RG3 & Mortgaging the Skins future? Maybe-Maybe Not
At first ,I was against giving up so many picks for one guy, our Skins have just not had much luck with this type of thing, in the draft or FA's. I was hoping we would trade back and get more picks blah, blah, blah, another year with no franchise QB. But then, it happened, and we basically gave up a 2nd and 2 1st RD picks. Was it to much or not? Seems like a lot of TV analyst think it was mortgaging the future(hate this term) and a few think it was the right move.
Having said that, and just looking at our 1st RD selections over the past 10 yrs, ( I know the scale it tipped because of Vinny) but I think, now, it was defiantly the right move. I also just read, Holmgren is not happy about not moving up to 2nd spot in the draft. I am sure he saw the value in RG3 as well, so it seems. I was just wondering what you guys thought about what we gave up, considering out last 10yrs of draft picks. I am sure I may not be writing this if Allen & Shanny had drafted for us the last 10 yrs.
I am sure you guys know most this by heart, I had to look-up a few and it was funny seeing the ones I forgot;
Redskins Draft 2002-2011 (IMO)
2011=16th- Ryan K ( great pick, & great move trading back)
2010=4th-T Will ( solid pick, yet to be determined)
2009=13th- Rak (great pick)
2008=no pick, traded back from 21st with Atlanta, 3 2nd Rd picks,( 1 for 3,bad year for WR's,just our luck.)
2007= 6th- Laron( seemed like a good pick, but I say bust, you know, like a bicep about to pop)
2006= no pick, traded for JC in 05' 2nd Rd Rocky Mac ( I love Gibbs & JC as a person, but bad football move)
2005= 9th-Carlos Rogers & 25th-JC ( why couldn't he catch the ball in DC, JC is a capable backup)
2004=5th- #21 ( GREAT PICK, RIP)
2003=no pick( traded 13th for rights to Laveranues Coles 2nd Rd Taylor Jacobs ( Coles had one good yr, then traded for Moss, pretty good move in the end)
2002= 32nd-Patrick Ramsey, trade back from 21st with NE & Oakland, not sure the actual trade details,( not so much)
Seeing this, I think we made the right move, we did make the playoffs in 2005 & 2007, and we have had really good teams that should have made the playoffs at least 1 or 2 other years......but a franchise QB is must in NFL, unless you have a once in a decade Def.... 2 1st & a 2nd Rd pick is worth the risk on RG3, it sure helps the team & fan base, which it seemed like was on the verge of suicide with RexBeck as our QB options next year.
I would love to hear your thoughts as well.....HTTR

O-Line and 3-4 Jumping beans
A few things on both subjects. Is it just me,or is T Williams the only guy who looks like he is really trying to hit somebody? Rabach is just old, every game I see " to cool for school" Jamal Brown just standing around why the DE goes right by him, he has no fire even when he does get a piece of the defender, Hicks will make a contact ,but the defender has already pushed him 2 yards in the backfield, again,no fire, and I am still not sure why Doc was ever replaced by Lich, he seems was to slow and gets owned 80% of the time,and again, no fire.....no way we make it to the next level with no fire out of the o-line.
After 6 games, I am ready to "file 13" the 3-4. The past 5 or so years we have had a top 10 Def, I know this year we are putting a lot of opponents on IR, but it seems everyone is uncomfortable ,just running around all over the place. The guys we have do not fit the 3-4 scheme. I believe we would have won at least 2 more games playing the 4-3. Carter is almost a non factor this year in pass rushing and coverage. We get nothing from D-lineman. With our CB's and safety's ,we definitely should not be the worst secondary in the league. It has to be the scheme. What do you think?
Skins vs Saints will have Texas Visitors.....
My brother in law got my sister tickets to the Skins game this week.....sec 101 5th row..50 yrd line I believe...my aunt lives in Manassas, where they will be staying. They drove to Ohio to see his parents and are going to drive to VA on sat. Any tips for them on parking etc... about the stadium? My aunt has been to a few games, so they will not be totally in the dark...thanks
Did anyone catch this in the Skins/Boys game?
Rest of this Seasons Games
As if it has not been bad enough, out of the ten games we have left,only 2 teams have losing records.And Oakland beat the Eagles.Sooo, it seems we are in for a long rest of the season. How many of these games can we really win? As of right now, it does not seen like many,but as long as we beat Dallas,we can lose the rest and I will not be that disappointed. As long as the players do not give up along the way....
What about the Chiefs?
I know everyone is up in arms about the Skins right now as an organization,but what about the Chiefs? We do still have to play the games. With our O-line situation and coach sitting on a 4th of July BBQ pit, I would have to say we are not looking so good. We are, at home, so I do believe we will still win this game. If the' Band-aid Bunch' O-line can just give JC a little time and open up at least a few holes for CP, oh, and Westbrook opens his eyes on returns, I think we have a good chance of winning. What do you think?
Next 3yrs?(just a thought)
Most are pretty up in arms about this years team already( I love our team on paper)...Coach,QB,OL for the most part..... All worth worrying about...I am not only worried about this year,but what about the next 3 yrs? Maybe I am getting ahead of myself,but I am not sure I see many positive things for the next 3 yrs at this point.Its safe to say we will have a new coach next year or the year after.So that means we are starting over again soon.I believe if Zorn goes,JC will to. We do not have much on the bench to fill in if thats the case,and drafting a rookie QB and playing him right way is 90/10.10 being Ryan,Flacco,and a few others who had good 1st or 2nd yrs.Our OL needs a major overhaul and again,not much on the bench to help. Our RB's are getting up there in age too, but that position does not mean much if you have no OL. Are we the oldest team in the league? I heard that somewhere.And our best player on DF L Fletcher is getting up there too, he has no replacement either on the bench. Our defense can be great if we mix it up a little, but we play the same almost every game.Relying mostly on talent.If we drafted better, I would not be so worried.Ah, Mr. VC is at the plate,"fool ball!" I am not writing the Skins off for 4 years by any means,but just by looking at the ol' tools in box and seeing the General Foreman over there sitting on a bucket, we can not build a very big house in the next few years. I would really like to eat my words and see a Really Big House.....just my opinion as a fan of the team and the game of football....

Laron Landry needs to step up!!!
I know he is a good athlete and all, but come on LL...Sometimes he reminds me of Lavar in his first 2 yrs..Always getting to the ball but not making the play.He is late a lot of the time on the deep ball too. I see he has all the tools and is a top ten safety, but coming out of LSU, he dominated some games. He has yet to do that in the NFL.If we are going to take the next step...he is going to have to be a big part of it..I believe he needs at least 5 int's this year...and needs to be able to dominate some games...(Ed Reed-Bob Sanders)when healthy! Go Skins!!!
How many WR's do we need......
I guess Zorn and company have no faith in our 2nd rd picks from last year Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly..with Moss and Randall El, that makes 4 WR......I only see a spot for 1 more WR........We must have 9 going into camp right now.......I think we need more at other positions than WR....or DT and MK are not the real deal.........I was really hoping Thomas would be able to take over at the #2 WR and Kelly would be our 4th......putting Randall El in slot of coarse.....
