I worked as a correspondent/sportswriter for The Hour at the age of 18 and at the ripe age of 19, I've since matured and decided to take another route. However, I will still write about my Jets, Yanks, Knicks, Rangers. And I'm on Twitter (@JaimeSantosCT) so follow me if you like sporting news, humor, and general awesomeness.

The Biggest Mistake of the NFL Draft
If you’ve already read my title, you’re probably thinking of what is the biggest mistake made at every draft. Picking a run-and-gun quarterback? Not quite, Ben Roethlisberger is a perfect example of that. Well, on the field at least. Trading away your top picks? Not if you look at what the Patriots do year after year. Bill Belechick has proven that if you draft about twenty players every year, a few of them are bound to be decent. Oh, I know now. It’s being the Raiders! While Al Davis seems to be a negative nowadays when it comes to picking the future, but the man does have three Super Bowl rings.
The Second Biggest Offseason Blunder

Well we all know that the CBA is number one on that list, but this somewhat shocking rule change is easily right behind that.
Earlier today, the NFL owners got together and voted to move the kickoff point from the 30-yard line to the 35-yard line, making it almost a lock for any decent kicker to pick up a touchback. At least the owners are finally thinking about the fans... you know, the ones that hate facing Devin Hester in Madden.
I asked Arizona Cardinals' kicker Jay Feely (whom I'm sure many Jets fans wish was still in New York) about this, to which he replied, "[It's] great for me, but will take some excitement out the game."
I 100% agree with Feely and that players like Hester, Joshua Cribbs, and even Brad Smith will now have much less impact on the game. Teams who have been susceptible to big returners, like the Steelers, will certainly benefit. It seems like an ill-advised move, to put it lightly, to me, especially since the Jets were one of the teams who voted for the change and have thrived because of their return team. But on the same note, there won't be anymore Tedd Ginn moments against the Jets... Right?
What do you all think of this new rule change?
Is This the Real Reason the Jets Lost Last Sunday?
Many people say that the Jets lost the AFC Championship game because of a Steelers' goal-line stand keeping the Jets at the one yard line. Most of these people, including myself, immediately blamed Jets' offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer. Well after some review, maybe we should go a little easier on Schotty...
Ladies and Gentlemen, Your New New York Jets Anthem
With the Steelers blasting "Black & Yellow", a song by Wiz Khalifa in honor of Pittsburgh, all week and calling it their anthem, finally a song honoring the Jets has been released. Consequence has recently released his own song, "J.E.T.S. (Put Your Arms Out)". After several people have tried to come up with a theme song for the Jets, we may now finally have our own, original, official anthem. I'll post a couple of links to what could very well be the new song that is blasted throughout the Jets' locker room.
Wheeling and Dealing: Latest Moves by the Jets (Updated 9/15)
This is my first post in awhile because I've been busy settling in and getting used to my college schedule, but I'm back to take a look at some of the moves that have been made by the Jets since yesterday.
And it hasn't even been a full day yet since the 53-man rosters had to be finalized and already some moves have been made by the Jets. A couple of new players have already been claimed as Tannebaum lived up to his word. Some of these moves include cutting David Clowney in favor of former Dolphin WR Patrick Turner, and waiving recent fan-favorite Chauncey Washington. I'm going to take a look into some of these moves which could have a fairly sizeable impact on the season.

Boom and Bust: Chiefs
It's already almost August, meaning training camp is finally here. The Chiefs have been fairly busy this offseason, acquiring both players and coaches, with Thomas Jones and Charlie Weis being the latest examples. With the Broncos once again, trading away a key offensive player, and the Chargers not signing key offensive players, the Chiefs have a decent chance at the division this year. This year is an exciting year for just about every team, and this year, I can actually say that without crossing my fingers. I've been going around to every team in the order of the draft and have been trying to predict who will have a big year and who will have a poor one, and as you can already tell, it's the Chiefs' turn.
*Just want to say, "Bust" just means down year, not complete failure*
Knicks Out of Running for Fernandez
The Trail Blazers are looking for a 1st round pick for SG Rudy Fernandez; not only would the Knicks not do it, they can't untill 2014... Good luck getting a 1st rounder for an average player, Portland.
What's Next for Kellen Clemens?
As you should already know, the Jets have finally signed veteran QB Mark Brunell, and to a two-year contract. The Jets already have four quarterbacks under contract, now five if you include Brunell. Kellen Clemens, Erik Ainge, and Kevin O'Connell are all on the brink of being cut, traded, or waived. However, Ainge andO'Connell are much more expendable than Clemens for many reasons, skill kind of being the most important reason. Many are speculating that Kellen won't be a Jet much longer; if so, what's next for the ex-future of the Jets?
Boom and Bust: 'Skins
It's hard to believe, but it's already that time of the year again. All the players are looking to make the 53-man roster, the coaches are looking at new talent, and fans are still wondering why and how this happened. Oh well, it's the Eagles' loss... This year can Redskin fans can all be really excited for the first time in years as they finally have a team that can make a run at the division, or at least a wildcard spot. I've been looking at some key players on all 32 teams and have been trying to predict which players will have a big or bigger impact than last year, and then which players could have a down or disappointing season. After doing this for 3 teams, it's now the Redskins' turn:
Boom and Bust: Bucs
It's that time of the year again. The players are training harder than ever, the coaches are watching the players train harder than ever, and the fans are... well, avoiding buying these wonderfully colored jerseys, all just for this upcoming season. After writing about the Rams and Lions in my own series called "Boom and Bust", it's the Buccaneers' turn. I will be doing this for every team, hopefully before the season begins. Here's a look at some of the Bucs' players this upcoming year:
Boom and Bust: Lions
It's once again that time of the year again. The players are out there running endless plays, the coaches are readying their plays for the players, and the fans are taking out and throwing away these. Yes, the Lions are looking for their first non-losing season since 2000; and right now, that looks like a legitimate possibility. After having a top two pick in two years in a row of having top two picks in the draft, the Lions have rebuilt pretty well. This season could be a breakout year for a couple of young players, but unfortunately I'll only be mentioning one of them this year. The Lions and their devoted fans can be excited for this season as a possible turning point in their franchise (hopefully as excited as reading the rest of this post). Here our this year's boom and bust for the Detroit Lions:
Boom and Bust: Rams
It's that time of the year again. The players are getting into peak physical condition, the coaches are studying plays non-stop, and the fans are ordering their new Sam Bradford jerseys, all in anticipation of the upcoming season. This also a great time for analysts, bloggers, and all kinds of sport writers, as we all get to make predictions for the year. In this series of "Boom and Bust", I will be looking at all 32 teams, analyzing their rosters and players, and decide who is going to have a great/better year and who will have a down year. Let's just hope I can do this better than Mike Florio... Well, here are our first contestants for this year's "Boom and Bust":
Analyzing the Jets and Ravens: Who is Better?
The pre-season doesn't begin until August, but with the draft over and with most free agents signed, many have begun to rank the teams for this season. And many analysts, even Madden, have put the Baltimore Ravens just ahead of the New York Jets, despite the Jets making it to the AFC Championship game, having the highest ranked defense, and having an explosive offseason. However, the Ravens are a very good team, with a top ten ranked offense (Jets ranked 17th), a solid defense, and with great acquisitions of their own. Both teams play very similar styles, and of course former Ravens Defensive Coordinator, Rex Ryan, is the head coach for the Jets, so that is a big reason to why. This should be very interesting to disect both teams, position by position, to decide who is the better one. Hopefully this will help you decide before the two face off in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.

Ron Artest - "Champions"

Remember these days? Well, rapping Ron is back, and hey, he's not that bad. He just released a new single commemorating the Lakers' 16th Championship versus the Celtics (via www.onsmash.com). I'm a Knicks fan and I actually enjoyed it. If you want to check it out, I'll post the link to listen and download after the jump. He's no Jay-Z or Eminem, but you should still check it out. Enjoy it Lakers fans, it's almost as good as his Game 7 performance.

Javier Vazquez
He's done great his past few starts. This is just the beginning; he won't contend for the Cy Young, but like I said earlier, there is nothing to worry about with Javy.
Mike Florio Takes a Cheap Shot on Sanchez
USC is in trouble right now and Florio takes the oppurtunity to take a low blow on the Sanchise. See for yourself by clicking the title above, if you want more of a reason to dislike him...
Forecast for Revis Island: From Cloudy to Sunshine

The Core Four
Much has been speculated about whether or not the Jets will be able to afford to keep their own players in the future. They've drawn comparisons to the Redskins of the 90's (which is highly debatable to say the least...); saying they put newly acquired players before their own team. And yes, they have made several big moves this off-season that could potentially tick off players looking to renew contracts, that is, if the players acquired weren't all just signed for one year. Players like Darrelle Revis, Nick Mangold, David Harris, and D'Brickashaw Ferguson are all nearing the end of their rookie contracts and are looking for deals. Many are wondering how the Jets will manage this, but here's why Revis and the others won't be going anywhere.

Mock Draft: Rounds 1-2
Just a few weeks ago, everyone thought the Jets would draft a cornerbackor wide receiver in round one. Since then, they have added promising corner Antonio Cromartie and Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes. Many other moves have been made around the league including the Redskins getting Donovan McNabb, the Miami Dolphins acquiring Brandon Marshall, the Ravens trade for Anquan Boldin, and many other transactions. So many changes have occurred since my last mock draft, and now I've taken a look back and have re-done it. Here's my second stab at this year's draft, but this time, I've added round two, and have omitted some detail. Here it is, enjoy:

Should the Yankees be Worried About Vázquez?
Pitcher Javier Vázquez had a rough outting yesterday against the Tampa Bay Rays. In 5.2 innings, he allowed eight runs (all earned) while walking three batters and surrendering two home runs. He picked up the "L" yesterday in the Yankees loss to the Rays. This wouldn't necessarily be the biggest of worries for the Yankees and their fans if they hadn't seen Vázquez underperform before in pinstripes. Now, should the Bombers be concerned about their number four starter?
Jets' Mock Draft (All Rounds)
After doing a mock draft for the entire NFL first round, I've decided to do a mock draft for all six of the Jets' picks. The Jets currently don't have any major needs this upcoming season, but where they could use help is a third wide receiver, another pass-rusher alongside Shaun Ellis, a third running back, another safety to compete with Brodney Pool to play safety with Jim Leonhard, maybe a kicker, and possibly some offensive linemen for the future. Here are my predictions for the Jets' picks this draft:

Mock Draft 2010: Round 1 (Agree or Disagree?)
After doing some research, I think I have figured out what will happen this year in Round 1 of the NFL draft. Of course, I'll probably still be wrong with a fair amount of my picks, but who isn't these days? (I'm looking at you, McShay...) I am trying to predict this without trades because who knows how that would work out as it would be way too intricate and confusing for my taste. Well here are my predictions for picks 1-32:
Report: LT is a Jet
According to several reliable sources, LaDainian Tomlinson is a New York Jet.
The Jets' Search for Another Corner
After being embarrassed by Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon, it's been made clear the Jets need another corner opposite Darrelle Revis. Unfortunately, even with Revis as good as he is, he cannot shutdown every opposing receiver. There have been many rumors from ESPN, SNY, and many more sources about the Jets going after a number two cornerback; here are some of them:
Should Gang Green Go After Garcia?
The Jets have been rumored to be looking for a veteran pressence to backup Mark Sanchez.
QB Jeff Garcia was recently cut by the Raiders. The Jets might be looking into signing him as a backup, making Kellen Clemens a viable trade option. Garcia would most likely not see any playing time if the Jets were to sign him, but veteran know-how would be important to Sanchez's growth, especially since it's his rookie season. Garcia knows winning and that could be a key factor in helping Sanchez and the rest of the offense.
Clemens could be used as trade bait for a team that could use a QB, but has some WRs to trade or just even trade Clemens for draft picks. Signing Garcia could be a possibility, so look out for Jets' transactions over the next week or so.

Jets Cut 3 More
Not exactly exciting or big news, but the Jets have cut WR Marcus Henry, TE Kevin Brock, and TE Jack Simmons. The three players have played mainly under 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th string squads during this pre-season.
23-year-old Henry was 6' 4" and initially had some promise, but had some issues with getting open and catching the football. Brock and Simmons can be best known for droping a fair amount of pre-season passes this year.
The 53-man roster deadline is Saturday at 6 p.m.

Kerry Rhodes: Top 3 Safety?
Just how good is Kerry Rhodes?
Personally I believe he is at least a top 5 safety. I was arguing with one of my friends about who the best safeties are. He was saying that Cards safety Adrian Wilson is "way better"; my opinion, not a chance. I know Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu are better but also have more experience. I see Kerry Rhodes play every week and know just how good he can be. Now that Kerry isn't being held back by Mangini I think he will have his best season yet along with the rest of the Jets D.
