chapman. I suppose since then that the Jays scouts have been doing their homework on him because the Blue Jays are in the thick of the race to acquire Chapman. As it stands the only teams left in the hunt for Chapman are the Jays, Angels, and possibly the Red Sox. The Marlins have reportedly bowed out of the race because of the increasing price. Currently the reported asking price is around 21 million.

That does seem like a lot for someone who has never pitched in the minor leagues let alone the major leagues but my view is that he is worth taking a shot at. Having someone who could potentially be a future ace and if the Jays use all three of the option years they’d get in one form or another, Chapman could be theirs through the end of the 2018 season and the cost is the equivalent of Alex Rios and Scott Rolen on the team for one year. Worst case scenario is he is a bust and we lose around a small amount compared to what the Jays have been tied down by in the past by terrible contracts.

Rarely does a prospect come across with his kind of potential. The reward far outweighs the risk and The Jays should be pressing hard to get him. It is very exciting to think of a top 3 of the rotation in 2012 of Chapman, Drabek, Stewart and have your pick from Cecil, Morrow, Litsch, Romero, Marcum, R-Zep, Mills, Alvarez, Gonzalez for the 4th and 5th spot. Plus with our depth at young pitching we could trade away some young pitchers to fill gaping holes at SS or 3B. I would love to see AA pull the trigger on this one. Love or hate the idea of getting Chapman, you have to admire how strongly AA is going at the rebuilding of this club.
