If you go with the probable odds, the Jags should go 2-2 over the last 4 games(losing to Indy and New England and winning against the Dolphins and Browns) and this may be good enough for the last wildcard slot. The Dolphins, Jets, Steelers, and Ravens would have to win out to get 10 wins, which is possible but not probable. The first wildcard is almost a given to go to the Denver Broncos, but they did lose 4 in a row at one time. However, I'm not counting any victories before the clock reads 00:00, the Jags could go winless the rest of the way. I don't think so, in fact I don't like even writing about it because I believe in the power of positive thinking and I am positive the Jags are headed in the right direction, and in a hurry. Wouldn't it be great to make the playoffs in the first year of the new regime and the rebuilding?

update: Pittsburg can no longer win 10 games this season.

Watching the game this week from the north end zone, I had a really good perspective on most of the pass plays. At least 4 or 5 of Garrard's passes were a little off but our receivers made some really sure handed grabs. The ones I recall were Holt's one hander, MJD's catch that was thrown behind him, Sims-Walker's diving catch, and Mike Thomas' big 3rd down catch in the overtime drive. Man, it's more fun watching receivers who can catch! Also, hats off to Garrard for overcoming the interception to lead us to victory.

quickly 3 times , look what you get. Try it .....Gene S. Gene S. GENIUS! I know it's still way too early to rate or grade this years draft class but couldn't it easily go down as the best Jags draft ever? The offensive line was our biggest problem heading into this past off season and BOOM, four games into this season, it may be our strongest and deepest unit. Anyone still worried about trading next years 2nd round pick to take Cox in this years third round, or the fact that no one had Knighton going as high as a third round pick? Mike Thomas definitely has playmaker written off over him, and thats just considering his return abilities and end around speed, not even mentioning his receiving skills.

Even though our O-Line was opening some gaping holes on Sunday that even the slowest of backs could have excelled, Jennings still showed some excellent strength and downhill running. Even Zack Miller contributed with a first down run early in the game. And its not just the draft that Gene Smith seems to excel at, the free agent signings of Tra Thomas and Tory Holt look really solid.

I also read that the Rams were sick to lose DE Bryan Smith off their prcatice squad last week to the Jags. Again, I know it's still early, but Gene Smith has been awesome since taking over this year. Too bad he wasn't promoted sooner!

Nothing can stop... The Jaggernaut...

after the Titans this week our next 3 home games are against the Rams, Chiefs, and Bills, all games we should be able to win if we play like we did yesterday. We also have our bye before the game in Tennessee, giving us 2 weeks to gameplan and heal. We have 3 straight home games in December, including the Texans and Dolphins, both beatable, as things are currently. Those 2 home games are followed by Indy coming here 2 days after Christmas, wouldn't a win there make for great Holidays? We finish up with teh Pats and the Browns on the road. New England should be a great gage on how the team has improved and then finish up with the Browns, a winnable game for sure and a great revenge game. Trying to be as objective as possible, I think our schedule sets up great for the type of team we now have, young and hungry.

Morning radio was reporting that Brian Williams in all likelyhood will be released and Rob Meir will be put on IR. I guess some of those younger and less expensive guys showed enough to get rid of B Dub. In reality, he's been inconsistent at best for the past 2 years. Good move if it happens, give the younger guys experience early. The same thing they are doing with the offensive line. I like what they are doing and I hope it translates to wins on the field.

I guess it shouldn't make me feel better that there are several other NFL teams that are in danger of multiple home game blackouts, but it does. And the way the NFL is so rigid in not addressing the recession with some kind of discounts, makes me want to say the heck with you and boycott all games. Of course, I neither the conviction or willpower to carry that out.

Heading into tonights game against the Eagles, the Jaguars find themselves in a familiar position. All eyes are on the Eagles because of the return of Michael Vick, leaving the Jags as an afterthought, like an extra on a movie set. I bet you a lot of water cooler talk today included, "By the way, who are the Eagles playing tonight?". As has been the norm with the National media, the Jags will be overlooked. I, myself, think it's great and works to our advantage. This game is a microcosm of the 15 year Jaguar existence, flying under the radar once again. I think by flying low and unknown over the years has enabled the Jags to pull off some of the most memorable regular and post season upsets. Just ask John Elway what his toughest loss ever was. Last year was great when everyone and his brother were picking Jacksonville to be solid contenders for the Lombardi Trophy, however, I prefer the underdog role where the team is fighting for respect. It's like when the Jags have very few if any Pro- Bowlers named, it seems to create a healthy chip on their shoulders and extra motivation. Maybe like Mike Peterson. It's a strange year for me, knowing it's a rebuilding year and agreeing with most of the GM's decisions lately, and on the other hand, having high expectations for the quick improvement of the team as the season progresses.

Richard Collier's Tragedy Devastating

You always hear that injuries are a part of the game and is frowned upon when used as an excuse or reason for a team's failures. I agree that to dwell on injuries is a waste of time and energy but to dismiss how much of an effect they can have on a team is shortsighted. The offensive line, which I consider the foundation of any teams success, needs to play together and mesh as unit during camp, the season, and into the playoffs. It's one thing to lose 2 starters on opening day, two players who had worked all camp and pre-season to produce a well oiled machine as in the previous year of 2007. But even more impacting is to lose a teammate, a brother in arms if you will, to a horrible and tragic incident that Richard Collier was subject to last year. Football players are supposed to be these bigger than life gladiators, who are expected to be ready to go into battle each week with no excuses. I believe the Collier catastrophe affected the Jags team profoundly. To see one of your teammates and friends get shot over 14 times and become paralyzed and an amputee, had to have a great psychological effect on the Jags players, especially the players who were really close to Collier. I know it would on me. I think players started questioning themselves and once the losses started adding up, their confidence went south. The Jags have some great players with tons of potential and when playing with confidence, are a force to be reckoned with each and every week. I see a resurgence of this confident play this year and cautiously expect great things. One more thing, the way he has handled everything, makes Richard Collier my hero.

(Editors note: I loved the tone of this fanpost - Terry)

The more I look at this year's draft the more I wish we would have pulled the trigger and promoted Gene Smith couple of years ago. I liked Shack but the selection method he employed wasn't very good in selecting top NFL talent. Enter Gene Smith. Only time will tell but this draft could be the best in Jags history. I know that may be a bit optimistic but if the top half of the draft pans out like it should with Monroe and Britton, the bottom half may be just as strong (maybe better?). The three receivers we got late look very promising, but I think Rashad Jennings may be the steal of the 2009 draft. The fact that he was playing ahead of Lesean McCoy as freshmen at Pitt is a good sign. I also consider the fact that he transferred to Liberty not because of academics or disciplinary actions but to be close to his Dad and family is also a positive in regards to character and heart. Check out this youtube video of Jennings...Rashad Jennings Video pretty cool. He looks explosive and seems to be a north-south runner who also has the speed to turn the corner. He also catches the ball well. I know he played against smaller schools while at liberty but in this years Senior Bowl he led all rushers . I see a strong possibility that he will be getting substantial carries this year as a Jaguar.

Good job, Gene Smith. Thank you for bringing excitment back to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Does this piss anyone else off as much as me? I wouldn't even know where to begin because this upsets me on so many levels. I will wait for some feedback from you, the other BCC contributors, before I get too upset.
