Nintendo posts $927 million loss
You may have read or heard about Geoff Baker's article on 30% minority owner Chris Larson having money problems as a result of the economy and his divorce. This week, majority owner Nintendo (of America) reported a loss of $927 million during the first half of its fiscal year and is forecasting its first annual loss in 30 years. About 80% of Nintendo's revenue comes from America and Europe.
While these developments might not directly impact the Mariners payroll, attendance fell again this year and the team is expected to have lost money on this past season. All together it could mean nothing in the short term, but it is certainly not good news.

Angels one-up Rangers with rumored $4 billion TV deal
"I keep hearing Artie Moreno is on the cusp of a $4 billion TV deal in Anaheim. So if that’s the case he’s going to have some coin to throw around."
Jack Zduriencik on the protection theory
Mike Salk:
This idea of a protection theory, I don't know whether it exists or not, but that when you have a couple of big bats in your lineup it allows everybody else to reach their potential or maybe even go beyond it. When you look back at the lack of maybe a big time power threat or run producer in the middle, do you think that had an effect on some of the other guys and the slow starts they had?
Jack Zduriencik:
Yes, I do. I really do. We made efforts to get a bat in the Winter time. I made an offer to Russell right out of the shoot last year and he turned it down. That was one that we wanted to keep and we ended up trading for him later on after he went elsewhere. Yeah I do think it's a factor, three-run homers do an awful lot for you and we designed this club, this year, because of the ball park and where we were at with some other issues and we were counting on some players to come in and have a bounce back year--didn't happen. I do think whenever you get somebody, in football or basketball you might call it a playmaker. If you have a playmaker in baseball in the middle of your lineup, in our case it would have been a big bat, yeah I think it would have helped, it would have eased the pain. Momentum was a big thing. We started out bad and there were a lot of series early in the year, several of them that I was just like, "Wow, we gave that game away. We gave this game away. We didn't do the things we could of win to this game." Then all of a sudden it begins to snowball and it was hard. It was hard for these guys to come back and then injuries started and then it really made it difficult.

@hyphen18's tweets now a little less charming
RRS is part of the Mariner's new sponsorship with Ford. They will give him cars to drive and he is going to tweet about them.
Kanekoa Texeira wins the Ninth Annual Peoria Diamond Club Spring Training Rookie of the Year Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of the Peoria Sports Complex.
Managers like to waste their time deciding whether Casey Kotchman should bat third or fifth; most of them have neither the time nor the intellect to make so many decisions.
The Adrian Gonzalez deal that wasn't
"Before last year's July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline, the team closest to acquiring Gonzalez was Seattle, which had a six-for-one deal on the table. But, the source said, then-general manager Kevin Towers was holding out for one more player and the deal fell apart."
What is Chris Snelling up to these days?
The popular former Mariner is out of baseball and, according those who've stayed in contact, pursuing another passion at his home here in Peoria. Snelling has gotten into wine making, to the point that he has started his own vineyard. Well, it's only a small patch in his backyard, but word is that Snelling is highly protective of his new vines.
Ken Griffey Jr. lost 7 pounds--again.
Geoff Baker out with the story today that Ken Griffey Jr. lost 7 pounds over the break.
Just got done chatting with Ken Griffey Jr. in the clubhouse and he told me he dropped seven pounds, mainly because he changed his eating habits slightly and also was able to do more work than last year once his knee surgery got done on Oct. 11.
On January 28th, the AP had the same story.
Griffin spent a few days with Griffey at his home in Florida this winter. The trainer said Thursday the slugger who turned 40 on Nov. 21 has lost about 7 pounds.
Then on December 15th, Larry Stone also reported on his weight loss. Can you guess how much it was back then as well?
Most importantly, Griffin said that Griffey feels great, is working out hard, and has lost six to eight pounds en route to his winter goal of losing 15.
To be fair, he is 40 with failing knees and people can plateau when working out.
