Smartfootball.com has a very in-depth look at the core legal issue behind the lockout. It mostly revolves around this court's interpretation of the 80-year old Norris-LaGuardia Act. I'm no lawyer, but it seems the court has some interesting legal history and theory to wade around in.

Indy Cornrows On Big and Small Markets

Big markets are definitely in Chicago, New York, and L.A. I think most people are comfortable adding Philly, Dallas, Phoenix and Miami.

If we take a look at the biggest cities in the country, I think we would have to include the Bay Area (San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco), San Antonio and Houston. San Diego would be there too, but no NBA in the 619. However, city population is not the only way to look at market size. If we look at the size of urban areas, we find a new set of "biggest cities." Now we include Boston, Washington, D.C. and Detroit.

Now we have a list from which to work. This list would suggest that the NBA's "big market" teams are the Knicks, Nets, Bulls, Lakers, Clippers, 76ers, Mavericks, Heat, Warriors, SunsSpurs, Rockets, Celtics, Wizards and Pistons. If we assumes that there are only "big" and "small" markets, we are left with the following "small market" teams: Raptors, Cavaliers, Pacers, Bucks, Hawks, Bobcats, Magic, Nuggets, Timberwolves, Thunder, Trail Blazers, Jazz, Kings, Grizzlies and Hornets.

Now my question: Does this square with our perceptions? For instance, are the Pistons, Warriors, and Spurs big national draws? Are the Magic, Nuggets, Hawks and Blazers having a hard time competing because of the size of their respective markets?

Surely, some of this has to do with the composition of the teams involved. We know that there are several teams in both of these lists that very few would associate with the "pluses" of a big market or the "minuses" of a small market.

So is success the ultimate decider of big and small markets? Is population? I would be very interested in your takes.

Stampede Blue Last season we had several Stampede Blue fantasy leagues

I was wondering if we were going to reactivate those leagues? I know there was talk of setting the leagues up soccer-style, full of promotions and relegations. I kind of like this idea, but maybe it's fallen by the wayside. I also know I saw something about playing on CBS this year instead of Fanhouse like we used last season.

I know I haven't been around here too much during the off-season, so maybe I just missed it....

Indy Cornrows Pacers DVD on Amazon

If you're like me, I imagine you are all still pumped about Sunday's viewing of Winning Time. If you're also like me, you have already bought a copy of the greatest documentary ever. I found today that the Indiana Pacers Greatest Games Collection, Vol. 1 DVD is on sale from Amazon for only $7.79. I think it is our duty to make sure we all have a (cheap) copy of this 4-disc set.

From Amazon:

You asked for it, and you got it - four of the greatest NBA games in Indiana Pacers franchise history as voted online by you the fans. Go back in time with all your favorite Pacers - from Rik Smits to Reggie Miller to Mark Jackson to Dale Davis. Relive No. 31's phenomenal 25-point fourth quarter against the Knicks in '94, the amazing eight points in 8.9 seconds against the Knicks, the classic 1998 playoff battle with Chicago, and the Pacers' first ever Eastern Conference championship victory.

I live in St. Louis and I want to go to the game, but I have no desire to go w/a Rams fan or someone who doesn't care about the game. Anybody going to be in town? These seats aren't great, but they're only $25/ticket. Looking for one person who will be in town and doesn't mind sitting next to a guy in a Bob Zombie jersey.

Number 45 will be making a public appearance at the Barnes & Noble at the West County Center on Tuesday, September 22 at 7pm. Unfortunately, this conflicts with that evening's game with the Astros. Fortunately, GOBs willing, we will have already clinched by then. Hoot will be discussing his book Sixty Feet, Six Inches: A Hall of Fame Pitcher and a Hall of Fame Hitter Talk About How the Game Is Played.

Here's Rd. 1. I'm not ecstatic with the outcome, but I'd love feedback and advice for Rd. 2.

Silver And Black Pride More help

The mock draft over at Stampede Blue is under way. Curry and Raji are off the board and the Cheifs are on the clock. I am still doing as much research as I can to do a good job drafting as the Oakland.

The Crimson Quarry Mixed sport allegiances

Hey everybody!

Glad to see a couple of blogs here on SBNation dedicated to the Indiana Big Ten Schools. It's still early, but The Crimson Quarry and Hammer and Rails both look to be quality additions.

I'm posting because I am stuck in an awkward predicament. You see, I am something of a College Sports polygamist.
