Cards Draft Day 1 and 2 Discussion
As an avid Cards and Draft fan I spend a lot of time leading up to the draft and during the draft following potential draft prospects. This year was no different though the crop of prospects were as good as I have seen since falling the draft closely. A lot more players to research, watch video and at times catch a game on TV (since there were no really exciting prospects in the STL area this year). I wrote a series on the Cards Draft Preview and did a Day 1 and 2 Recap over at Redbird Dugout. To recap I was quite disappointed overall with our draft. As I like Wong I don't love him and he has no further projection left. So with all the talented upside arms sitting there just waiting for us to take them we passed on all of them. So after Day 1 I said to myself...Wong shouldn't take any or much over slot to sign so we will certainly make a splash on Day 2 right? Well I was wrong for the most part. I did like the Tilson pick in the 2nd Rd but then we reached 2 critical picks in a row before taking our typical college projectable RHP in Gaviglio in the 5th Rd. From there the only picks I was fairly pleased with were Ehrlich (6), Martini (7), Jeffries (10) and Aramis Garcia (20). Out of all our picks Wong will slide somewhere in the 2nd half of the Top 10 prospects and Tilson somewhere in the teens...no one else will be in the Top 20 going into 2012.
Just want to have others chime in to see what their thoughts were on the Cards Draft so far. Is there anyone that I should be excited about that I didn't mention? Chime in!
