Chiefs open to keeping Branden Albert

Branden Albert might not be traded after all. Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are open to the idea of keeping Albert in 2013, rather than trading him, according to The Kansas City Star.

Kansas City was shopping Albert prior to the 2013 NFL Draft, seeking a second-round draft pick in return. Armed with two second-round picks and a need at left tackle, the Dolphins were linked to Albert in trade rumors -- and indeed discussed a trade with the Chiefs.

Miami general manager Jeff Ireland opted against using one of his picks to acquire Albert, and instead packaged one of Miami's two second-round picks with the No. 12 overall pick to acquire the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, to select Oregon defensive end Dion Jordan.

The Chiefs used the franchise tag on Albert earlier this offseason, preventing him from reaching free agency. A team that trades for Albert will undoubtedly attempt to sign the left tackle to a long-term deal, but Albert is seeking a significant payday -- which is another hindrance in trade talks.

Kansas City is believed to want a 2014 second-round pick in exchange for Albert if they trade him. The Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers are potential destinations for Kansas City's left tackle.

The 2013 NFL Draft came and went, and the offseason is now in its post-draft phase. The New York Jets wasted little time making headlines, cutting ties with a popular quarterback just days after drafting Geno Smith.

Here's the latest news and rumors from around the NFL.

Jets release Tebow

Tebow Time in New York is over. The Jets released Tebow after an odd and disappointing season in 2012 -- Tebow's only with the Jets. New York surrendered a fourth-round draft choice for one season of Tebow, in a trade that will mostly be remembered for the media circus that began in Cortland, N.Y. and ended with the Jets finishing 6-10 after a disastrous and distracting season.

Rex Ryan rarely used Tebow. The former Florida Gators and Denver Broncos quarterback attempted only eight passes, completing six for 39 yards, while rushing 32 times for 102 yards. Tebow contributed on special teams as well, but was essentially a ghost -- save for the media frenzy that followed him everywhere.

Even though Ryan eventually benched Mark Sanchez, the Jets didn't turn to Tebow, instead turning to Greg McElroy. Though Tebow was injured throughout the season, that the Jets wouldn't give Tebow a chance at quarterback -- even toward the end of the season -- is telling.

If Tebow does latch on with another NFL team, it almost certainly won't be as a quarterback. Tebow will likely have to accept his role as a football player, lining up on special teams, as a tight end, and perhaps occasionally, as a quarterback as a change-of-pace play.

Colts, Bills complete trade

The overhaul of the Indianapolis Colts continues, as the Colts traded outside linebacker Jerry Hughes to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for inside linebacker Kelvin Sheppard.

Hughes was Indianapolis' first-round draft choice in 2010, and was selected with the No. 31 overall pick. Hughes never made a big impact with the Colts, and 2012 was his only productive season with Indianapolis. Hughes recorded 41 tackles and four sacks last season -- both career highs.

With the Colts in a 3-4 scheme, unlike the 4-3 scheme he was drafted to, Hughes was deemed expendable.

In return, Indianapolis received Kelvin Sheppard, who was selected in the third round of the 2011 draft by the Bills. Sheppard recorded 80 tackles and two sacks for Buffalo last season.

Jags to use former Michigan QB at running back

When the Jacksonville Jaguars selected former Michigan Wolverines quarterback and wide receiver Denard Robinson, it wasn't clear what position they'd deploy him at. The answer is now clear: running back.

Robinson's cameo as a wide receiver simply didn't go well late last season, and he doesn't possess the abilities to play quarterback at the NFL level. Robinson is a superb athlete, and ran a blistering 4.43 40-yard dash. Robinson displayed the ability to make defenders miss scrambling out of the pocket, and on designed running plays.

With Maurice Jones-Drew entering the final year of his contract, Robinson could see an extended look throughout training camp and throughout the 2013 season, giving the Jags' coaching staff and front office a strong look at the position going forward.

McKinnie visits Miami, will visit San Diego

Bryant McKinnie is still on the free-agent market -- but could soon find a new home. McKinnie visited the Miami Dolphins on Monday, as the Dolphins continue to look for a replacement for Jake Long. Miami lost long through free agency, and opted to trade up to select Dion Jordan in the 2013 NFL Draft, rather than Lane Johnson. The Dolphins were in trade talks with the Chiefs regarding Branden Albert, but a deal never materialized.

McKinnie spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Minnesota Vikings, before signing with the Baltimore Ravens prior to the 2011 season. McKinnie was a member of Baltimore's Super Bowl team in 2012, and has noted that he'd like to remain with the Ravens -- but only as a starter at left tackle.

Miami is the most logical landing spot for McKinnie. The Dolphins have a clear need at left tackle after Long signed with the Rams, and McKinnie wants to play left tackle. Solidifying Ryan Tannehill's blind side is paramount to Miami's success in 2013 -- and McKinnie, though unspectacular, is better than what the Dolphins currently have at that position.

Titans host Winston

The Tennessee Titans have made a concentrated effort to improve their offensive line this offseason, and it appears they are still looking to improve. Tennessee hosted free-agent tackle Eric Winston on Monday, just days after drafting Alabama guard Chance Warmack with the No. 10 overall pick.

Tennessee doesn't have a glaring need at right tackle with David Stewart still on its roster. Stewart carries a $7 million cap charge this season, and has a base salary of $5 million. Stewart has a player option for the 2014 season as well, and cutting him to sign Winston isn't likely.

The Titans, like any NFL team, could stand to use more depth at the offensive line. It's unclear if Winston is willing to sign with a team as a backup, but it doesn't appear to be a starting job for him in Nashville.

Tennessee also hosted defensive end Israel Idonije. Though 32 years old, Idonije is still playing at a high level. As a member of the Chicago Bears in 2012, Idonije recorded 48 tackles, including 7.5 sacks, and forced a fumble.

Idonjie's trip to Tennessee constitutes his first free-agent visit this offseason. The former Bears defensive end has also drawn interest from the 49ers, and has a standing offer to return to Chicago.

Romo will influence Dallas offense

Tony Romo signed a rich contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason, and is now being given more responsibility with the Cowboys. Romo, entrenched as Dallas' starting quarterback since 2006, will now meet with the coaching staff on Mondays and Tuesdays to help devise that week's offensive gameplan.

Dallas' curious move puts Romo under the microscope more in 2013 than at any point during his NFL career. Romo has been the center of criticism regarding Dallas' poor play and lackluster finishes in recent seasons, fairly or unfairly, and will now be responsible for devising Dallas' offensive attack on a weekly basis.

If the Cowboys fail to block for Romo and running back DeMarco Murray, then the team simply will sputter out to another mediocre season -- which will undoubtedly result in even more criticism levied on Romo.

The Cowboys have done little to improve their offensive line, but did draft center Travis Frederick with the No. 31 overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Orlando Franklin injury: Broncos OT expected back for training camp

Denver Broncos right tackle Orlando Franklin is expected to miss organized team activities throughout the summer, but will be ready for the start of training camp in July, according to The Denver Post.

Franklin is recovering from offseason toe surgery, joining a list of battered Broncos linemen that includes Ryan Clady, J.D. Walton and Chris Kuper -- each of whom are coming off of offseason surgery.

Last season, Franklin graded out as the sixth-best right tackle in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. Denver is considering moving Franklin to guard -- despite his success as a tackle -- because of concern over Kuper's ankles. If Kuper proves he is healthy, then Franklin will likely remain at right tackle.

Continuity on the offensive line is a plus in the NFL -- especially if the line is strong. Denver's line is strong -- and should be in 2013, even though four of its members are recovering from offseason procedures.

In addition to injuries, Denver is dealing with a potential holdout in Clady on the offensive line. Clady wants a long-term contract, but was instead given the one-year franchise tag.

2013 NFL Draft grades: Jaguars, Titans lead AFC South

Two teams from the AFC South made the playoffs last season, as the Indianapolis Colts went from worst-to-second, earning a wild card berth, while the Houston Texans captured their second-consecutive division title. The Jaguars and Titans have plenty of work to do if they're to catch the Colts and Texans and both came through with strong 2013 draft classes.

While the jury will remain out for years on the 2013 draft class, NFL analysts and draftniks submitted grades for each team in the league just days after the draft concluded. Mel Kiper, Chris Burke and Rob Rang are three of the many who delivered draft grades, and here's a look at how the trio graded the AFC South.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Kiper: B+
Burke: A
Rang: B

Almost every mock draft throughout the entire draft process had Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel projected to be the No. 1 overall pick of the draft, but Joeckel fell to No. 2, where the Jaguars promptly scooped him up. Jacksonville addressed its defensive needs as well, selecting safety Johnathan Cyprien in the second round before selecting UConn cornerback Dwyane Gratz in the third. The Jaguars added some offensive firepower in Ace Sanders and Denard Robinson in the middle rounds before drafting three cornerbacks to end the draft.

Tennessee Titans

Kiper: B+
Burke: A-
Rang: B+

Chris Johnson is smiling somewhere. The Titans continued to address their offensive line through the draft, despite signing guard Andy Levitre earlier this offseason. Tennessee used its top pick on Alabama guard Chance Warmack before using its second-round pick on wide receiver Justin Hunter. The Titans addressed the defensive side of the ball as well, selecting UConn cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson and Missouri linebacker Zaviar Gooden in the third round.

Indianapolis Colts

Kiper: C+
Burke: C
Rang: B

Indianapolis drew criticism for its first-round pick, Bjoern Werner, and how he fits as a 3-4 outside linebacker. NFL draftniks and analysts believe Werner is better suited for a 4-3 defense, but the Colts went ahead and made him the No. 24 pick anyway. The Colts used their third and fourth-round picks on offensive linemen, selecting guard Hugh Thornton and center Khaled Holmes. Indianapolis passed on drafting a wide receiver or cornerback in this draft, a move that could haunt the Colts, as Indianapolis could use more depth at those positions.

Houston Texans

Kiper: B
Burke: B
Rang: A-

At last, the Texans have a wide receiver to start opposite Andre Johnson. Houston used its first-round pick on Clemson wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, addressing its biggest need right away. The Texans used their second-round pick on South Carolina safety D.J. Swearinger, who will have a chance to develop under future Hall-of-Fame safety Ed Reed's tutelage. Houston focused on the trenches in the middle rounds, using its third and fourth-round picks on offensive tackle Brennan Williams and defensive ends Sam Montgomery and Trevardo Williams.

2013 NFL Draft grades: Falcons, Saints top NFC South classes

The balance of power in the NFC South shifted last season, with the Falcons running away with the division en route to the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs. The Saints, Buccaneers and Panthers all made moves in the offseason trying to catch up with the Falcons -- but only time will tell if it's enough.

Mel Kiper Jr., Chris Burke and Rob Rang all posted their grades for the 2013 draft class. Here's how they view what transpired in the NFC South over the weekend.

Carolina Panthers

Kiper: C+
Burke: C
Rang: B

The Panthers were fortunate to have Star Lotulelei fall to them with the No. 14 overall pick, but after that, the Panthers only made four more selections -- missing their third and seventh-round picks. Carolina did well to address its defensive needs with Lotuelei and Kawaan Short, but the consensus appears to be that the Panthers should have addressed the secondary as well -- and that fourth-round selection Edmund Kugbila, a guard from Valdosta State, is a head-scratcher.

New Orleans Saints

Kiper: B
Burke: C
Rang: B-

New Orleans drafted former Texas Longhorns safety Kenny Vaccaro, widely regarded as the top safety in the draft class, with the No. 15 overall pick, helping bolster its paltry defense. While the selection of Vaccaro earns universal praise, the rest of the draft is somewhat divisive. New Orleans did not have a second-round pick because of the bounty scandal, hurting its draft class. Both Kiper and Rang praise New Orleans' second third-round pick, Jon Jenkins, believing he can be a difference-maker immediately.

Atlanta Falcons

Kiper: B
Burke:B
Rang: B

It's safe to say the Falcons had an above-average, but not spectacular draft class, as all three analysts give the Falcons a B. Atlanta moved up in the first round to draft Desmond Trufant, and added another cornerback, Robert Alford, in the second round. Six of Atlanta's eight picks were defensive, as the Falcons also selected two defensive ends and two safeties in the draft as well. The Falcons entered the draft needing to improve their defense -- and did just that.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Kiper: B
Burke: C
Rang: C+

Tampa Bay traded its first-round pick to the New York Jets in exchange for All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis -- a move that isn't reflected in Tampa Bay's draft class. The Buccaneers continued to boost their secondary in the second round, selecting former Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks with the No. 43 overall pick. The Bucs used their third-rounder on Mike Glennon, before focusing on defense again with Akeem Spence, William Gholston and Steven Means.

NFL Draft 2013: Eagles' Chip Kelly considered Dion Jordan at No. 4

The Philadelphia Eagles selected left tackle Lane Johnson with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, the first pick of Chip Kelly's NFL career. If the Miami Dolphins didn't trade up for the No. 3 overall pick, Kelly's pick could have been different, as the former Oregon Ducks head coach "heavily considered" former Oregon defensive end Dion Jordan, according to USA Today.

The Dolphins surrendered the No. 12 and No. 42 overall picks in exchange for the No. 3 pick, which they used on Jordan. The Raiders used those two picks to select D.J. Hayden and Menelik Watson.

Kelly and the Eagles considered moving up to thwart the Dolphins, but deemed the price too steep. Philadelphia would have needed to surrender its third-round pick to move up one spot from No. 4 overall to No. 3 overall, according to USA Today, and that price simply was too high for the Eagles' new staff.

"When you start to get getting emotionally involved, and I was very conscious of that, then what do you have to do to move up?" Kelly said. "If you move up to get him, then that means you don't get Bennie Logan because you don't have a third-round pick or you don't get Matt Barkley because you don't have a fourth-round pick. It's the accumulation of putting the whole team together. It's saying, 'What are you willing to sacrifice to get one player?'

Had Miami, who needs a left tackle, traded up for Fisher, it appears likely that Jordan would have traded his Oregon green for Philadelphia green.

Branden Albert trade rumors: Chiefs aim for 2014 2nd-round pick

Even though the 2013 NFL Draft has come and gone, Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert remains on the trade block. Kansas City was rumored to want a 2013 second-round pick in exchange for Albert, but are now looking for a 2014 second-round pick, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Miami was rumored to be Albert's top suitor. The Dolphins lost starting left tackle Jake Long in free agency to the St. Louis Rams and have yet to replace him. Miami was reportedly willing to meet Albert's contract demands, but was reluctant to meet Kansas City's trade demands of a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Dolphins entered the 2013 draft with two second-round selections, but instead of trading for Albert, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland packaged one of his two second-round picks in a trade with the Oakland Raiders, moving up from No. 12 to No. 3 in order to select Dion Jordan.

Ireland stated after the draft that he didn't think trading for Albert was "the right thing for the Dolphins," according to the Miami Herald, but didn't rule out trading for Albert in the future.

In addition to the Dolphins, the Lions, Chargers and Cardinals all have a need at left tackle and all could be willing to send Kansas City a second-round pick in exchange for Albert.

Albert is deemed expendable by Kansas City's coaching staff and front office after the Chiefs selected Eric Fisher with the No. 1 overall pick. The Chiefs were hoping to receive a second-round pick in the 2013 draft in exchange for Albert, after sending their own second-rounder to San Francisco in exchange for quarterback Alex Smith.

Kansas City placed the franchise tag on Albert at the beginning of the offseason, ensuring that Albert will earn nearly $10 million in 2013 unless a long-term deal is reached.

2013 NFL Draft results: Dolphins make 2 more picks

The fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft is near its end, and the Miami Dolphins made another pair of selections. The Dolphins selected former Florida Gators running back Mike Gillislee and former Gators kicker Caleb Sturgis with their third and fourth picks on Saturday.

Gillislee is the second offensive player selected by the Dolphins on Saturday, joining former Michigan State tight end Dion Sims, who the Dolphins drafted in the fourth round. The former Gators running back is a solid between-the-tackles runner, but isn't likely to find success bouncing runs outside in the NFL.

Miami's selection of Sturgis will create competition during training camp for Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter. Carpenter converted 22-of-27 field goals in 2012.

Chicago and Green Bay focused on the trenches, selecting an offensive and defensive lineman, respectively, while Detroit also focused on special teams.

2013 NFL Draft results: Bills, Saints make 5th-round picks

The fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft is underway, and we're seeing an emphasis on defense. Four of the last five picks have been defensive players.

The Bills added their second safety of the day, selecting former Clemson Tiger Jonathan Meeks. Buffalo took former Nevada safety Duke Williams with the eighth pick of the fourth round earlier on Saturday. With the explosive Patriots in the division, and a revamped Dolphins offense, Bills head coach Doug Marrone opted to address his defense on the third day of the draft.

The New Orleans Saints bucked the defensive trend by selecting former Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Kenny Stills.

2013 NFL Draft results: Packers trade up, select Johnathan Franklin

The latest fourth-round picks of the 2013 NFL Draft are in -- and the Green Bay Packers made their third fourth-round pick after completing a trade with the Denver Broncos.

Green Bay selected UCLA running back Johnathan Franklin with the No. 125 pick, giving Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay's offense another weapon. Franklin is the second running back selected by the Packers in the draft, as Green Bay selected Alabama running back Eddie Lacy in the second round. The Packers averaged just 106.4 yards per game rushing last season -- 20th in the NFL.

Seattle also addressed offense, adding former Kansas State wide receiver Chris Harper with the No. 123 overall pick. The Texans, Buccaneers and Falcons focused on defense, as the fourth round nears completion.

2013 NFL Draft results: Cardinals, Dolphins address defense

The next five picks of the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft are in. The Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills all addressed defensive needs in the fourth round.

Arizona selected former Texas Longhorns defensive end Alex Okafor, as new head coach Bruce Arians continues to revamp his defense. The Cardinals selected Kevin Minter and Tyrann Mathieu during the second day of the draft, making Okafor the third defensive pick by Arizona.

Burnt Orange Nation believes Okafor stacks up well with some of the best players in the draft.

[Okafor is] a player who has some limitations out of his two-point and three-point stances that may be a result of some hip stiffness, but can rip and club and bullrush from a four-point stance with the best players in the draft.

Miami added two players early in the fourth round, selecting former Florida Gators OLB Jelani Jenkins, and former Michigan State tight end Dion Sims.

Raiders draft rumors: D.J. Hayden could be the pick if Oakland stays put

If the Oakland Raiders hold onto the No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, they could make a surprise pick. Several executives throughout the NFL believe that the Raiders will select former Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden with the third pick in the draft, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.

Oakland has been consistently linked to former Florida Gators defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd leading up to the draft, but the Raiders' interest in Floyd could simply be a smokescreen. In SB Nation's latest mock draft, the Raiders are projected to take Floyd, while Hayden is projected to be selected by the New England Patriots with the No. 29 pick.

Dee Milliner is regarded as the top cornerback available in the 2013 draft class, but concerns over recent surgeries slightly dampened Milliner's draft stock in the last week. Milliner insists he'll be ready for training camp and pledges to aggressively rehab his shoulder as soon as he's drafted.

While Milliner's stock was dampened, Hayden's stock appeared to be on the rise. Sports Illustrated's Peter King noted that Hayden could be the consensus top cornerback in the entire draft.

Hayden would still be viewed as a reach at No. 3 overall. SB Nation's Dan Kadar ranked the top 200 prospects in this year's draft class, and he ranked Hayden as the No. 76 player available -- and ranked him as the 10th-best cornerback available.

If the Raiders truly believe he's the best cornerback in the draft -- as King suggests -- then it seems like it's a legitimate possibility that they'll select him with the No. 3 overall pick. Oakland would be well served to trade down in the first round, however, and gain extra picks in the process, since Hayden will likely be available in the back half of the top 10 -- if not in the top 15 or 20.

The Raiders have been linked in trade talks recently with the Detroit Lions. The Lions hold the No. 5 pick in the draft, and Hayden would certainly be available at No. 5 -- if the Raiders choose to trade down.

Oakland does not have a second- or fifth-round pick headed into the draft and would certainly look to add mid-round picks in any type of trade regarding the No. 3 pick.

Ryan Mallett rumors: Browns not interested in Patriots QB, per report

The Cleveland Browns have been linked to New England Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett throughout the offseason, but the Browns are not interested in trading for Mallett, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. This comes after reports emerged Thursday that the Patriots were listening to trade offers.

Cleveland general manager Michael Lombardi praised Mallett prior to the 2011 draft, saying he believed Mallett would be one of the most successful quarterbacks from the 2011 draft class. As Tom Brady's backup in New England, Mallett hasn't received much playing time in his brief NFL career.

The Browns selected Brandon Weeden out of Oklahoma State with the No. 22 pick of the 2012 NFL Draft -- but Cleveland's current front office may not agree with that decision. Last season, as a 29-year-old rookie, Weeden completed 57.4 percent of his passes for 3,385 yards, while throwing 14 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Though Weeden wasn't surrounded with much talent offensively, his numbers and play were still underwhelming. Lombardi termed Cleveland's selection of Weeden last offseason as a "panicked disaster" while working for the NFL Network as an analyst.

Lombardi's comments last offseason lead many to believe that Cleveland does not yet have its long-term answer at quarterback. The Browns traded Colt McCoy to the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason and signed Jason Campbell to back up Weeden.

With Brady signing a five-year contract extension with the Patriots, Mallett has become even more expendable. New England enters the 2013 NFL Draft with just five selections -- with only three picks falling in the top 200. The Patriots are believed to want a second-round pick in return for Mallett, but so far have yet to receive such an offer.

Mallett-to-Cleveland rumors seemed to make sense -- especially given Lombardi's affinity of Mallett two years ago. Mallett possesses a strong arm that would be well-suited for Rob Chudzinski's offense.

The Browns forfeited their second-round pick last year when they selected Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon in the second round of the 2012 Supplemental Draft. Cleveland could opt to trade down from No. 6 overall and acquire a second-round pick in the process -- but if the Browns do so, it apparently won't be with the intention of trading for Mallett.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback isn't worried about his shoulder, and insists that he will be "perfectly fine for training camp," according to The Star-Ledger.

Milliner said that he'll start "rehabbing hard" after the draft.

In SB Nation's latest mock draft, Milliner is projected to be taken No. 6 overall by the Cleveland Browns. It's unlikely that Milliner will fall out of the top half of the draft, and it seems probable that Milliner will end up as a top-10 pick on Thursday night.

At 6-foot, Milliner has the necessary size to be an impact cornerback in the NFL. He also possesses excellent closing speed and has a high football acumen. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Milliner as the No. 4 prospect in the 2013 NFL Draft, while SB Nation's Dan Kadar slotted Milliner as the No. 6 prospect in this year's draft class.

Reports over the last week surfaced that Milliner's draft stock could fall because his recent injuries. However, 22 teams throughout the league still grade Milliner as the draft's top cornerback, despite health concerns.

2013 NFL draft team needs: Miami Dolphins

It's been tough sledding for the Miami Dolphins over the last 12 seasons. Since 2002, Tom Brady's first full season as a starting quarterback, the Dolphins have made the playoffs one time -- in 2008, when Brady was out for the season with a torn ACL.

Much to his credit, Jeff Ireland has given Dolphins fans reason to hope in recent years. For the first time since Dan Marino was under center, it appears Miami has its franchise quarterback in Ryan Tannehill -- selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Ireland and Miami's front office have been the most active team in free agency this offseason, signing Mike Wallace, Danelle Ellerbe, Dustin Keller and Brent Grimes among others. Miami will need to use the draft address short and long-term team needs if they're going to challenge New England in the near future.

Top three needs

Defensive end - Cameron Wake has recorded 43 sacks over the last four seasons, and could be even more dangerous if paired with another strong defensive end.

Offensive tackle - Miami lost former No. 1 overall pick Jake Long in free agency to the St. Louis Rams. If Miami doesn't trade for Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert, the Dolphins will need to draft a tackle to replace Long.

Cornerback - In addition to Long, the Dolphins also lost top cornerback Sean Smith in free agency. Though Miami signed Grimes, the Dolphins need help at the cornerback position -- and could use a cornerback with size.

Ideal pick: Xavier Rhodes, DB, Florida State

NFL Draft 2013: Ziggy Ansah could land in top 5

Former BYU defensive end Ezekiel Ansah is skipping his commencement to attend the 2013 NFL Draft -- and Ansah could hear his name called within the first five picks, according to NFL.com's Albert Breer.

Ansah isn't likely to be selected with either of the top two picks. Either Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick -- with Joeckel appearing to be the likely choice for the Chiefs. Jacksonville holds the No. 2 pick and has needs on both sides of the ball. The Jaguars have been linked to a number of prospects, including Fisher, Dion Jordan and Geno Smith, so it seems unlikely that Ansah will be Jacksonville's pick.

The Raiders hold the No. 3 pick, and have been linked to former Florida Gators defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd. In SB Nation's latest mock draft, Ansah slips all the way to No. 10 -- but that might not be the case on Thursday night.

The Detroit Lions, with needs on both sides of the ball, favor Ansah, according to Breer. Detroit holds the No. 4 pick in the draft, and Ansah will almost certainly be available for the Lions at No. 4.

Perhaps Detroit's most pressing need is at offensive tackle, after long-time tackle Jeff Backus retired following 2012. If Fisher is off the board before Detroit picks, the Lions could be tempted to select Ansah with the No. 4 pick, as the Lions also have a pressing need at defensive end -- especially after losing Cliff Avril in free agency.

Ansah will only have to wait another day to see where he's selected, as the first round of the NFL Draft is set to begin on Thursday night.

NFL Draft rumors 2013: Ravens could trade up for Lane Johnson

The Baltimore Ravens are still attempting to upgrade their offensive line, specifically at left tackle. Armed with 12 picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, Baltimore could trade up to select former Oklahoma Sooners left tackle Lane Johnson, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Former Ravens left tackle Bryant McKinnie remains a free agent, and he has voiced his willingness to return to Baltimore -- but on his terms, and as a starter. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome hasn't ruled out the possibility of re-signing McKinnie, either, but it's clear that Baltimore would rather find a long-term solution, and Johnson appears to be a long-term solution.

As with any personnel move in the NFL, much depends on the cost. If the Ravens can trade up for Johnson at a reasonable cost, then it seems likely that Newsome will pull the trigger.

Baltimore enters the 2013 NFL Draft with 12 selections. Baltimore has one pick at the bottom of each of the first three rounds, and then has two fourth-round picks, two fifth-round picks, three sixth-round picks and two seventh-round picks. Only the San Francisco 49ers have more picks in the 2013 NFL Draft.

In SB Nation's latest mock draft, Johnson fell out of the top 10, all the way to No. 11. If such a slide occurs on Thursday night, Newsome and the Ravens could very well attempt to trade up.

Baltimore currently has Michael Oher and Kelechi Osemele on its roster competing at left tackle. Since the Ravens are considering bringing McKinnie back, it's clear that Newsome and the coaching staff aren't comfortable with the current options on the roster.

The Ravens gave Joe Flacco the richest deal in NFL history earlier this offseason, and protecting that asset is one of Baltimore's top priorities. If Baltimore is fortunate enough to trade up at a reasonable price in order to select Johnson, then it's simply another case of the rich getting richer.

Before reports surfaced regarding Milliner's surgeries, he was considered the top cornerback in the draft, leading many draftniks and fans wondering how the injury news would affect his draft stock. Milliner's stock, however, appears to be unaffected, as 22 teams still rate the former Alabama standout as the top cornerback in the class.

That the majority of NFL teams still rank Milliner as the top cornerback likely signifies that teams throughout the league already knew about Milliner's injury history, and that his raw talent is just that much better than other cornerbacks in this draft class.

SB Nation's Dan Kadar ranked Milliner the sixth-best prospect in the 2013 NFL Draft two weeks ago -- prior to Milliner's injury history becoming public. Just days ago, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Milliner as the No. 4 prospect in the draft class, lauding his football smarts and "raw football skills."

Milliner is projected to go No. 6 overall to the Cleveland Browns in SB Nation's latest mock draft. Former Florida State Seminoles cornerback Xavier Rhodes is the only other cornerback projected to go in the first round, at No. 29 overall to the New England Patriots.

Teams throughout the NFL have just two days remaining to prepare for the 2013 NFL Draft -- and as football fans have come to expect, the days leading up to the draft are full of news and rumors.

Here's a look at the latest news throughout the NFL, as teams and fans alike get ready for the first round of the draft on Thursday.

Tackles could be top two picks

Two franchise-altering quarterbacks were selected with the top two picks of the 2012 NFL Draft, as Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III galvanized their respective fanbases. Quarterbacks will not fly off the board 1-2 at the 2013 NFL Draft, and it's expected that two offensive linemen will be the first two players selected.

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to take Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel with the No. 1 overall pick. Kansas City has been linked to Joeckel throughout the entire draft process, making the pick rather unsurprising.

Jacksonville holds the No. 2 overall pick, and the Jaguars reportedly are eyeing Eric Fisher with the selection. The Jaguars had been linked to a number of prospects leading up to the draft, including West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith and Oregon defensive end Dion Jordan.

New Jaguars general manager David Caldwell may opt for the safe pick in Fisher rather than gambling on a high risk game-changer. Fisher appears to have a high ceiling on the offensive line -- but Jacksonville has more pressing needs, including the defensive line, where the top prospects in the draft will be available at No. 2 overall.

Lattimore believes he can play in Week 1

Former South Carolina Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore believes he will be able to play in Week 1, despite suffering a torn ACL, LCL and dislocated kneecap late last October.

Lattimore has drawn notable interest from the 49ers, Eagles, Rams and Patriots -- and could find himself taken as high as the second round.

San Francisco makes the most sense, as the 49ers have an abundance of draft picks, and an aging Frank Gore was the team's leading rusher last season. Of all the teams in the league, perhaps no franchise is better suited than San Francisco to roll the dice on the rehabbing running back.

Prior to Lattimore's latest injury, he was pegged as a first-round talent. If he recovers fully, Lattimore could end up providing excellent value to a team willing to take a chance on him.

Saints, Raiders attempting to trade down

When the NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday night, the chances are high that there will be multiple draft day trades, as teams will attempt to move up and move down in the draft depending on what players fly off the board.

The New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders are two teams interested in trading down in the NFL Draft. Oakland possesses the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, but has needs all throughout the roster. If the Raiders are able to receive multiple picks in exchange for the No. 3 overall pick, then it's likely a draft-day trade will be consummated. Oakland doesn't have a second-round pick, and would likely aim to acquire a first and second in exchange for the No. 3 overall pick.

New Orleans is short on picks this year as well, because of penalties levied by the NFL stemming from New Orleans' bounty scandal. With the No. 15 overall pick, the Saints could receive a handful of picks in return -- both this year, and in future years.

Tennessee to keep Washington

Tennessee Titans general manager Ruston Webster denied trade rumors involving Titans wide receiver Nate Washington, telling reporters that he is not shopping the 6'1 receiver.

Washington had a down year in 2012 and reportedly fell out of favor with Tennessee's coaching staff after a rough season. Washington caught just 46 passes for 746 yards and four touchdowns. Kenny Britt and Kendall Wright are expected to land ahead of Washington on Tennessee's depth chart next fall.

With a $4.2 million base salary in 2013, Washington isn't likely to attract many suitors -- especially since Washington will turn 30 this summer.

If Washington is willing to restructure his contract, the Titans could potentially swing a draft-day trade. Washington likely wouldn't fetch more than a late-round pick, so it seems more likely that the Titans will hang onto the 6'1 deep threat.

Uni watch: Jaguars unveil new uniforms; Dolphins, Vikings unis leaked

2012 wasn't kind to Florida football, as the Buccaneers, Dolphins and Jaguars all struggled. The last week, however, has been exciting if you're a Florida football fan: the Buccaneers acquired All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis from the Jets, the Jaguars have the No. 2 pick, and the Dolphins are poised to continue their spending spree through the draft -- and maybe through a Branden Albert trade.

The Dolphins and Jaguars are getting a branding reboot, too. The Jaguars unveiled their new uniforms today, ushering in a new era of Jacksonville football. Perhaps the most striking feature of Jacksonville's new uniforms are the dual-colored, faded helmets. The Jaguars will wear three jerseys in 2013: a teal, white and black jersey.

Miami hasn't officially unveiled its new uniforms yet, but a sneak peak at Miami's new uniforms -- and Minnesota's -- was captured on Tuesday. The Dolphins' new uniforms features less orange, and, of course, a new logo on their helmets.

Minnesota's uniform changes are subtle -- and casual fans may not even take notice. The Vikings did away with the stripes down the side of the jersey, as well as the yellow outline around the numbers.

Tennessee Titans general manager Ruston Webster downplayed trade rumors on Tuesday, maintaining that wide receiver Nate Washington is unavailable, according to Terry McCormick.

Washington is entering his age-30 season, and is coming off of a disappointing 2012 campaign. Last season, Washington caught just 46 passes for 746 yards and four touchdowns. In 2011, Washington caught 74 passes for 1,023 yards and seven touchdowns.

Owed a base salary of $4.2 million in 2013, Washington isn't a particularly attractive option for other teams in the league to consider trading for. The 6'1 receiver will likely enter the 2012 season behind both Kenny Britt and Kendall Wright on the Titans' depth chart.

Webster's statement regarding Washington's availability should be taken with a grain of salt. General managers often downplay and deny rumors for deals that end up coming to fruition -- such as Percy Harvin and Darrelle Revis.

Unlike Harvin and Revis, Washington isn't a hot commodity and likely won't fetch more than a late-round pick -- if anything.

Washington could benefit from a change of scenery, and reports surfaced earlier this offseason that Washington would rather be released than traded. It doesn't appear that Washington is on his way out of Tennessee -- but with just over four months until Week 1, anything can happen.

2013 NFL Draft team needs: Detroit Lions

After a decade of futility, the Detroit Lions returned to the playoffs in 2011, thanks to the explosive duo of Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson. Detroit took a step back in 2012, however, finishing the season in last place in the NFC North with a 4-12 record.

Detroit lost Cliff Avril in free agency, but did sign Reggie Bush, Glover Quin and Jason Jones. Quin and Bush address immediate needs, and will help the Lions in 2013 -- but the Lions still need a strong draft class if they're going to challenge the Packers in the NFC North.

Top three needs

Defensive end - The Lions only have three defensive ends under contract, and the recently-signed Jones is the only one of the three to record a sack last season. Avril had 9.5 sacks for Detroit last season, and the Lions need to replace his production.

Offensive guard - Detroit's offensive line will look considerably different in 2013 than it did in 2012, as three members of Detroit's offensive line from a year ago are no longer with the team. Detroit needs to protect its prized quarterback, and need to fortify the offensive line to do so.

Offensive tackle - The Lions lost Jeff Backus to retirement this offseason, creating a void at left tackle. Backus was a stalwart on Detroit's offensive line for 12 seasons, and missed just two games in his entire career -- both in 2012.

Ideal pick: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU

2013 NFL Draft team needs: Oakland Raiders

Once a model of excellence, the Oakland Raiders turned into the laughing stock of the NFL after losing Super Bowl XXXVII to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since 2003, the Raiders have gone 49-111, and have lost at least 11 games in eight of the past 10 seasons.

Oakland's offseason to date hasn't been inspiring, but at the least, the Raiders rid themselves of Carson Palmer, and acquired Matt Flynn from the Seahawks. The Raiders still have plenty of holes to fill and, as a cash-strapped team, Oakland's front office will need to utilize the draft to rebuild its roster's core.

Top three needs

Defensive tackle - Oakland released Tommy Kelly earlier this offseason, who never lived up to expectations after signing a seven-year, $50.5 million contract in 2008. The Raiders desperately need a strong presence on the defensive line.

Cornerback - The Raiders signed veterans Michael Jenkins and Tracy Porter this offseason, but neither figures to be more than a short-term fix at the position. Opposing quarterbacks threw for over 235 yards-per-game against the Raiders last season -- and with Peyton Manning and Phillip Rivers in the division, the Raiders need to improve in the secondary.

Tight end - The Giants signed Brandon Myers away from Oakland in free agency, leaving the Raiders with a major void at the tight end position. Oakland presently has David Ausberry, Richard Gordon and Mickey Shuler as tight ends on its roster.

Ideal pick: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida

Branden Albert trade rumors: Chiefs talking to Dolphins, Cardinals

Branden Albert and the Miami Dolphins had negotiations for a long-term contract over the weekend -- and the Dolphins are willing to meet Albert's asking price, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Albert is seeking a contract similar to Duane Brown's, who signed a seven-year contract with an average annual value just north of $8 million.

The Kansas City Chiefs are shopping Albert to teams throughout the league in advance of the 2013 NFL Draft, and are reportedly seeking a second-round draft pick for Albert. Kansas City placed the franchise tag on Albert earlier this offseason, preventing him from reaching free agency -- but it appears to be unlikely that Albert will play again for Kansas City.

The Chiefs are expected to take either Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel or Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher with the No. 1 overall pick -- replacing Albert. Albert stated earlier this offseason that he does not wish to move to right tackle, making a trade the only reality for Kansas City -- assuming they take Fisher or Joeckel as expected.

If the Chiefs and Dolphins come to an agreement, Albert will replace Jake Long in Miami. Long signed a long-term contract with the St. Louis Rams earlier this offseason, creating a void on Miami's offensive line. Albert is a more-than-adequate replacement for Long -- and given Long's deteriorating play in recent years, Albert could be viewed as an upgrade. Albert graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 25 offensive lineman last season.

Miami isn't the only team interested in acquiring Albert. The Arizona Cardinals discussed a potential Albert trade according to XTRA 910's Mike Jurecki. Unlike the Dolphins, the Cardinals only have one second-round draft pick -- the No. 38 overall pick in the draft. Arizona needs to improve its offensive line -- especially with the aging Carson Palmer at quarterback.

The Dolphins currently hold two second-round draft picks -- the No. 42 and No. 54 overall picks in the NFL Draft. Kansas City traded its second-round pick to the 49ers earlier this offseason in exchange for quarterback Alex Smith. It's unknown which pick the Chiefs would receive from the Dolphins if a trade is agreed upon in the coming days.

Miami is now waiting on Kansas City to decide whether or not the No. 54 pick is enough compensation for Albert, according to Rapoport.

With a glaring need for a new starting left tackle for the Dolphins, a trade makes too much sense not to happen at this point -- especially if the Dolphins will meet Albert's contract demands.

2013 NFL draft rumors: Reid Fragel works out with Bengals

Former Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Reid Fragel worked out for the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday according to NBC's Pro Football Talk -- though it's difficult to gauge how sincere Cincinnati's interest is.

The Bengals have two second-round draft choices thanks to the Carson Palmer trade, but selecting Fragel in the second round could be viewed as a reach. SB Nation's Dan Kadar ranked Fragel as this draft's No. 110 prospect -- with plenty of offensive linemen ahead of him.

Fragel spent three years as a tight end with the Buckeyes before converting to an offensive tackle in 2012. Fragel started all 12 games as Ohio State's right tackle in 2012, and was an honorable mention to the All-Big Ten team in just his first season at the position.

The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy wrote about Cincinnati's potential interest in Fragel weeks ago on Apr. 8, and concluded that Fragel appears to be a late-round pick who "could pay dividends in a couple years."

As a very raw prospect, Fragel will require patience from whoever drafts him -- but it's clear that the former Ohio State tackle can succeed on the offensive line.

Rolando McClain ruins perfect opportunity with Baltimore Ravens

Eleven days. Eleven days is all it took for Rolando McClain to risk a new start with the Baltimore Ravens.

McClain was arrested on Sunday night in Decatur, Ala., and charged with disorderly conduct. In the grand scheme of things, McClain didn't do much: he allegedly refused to follow a police officer's orders to leave Pines Park, and began swearing at authorities, leading to his arrest.

If this were McClain's first time on the wrong side of the law, it would simply be a footnote to his football story. Unfortunately, it's not.

McClain enjoyed an illustrious collegiate career with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Under Nick Saban's tutelage, McClain was the top linebacker in the country as a junior in 2009, winning both the Butkus and Lambert Awards, in addition to being named an unanimous All-American.

Saban, McClain and the Crimson Tide would go on and win the BCS title in 2010, prompting McClain to forego his senior season and enter the 2010 NFL Draft.

The Oakland Raiders drafted McClain with the No. 8 overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft -- making McClain the highest-drafted Alabama linebacker since 1990, when the Buccaneers selected Keith McCants.

Oakland's selection of McClain was viewed as a reach by some at the time, though not to the same extent as Oakland's selection of Darrius Heyward-Bey. ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper ranked McClain No. 9 on the second version of his "big board" prior to the draft, and had McClain pegged as the top inside linebacker in the entire draft class.

The Raiders drafted McClain with the hope that he would stabilize Oakland's run defense. McClain was praised for his "exceptional instincts."

Unfortunately, McClain didn't help the Raiders much on the field. During his rookie campaign, he recorded 85 tackles, and improved in his sophomore year, recording 99 tackles and five sacks -- but McClain's 2011 numbers simply don't tell his whole story.

In Dec. 2011, McClain was arrested and eventually found guilty on third-degree assault, menacing, discharging a firearm and reckless endangerment charges stemming from a shooting incident in Decatur. McClain put his pistol next to a victim's head, and despite the victim begging McClain not to shoot, McClain discharged his firearm next to the victim's ear.

McClain was sentenced to 180 days in prison, but filed an appeal -- and the charges were eventually dropped in 2012. McClain and the victim likely reached a sizable settlement -- a price worth paying for McClain in order to avoid jail time, and a suspension from the NFL.

Despite having charges dropped against him, McClain struggled in 2012, and was eventually benched by Raiders head coach Dennis Allen after poor play. McClain brought his off-the-field temperament to an Oakland practice in November, and was kicked out of practice because of an "incident."

McClain took to Facebook to voice his displeasure, writing that he's "no longer an Oakland Raider," while still collecting paychecks from the Raiders organization.

After Oakland's season ended, McClain was arrested -- again. And again, the incident happened in Decatur. An officer pulled McClain over for a window tint violation. McClain provided a false name to the police officer, leading to his second arrest in 13 months.

It took nearly four months, and a second arrest, but McClain received his wish: the Raiders released him in March. Through three seasons the league saw McClain's pass-coverage abilities exposed and his off-the-field incidents highlighted.

Even though McClain's record indicates that he's a liability off and on the field, the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens took a chance on him. And why not? Baltimore lost several key members of its defense this offseason, and McClain did show signs of life as a football player early in 2012.

Though Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are gone, Baltimore couldn't have been a better landing spot for McClain. It's a model organization that knows how to win. It's also an organization synonymous with defense -- and getting the most out of its players. Ozzie Newsome was willing to absolve McClain of his off-the-field sins and give the former Crimson Tide linebacker a chance at redemption.

Instead, it took McClain just 11 days to find himself handcuffed yet again.

Once known as a great leader with Alabama, McClain's fall from grace leaves him at the mercy of the Ravens and the NFL. Baltimore is doing its due diligence on McClain's third arrest. McClain's contract does not include guaranteed money, making it easier for the Ravens to release him. At this point, however, McClain is left waiting and wondering whether he ruined the opportunity before him.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam sued by trucking company

Cleveland Browns owner and Pilot Flying J owner Jimmy Haslam is being sued by Atlantic Coast Carriers in a class-action lawsuit, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The lawsuit accuses Haslam and his company of racketeering, and that Pilot Flying J "benefited from inaccurate rebate procedures for certain clients."

Atlantic Coast Carriers is a small trucking company based out of Georgia. After an investigation, an FBI agent in an affidavit is on record saying that Haslam knew about the fraudulent nature of Pilot Flying J, but did nothing to correct its behavior.

Haslam denied any wrongdoing.

Pilot Flying J is accused of withholding promised rebates to its clients. SB Nation's Ryan Van Bibber summarized what Haslam's company is accused of doing late last week.

Pilot and its commercial trucking customers enter into agreements to purchase fuel. As part of the deal, Pilot offers its customers rebates or discounts on diesel purchased in volume. Companies buy it on credit extended by Pilot itself, and Pilot sends them bills reflecting the agreed-upon discount. Other companies buy the fuel using credit from a third party. Those customers usually get their discounts in the form of rebate checks.

According to the FBI and IRS, Pilot was intentionally withholding rebates and discounts from unsuspecting customers to increase its overall profits and up the commissions of its sales team.

Unfortunately for the NFL and for Browns fans, this story is likely only at its inception -- with lots of litigation to follow.

2013 NFL Draft: Networks agree not to tweet picks

ESPN and the NFL Network will have extensive coverage of the 2013 NFL Draft and both networks have agreed to prevent employees from tweeting draft picks before NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announces them, according to Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch.

Twitter's increasing popularity has dampened the mystique of the NFL Draft to some fans throughout the league. Instead of waiting for Goodell to announce the next pick, fans can often head to Twitter minutes in advance to see who will be selected. Essentially, Twitter served as a spoiler in years past for the NFL Draft.

The agreement is only valid for the first two rounds.

ESPN NFL senior coordinating producer Seth Markman believes the no-tweeting edict is the right thing for NFL fans and for his network.

"The majority of the people we have heard from say they prefer not to be told in advance," he said. "Is this a perfect scenario on Twitter? No. But I can only go by the majority of what we heard and I think we are making the right decision. We could get beat on some stories but I'd rather get beat on a couple of draft picks on Thursday night then anger the majority of the fan base."

When Markman refers to getting "beat" on stories, he's referring to outlets other than ESPN and the NFL Network tweeting pick-by-pick selections prior to Goodell's pick announcement. CBS Sports' Jason La Confora noted that there are no "official rules" when it comes to broadcasting the NFL Draft, especially since he doesn't work for neither ESPN nor the NFL Network.

"It's definitely cool to just report and get info out and, sure, there is a different degree of freedom in that," LaCanfora said. "But my hunch is once the draft actually gets going, there will end up being several different standards and no universal understanding of exactly what the "rules" are for those broadcasting the event."

Only time will tell if other networks beat Goodell to the punch via Twitter, but for now, it appears that ESPN and the NFL Network are trying to restore drama to the actual broadcast itself.

NFL free agent tracker: Quentin Jammer visited Redskins

The Washington Redskins hosted free-agent defensive back Quentin Jammer on Sunday, according to Grant Paulsen.

Jammer has garnered little-to-no interest since testing the free-agent market. The 6'0, 204 pound cornerback has been solid, though not spectacular, throughout his 11-year career.

The Redskins expressed interest in numerous defensive backs throughout the offseason, including Aqib Talib and Antoine Winfield, but cap penalties levied on Washington stemming from the uncapped 2011 season hindered the Redskins' ability to sign free agents this offseason.

Washington released DeAngelo Hall earlier this offseason, but re-signed the trouble cornerback on a team-friendly deal. Still, the Redskins need help in the secondary -- especially if they're going to compete with Eli Manning and the Giants' offense, as well as Chip Kelly's new offense with the Eagles.

Jammer has been remarkably healthy throughout his career, and has only missed four games in 11 seasons. The Chargers selected Jammer with the No. 5 pick of the 2002 NFL Draft, and the former Texas Longhorns corner has spent his entire career in San Diego to date. His play has tailed off as he's aged. Pro Football Focus graded him as one of the ten worst corners in the NFL last season.

If the Redskins have sincere interest in Jammer, they should be able to come to terms relatively easily. Jammer will turn 34 later this summer, and has little-to-no leverage in contract negotiations. With no other apparent suitors, the Redskins should be able to add Jammer with a deal near or around the veteran's minimum -- and could add incentives to sweeten the deal for Jammer's camp.

While agreeing to terms could occur with ease, actually signing Jammer will require some work. Washington currently has less than $30,000 of cap space, according to CSN Washington -- and the Redskins have to sign their 2013 draft picks, which will cost millions against the cap.

In addition to Hall, the Redskins also have Josh Wilson, E.J. Biggers, Chase Minnifield, Jerome Murphy and Richard Crawford under contract at the cornerback position.

Branden Albert trade rumors: Dolphins, Chiefs haven't talked 'in days'

The Kansas City Chiefs are attempting to trade franchise-tagged left tackle Branden Albert in advance of the 2013 NFL Draft -- and the Miami Dolphins, who lost Jake Long to the St. Louis Rams in free agency, appear interested in Albert. Talks between the Chiefs and Dolphins have soured, and the two teams haven't talked "in days," according to The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.

Kansas City wants a second-round pick in exchange for Albert. Miami currently owns two second-round selections -- the No. 42 and No. 52 overall picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Albert's long-term contract demands further complicate trade negotiations. Albert is reportedly seeking a long-term deal richer than the contract the Rams gave Long earlier this offseason. While Albert enjoyed a better 2012 than Long, he doesn't have the same track record as the former No. 1 overall pick.

This year's free-agent market has been somewhat depressed, and it's possible that Albert and his camp are misjudging the market -- as many free agents did earlier this offseason. Arrowhead Pride's Joel Thorman notes that the abundance of tackles in the draft and on the free-agent market hurt Albert's demand -- and consequently, his next contract.

This is a little late in the game to be playing chicken like this. If Albert drops his price tag, you have to wonder what other teams would've been interested in him weeks ago if they had known the price tag was lower. This looks like a case of Albert (or his rep) misjudging the market and not hearing what he wants to hear from other teams. In any other season I would've expect Albert to pull more than $8.5 million per year but this is a unique year in that the Chiefs have the top pick where the best player is a left tackle and there were multiple starting left tackles on the open market, a rarity. More supply lowers the demand, which hurts Albert's price.

Miami could use Albert, especially if the Dolphins are to dethrone the Patriots atop the AFC East in 2013, but at its own price on both fronts. Though the Chiefs are looking for a second-round pick, once they select either Eric Fisher or Luke Joeckel with the No. 1 overall pick, they'll lose leverage.

Kansas City traded its 2013 second-round pick earlier this offseason, in exchange for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith.

The 2013 NFL Draft will begin on Thursday. The second round of the NFL Draft will begin on Friday -- giving the Chiefs, Dolphins and Albert approximately five days to come to an agreement.
