Avs Open 2011-12 Season At Home
According to an NHL source, the Avalanche will open its 2011-12 season at home on Saturday, Oct. 8 against the Detroit Red Wings at the Pepsi Center.
Let the hate begin!

From Dater's blog.
Thank You MHH
I just wanted to thank the founders, writers and the many posters of this site for a great year. I was always a casual hockey fan at best (mainly because it conflicted with the NBA which is my first true love and proof that I need to visit a mental institution) and honestly kind of fell out of touch with the game around the lockout. That said I kept hearing about Matt Duchene this summer, and all of the young talent the Avs had, so I started to get excited. And it was at that point that I first checked out MHH. Then I watched the Avs first game this season and fell in love with the youth and speed and talent. Then the second. Then the third. And so on, and so on. And I found myself going to MHH to see what the many intelligent people on this site had to say about the game -- if not immediately, then within 12 hours of the game. So while many people are giving the Young Guns credit for getting them excited about hockey again, I have to give some of the thanks to the many people here. This is, by far, one of the best online communities I've ever seen.
So thank you to everyone associated with MHH.
While the Avs haven't overcome the Nuggets as my favorite team (once again, proving that I apparently was a criminal in my past life and must pay off my karmic debt by following that God-forsaken team), I'm already excited about next October. Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to retreat to lurkerdom once again.

Last Night's Games (& Random Notes)
* Brandon Roy! Wow. BTW, I'll agree with Jeremy that Portland's defense isn't that great, but I honestly think that's going to change over the season. They're still feeling out Oden. If you look at their team, there's not one "bad" defender in the starting lineup. Oden is a good defender. Blake, Roy and Aldridge are average. Batum is going to be a stud defender eventually IMO and right now is above average. The only "bad" defenders in their rotation right now are Sergio Rodriguez (who just looks painful on defense -- bend your knees, not your waist!) and Rudy Fernandez. And I wouldnt' even put them in the horrible category (see: Kleiza, Linas) because they're trying out there at least.
* Orlando. Many laughed at me when I said they were a dark horse and should challenge for the Eastern Conference title, but if Jameer Nelson keeps playing like that, they're going to make some teams very miserable in the playoffs.
Then again, I also predicted that the Nets and Indiana Pacers would be two of the worst teams in the NBA, so I shouldn't get too smug.
* It appears I was wrong about Jason Richardson with the Suns too. He looked good last night. Curious to see if it lasts or if Amare starts throwing a fit.
* Carlos Boozer is opting out of his contract this off-season. Shocking. Great news though.
* Another reason why CP3 is an MVP candidate and one of my favorite players to watch.
RUMOR: Atkins to Orlando?
First off, one of the best blogs out there is Third Quarter Collapse, an Orlando Magic blog. If you're not reading it, do.
Now on their site, there's a post about the rumor sending Chucky Atkins to Orlando. There are a few different versions of this rumor, and you can read them all there. Basically, it's either:
* Atkins for Brian Cook
* Atkins for Keith Bogans
* Atkins for a $3 mil trade exemption
This rumor has been around for a few weeks, and my immediate thought was "let's do the Cook rumor" because he would give us size which we desperately need. Then I carefully watched Cook in a few games. You know how I was wrong about Birdman this year? I was even more wrong about Cook being competent. He looked horrible. So let's scratch that one off. While I like Bogans, I ultimately think the best thing we could do would be to dump Atkins for the exemption. It gets us under the luxury tax (huge plus for Stan) and frees up a roster spot so we can get Juwan back. We NEED size up front. I have been bitching about it for weeks. If we're going to keep Kleiza (shoot me now), we need to do something else that allows us to get another big up front. I love Balkman, but he's a three who can play spot minutes at the four. We're getting killed when he's our primary backup 4. And the lineup with LK at the four is even worse.
Thoughts?
2 weeks in....
What are everyone's thoughts on the NBA so far? If I can pat myself on the back, my Hawks sleeper pick is looking damn good right now. I love that team. I tried to watch the game last night but I just physically get angry at Boston so I had to limit it. It's gonna be an uphill battle this season for Atlanta, but they might be better than the 7 seed I thought they would be.
On the other hand, I was really wrong about the Spurs. Really wrong. In my defense though, they've had a brutal stretch of injuries. The problem for the rest of the NBA is that if Parker & Ginobili get healthy, and the team can sneak in as a 6 or 7 seed, they are immediately the most dangerous 6 or 7 seed in NBA history. Could you imagine a NO-SA playoff series in round 1? Good lord.
I know they haven't looked great, but I still like my Hornets pick. They've had a tough schedule. They'll come together. On the other hand, the Lakers look damn scary. Trevor Ariza has been a beast for them. I enjoyed watching him in NY, but he's a completely different player now. The Lakers reserves could probably beat the OKC Thunder in a game of 5-on-5.
Anyone Else Going Tonight?
Gotta support my boy Chaunce.
Buffaloes, Buffaloes, Go C-U!
And this still needs 75 words. I don't know what to put here. I was just hoping to see if any other Pickaxe & Roll readers would be at the game. But now I have to be long winded. I'm not good at being long winded. Well, I am, but not on the internet. I'm lazy. This has to be 75 words, right?
OT: Vote!
I'm not going to endorse a candidate, an ammendment, a refferendum or anything else here because I think it's great that this site is politics free (especially considering the last 2 years have been anything but), but I just wanted to remind everyone to go vote today! No matter who or what you vote for (Chauncey for Prez!), it's your civic duty. So go do it.
Go America!
And let's go Nuggets
YES!!!!!!
http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2008/11/pistons_to_trade_billups_mcdye.html
I love AI, and I will always be grateful to him for his hard work, but this deal makes the Nuggets TONS better. Our offense bogs down without a PG, and this solves that problem.
Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow.
Awesome.
I HAVE to go to Friday's game now and welcome Chaunce back to where he belongs. I will have a Billups shirt. What number is he gonna wear?
Game 2: Nugs @ Clippers
No Camby. I'm stunned. STUNNED I tell you.
ESPN's projections have us winning the game 104-99. Stupid? Yes, but interesting to look at if nothing else. Critical game for the Nugs. If they can win, they'll put themselves in a good position. They'll be 1-2 heading into next Wednesday's game against Golden State. At that point, our next four games are @GS, Dallas, Memphis and Charlotte. Watching Dallas last night, I wasn't that impressed (although I did like that they ran, now get ready for the traditional media to complain about their "lack of defense"), and we could be 5-2 heading into the back to back from hell (@Cle, @Bos).
I'm going to watch our PG's tonight. And by that, I mean Anthony Carter. I love AC, but he shouldn't be playing 35 minutes a game. He had three really bad possessions in a row late in the fourth against Utah and we can't afford that. I'd love for us to get a PG to right the ship (and clean up our rotation), but I'm not sure who's available. Hinrich might be, and I'd love to send LK & the exception for him and either a pick or filler, but I'm not sure Chicago would do the deal (in fact, I'm almost positive they wouldn't). Who else is available though? Tinsley's out there, but I don't see him as an answer. I'd love to get Lowry from Memphis, but he's not a "present tense" answer. I just don't know what to do, which is why I don't work for the team. I'd love to see the rotation cleaned up though.
Nugs, Kleiza Close to Extension
I'm hardly the biggest LK fan, but for $6 mil a year you get a top level bench player. If he can cut down on thinking he's a superstar and play within a system (provided we have one), he can be a great attribute. Gets him a little financial stability and gives the Nugs a cheap(-ish) bench player. Also, if need be, that $6 mil price tag isn't high so he can be moved in a trade.
Now we just need to see if we're picking up Balkman's option before Friday. I hope we do, especially at $2.1 mil, but it wouldn't surprise me for the front office to let it go to keep our potential flexibility in check.
NBA Championship Predictions?
Apparently my first copy disappeared.
Anyone willing to go out on a limb? I'm going with Hornets over Magic in 6. I'll fully admit that this is partly a dream scenario as I LOVE watching these two teams and would be in heaven with this matchup. Everyone knows how great CP3 & Superman are, but it'd be nice to see David West, Tyson Chandler, Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis get some (deserved) attention. Everyone knows about the Hornets, but I think people are sleeping on the Magic. Peitrus is one of the more underrated signings of the off-season and I have faith in Jameer Nelson to pull his head out of his ass long enough to not screw up the PG position too badly.
This Is A First...
I agree with Mark Kizla. I feel dirty.
Article. I hate agreeing with Kizla, because he's a tool, but he's dead on on this one. Camby is overrated. Wildly. KMart was our best defender last year, and he'll be fine. I'm nervous about Nene actually, you know, playing but this will work out fine.
And I still haven't written 75 words, and it's early and I missed the bus this morning, so I'm just going to ramble for a moment so I can reach 75 words.
What is JR's Role?
I wrote this yesterday afternoon, before the Tinsley rumor. Hopefully, that deal doesn’t go through. If it doesn’t, my post still stands (as well as my sanity). If it does…. Anyway, I thought I’d post it to see what others have to think. Technically, it still applies, just move AI to the 2 and Tinsley to the point.
While the team has many concerns for the upcoming season, I think one that people are overlooking is what to do with the JR Smith / Allen Iverson combo. Specifically does AI start at the point or does JR come off of the bench? Honestly, I personally think that the size problem starting AI at SG was overblown last season. Honestly, AI and Carter held their own on defense (or as much as we can expect AI to hold his own). Besides, how many really big backcourts are there in the NBA? Houston (T-Mac) and Seattle (Durant) come to mind. Now as for AC sucking on offense, that I can’t dispute. So do we start AI at the point and hope that he can run an offense? I always thought his ballhog reputation was undeserved. The bigger problem with starting AI the point, in my opinion, is the lack of balance on our lineup. If we start AI at the point, and JR at the SG position, we have the following lineup:
AI – Huge advantage offense
JR – Advantage offense
Melo – Huge advantage offense
KMart – Advantage defense
Nene – Advantage offense
4 players that are better on offense (and by quite a bit) than defense. My problem with that lineup isn’t AI at the point, it’s JR starting at the 2. I honestly believe that JR’s best role is what I call the “Ginobili Role” where he still plays 30-35 mpg, but he comes off of the bench to provide a spark. I always hoped Bobby Jones would take the SG role, but he couldn’t do it. Here’s hoping Dahntay Jones can. If so, that gives us the following lineup:
AI – Huge advantage offense
Jones – Huge advantage defense
Melo – Huge advantage offense
KMart – Advantage defense
Nene – Advantage offense
Much more balanced. Plus, it allows JR to come off of the bench and really wake things up. Ultimately, I’m thrilled with the flexibility we have on this team – even if I don’t like some of the players.
Can Play 4 Positions:
Balkman (SG, SF, PF, C in emergency)
Can Play 3 Positions:
Melo (SG, SF, PF); Kleiza (SG, SF, PF); KMart (SF, PF, C)
Can Play 2 Positions:
Andersen (PF, C); Hunter (PF, C); AI (PG, SG); Dahntay (SG, SF); Nene (PF, C); JR (SG, SF); Weems (SG, SF); Howard (SF, PF)
Thoughts? Am I crazy for not wanting to start our best 5 players? Am I crazy for suggesting AI should run the point? Am I crazy for following this God-forsaken team?
Juwan Howard Signs With Nugs
One year, minimum, non-guaranteed. This is great. He doesn't have much left in the tank, but he can play 10 mpg if needed. He provides front-court depth (which is desperately needed). He's also, most importantly, a locker room influence. He's played with Nene before so hopefully they can work together. Even if he never plays a single minute with the team, if he can just help Nene, he's worth whatever we pay him and then some. The only problem is, this gives us 13 guaranteed contracts and a few non-guaranteed. If the team is dumping salary, that's an interesting dillemma. I wonder if we'll see a two-guaranteed for one deal go down?
Hollinger's Western Conference Predictions
* Utah Jazz 58-24
* Los Angeles Lakers 57-25
* Houston Rockets 56-26
* New Orleans Hornets 50-32
* San Antonio Spurs 47-35
* Phoenix Suns 45-37
* Dallas Mavericks 45-37
* Portland Trail Blazers 42-40
* Denver Nuggets 41-41
* Golden State Warriors 40-42
* Minnesota Timberwolves 31-51
* Los Angeles Clippers 30-52
* Memphis Grizzlies 26-56
* Sacramento Kings 23-59
* Oklahoma City Thunder 20-62
I'd flip Utah and New Orleans, and I'd put Portland and Dallas, but other than that I mostly agree. I think Sacramento could surprise some people (as in win 35 games), and think Minnesota is on the way up. The Thunder page won't load for me, so I'm assuming they're the worst in the West -- which I agree with 100%.
All in all, I thought his Nugs preview was dead on.
Hollinger's Eastern Conference Predictions
* Boston Celtics 60-22
* Detroit Pistons 54-28
* Philadelphia 76ers 50-32
* Orlando Magic 46-36
* Cleveland Cavaliers 47-35
* Toronto Raptors 47-35
* Indiana Pacers 41-41
* Charlotte Bobcats 40-42
* Chicago Bulls 39-43
* Miami Heat 39-43
* Washington Wizards 36-46
* Milwaukee Bucks 32-50
* Atlanta Hawks 31-51
* New York Knicks 28-54
* New Jersey Nets 27-55
I STRONGLY disagree with him on the Hawks and Bobcats. I see the Hawks around 7, Bobcats around 13. I also think Orlando and Detroit will flip spots. His Western Conference predictions come out today. I love Hollinger's stuff, but I'm a huge nerd.
Our PG Position Just Got Worse
Nice to see the injuries starting already this season *smacking head against desk*
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/sep/24/nuggets-atkins-miss-camp-after-knee-surgery/
Chucky Atkins is having surgery on his knee and is out six weeks. So now we're bringing in Matean Cleaves and Jamon Gordon to be training camp fodder. I really wish we would go after Sergio Rodriguez or Peteri Kopponen of Portland if not Kyle Lowry of Memphis. I'm a firm believer in always having a young PG with potential on the roster, similar to QB in the NFL.
NBA Preview Mags Are Out!
YAY!!!!!!
God I'm a nerd.
Anyway, I've seen Lindy's, Athlon's and Sporting News' preview mags on the stand lately. I haven't had a chance to read them yet, but I was scanning one of them (it was either Lindy or Athlon, can't remember, I think Lindy) and was stunned by them. Their Nugs grades were a little low, which was to be expected, but I couldn't believe how high their Celtics grades were. On a scale of 1-10, they had the following:
* PG - 8.5 (Rajon Rondo and Eddie House)
* SG - 8.5 (Ray Allen and Tony Allen)
* SF - 9.0 (Paul Pierce and, uh, Tony Allen)
Now, just to compare, the Nugs had the following scores:
* SG - 9.0 (AI and JR)
* SF - 8.5 (Melo, LK and Balkman)
OK, can someone honestly tell me that Rondo and Eddie House are equal to Melo, LK and Balkman? I'm hardly an LK fan, but what the hell? And the Allen's being equal to our SF's? What?
I realized I'm biased as hell (I hate Boston "fans", and I never liked KG, Pierce or Doc Rivers), but God I'm sick of the Celtic love. Tortured fans my ass.
Yes, I realize this fanpost will probably end up on the Boston site, and yes I realize that they will mock me. I don't care.
ANYWAY, back to the original point of this fan post, not one of the mags pick the Nugs to make the playoffs. All of them have us third. One of the lesser two (I put TSN above the other ones) had us barely ahead of Oklahoma City. OKC?!? Seriously? They're going to be one of the worst teams in the league with only Memphis keeping them out of the cellar.
Are The Nugs A Playoff Team RIGHT NOW?
While responding to Josh’s great fanpost, I started wondering if I was in the minority on the Nuggets playoff chances. It seems like a few of you guys really like where the team is heading. While it appears a majority of this site thinks that Camby isn’t as big of a loss as the talking heads do (myself being included in that group), some of you guys seem to either think the Nugs will be better next year, or the West in general will be worse.
There are reasons for optimism:
* Melo is a year older, and starting to reach his potential of being a 25 & 10 player
* AI is in a contract year and motivated
* Nene is finally healthy (knock on wood)
* K-Mart proved last year that he can still be a solid contributor
* JR is ready to make the leap
* Dallas and Phoenix are both older and not better
There are reasons for pessimism:
* AI is a year older. Is this the year he breaks down?
* Nene is NEVER healthy
* Who runs the point?
* What is Karl’s state of mind?
* Frontcourt depth? Birdman? Really?
* Our Portland overlords are arriving. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
So do you, as of right now, think the Nuggets are a playoff team in the West? Why or why not?
Hey Jeremy
You need to get P&R to represent.
http://jonesonthenba.com/2008/09/nba-stadiums-blog-day.html
And I need 75 words. I would just like to say that I hate the fact that the NBA feels like it is required to prod the fans on with jumbotrons at all times. I still remember the playoff series against the Spurs -- the Nugs were close in game 4 at home, the crowd was ROCKING with 2:30 left in the game and trying to cheer the team on. At that point, the brilliant stadium crew decided to play Van Halen's "Right Now" which starts with a quiet piano solo. This threw off the rhythm of the crowd and the cheering finally fell silent so all you could hear was the music. Way to ruin the fan experience guys.
The Sixers & Bloggers
Great post on Truehoop today about the Sixers doing a conference call with bloggers. It's a great idea, and one I wish the Nugs would do (or at least let Jeremy ask them questions). Sadly, I realize our front office will never do this. I might be jaded, but I hate the media coverage of the team. Ever since Altitude started it seems that the team does everything they can to provide only media access from their point of view. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the games being on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain.
Also, if you're not reading TrueHoop every day, you're a fool. Best basketball blog on the internet not named Pickaxe & Roll.
As of right now....
...are the Nuggets a playoff team? I just want to see where everyone's heads are at during the dog days of summer. Using the present rosters of every team in the NBA, are the Nuggets in the top 8 in the West? So, answer these questions...
1.) Are the Nugs a playoff team? Where do you see them seeded?
2.) Who is the best team in the division?
3.) Who are the conference champions for 2008-09 and NBA champs?
4.) Who is going to surprise next season?
5.) Who is going to disappoint?
6.) Is anyone still reading this fanpost?
All, right here are my answers.
1.) No. 9th or 10th
2.) Call me crazy, but I think it's Portland. I know some think I'm putting too much stock in Oden & Bayless, but even without them this year I think the year's growth would have propelled them past us in the standings. Adding those two gives them enough to overtake Utah. They're deep, they play as a team and provided Precious Roy stays healthy, they're a top 4 seed next year.
3.) I hate to say it, but probably the Lakers. I'm REALLY hoping New Orleans can overtake them, but it's going to be hard. Hopefully Kobe does what he does best and proves to be a gigantic prick and causes strife in the locker room. The East will still be good with Boston, Detroit, Cleveland and my two darkhorses (Toronto & Orlando), but I don't think they're good enough to take out either LA or NO. Ah, screw it. New Orleans over Orlando in 6 games in what would be one of the most entertaining (but sadly, lowest ratings) NBA Finals in a long time.
4.) For taking the next step -- Toronto and Orlando. I called Orlando last year to win the division and make the conference finals and they almost did it. Detroit was a brutal match-up for them. Another year together, along with Detroit & Boston getting older, and I think they can do it. Toronto's another team to watch IMO. If JON stays healthy, they're dangerous. I just hope he doesn't slow them down. As for just improving -- I think Indiana should do better this season. I've always liked TJ Ford and think that they have a nice little thing going there. Danny Granger is going to explode this season.
5.) Houston. Don't get me wrong, I think they were smart to do the deal for Artest, but I just don't like what they have going. Can TMac stay healthy? Can Yao stay healthy? Will Artest explode? Where is Artest going to play? I LOVE Shane Battier, but he and Artest basically mirror each other. Unless TMac is running the point, one fo them is on the bench (I don't buy the Artest at the 4 stuff).
6.) Oooh! I am!
OT: Ralphie Report
Not sure if there are any other CU fans here (Go Buffs!), but I just saw a link at the top of this blog for the Ralphie Report -- a CU blog here on the SB Nation.
I'm ready for college football season. I need something to kill some time until the NBA starts. I can't get into baseball at all, hockey's still a while away and the Broncos are (sadly) going to suck this year. Come on Buffs!
US vs Spain
Was I the only one that was seriously disappointed with this game? Not with the result obviously, but I was really looking forward to watching Ricky Rubio after all of the hype. I kept hearing not only was he an offensive wizard, but he was a good to great defender. He looked awful out there. He had the one touch pass for the oop, but other than that he was getting abused out there. I know he's only 17. I know he was going against the best players in the world (namely CP3), but I was expecting him to at least show up. I'm seriously bummed.
And the Gasol family has to be the ugliest family ever.
Other Teams You Enjoy Watching
OK, I'm James and I'm a basketballaholic. I watch way too much of it. If you look at my DVR right now, you'll see last Saturday's Broncos game (which I can probably delete), the two Arkansas games from the NCAA Tournament that CBS College Sports just re-showed (gotta watch Sonny!) and about 5 summer league games. That's it. So obviously, I need mental help.
Anyway, I was just curious other than the Nugs, what teams do you enjoy watching? Last season, I "adopted" four other teams -- all in the East or Central time zone -- that I would watch pretty regularly. Orlando, Atlanta, Toronto and Memphis. 3 out of 4 ain't bad. So what about this season?
* Orlando - as long as Dwight Howard is there, they're staying in my list. Also, as much as I ripped on Turkoglu, he really picked it up last season. It was a travashamockery that he didn't make the all-star game.
* New Orleans - CP3 baby! If you don't enjoy watching him, you don't love life. Chandler's a badass, West is an all-star. Basically, this is the team that the Nugs tried to be and failed miserably.
* Portland - I welcome our Trail Blazer overlords. Watching them in January during their 12 game winning streak was amazing. Brandon Roy is probably the most underrated player in the league. Add Oden, Rodriguez, Bayless and Koponen (who I wish the Nugs would try to get) and you have a playoff team.
* Philadelphia - Andre Miller is my favorite player in the NBA and it'll be great to see him surrounded with a solid cast. Add Brand to the mix, and it's even better.
I'm also excited to watch a little of Minnesota (Kevin Love!), Toronto (Bosh, O'Neal and Calderon make them scary) and Chicago (who every year suck me in, only to disappoint). I used to love watching the Clippers, but now that my favorite team is Camby free, I'm not going to watch a team that has him. The SOB is out of my life.

Grizzlies Sign Josh Smith To Contract Offer
Grizz sign Josh Smith to contract. Hawks have a week to match. They'd better match.
Apparently, this must be 75 words long. So I will now talk about why I want Josh to stay with Atlanta. First, they're in the East. I like teams in the East being good. Secondly, I watched a lot of Hawks games last year. I don't know why. I really like Joe Johnson (The Armdaillo Cowboy!). Josh Smith is one of the top 5 exciting players in the game. Acie Law IV was great in college. Al Horford is a badass.
That has to be 75 words, right?
Schedule Is Out - Nugs Start @ Utah
Because hey, what better way to start a season than to lose at your most hated rival without your star player. Awesome!
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/aug/05/melo-will-be-back-for-nuggets-home-opener/
Also, Portland (who along with New Orleans gives me hope for the future of basketball) apparently has a brutal start to the season. From the Blazers.com blog:
Wednesday morning the NBA schedule will be released. I've seen it, and was even pouring over it with Kevin Pritchard last week. One word describes the first six weeks of the season- brutal. I don't mean kind of difficult, I mean brutal. You'll understand what I mean when you see it, and I'm sure you'll agree. If this team comes through the first 24 games with a record anywhere near .500 it will be remarkable. You think I'm overstating that. Again, you'll see.
I guess a babtism by fire isn't necessarily a horrible thing. For this team's sake, let's hope not.
We also know that Xmas will give us Magic vs Hornets (yay!), Lakers vs Celtics (boo!) and Spurs at Suns (meh). Hawks open the season at Orlando (which, provided Atlanta has removed their heads from their asses and re-signed Josh Smith should be fun). Oh, and the Nugs play at Toronto on New Year's Eve.
EDIT - see my reply for the schedule that was just announced.
Nugs Close To Acquiring Renaldo Balkman
http://www.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/ny-spknix285780524jul28,0,7410321.story
The Knicks and Nuggets are discussing a trade that would send 2006 first-round pick Renaldo Balkman to Denver for point guard Taurean Green and small forward Bobby Jones, an NBA front-office source told Newsday last night.
The deal would mark the end of Balkman's mostly confusing tenure with the Knicks, who selected him with the 20th pick two years ago when Isiah Thomas said Phoenix would've swiped him if he hadn't. That scenario appears even more dubious now that the former coach of the Suns, Mike D'Antoni, is ready to ship Balkman out for little more than roster fodder.
Love it. Absolutely love it. He fills the Najera role off of the bench perfectly. I'd like it if he were a little bigger because I'm not convinced he can do too much post defense, but I know he absolutely terrorized Melo whenever we played the Knicks.
I was hoping Bobby Jones would work out with the Nugs, but with us signing Dahntay Jones, it was pretty obvious Bobby was on the way out. Now I hope that Chris Lofton picks up his play because we really need a young PG prospect to start working on.
Birdman To Return
http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_9972596
I know it's the league minimum, but I hate this deal. First off, Andersen was awful. Horrid. Hell, we couldn't even play him on the road because Buzz knew he couldn't do anything. More importantly, I think this might keep us from hanging on to Elton Brown who, unlike Birdman, might actually be able to contribute.
This better be purely a PR move.
Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh.
