1 Ticket for WSU
Due to some conflicts, I won't be able to park my butt in my seat for the WSU game.
(HAHA! AS IF WE SIT DURING THE GAME!) I'm looking for someone that can take care of my seat for me.
It's Section 19, row 21, seat 7.
For the willing party, I can do ticket forwarding (So you know... it's legit and stuff), but I just ask that you cover the $5 fee to do that. (GoDucks.com can facilitate that)
Ideally, I'd like someone to help cover the cost of the ticket too, but with my current schedule for this week, arranging time to have a face-to-face transaction with someone isn't practical anymore (Unless you're in the east PDX suburban area). Face value is apparently $76.
If you're interested, please send me an email so we can work things out and stuff. If you aren't interested, that's okay, but you'll make me sad. It's my birthday, so please don't make me sad.
Shufelt CPU Rankings - Week 6
ESPN College Gameday hits the Eugene campus early tomorrow morning and will feature the Sun Devils vs. the Fighting Ducks. The polls have them both in the top 25, but have they both proven to in the top 25?
Shufelt CPU Rankings - Week 5
The ever changing landscape of college football. It's part of what makes it exciting. Just when you think you know everything, Clemson runs off with 3 top-25 wins in a row. Just as you peg LSU with being the best team in the country, Alabama makes a statement win against conference east favorite, Florida. But does that mean Alabama has the best resume this year?
Shufelt CPU Rankings - Week 4
We have a new leader of the pack after a week with some big notable wins, including LSU's domination over West Virginia, but does LSU actually play in the conference with the strongest resume?
Shufelt CPU Rankings - Week 3
Another week in the books, and nothing to surprising. A noteworthy game for Boise State despite playing an outmatched Toledo team, they skyrocket up in the Shufelt computer poll with their 40-15 win over a bad team after taking a bye week.
Who else made a big splash this week? Let's take a look at the poll rankings

S-H-U-F-E-L-T-L-I-K-E-P-O-L-L-I-N-G: Week 2 (TL;DR)
I practically doubled my data over the weekend! Unfortunately, that's still not enough to bring any solid resumes to the table. Many bad teams look good, and many good teams look bad. It takes a few weeks for some tangible results - but we're another week closer to that.
There's some wacky stuff here, so let us dive in to the top 25.
Shufelt Poll: Week 1 (The Pointless Edition)
Well, it's the first week. This means some oddball results for a computer based resume poll. Because there really is no resume to show outside of MOV and the FCS bias - since that is all we have to work with and there is no other inputs to factor in, we get strange results.
First, everyone that did not play an FCS school gets away with a VoW Avg of 0.000 (See below for definitions). Why? (Great question!) Because they don't get hit with any FCS penalty and they put up X number of points and allowed Y number of points to a school that has allowed X number of points and put up Y. Mathematically, they cancel each other out.
What does that mean for this first week? Well, the best team is going to end up being the team with the highest Margin of Victory because they have a resume that is effectively and applicably zero.
2011 Oregon Football: Measuring the Expectations of the Oregon Fans
With the Ted Miller link and discussions regarding which Pac-10/12 team will regress. Oregon is the top target of the conference and after making the national championship game, the only way to really "progress" is to win the national championship, regress would be failure to make the National Championship game.. Personally, I find this to be an unrealistic expectation. Winning the conference is difficult enough, but if Oregon were to win less than 10 games, would the season be a disappointment? The only way to really figure that out isn't to let columnists tell you what is a disappointing season, but to figure what Oregon fans actually expect. Being the cold and calculated person I am, the only way I can see to answer this question is with mathematics.
Will Lyles, can I buy you a drink?
[Ed: Bumped, because this is sure to spark some interesting conversation. -jtlight]
Since last night, I have digested the latest recruiting scandal regarding 'Street Agents', primarily concerning Oregon and a Will Lyles. I also digested some roast chicken and a bottle of Tricerahops.
I had doom and gloom race across my mind, but when I stood back, and let my emotional reaction dwindle, I asked myself, "Wait, what's wrong?"

Those that are driving south to Eugene on Friday...
Keep in mind of the Woodburn Outlet malls on Black Friday. You may want to factor the increase traffic in that area.
It also sounds like in increase in Oregon State Patrol, so be sure to drive safe. If you count on making it to Eugene at an average speed of 75-80, You might want to throttle it down a bit, and add a few more minutes to your trip.

So in terms of resume scoring, the biggest movers in the top 25 are Boise State, increasing their score by .428, and Alabama, getting slammed -.451 for playing an FCS team. Other notable movers are USC, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma, all moving by a margin of .300 or greater.
In terms of pecking order, Florida State, Notre Dame and NC State jump into the top 25, South Carolina moves up 6 spots, and USC barely stays in the top 25 after being smacked by Mr. Hyde.

So this week's shakers and movers are Nevada, TCU, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Auburn and Texas A&M, all rising or falling over .400 on their VoW Average.
While the top 2 remains the same, the gap between the two became significantly smaller.
As Auburn played Chattanooga, their resume takes a hit, and they fall a significant amount. Meanwhile, Oregon continues its crawl towards the top. Though, I don't suspect them to move up in the rankings this week, unless it is complete and total domination.
Here's a big oddity: #18 Michigan State (9-1), #19 Oregon State (4-4). I suppose that's how unimpressive Michigan State's wins have been against my formula.

Boise State remains on top for a fourth consecutive week, and they'll likely stay there, thanks to Hawaii for having now a top 25 resume (partially thanks to Oregon).
So, as I was putting in the data, I got to see Oregon rise higher and higher - Stanfords huge win over UW pole-vaulted Oregon into a clear 1st place... and then. well... scroll down to the Face Palm Awards, and you'll see what happened. (Spoiler Alert: Thanks to transitive properties, we got coug'd.)
One little note note, due to formula changes regarding the shutout bonus, the delta won't match the poll from last week.

Boise State remains in the top spot after they beat their BYE week. It isn't really a bye week, as they play Tuesday night, but I'm factoring in Tuesday night towards next week's schedule as all polls, including mine, are done before they play.

With Ohio State losing, and Boise State annihilating San Jose State, The Broncos maintain its position for two consecutive weeks in a row. A SHUFELT Computer Poll first. Florida is still getting credit for their schedule, despite losing for three weeks in row. Enjoy it while you can, Florida. Appalachian State is waiting to for you.
It does bring me up to answer an email I got from someone. They asked if I could show the week-to-week changes, like every other poll. The answer? Alright, fine! No. I will not. I think people look too much at the delta and say "Oh, why did you drop so-and-so more?" or "Why didn't so-and-so jump up more?". I don't/haven't punish teams, they punish themselves with their resume. If you REALLY want to know, you can make the week-to-week comparison. However, what I will [also] do is show the numerical impact of a team's resume.
I've moved the poll explanation to the bottom of the page. On to the extra curricular awards:

SHUFELT Computer Poll; Week 6
Here are things about the poll:
- It has a memory. It will remember what happened in Week 1. Team A may look bad Week 1, but in Week 6, they don't look so bad.
- That means the values are dynamic. To take an example from this year, Boise State squeaked by a highly ranked Virginia Tech team. The next week, Virginia Tech lost to James Madison. Boise State's close call to Virginia Tech does not look NEARLY as impressive now. Week 1 scores will actually change dynamically based upon results, not just Week 1, but every week of college football.
- Style points matter. This includes the margin of victory. Nobody is impressed when you pull of a 1 point squeaker to Saint Mary’s school of the blind. But everyone would be impressed when Alabama is beaten 35-0. MOV matters, but it has diminishing returns. The point difference between winning by 50 and winning by 70 is practically infinitesimal.
- There is no pride in playing an FCS team.
- Location has a small influence on the scoring. A slight penalty for the home team, and a slight bonus for the visiting team. Neutral fields cancel each other out.
- NEW! There are bonus points for winning, and penalties for losing. This isn't a significant part of the formula, but it is factored.
- There are three main values. (There are several formulas that make up these values, but I am going to try and simplify it). A score of 0 is neither good nor bad.
- Team Avg (Team Average); This is simply your team’s performance in a game based upon a formula I’ve made up.
- Opp Avg (Opponent Average); This is an aggregated value of your opponent's Team Average.
- VoW Avg (Value of Win Average.); This is the resume score. Good team vs. Good team will = Great ; Bad team vs. bad team = Awful
- I’ll also be putting up a number next to each extra curricular awards. This is the VoW, (Value of Win). It is a score that factors in the Team's performance vs. their Opponent's resume. A team with a large win vs. a great team will result in a great VoW.
- I can make the numbers simple for you to understand. Negative is bad, positive is good. The further the number is from 0, the more extreme it is. -5 is bad, +5 is good. 0 represents neither good nor bad. This is applicable to all the scores you'll see.
- You get points for playing well against good teams, win or lose. You'll get more for beating good teams, but there is no shame for losing to a good team - as long as it is actually a good team. If you're 4-0, but it's all against FCS teams and the New Mexicos, you'll probably have a decent Team Avg, but your Opp Avg is going to make an embarrassment out of your team.
- Prior to week 1, ALL FBS teams are equal. Previous years have no influence on the poll.
- There are no bonus or penalty points for being in or absent in a BCS conference.
- A team's opponent's opponent's opponent's opponent's (potentiality infinite) score has influence on a team's perception. Meaning: Texas Tech's (Who played New Mexico, who played Oregon) score will influence Oregon's score.
- You now already know more about my computer poll than the ones that actually influence the BCS.

SHUFELT Computer Poll; Week 5
- NEW!: There is now a diminished return on MOV. The larger the MOV, the less each point is worth.
- There is no pride in playing an FCS team.
- NEW! Location has a small influence on the scoring. A slight penalty for the home team, and a slight bonus for the visiting team. Neutral fields cancel each other out.
- There are three main values. (There are several formulas that make up these values, but I am going to try and simplify it). A score of 0 is neither good nor bad.
- Team Avg (Team Average); This is simply your team’s performance in a game based upon a formula I’ve made up.

SHUFELT Computer Poll; Week 4
I'm a nerd. So, I got that out of the way.
But I've been working on a spreadsheet that is essentially a resume based computer poll. Getting into the formula is somewhat confusing, but it makes sense to me. I can make the numbers simple for you to understand. Negative is bad, positive is good. The further the number is from 0, the more extreme it is. -5 is bad, +5 is good.
I wanted to have a system that was more objective than a human poll, but still based on a resume. I probably won't make a Fanshot every week, but I will follow up the AtQ BlogPoll ballot with a comment on it - unless the masses demand a Fanshot.

I need help
I have enjoyed are conversations, and I feel somewhat disappointed that we Oregon fans don't have to interact with you Vol fans very often. It really has been a treat, and I hope Tennessee, and any travelers will feel welcome at a hostile Autzen Stadium in 2013.
Started watching a highlight clip, and saw this. I knew other teams had gloves that did this, but the team that throws out the "O" actually has the design as well. It looks pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.

Dr. Saturday: Kenny Rowe
This came across my feed, and I was surprised to see Doc Saturday shine the spotlight on Kenny Rowe.
I finally got around to uploading an animated gif of the "Double Stoops Hop" stunt. I believe it is an 8 in difficulty.

Personal Fowl: A Social Experiment
I have been stirring this idea around for a while, and as 2010 comes up, I've already got my eyes set on the 2010 football schedule.
I'm not gonna lie, the results from the SI poll about the rudest fans in the Pac-10 got a bit under my skin. However, I have heard a lot of crappy stories. If I had a dollar for every time I heard a story of someone's windshield getting bashed in because it had an OSU sticker in the window, I would be both rich, and making money in a really weird way (Mitch Hedberg for the win). Personally, I think 90% of the time I've heard these things, I think it's either hyperbole or a complete lie. But, the fans were polled and the results are that Oregon has the largest asshat per capita in the Pac-10.
Civil War Photoshop Extravaganza
Since I told Jared that if I made another photoshop, I'd create a new thread to throw them all in there.
So...
I give you...

I'm unable to make it to the WSU game (1 Free ticket!)
I'm incredibly sick today, and driving down to Eugene, hitting a ducks game, and driving back isn't exactly the doctor's prescribed rest. Especially with how the weather is shaping up to be.
I've tossed and turned around about this all last night and all morning, and it for me going down is just not gonna happen today. I'm sure everyone in section 19 will appreciate me not spreading my germs.
It's a pretty fantastic seat. Section 19, Row 21. There is only 1 seat though. Great view of Duck Vision, and a good angle on the field. You can see straight down the northern sideline. I'll even pay the forwarding fee.
Just send me an email if you're interested.
thatoneguy REALLY DOES deserve a lot of credit.
... for allowing other blogs show the quality of their content and running their respected communities. And that you can do it openly and without narcissism. It gives a great baseline to judge other blogs by.
jtlight has done a great job at keeping the AtQ engine running strong. His game analysts are some of the best in the country, and he keeps his pulse close to just about every team out there. With 120 teams to keep track of, that's impressive.
Recently promoted manager Dominic has been impeccable with keeping us surviving the off season. It's good that he often takes the devils-advocate side against Jared. It helps balance the discussions and keep perspective.
ntrebon, "Nico", is generally one of the first and few that will chime in to keep us informed of the finer details of college football. He'll keep folks in line when they become openly rude, but usually would rather folks see the finer parts of life to enjoy - like Mitch Hedberg.
PaulSF - Always an insightful editor. Of all the jersey contest bloggers, I enjoy reading his perspective the most. Grade A writing, research and commentary. He could excel in a lot of areas, but instead, he decides to give us our quack.
JConant reminds me of the guy that everyone wants to be around. Always up for a good laugh. He likes to chill around. But he shines when he lays down the quack.
And our founder, Dave, isn't freakin' great to see him back? When I originally came across AtQ - I stuck around because of his opinion pieces. He can examine, formulate, express, and persuade an opinion unlike anyone else I've read. His game-by-game break down was of the best I ever came across. I stopped reading the Oregonian garbage, because I knew Dave would deliver something better.
I feel ill and ashamed.
So I got back home last night. Overall, I enjoyed myself.
My impression of the fans is - there is a serious mixed bag. You have both some of the greatest fans, and some of the rudest fans.
The minority:
