I am interested in basketball from an analysis perspective. Primarily understanding the mechanics of what makes players successful.

Should we save cap for 2010 or 2011?

I haven't heard many people talk about this, so I am bring it up.  Could the summer of 2011 be more important for the Bulls than 2010?  2010 marks the potential free agency of a number of...

ESPN with new trade machine

Only problem is that they forget to actually test it. Oops. It doesn't output a link to share trades. Well that should reduce the number of fanposts BaB gets.

Flexibility and Amare

This is something I wanted to throw out there.  I'll keep it short.  If we landed Amare (or Bosh or any other superstar this year or next), we would not need to be under the salary cap in 2010....

K.C. Johnson Mailbag

6

Lots of trade ideas going on. K.C. just fanning the flames for people who don't like him: Vinny "looked at me like I was from Mars. But he does that a lot because I ask a lot of silly questions."

Darius Miles--2 games away from affecting portland cap space, not 8

30

Basically, some team can sign miles to a 10 day contract play him in two games and Portland adds 9 million to its salary cap and gets pushed into the luxury tax.

DraftExpress reviews their scouting of Rose

It's a good assessment (as opposed to what's on ESPN or SI) about how Rose is doing and what he needs to work on. Overall: Rose is amazing

Hughes hopeful to play this week

39
[It's a tough balance: do I assume VDN will start Hughes so it tempers my anger when it actually happens? Or would doing that only prematurely and unecessarily unleash that anger? -ed.] Larry Hughes participated in the majority of the Bulls' Monday practice and, close to three weeks after dislocating his right shoulder on Oct. 22, is hopeful he can play either Thursday against Dallas or Saturday against Indiana.

ShamSports does Bulls Preview

+

There's more, but I loved this quote: If this was another team, we'd probably be watching them intently, fawning openly, dicks in hand, doused in our own pre-ejaculate at the exciting and potential-laden duo of Rose and Thomas, despite them sounding more like the compelling protagonists in a Baroque-era love story. But that's not going to happen here. This is the Bulls. It's been nothing but false dawns for ten years. No one's leading them anything. This time, they're going to have to win our trust, by winning something.

The journey of Elton Brown

It's a good read. About how he sucked in college and over the last 3 years has been pretty amazing, D-league all star, MVP of the all-star game, and just won a championship with Israel's Hapoel Holon.

Jay Mariotti the Rat

Roger Ebert calls Jay Mariotti out for the way he handled himself during his resignation. It's not that basketball related, but for those of you who don't like Mariotti maybe you'll enjoy it.

Estimating team chemistry (general NBA)

This is a really good read, but you definitely need to read his article on SPI style trichotomy (link is in the 1st paragraph) before you tackle this. Like all statistics, it's got a ton of assumptions and the value of the metric is arguable, but it's still a fun read, a cool idea, and the dude can make some really pretty pictures :)
