Big Ben: Brown gets open because of Wallace

1

Ben Roethlisberger believes the notion that the Steelers wouldn't miss holdout receiver Mike Wallace is "crazy," and insists Antonio Brown's 2011 stretch-run production was a byproduct of Wallace's presence. "They’re crazy. No offense, but they’re crazy," Big Ben said of people who think Wallace wouldn't be missed. "... The reason Antonio is going to get open -- not the only reason -- but one of the reasons Antonio is going to get open is because Mike is stretching the field. Any time that Mike is on the field, he commands two guys' eyes, whether it’s the cornerback and the safety, but somebody’s always going to be keeping an eye on him. ... Mike gets frustrated sometimes when he’s not getting 100 yards a game, but I tell him that’s the ultimate compliment — you’re being double and triple teamed because they’re scared of you."

"Though he didn't do a somersault, Jerome Simpson was up to his old tricks Wednesday. The new Viking WR made the play of the day when he made this leaping catch on a Christian Ponder deep ball. Courtesy of vikings.com."

OUT ROUTT: According to ProFootballTalk.com cornerback Stanford Routt, on the market after he was let go by the Raiders, toured Buffalo, Kansas City and Cincinnati before he chose the Chiefs on Monday for what has been reported as a three-year, $20 million deal. It seems like the Bengals were practicing more due diligence than anything else. Routt, a good bump-and-run player, doesn't really fit their scheme since he isn't known as a physical player when it comes to supporting the run, a prerequisite for defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. Notes: New back right at home; Whit in stat elite
