PAP Petition: List Your Best Offer for Parenteau
Please sign this petition if you feel the Islanders should sign P. A. Parentau. List your best offer. I just wanted to see if we could put all of the last minute PAP sentiment in one FAN POST. When this all works itself out it should give us a place to look back and see where we all stood on this decision. A decision that will definitely impact team history one way or the other.
JP's January Plus/Minus Poll
Editor's Note: Back by popular demand, from the depths of a brain and muse scientists will one day want to examine but will likely find elusive like some such Heisenberg Principle, here is JPinVA's monthly plus/minus for January.
The good news: January was a playoff pace month. The bad news: January was the only one of those thus far. The fun news: Home attendance average is up -- and this thing hasn't even become trendy in Brooklyn yet.
Notes and figures follow. Poll is at the bottom.

JP's December Plus/Minus, Poll
Editor's Note: This was a popular FanPost when JPinVA looked back at November, so here is his December version. It looks at the month that was (and what's ahead) in plus/minus style.
Also in the mode of looking ahead, afrosupreme returned with his monthly schedule outlook FanPost -- are there extra opportunities in January?
JP's December 2011 plus/minus:
TEAM STATS
- (RECORD) 6-6-2 14 pts. in 14 games. Their 1 point per game (PPG) was a little better than their .77 PPG in November and October, but not nearly the 1.17 PPG they will need to be a playoff team. They have also lifted the bar for the rest of the season. They will probably need 96 (or 1.17 PPG) to make the playoffs, as they now have 32 pts. in 36 games. They will need 64 points in their next 46 games or a pace around 1.40 PPG. That would be a record of 30-10-6 over that period. It’s not likely.

JP's November 2011 Plus/Minus Rundown
TEAM STATS
- (RECORD) 4-7-2 9 pts in 13 games. .69 PPG, they will probably need 96 (or 1.17PPG) to make the playoffs.
- (Goals For) 25. 1.92/gm Horrible. Lack of offensive support from the middle six forwards was a killer for this team. But more than that, the reason behind this is probably the horrible defense. Their inability to move the puck out of the defensive zone contributed greatly to their inability to score.
- (Goals Against) 46. 3.53/gm. This stat is actually swayed by two goaltenders. Rick Dipietro gave up 15 goals (16 if you include an EN) in 4 games and Anders Nilsson (in an emergency start) gave up 5 in one. The rest of the team let up 25 in 8 games which is acceptable unless you’re only scoring 2 goals per game. They need to cut down on defensive zone time and shots from inside the perimeter.
- (Goal Diff) -21 Absolutely horrendous. In October they were a respectable 18/22 (-4 in 9 games). This is the most important stat in a transitional season. I personally blame the lack of defensive depth for the reasons stated above. Coming into the season the team looked as though it would benefit from a fourth line upgrade, and the return of 3 defensemen that missed most of 2010-11. Only Streit has made a positive impact on defense, and the fourth line upgrade, Marty Reasoner is -14 (-13 in November).

System Life Cycle: In Which Stage is the New York Islanders Rebuild?
This is a pretty simple question, but the answers are relative to one’s perception. So I’m going to try to break it down. I’m going to put it in terms of a System Life Cycle.
Analysis
This is where you take inventory of where you are. I believe in terms of a rebuild this was done during the 2007-08 season. The previous year the Islanders tried to MAINTAIN a talent level that barely got them to the playoffs. Then the exodus of 2007 happened where Smyth, Blake, Poti, Kozlov and others all ran for greener pastures. This is why the Islanders had to take a hard look at themselves. Years of poor asset management, and misguided concepts (GM by committee) had left them devoid of young talent and alienated from the Unrestricted Free Agency market.

New Year's Depth Chart and Decisions
LHH editor's note: Front-paged FanPost because the site founder is a sucker for any depth-chart discussion.
I say Garth is doing a really good job, after a tough stumble this year.
Here is the depth chart (as I see it) for next year: (before anybody puts out a contract on me... they are in signed status order... signed, RFA, UFA). [Note: Chart is after the poll if you're on the home page.]
Why the Islanders Will Turn it Around Under Jack Capuano
Editor's Note from Dom: Really extensive, thought-provoking FanPost from JPinVA that provides too much fun and fodder not to feature it on the front page. We could spend days mulling and debating different aspects...and I expect we will!
Theory: The Islanders had too much non-Scott Gordon talent. They had limited ability to change the talent and Gordon was locked into his system. There was also too little time afforded the turn-around given their resources. To make this a "Scott Gordon" team was going to take at least another three years just to make the playoffs.

Islander 100 Point Race (Update 01/09/11)
No Islander draft pick has scored 100 CAREER points in an Islander uniform in over a decade. There are some players who have a chance to do it this year.
Who will be the first Islander draftee since Ziggy Palffy and Scott Lachance to score 100 points while still in an Islander uniform?
It should be very close... the race is on. Entries and commentary after the jump...
12/08/10: In this update I've added a "by coach" stats. (see table below)
12/21/10: 5 more games. Biggest jump is by Comeau who now has 92 points and is tied for second with Marty.
01/09/11 9 games. 7-2-0 in that stretch. Comeau is now on the cusp. He very well could do it today.
Some Nice Nino-age From NHL.COM
Some kind words about our favorite meteorological phenomenon....
... and a quote from coach go-go that just keeps begging the question, "Is this the right guy?".
"I think there's a good base and a good core that's in place," Gordon said. "In all areas we've improved from a development standpoint and on the ice. Another year or two and we could be a player away from really making our mark."
Show some damn courage Scott, don't play the expectation management game NOW!!!!
Drop and Give Me Three
I usually try to avoid the realm of speculation, but I am curious as to what everybody thinks might be the top storylines of 2010-11. All Islander related topic are open, but to give this Jell-o some form, let's try to keep it to:
POSITIVE, NEGATIVE and SURPRISING
Mine after the jump...
