"The quarterback will have a calculator in his helmet. It will be on his Lexan visor, so he'll be able to see readouts based on percentages and statistics to determine the ideal play to run." —Byron Donzis 1979

This "prediction" on page 3 of the article brought a smile to my face and my first thought was Peyton Manning.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy and I'm actually sad he made it.

Stampede Blue Perspective

"Tragedy and comedy are but two aspects of what is real, and whether we see the tragic or the humorous is a matter of perspective." -Arnold Beisser

I know that I am late to the "end of the decade reflections" party but I just came across an article which I found to be an extremely interesting write up.

This is an excellent article that I found at Mile High Report looking at SB's and coaches. We all parrot the same line that winning a SB is hard and it is extremely difficult to sustain success. The data from the article puts this into a historical context and gives us a new perspective on the difficulties of being successful in the NFL.

When looking at back at the various records of the Colts and overall accomplishments, it is important to be able to not only put it in the context of a cap era but a historical one as well.  Depending upon our perspective those accomplishments are less or more impressive.

We can either look at our post-season record separate from the perspective of our astounding regular season win streak and the difficulty of winning in the NFL or we can view it from the historical perspective the article gives us.

The author of the article also mentions in one of his comments the various steps that are taken en route to a SB.

The goal of every team is to win the Super Bowl,
To win the SB, you have to be able to win the conference,
To win the conference you have to be able to win the divisional round,
To win the divisional round, you have to be able to either win the division, or the wildcard spot
To win the wildcard, you have to win more than you lose
To win more than you lose, you have to have your players play as a single unit
To have your players play as a single unit, you have to get the right players in place

Multiple steps which must be accomplished and then repeated for sustained success. Many opportunities for the you know what to hit the you know what

I just think that most fans from teams who have never won anything or have never sustained success undervalue regular season wins...which is ironic.

I must admit that I'm not what the point of this post is beyond wanting to both share the article and to give some random thoughts concerning the accomplishments of the Colts.

I just get tired of the same old quips and digs about the Colts post season record and by extension Peyton Manning.

Canal Street Chronicles Congrats

Hey, I'm a Colts fan and I wanted to come over here and congratulate all of you on your team winning.

I'm finding it strange that while I am upset this loss isn't as devastating emotionally as last year's loss to the Chargers and a couple of other games.

It think its because I don't hate the Saints and I admire and respect Drew Bree's.

At the same time its the freaking SB so it hurts.

I guess it comes down to the fact that the Saints outplayed the Colts in the key situations in the game. Its really simple, not last second flag, fluke play etc. Manning made a bad read/throw and that's all it took. The Saints made the plays and in the end more than deserve this win.

I am at peace with that.

I think the worse part of this will be the trolling back at stampedeblue.

A neat article about Manning's prep.

I found the bit about the Jet's defenders discussing Manning calling out the blitz's fun.

Living in South Texas it is always a hassle to see Colts games during the regular season and virtually impossible to see pre-season games. NFL network is re-airing all of the preseason games and the following is the schedule for the re-airing of the Colts pre-season games. Obviously you'll know the results and probably have watched the highlights but its freaking Colts football !

Saturday, August 15
1:00 AM ET- Minnesota Vikings at Indianapolis Colts (HD)

Friday, August 21
1:00 PM ET - Philadelphia Eagles at Indianapolis Colts (HD)

Saturday, August 29
1:00 PM ET- Indianapolis Colts vs. Detroit Lions (HD)

Saturday, September 5
11:30 PM ET - Indianapolis Colts at Cincinnati Bengals (HD)
