TC Jay Fund

I had the pleasure of attending Tom Coughlin's TC Jay Fund charity dinner on Friday night at Cipriani in Manhattan and I just wanted to share the experience and encourage the Giants faithful to support a great cause.

My initial reaction when I read the list of players in attendance was 'I wonder if Coach makes them go?' because nearly all the players were there. I am sure Coughlin encourages everyone to go but what I realized by talking to and observing the players during the cocktail hour is there is GREAT CHEMISTRY on this team right now.

They were all hanging out in big groups talking to each other and even thanking random people like me for coming! It is times like these that remind me why I am such a die hard Giants fan. Its not just about the great product they put out on the field every year. They are and always have been one of the classiest organizations in all of sports and we should all be proud to wear Giants blue.

I am not affiliated with this charity at all but I can assure you it is a very worthy cause. You can check it out and donate at http://www.tcjayfund.org/

Braylon Edwards for Kiwi ??

I saw this rumor floating around today: Braylon for Kiwanuka.

  http://ballhype.com/story/more_browns_trade_rumors_braylon_edwards_for_mathias/

Based on our recent acquisitions on the Defensive Line I would say go for it. I know Braylon had a rough year, but he has all the tools to be the deep threat we may be looking for. I still think Kiwi has a lot of upside but I have a feeling Canty would emerge as the starter if they went head to head in training camp....Thoughts ?

ANY CHANCE WE KEEP SPAGS ?

I really hope the Giants organization will pull out all the stops in an attempt to retain our tremendous defensive coordinator.

I'm assuming the Giants' brass will be willing and able to pay him head coach money right now, but is there any way we can set up a Jason Garrett agreement where we guarantee him head coaching job when Coughlin's contract is up ?

Our Super Bowl title was a complete team effort but without Spags running the 'D', Super Bowl 42 would belong to someone else.

GET READY FOR THE BIRDS

After watching the Vikings play in a potential 'win or go home' scenario, coupled with the Eagles dismantling the COW-HOAXES, I don't see any chance of the Vikings beating the Eagles this weekend.

Eagles' run defense is solid enough to at least contain AP, so they will dare Tarvaris to beat them which will not happen. On the flip side, even if Philly decides to throw the ball on every down I was definitely not impressed with the Vikes' secondary. David Carr was carvin em up !

Not that I am afraid of Philly but playing the winner of Arizona/Atlanta sounds a lot more enticing right now.

FIELD POSITION

I have been trying to find the statistic of our field position on kickoffs versus our opponents'. I was guessing (conservatively) it had to be somewhere in the range of our own 25 vs the opponent at their own 35.

There are two things I don't understand about this; a) How is there not an abundance of 'kickoff specialists' out there that can consistently kick the ball out of the end zone? Are you telling me there aren't at least 50 athletes between college football and soccer players throughout the world that would love to make $250k a year to play in the NFL just to kick the ball as far as they can?  b) Why isn't Hixon returning kicks ? I understand you don't want your new primary receiver to get hurt, but don't you think the reward is greater than the risk? When you have a difference maker on special teams I think you have to use it to your advantage at all costs.

I hate to focus on any negative aspects of my beloved G-Men, but I would hate to see something like this get in the way of a repeat title.

ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER @ GIANTS STADIUM?

That was just an old school,. smashmouth heavyweight battle in which the champs dug deep to prevail. Carolina was peaking coming in and they showed that they are a force to be reckoned with. I love our team because we never even think for a second that we are out of any game.

It seems like most of our dramatic victories have come on the road in recent memory. The only game I can think of where the stadium was electric like last night was 2001 NFC Champ 41-0 drubbing of the Vikes. Somebody help me out, last night's game has to be up there right ?

BRING YOUR 'A' GAME TO THE SWAMP ON SUNDAY

For all of us braving the elements Sunday night; BRING THE NOISE !!

I know we have laid an egg in back to back games, but the cold hard fact is that we are 11-3, playing for a first round bye and a chance to guarantee home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. And its not home field advantage if the wine and cheese boo-bird fans decide to let their voices be heard.

Lets stay positive and get the team fired up to play some playoff football in the swamps of Jersey !!

PLAX DESERVES A PASS

Regarding the article on the front page ('Do we reallly need Burress"), I think the answer is YES.

If you are a Giants fan who strongly disagrees I urge you to watch film of the NFC championship game in Green Bay on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. I was at the game enduring the 15 below temperature wondering how anyone in their right mind could go out there and catch a frozen football in short sleeves while being fully aware they were going to take a bone chilling hit at the end. Plax stepped his toughness and competitive edge in those conditions to the tune of 11 catches 154 yards.

Maybe I am alone on this...But I think that performance, which was the epitomy of what willed us into the Super Bowl, gives him a pass for minor disciplinary infractions the season after a Super Bowl win. Don't believe the hype, the media always finds a way to drag down the team that can do no wrong right now.

PRO BOWL LINE

After our #1 rush offense DOMINATED Baltimore's #1 rush defense can our O-LINE start getting some credit !!!??? I don't want to take anything away from Jacobs, Ward, and Bradshaw but most tailbacks in the NFL would have combined for 200+rushing yards if they had the blocking our stallions were providing. I don't think I am being greedy in saying Chris Snee, Shaun O'Hara, and David Diehl all deserve to go to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl this year.

THE PERFECT GAME

It's scary to think the Giants have yet to play a 'complete' game this season. If our offense plays like it did against Seattle and Dallas on the same Sunday our defense plays like it did against Washington and Pittsburgh --LOOK OUT !

I have always been a cynical Giants fan (always praying for the best but fully expecting the worst) BUT who the hell in the NFC is going to beat us ??? The only team that still scares me is Dallas, but I think if they lose at Washington this week they will implode.

Overall I think Kevin Gilbride is doing a phenomenal job calling the plays this year. However, there was one situation in the Philly game where we were up 17-7 in the 2nd quarter and moving the ball into their territory ready to bury them. Jacobs was averaging 8 yards/carry, Ward's legs were fresh and our O-line had their D-line on roller skates. Gilbride decides to keep the defense "off balance" and calls a pass play on 1st down, Eli gets sacked at or around the 50 and now its 2nd and 19. That gets the crowd back in the game after we had silenced them. After 2 conservative play calls we punted away the rock, and they came down to score to make it 17-14. The bottom line is that we have 3 capable halfbacks running behind the best blocking fullback in the NFL....If they are having trouble stopping the run early in the game ITS OVER !!! SHOVE IT DOWN THEIR F'IN THROATS !!
